  1. Now that the competition is wrapped up, I can finally present this Ram Armour Pin-up I painted in the distant past (Well, 6 months ago), she's a plastic mini from Kingdom Death. Didn't win (Most of the entries were way out of my league), but I think she's one of my better paint-jobs, and I get a participation award too, so it's all good! As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.
  2. While the title may sound like a part of a weird children's book series, it's actually a trio of Kingdom Death Pin-ups! The Bug Thief, her right arm goes across her face so I've left it off for now. The Swamp Girl. I have to paint her base, paint her and then sandwich the clear bit in between without making a mess. The Dogpole Mother, the hard part will be painting the Dogpoles so that they actually look like something! Starting with the Bug Thief:- Painted her face and boobs (Rosy Flesh > Flesh Wash > Rosy Flesh > Rosy Flesh/Light Flesh), added a touch of Scarlett Red to the final highlight for her lips and painted her eyes (The left one is a bit buggy, but I'm hoping it'll look better once I paint her hair).
  3. Separating a bee from its honey is always a risky prospect, but especially when they are giant, man-eating Titan Bees. However, when smeared with a concoction made with the pulped remains of it's larva, a person is temporarily rendered virtually invisible to the Bees. And so the Bug Thief started a thriving business stealing bee babies to make into potions, but how did she survive going into the hive in the first place? That's a mystery to be solved another day. Had a lot of fun painting this one, her bee striped fur thingy didn't come out like I hoped (and she's stuck with rather wonky eyes) but I think she ended up looking fairly decent overall. As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.
  4. Presenting the Ram Pin-up from Kingdom Death, I imagine this is what quest-giving NPCs look like in that world, sketchy, half-naked dudes who always have one more dubious item for you to fetch before they'll let you have the promised fancy sword. I'm reasonably happy with how he turned out. He's a little rough in places, where my brush control wasn't quite up to the task, but I don't think I did too bad. As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.
  5. Presenting Octoberfest Aya, a pair of seasonal themed minis from Kingdom Death. Like all their recent holiday releases you get a large scale pin-up version, and a smaller, not quite so scantily dressed, gaming one. There's a few issues (painting beer is hard!) and they're both a bit rougher looking in hand, but I'm really happy with them, particularly Big Aya as I don't paint many large scale minis. As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.
  6. Spent the last three days doing new techniques I've never done before. First-time face texturing, using an airbrush, and first time NMM.
  7. Presenting the Leather Queen, a Pin-up version of the Leather Armoured Survivors from Kingdom Death, hopefully she's wearing just enough to not need a nudity link. I'm pretty out of practice painting Pin-ups so she's a little rough around the edges, and I never could figure out a way to make her hair look like hair, but at least it's another one finally finished. As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.
  8. Here are 2 of the pin-up babes from Wargamer LLC's kickstarter Hot & Dangerous. First up Lagertha the Shieldmaiden. I love how her cloak turned out. Not so happy with the face, it look pretty terrible in the photos, its not so bad in hand. I need to get better at thinning my paints I think. Rosie the Bowman (the official name). I did not like the concept art at all, but the finished sculpt turned out great. I love how she has a lot of spunk.
  9. For your consideration: Reaper Bones miniature Female Anti-Paladin. It wasn't until I started on my idea for the shield that I realized that *it* was the Main Character. Not exactly a daemon-possessed sword, but a symbiotic relationship none-the-less. Extravagant tone with bright, decadent colors. She-Hulk for the hair. Massive Voodoo for the dots. (More dots!) My cat Zen for the eyes. (He's a Tom.) Lots of non-textured areas to tell a story. Great player character or reoccurring NPC. A lesson of extreme - in Color and form. The armor was protective but the clothing was tattered like a torn mesh bodysuit. Heavy straps encircled limbs and the armored boots formed like hooves. Toothy maw adornment on the armor hints at hunger. A very introspective Pin-Up. I hope you enjoy. :)
  10. I've been hearing about Scale75 paints for awhile now, and after watching Willen's video I put them on my Christmas list. No one bought them for me though, so I had to go and pick them up myself. To start I decided to go with their Flesh set. Overall I like my Vallejo, but some of their skintones look a little orange to my eyes. Of course I can mix what I want, but a little variety is never a bad thing. Their sets also come with a small painting guide. If it wasn't for having four languages on it, the guide could have been printed on an index card. It's not going to outdo Willen's video, but here's my little unboxing. Aside from the paint you'll notice some tape and a pin vise. The tape is a little trick I learned at work; it keeps cheap ink from rubbing off of bottles. There's no point in covering the whole thing, but a strip over what's important can save some confusion later. Interestingly enough, the labels on a $3 bottle of paint are not really higher quality than those on a $180 bottle of similar size. While the bottles themselves are not as rounded as the Vallejo ones they do use essentially the same tip, with one important difference. The Scale75 is not drilled out at the factory. If you take the cap off and squeeze it'll be a bit messy. Vallejo's openings are about 1.5mm, while Reaper's are about 1.2mm. I actually like the slightly smaller opening so these got drilled to 1.2mm. Now that I have some new paint, I need something to try it out on. At first I was thinking bones, but I've already painted most of these in the box that were showing a bit of skin. Then I remembered that I had the Kingdom Death Pinups box just gathering dust on my shelf. Pinups it is! Back in like Jr high I used to do a bit of modeling. While most of what I had from back then is long gone, I did still have a bottle of polystyrene glue that I'd kept. Does this stuff last for 20 years? There's one way to find out! That's right, cut a couple of ends off the sprues and glue them together. It made a nice bond so on to the first mini. I didn't fully assemble the Twilight Knight simply because that cape was going to get in the way of painting. She'll be painted in two sections and then glued together at the end. Drilling out for pinning isn't really necessary but I went ahead and made a hole in the body just so I didn't have to worry about clipping my paperclip holder off completely flush. I also drilled out her heels so I could pin her to whatever I end up using as a base. Now for a color scheme. I don't really follow the fluff for KD, but I though the colors on the included card were kind of boring. Since she's a twilight night she should have twilight colors! A quick search turned up a few that I liked. At first I was thinking the first image, but now I'm leaning more towards the second. To start, the cape. It's the single largest item on the mini so I decided to go with blue. Now I'm not going to paint a sunset on it or anything, but I am thinking about a dark to light transition on it. I based it with the appropriately named Night Blue, but in the process discovered that it wasn't a good choice due to it being a bit transparent. Lesson learned for next time, but for now after many layers I have something to start from. And now, time to watch more football.
  11. As the title says, this thread is all about Kingdom Deaths plastic pin-up set. With Twilight Knight and Forsaker already finished, meet the remaining girls:- Since I don't batch-paint very well, I'm working on one at a time, starting with Survivor:- At this point all I've done is basecoat her skin with a 1:1 mix of Vallejo Dwarf Skin/ Flat Flesh and given it a wash of Vallejo Flesh Shade.
  12. Here's the latest mini from my Meet the Girls WIP thread, the Great Game Huntress:- I got a little carried away making her base! Super pleased with her outfit, and I seem to be getting better at painting short hair. Unfortunately it looks like I've had a few problems with my varnish here and there. Comments and criticisms are, as always, much appreciated.
  13. Here's my recently finished Survivor pin-up from Kingdom Death, along with my Forsaker and Twilight Knight pin-ups who I painted a while ago but never made a Show-off thread for (at least I think I didn't). Survivor:- I could've been a bit neater painting her bikini (stupid shaky hands!), but overall I'm pleased with how she turned out. (WIP thread available here Forsaker:- That basing idea worked so much better in my head! Her hair and cape could've used stronger highlights, but again, I'm pleased with how she looks. Twilight Knight:- Could've put more work into her sword blade, but I think she's the best of the three. So what do you think of the girls so far? Comments and criticisms are, as always, very appreciated.
