Good evening Reaperaurians! So just finished this one up and got him photographed, a mini I've been wanting to paint forever but just recently found the time and space, it's a very nice classic Ral Partha Dragon, sculpted back in the eighties by the immortal Julie Guthrie, sculptress extraordinaire! Biggest and only real problem was to decide on the color, but once I did, it didn't really feel like it took too long. The other thing was I didn't know how low I wanted to paint those bumps and spiked black, so I kind of just painted them at the head and then at the tail but I had liked the shading I'd done on the rest of the bumps enough that I just decided to leave him red. and then some closeups: So hope you enjoy him, I think this brings up my lifetime total of painted dragons to maybe six or seven. Haven't done too many!

Hello all you Reaperloogans! So this one I finished a few nights ago is Valania the Sorceress. I'm not sure who sculpted her, but I really did enjoy painting her. She's one of the newer Partha figures, I think after they became Iron Wind, and she's got a tab base, not an integrated base. She's also a bit larger, not the 25 mm of old. She's actually around the size of a Reaper figure. So for her skin I tried something a little different, I started out with Blushing Rose, because I wanted to have her be a little ruddy and pinkish. Hopefully she turned out okay!

Good evening Reapertons! So I've been busy working on a little project, plus I'm painting some Christmas elves for my mom, but amidst everything else I got inspired to repaint a figure that for some reason I've always liked quite a lot. She's a very simple figure, and I painted her first probably way back in 1980 something, probably between 1982-1986. She was sculpted by Dennis Mize in a set of four other thieves in the Children of the Night range. I've actually painted three of the four, still haven't gotten around to painting the last one with a grappling hook. Anyway, showing off new to old: and here is the original miniature, way back from the funky monkey eighties: and here she is when I painted her maybe in the early 2000's, I'm guessing between 2004-2006: and here they are all together: So the oddest thing about these is that I've really never succeeded in varying from the basic color scheme. There's always a bit of a change, but I always envisioned her as a dusky skinned, desert-themed thief. One of these days I have a feeling that I'll paint her again, and I'll try to do a hugely opposite color scheme, blonde hair and bright clothing. Who knows when though, it seems it takes me over a decade to get to a new version of a figure!

Hello to all you Reaperthalians! Here's another figure I just got done with, Shara Darksteel, a Ral Partha/Iron Wind Metals figure. I really like her skull mask, and tried to give her some darker slightly Gothy colors, without making her just black, and her robe ended up looking more or less like a monk's robe. my settings that I use seem to tamp down the color of these figures, her hair is much more vibrant and the features on her bolts are a lot more red. I used bright skin as her base color, which was a color I hadn't used in quite a while so that was nice to do something different. I wish I knew who the sculptor was for this miniature, but not quite sure. Might have to hunt her down in the Lost Mini Wiki. So anyhoos, more to come as long as breath flows from my body and my hands don't shake! Hope everybody had a nice Turkey Day!

Here's a few more Partha classics, three more elves sculpted by Tom Meier in around 1976-1977, a musician that belongs I think to a command group, the commander with that command group, and a female elf that I think came separately? Used the same color schemes I had for my earlier elves, hope you enjoy!

Hello Reapervites! So here are three more Wood Elf figures, been working on a group of these and getting them finished little by little. With them all, want them to be kind of the same but a little bit of variety, so tried to vary clothing colors and hair colors, but keeping it all in natural and autumn colors, browns, greens and oranges/yellows. So anyhoos, here are three more: Tried to some freehand that would tie in on the shield and banner. My freehand is sometimes not the greatest, but oh well, give me something to want to learn better! So enjoy!

Hello all you Reaperlodytes! Continuing the work on some old school goodness, more Ral Partha elves from 1976 I think: These are all wood elves, and I've got some more coming, so I'm trying to get them painted in browns, yellows, oranges and greens. These are their two spearmen. Just like the Elven Princess, back in the pre-history of miniatures. Super straight forward, a little awkward, amazing to compare these to Tom Meier's more recent figures!

Good evening Reaperologists! So tonight taking a journey back to the past in the late seventies when Ral Partha was in its infancy, here is a Ral Partha Elven Princess, sculpted by Tom Meier. A simple miniature from a simple time, it shows how far miniature sculpting has come over the years with an early Meier sculpt. Take this one an compare it to his more contemporary works, from Dark Sword Miniatures for example: More oldies coming soon!

Hello all you Reaper Acolytes! So painted this one as a gift for a friend, now that she's got it, can finally show it off: A Thumper Standard Bearer, I think sculpted by Richard Kerr. It was so hard not go go all crazy Easter Bunny on this one, so added a few Easter eggs, quite literally. Hopefully his banner is legible! After listening quite often and watching Anne Forester's Twitch channel, one great tip she gave was to start with your free hand using a white base instead of black. I did so this time, so hopefully the banner text and the belt are a bit brighter than they otherwise would have been had I used a black base color. Anyhoos, enjoy and a premature Happy Easter to all!

Good evening my Reaperhoovians! So just finished up this little blister pack of Shadowrun Elves sculpted by Ral Partha either latter eighties/early nineties, by Dennis Mize. Two ladies and two gentlemen, challenge as always was figuring out what colors I wanted for them. Being it's all funky monkey science fictiony, can't help but thinking of a little more lively colors and lively hair colors for the most part. and I figured the last figured I'd do as a Drow, no idea if there are any Drow in Shadowrun but painting's not solving world peace or saving lives, so even if there are no Drow in Shadowrun, nobody will lose a finger. And here's the group as it's all together: I wanted them to fit all in one page so I didn't put them on bases, and I painted the rim black, and I can see a little bit of irregularities on that. Not sure if I may eventually actually either repaint the base or actually put them on bases so they don't fall over. The biggest problem is after I take them off their temporary base, I don't want to touch them and that's where it all gets tricky. Anyhow, a problem for later, hope you enjoy these in the meantime!

Back on my PC I can upload the final shot of the mounted knight Lucardus von Kemet. Because he is a famous character in the world of The Dark Eye, I put a sign on his base to give his name clearly to everyone. As a leader of the Undead and user of dark powers I gave him a look similiar to his underlings. He is a desperate man who wields war in the name of his demonic mistress. Painting process is in the wip forum.

A few years ago (hmmm…2015), Iron Wind Metals did a Kickstarter for a Chaos Wars revival. The first two armies featured were orcs and elves. I got most of my compact orcish army painted a while back, but was looking at a new set of rules last week (Fantastic Battles). I needed at least one more leader stand to use my Chaos Wars orcs, and I knew that I had a few orc leaders from that Kickstarter I hadn’t finished. Happily, I was even able to find them among my boxes of primed figures on sticks.

Good afternoon my Reapergogglians! So just finished up Ann Penchyk, a Shadowrun character apparently (don't know too much about Shadowrun still, after months and months of painting different Shadowrun figures. I really dig this little blister pack, where we have Ann dressed in her corporate 9-5 job, and then the another version of her, the "adventurer" version of her. So with that in mind, I at least tried to keep her skin tones, hair color, et cetera the same so it looks like she just might be the same gal in different attire. 9-5 Ann: and how she spends her time Shadowrunning on the weekend: and here they are together, side by side: This is the first Shadowrun orc I've painted and from what I could tell with all the other artwork I've found on line, Shadowrun orcs can be any normal person's skin color, so even though I thought it was a bit strange, I painted her starting out with Tanned Highlights and worked up and down from there instead of doing some type of green base. So ta-ta for now, hope you enjoy!

This is the mounted knight Lucardus von Kemet. Back in the 90s a product of FanPro and nowadays casted by Ral Partha. My Kids used this model a lot, so I decided to Paint this next. His Mount seemed to be a little small and didnt fit to a grandmaster of a Order of knights. So I Made a Base which should impose a little Hill on the battlefield.

Hello all you Reaperhemians! So my last four minis were a blister pack of Ral Partha Shadowrun Tribals, sculpted by Dennis Mize, with a date stamped on the bottom of 1992, so 19 years ago.(EDIT -apparently I can’t do math. I was thinking a moment ago, wait, my kid is twenty eight years old and he was born in 1992, so the miniature is actually 28 or so years old!) I really enjoyed working on these figures. The first thing was the Native American skin, for which I used the Redstone Triad to get figured out. I hope it doesn't look too red. The other thing was all the beads they have on their clothing, for which I gave up and decided to go with the same colors for each bead set, even though I though of doing different colors in the same string of beads but kind of gave that thought up because I didn't want it to take forever. The other thing I kind of tried was to use a red, white and blue color theme for the accents, with their natural leathers and I threw in a bit of green and yellow. So anyways, hope you all enjoy!

Good morning Reaperniks! So I've had this mini painted already about a week, but here in Omaha, it's been mostly kind of cloudy and rainy, so wasn't able to get a decent picture until this morning. This is Merlyon the Sorcerer, formerly of Thunderbolt Mountain and now being released by Ral Partha Legacy. Pretty fun figure to paint, and it's more akin to that 25 mm of yore: I still have a few more from this range I want to get around to painting. This one also had the eyeholes poked into the eyes, but they worked out this time pretty simply. Eyeholes in the owl too! Anyhoos, please enjoy responsibly!

Took a shot at the ol OSL. This model is from my youth that I'd always been afraid to paint because i didn't want to mess it up. Years later, now I feel like my skills are better and it was worth a shot. Not only did I take a shot, I did it with a real challenge applied to it. I was either going to mess it up - or REALLY mess it up. BATTLE REPORT! Wins: * Using the colors red and purple seem very wizardly. Felt like a strong combo and happy with it. * The OSL I did was using a dry brush and sweeping it from the main source and only moving in that direction. * After the initial area had been 'zoned' I went in and brought up the colors further. I had a difficult time identifying what would be lit or not. Misses: * The highlight on the face is way too much. I wanted a light cast to it, but Iwasn't thinking like sitting in front of the sun. Help. * What colors to use for bringing up a light source? I was thinking some kind of fire getting cast away. I went Orange, Yellow, White, but only hitting white up close and fading to deeper colors farther from the source. * The shading in the cape and undercape - I didn't do anything but feel it does need something. Does it look strange without it? If I were to base this one, I'm wondering how I can really knock this light effect out on the base, too. I may end up just leaving this as is and thinking fondly of it as a first attempt at OSL. I also think having taken a challenge piece from my childhood and honoring it with something fun to do in my adulthood felt...redeeming.

With High Elves, I always have color issues, but end up invariably towards blues and grays. Just a few of a great number of elf figures Chris FitzPatrick sculpted for Partha back in the day! Enjoy!

And hello again, my Reaper brethren and sistern, Another mini I finished just this afternoon, a Ral Partha Mage with Wand, sculpted by Dennis Mize back in the late seventies or early eighties. He came from the Children of the Night range, and his blister pack was originally called Shadow Elves or something like that, but nowadays at Iron Wind Metals, he's just known as Mage with Wand. I was going to use my normal camera to take these pictures, but my battery died and I didn't have any left at home, so took this one again too with my iPhone. he came out okay, not sure if too much contrast? Unlike the Unicorn I just posted, this one is only two photos, a front and a back. The only thing I'm not sure if I'm that happy with is his wand. The little jewel on top I was thinking of reddish-orange, but it may have turned out too much like the chestnut brown of the holding part of the wand. Anyhoos, this was a relatively simple mini to paint, not a lot of dingley danglies, which makes for a pretty quick job. In this blister pack he's got a female and two other male shadow elves. I'm almost kind of inspired to paint the rest of them as well. I've already painted the female three times, but the other two males haven't done yet. We'll see how inspired I get and if I throw them in my queue. Being they were called Shadow Elves, I thought of a drow vibe and one of the versions of the chick I actually did paint as a drow. Alas, we'll see what I end up doing, so many miniatures and only 30-40 years to live.

Good evening Reaper Hoppers and Poppers, So I just finished this miniature, who is a pretty small one. She's Gwenyvere, from Tom Meier's Arthurian line at Thunderbolt Mountain, currently being produced by Ral Partha Legacy. I just got a new iPhone, and I took the pictures with it. I think the pictures came out really nicely, and have done an automatically good job on the exposure and all. My concern is does the automization of the exposure make it any different than if I would have had to work a little bit with the exposure? To give a comparison, here is how my camera turned out: It's a lot darker. Anyhoos, looking for photographic opinions. And to give you an idea of how small this figure it is, here she is in comparison to a US quarter:

Hello everyone, here are pictures of a dragon I completed Yesterday. This is a Ral Partha 10-463, T'Char Dragon of The Flame and Fury sculpted by Sandra Garrity in 1992. I bought this model in 1993 and assembled it in 1995. It has been on a shelf all these years. It’s a pleasure to see it finally painted. This amazing sculpt is 175mm tall, almost 7 inches at the top of the wings. The original model comes with a nice base around which I added more rocks and branches. I made the flames with Liquitex heavy gel and 3d printed a 125mm wide base to complete the vignette. Nowadays, this 12-piece dragon is still available from Iron Wind Metals. I painted it exclusively with Reaper MSP paint. Here’s the list of colors I used;

Hello Reaperdeepers! So got this one finished, a classic Sandra Garrity figure from her Ral Partha days, Ciera the Swordmistress: not sure if it's noticeable, but as I had asked Anne Forester this morning on her Twitch show about chainmail still having empty, unpainted holes. This is what I was referring to. I did washes and it didn't get into each every hole. As per @dks I need to get in there and individually try to fill them. I'll try that for the next figure, t that is what I ended up with for now. Anyways, a small and simple figure, fun to paint, hope you enjoy her!

Good afternoon all you reaperfiles! So I haven't painted anything by Sandra Garrity for the longest of times, so I'm glad I started this little figure up, Ellana Dragonmistress, a female druid she sculpted long ago for Ral Partha. Beautiful little figure with her traditionally petite eyes. The hardest part on this one, besides the eyes, was deciding on what colors I'd use. As I listen to a lot of Anne Forester's Twitch channel over lunch and she talks so much about color theory, I always wonder if my colors match or not, but ultimately, without a color wheel to whip out, I end up guessing and hope it all ends up matching more or less. One day I'd like to figure out what colors totally clash 1000% and paint with those, but that is for some future miniature surely. So here she is: One thing I really like about her is that besides her staff, she carries no weapons, which makes her a reasonably simple miniature to paint, but also gives you that feeling that she knows she's so bada$$ that she just doesn't need any weapons. I also really like her cowboy boots. Why a blue dragon head? No idea, it's what arrived to my brain. So anyhoos, enjoy!

Two dragons from 2 different times, done with the same colors. Basically I had both of these on the table and I decided to just use the same palette for both First up: the Panther dragon from Ral Partha. This guy is a long snakey one, his tail was very difficult to get to but overall fun to paint. This mini just seems to ooze stealth as she slips round alleys and empty streets making people disappear. This miniature has been sitting on my shelf for decades because I liked the art and the figure but I just didn't know what to do with it. I finally just broke down and said I am going to paint this! Then on the flip side is the Treasure Rocky. This little tyke has acquired his first hoard and he is insanely protective and proud. And he should be. I was looking at the reaper store and he and most of his pals are sold out, again! These are just a joy to paint and I love painting them. they are just so entertaining and so full of character that no matter what color you add to them or what you put them in they have to shine!
