Since he was metal and not Bones, Rotpatch went here. @MattParody was nice enough to include this Radukar the Wolf in our last trade box. Who doesn't love giant Cossack Vikings? a Death Tyrant from Nolzur's Some Spiders from Wargames Atlantic, also the most likely to hit a table soon for RoSD

Taking a break from painting monsters, I'm now tackling the mountain of PC/NPCs I've been putting off for the last year. Up first: Two firbolg druids.

Beholders are one of those miniatures I've steered clear of because I don't think I have the skills to do it justice so I decided to tackle the zombie version instead.

I had a spare iron golem miniature sitting around and I just got some new metallic paints from Army Painter so decided to test them out. I started with a base of Night shade which is a very nice dark blue and then did a heavy drybrush of gun metal. After that I highlighted with Glitter Green, Tainted Gold and Evil Chrome (their name, not mine) and because most images of iron golems depict them as reddish in color I went over most of it with Gemstone. Even though I didn't use any washes on the golem itself I'm pretty happy with the results.

I'd really hate to run into this thing in the woods, swamp or anywhere else for that matter.

I was originally going to paint its claws black as depicted in most artwork but then I remembered I have a paint called Troll Claw so I used that instead.

This was kind of fun and easy to paint until it came to the base which was factory attached. Painting between every leg was a tedious nightmare.

From WizKids' line of Nolzur's Marvellous Miniatures comes the "Treant", which is D&D-speak for Ent, or Treeman if you are more familar with Warhammer. I find this mini looks angry and scary, not like a benevolent living tree shepherd at all. A malevolent one, on the other hand, fits the bill precicely. And seeing as I have been painting undead halflings and there is a strong historic connection between Halflings and Treemen as allies; so undead treeman. Hence, Torchwood the Furious here. Go on, you know you want to go on:

Hey there! It's been awhile. I've painted a few things recently, but it's been sporadic. I have plenty of minis to paint, but have been fighting sometimes to find the mood to or to find time. Anyway! Personal crap aside, here is my rendition of the frost giant from the Nolzur's Marvelous Unpainted Miniatures line, which seems to be the same sculpt as the Harshnag from the Icons of the Realms series of pre painted minis. Enough of my blabbering, on with the pics! Unfortunately I didn't push the contrast a ton here. It's clear to see in hand, but it doesn't really show up in the photos all that well. Still good practice though. And he'll terrify my players all the same.

So yeah, been a long time. I had actually quit painting for some time. 5 or 6 years at least. I had a few false starts getting back in to to the hobby in that time. But yeah, pretty much the last several years, my brushes were dry, and my paints were unopened. Flash-forward to this past August, and I kinda got the itch again. The minis in the Nolzur's Marvelous Minis line for D&D really caught my notice and got me pretty excited. So, I bought a few, got my brushes wet again and, well, the picspam speaks for itself, I think. I have some success, some not quite as successful, but, lots of finished output since August. Also pictured: a WIP of a Blightfang mini I received as a gift a few days ago. It's nice to be painting again.

So, not a Reaper mini, but I got my hands on one of these. I wanted to try painting one up differently than I typically see, where they're largely blue, red, or brown, since the Monster Manual mentions no two beholders are alike. That said, sometime I'd like to get another one to paint up more "traditionally," despite likely never needing to have two beholders on the board at once.
