A project mostly done just to get painting, so it's far from perfect and I didn't take time to blend it out at all. Focus was on playing with some OSL and then I decided to try sculpting a base, so this is a huge step forward despite the lack of blending on it. Unfortunately, I used some liners to give character to the stone and haven't sealed the mini, so it's pretty shiny along the walls and you can't see any of the subtlety there. I'll hit it with dullcote and see if I can get better pics and update this post later, if so. And though my intention was to not blend, I /may/ go back and do just a minor blend pass on the blue OSL highlight on the wall because that's bugging me :) Hope you enjoy! WIP here

First diorama I've done since I've been I was ill this winter. Although I have been doing a lot of reminiscing and wishing, which is what this piece is about. I have at least one of all the Burrows & Badgers range from Oathsworn and one of the parts I like is thst ao many or their miniatures can be used for non-dnd or domestic scenes. I also finally found a use for the stable piece from the Reaper nativity scene. I built an actual stable for that sp I had thst bit left over and it worked pretty well here. I could explain it but I'm hoping the piece speaks for itself. Hope you.all enjoy I find tje affect the best when staring through the portal...

Just thought i would put these up to show off the new party making their way through saltmarsh. A party of six graduates from the civilized lands, roped into fulfilling a debt by their mentors. At least they are working together... they arent my finest work but for 6 hours of painting, they will do nicely for our little gaming group and the group enjoyed the surprise of coming to their second session to discover they all had custom painted minis! we have a Halfling fighter an elven thief with a fixation for daggers a halfling bard the blue dragonborn priest of Protos the black Dragonborn warlock (had to create the head. I couldnt find a dragonborn mini with an 8 strength...) and a Human ranger from the backstreets and slums hope you enjoy them, i dont know how long they will last....

As mentioned in the Rabbits topic, when I first saw 03929: Drangus, Duckman Warrior, I knew I'd found the opposition for my Rabbits. The problem is, duckmen don't seem nearly as common as Rabbits. This is my current "army". That's two copies of Drangus and Oathsworn's duck-billed platypus (it's got a bill so close enough!!). So far my quick search has only tracked down one set of Duckmen, by Rebel Minis (bookmarked!!). I'm hoping Reaper will expand their Duckman line in the comming months as well (please?). I'll be doing a weapon swap on one of the two Drangus's (Drangi?) to make them a little different. So if you know of any more Duckmen figs, or just duck figs, or really any associated waterfowl or waterfowlmen, feel free to let me know.

With Gencon just a few weeks away, I need to finalize the three warbands I’m responsible for in our Burrows and Badgers game...so one more speed painted figure this morning. 50 minutes or so on this one.

One more mouse for the order of battle pool for Gencon. I’m behind on basing, but should get to him over the weekend.

Back in 2013 I came across a kickstarter campaign called "Heroes of the Dwarfs" by a small start up company called Oathsworn. The creator sculpted the models himself, and the greens on display were very oldhammery and full of character. I went in for a massive three minis, being a bit cautious at the time, what with this being a new company and all. They delivered in a timely fashion, the minis were great quality, and I have backed 13 out of 14 of Oathsworns campaigns since then. They continue to crank out the good stuff. They are on my short list of trusted creators, A+ will back again. Ingrid Deathseeker is basically your female beardless Trollslayer. I haven’t picked up a brush in a couple of weeks, so I was happy to get over the painting block with an Oathsworn speed paint yesterday. (I wasn’t timing closely, but about an hour.) I need four or five more figures before Gencon, where my brother and I will be staging a couple of B&B games. The pictures are a little extra contrasty; I’ll add a follow-up once based.

So, a very long time ago, somewhere around the turn of the millennia, when I started buying minis (not counting that dragon I bought in the early 90s...which I should get around to painting one of these days....) I came across a miniature that would change the course of history! Well, my history anyway, because if I hadn't seen it I likely wouldn't be posting about all these other minis I bought because if it, not to mention all the butterfly bunny effects that that one change would have made to the timeline....but I digress. One that faithful day I spotted the legendary (and apparently back in print!!) Doom Bunny from Ral Partha. I, of course, had to have it. It then sat (as is usual) unpainted for years. Then one day, while GMing a campaign, I decided to run an entire rabbit themed night as we were playing on Easter Monday. The campaign either had (I think, unless this was the first animal night....I think the Bovine Liberation Army came first....) , or ended up having an animal theme for a bit so all was good. I painted up the Doom Bunny and my wife painted up 4 Reaper bunnies from some familiar set or another (must have been one with weasels in it, I needed a bunch of those for a Hackmaster thing). I had a very fun time running the bunnies (unlike the BLA final encounter...anyone remember how long it took to create a high level minotaur blackguard in 3.x? It got critted 3 times in the first round and went down in the second. It got to act once and rolled a 2 or something....but I'm not bitter....) and since that time have gone out of my way to collect rabbit figures of all sorts. So, long story, er, long, it's time to start thinking about painting the rest. A big motivation for this is that I recently went in on a Killer Rabbits kickstarter and have a horde more coming soon. The other motivator to get going was Reaper releasing 03929: Drangus, Duckman Warrior, the hereditary enemy of bunnies everywhere! So step one was to find them. I spent a good hour digging through boxes and I "think" I found them all (excluding any painted exchange figures I may have received due to mentioning in EVERY survey I've done for years). So at the front we have the 4 Reaper bunnies and the Doom Bunny. The grey resin is Bombshell, as are their little doom bunny and jackelope (it still counts!) sidekicks. The right side are all Darksword. The left in front are Oathsworn. Back left there are 6 spear bunnies that I believe were Ral Partha from the same era as the Doom Bunny (they have the same shields). And at the back is Nibbles, from CMoN's Arcadia Quest, which a friend ordered for me with their KS order. BTW, if you know of any other bunny figs, feel free to mention them here, or PM me directly if you prefer. I'm always on the lookout for more. Up next will be bagging all the multipart figs now that I've got them sorted, then figuring out what to start with. That may not be a quick process, but I'll (theoretically) get there.

A little speedpaint job before breakfast today; after playing Burrows and Badgers at Christmas, my brother and I agreed that we’ll run some at Gencon this summer. So, I need to work up another couple of war bands. For the Redwall fans, I gather this is not-Cluny the Scourge...

So in between crises at work and preparing to move, I did finish off one little Burrows and Badgers mouse one day at lunch. It took me the rest of the week to get him based...

So I realized I only had one painted dwarf (!) when one of my GMs asked me if I had anything for the Jadeborn, a race in Exalted that is roughly equivalent to dwarves except for the 0.001% who are roughly equivalent to elves. And they are also sort of stone golems. Based on jade. I thought Reaper's 60184: Meyanda, Android Priestess, sculpted by Bobby Jackson, would do well for one of the elfy artisan Jadeborn and I pulled out a random assortment of seven (because of course) dwarves for the worker and warrior Jadeborn. All paints used are Golden Matte Fluid Acrylics. Color mixes are (usually) noted, but not exact ratios. Questions are welcomed and I will try to answer them. Critiques are appreciated. This is the way I usually start miniature figures: Lightly primed with Titanium White, then when that is dry, washing it over with Burnt Umber. Burnt Umber is a dark, transparent pigment that settles into crannies when thinned down and shows the details very well. It also gives a nice warm undertone to later paint layers. I left a few crystal and gem areas white so they will have more luminosity later. This is the Armadillo Warrior from Oathsworn. In my Lost World Project I use him as Xolotl one of the last Elders who fights the Reptilians. I put a few skulls on the base and a few bugs. This is the delightful SS18, Dwarf Queen from Oathworn's Sensible Shoes line, sculpted by Michael Lovejoy. I painted her up as a part of a project I called "Jade Green and Seven Dwarfs," the WIP thread of which, though incomplete, is here. She's a sweet princess / queen. I particularly liked the little flower molded into her war hammer. I tried to make her skin look a little darker, but I am not sure that comes across, especially with all that golden hair.

I have had a little time to do some painting this week. While my main ongoing project has to do with filling out the orders of battle for my five-country fantasy campaign, my brother has been after me to get a Burrows and badgers war band ready by Christmas, when I next expect to see him again. As it happens, the Muse has been receptive to his entreaties, and the inspiration available to me this week was for Burrows and Badgers. I find that disrespecting the Muse is usually a bad idea, so here we are. These two are the otter ranger and the mole mercenary; I recently was working on some 40mm historical landsknechts, so he was in my comfort zone. I know that Michael Lovejoy reads these forums, and he has commented that he likes to sculpt everything in one piece because he doesn't like assembling things. This is a position which I am 100% in agreement with, and that contributes to these figures being a real pleasure to paint. they also are fast to do. The mole mercenary turned out to be about a 45 minute job, so I could have done him as a speed painting contest (minus some paint mixing time I'd have needed for contest conditions.) As soon as I finished these, I pulled out the next three I'd already primed and started on of them, and then rooted through the boxes from the two Kickstarters I'd backed. So, more to come...

I was moving miniatures around in the basement yesterday in preparation for moving and ran across the box containing the Stonehaven giants Kickstarter figures. When I ordered them originally, I figured that the first one up would be the sleeping/dead giant. I was/am expecting him to feature more as an objective marker than an active combatant. Anyway, I washed him off and spray primed him last night, after which I was afflicted with the fear that the resin might not be compatible with the spray primer, but I appear to have lucked out. This is just as well, as it looks like these giants are going to be exclusive to the Kickstarter production run, so replacing it could be a problem. I have also primed the next six Oathsworn Burrows and Badgers figures that I wished to do, so I was feeling ambitious this morning. In practice for the new house where there won’t be a permanent painting space, I pulled out the travel paint kit and had at things, working back and forth between them as colors overlapped. The raven mage got a purple hood in honor of the local American football team. Since ravens appear to be pretty uniformly black, I was mostly drybrushing some highlights. After spraying, I should have made them even contrastier, because they are pretty invisible without the flash. Live and learn... Anyway that puts me up to a dozen, so I should be able to run two war bands and get a game on the table relatively soon, even if just as a solo.

On to the next B&B figures, a heavily armored squirrel knight and a highwayfox...

I had to take the car in for some service today, so I threw my travel paint kit in my bag and grabbed a few Burrows and Badgers figures. My brother recently decided that we should play Burrows and Badgers, and has a war band painted up. I don't know if I'll have mine done by Gencon or not, but at least I now have a figure of my own. Of the figures which I picked for my first batch, one's a landsknecht and two are in tartans, so I decided I'd better start with somebody simpler. When I checked the Oathsworn site for a hint on the weasel fur markings, I was amused to discover that I had decided on a very similar color scheme. I am considering this to be a speed painting practice item; it only took me about 45 minutes to do. As usual, I attracted quite a few curious passers-by.

The kickstarter is now Live.
