  1. I kickstarted bones 4 to jump start mini collection after receiving the dubious honor of "Default DM" for my friends. After watching a few tutorials, my gf and I spent Saturday afternoon prepping and painting our first-ever minis. Any tips/feedback would be much appreciated. Ghouls were painted using various colors from the bones 4 paint sets A and B.
  2. Finally got around to taking some pictures of the work I have been doing. Some of this was done early march, some done in the few minutes when i wasn't either sleeping or working. This has been sitting on my "want to do this shelf" (different from my 'tried and failed shelf of shame' Anyway there was a little picture that someone put together of the Jungle titan rocking out on a photoshoped in guitar and the temple dragon as the lead singer. So i took this to the logical conclusion and created the band "Punk Lizards" they use the dragon plants as part of the light show. This is not the greatest work, but it was fun and i will enjoy having it up and on display! Hope everyone enjoys!
  3. So, I've finished a mini for once. Yay! I guess since he is a villager I didn't feel pressure to get him right, and somehow he came out amazing! Further away shot.
  4. Something strangely missing from my Thundering of Giants, Stone Giants! I'm a big fan of the new Lost Valley sculpts from Bones 4.
  5. Another set from the "Lost Valley" expansion from Reaper Miniatures Bones 4, the Jadefire Tribe Orcs.
  6. This was a ton of fun to paint. Citadel skulls on the base.
  7. Presenting Ziba the Efreeti (although I've gone for more of a giant, scary woman version) who was Marchs Bones Black promo mini. I think I did a pretty good job with her head, the rest not so much, but I had fun painting her. As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.
  8. Tips? What do I paint next from bones 4?
  9. So, I chose my first Bones 4 mini to paint. To be precise, Mr. Mouse chose her, but that's neither here nor there. I think I'm done with her face. I struggled with the eyes for a while before I noticed that the dark elves in Izzy's art have glowy eyes. Thus, she gained a simple bright eye color. Ok I decided to blend a little more.
  10. So, I'm back. And I decided I needed to paint lots of skin. Recently watched the painting DVDs from Dark Sword, specifically the Marike ones. So I'm going to be trying to practice glazing. Note: I know this bust won't be perfect. But this is me attempting to improve, so all advice and comments are appreciated! Moving on, here is the bust in question, the beautiful maiden bust from Reapercon 2018. And here is my progress this far: So, I wanted to post this because it is relevant to the blending I'm doing. This is from the class I took from @Corporea last reapercon, with some blending with glazes attempted. I hadn't got this right at the con, and would love for that progress to be checked on here! I'm going for high contrast, but not as high as here, so I thought this would be a better way to get some judgement on blending. I seem to be losing a lot of contrast in the process, and would like some advice on what I might be doing wrong.
  11. This pretty lady jumped straight to the front of my painting queue, and it was about time I painted another Reaper mini:- Here she is, all cleaned up and undercoated in primer. Got a little further today:- Not going down the red skin route, so Ziba is currently covered in a basecoat of 1:2 Dwarf Skin/Rosy Skin with a Flesh Wash. Aiming to get her skin finished tonight.
  12. So, I did my first conversion and the Wild West of Oz bones tin man, turning him into Mr. Mouse's character Red Sash in our Eberron campaign. Base coats are done. Going to be trying to do a TMM technique for tabletop plus.
  13. Painted up the demi-lich from the Bones line. He is rather small. Decided against any OSL, it would just drown out the skull.
  14. I painted up two lemures from the Bones line. I tried to closely match the colorscheme I have used to paint some lemures from otherworld miniatures. I am pleased with the results. (Scroll down for family picture!) They were pretty tough to paint, for they did not have a lot of texture to them. Earlier Bones and all that. Still fun to do. :)
  15. Attached are photos of a slew of different miniatures and projects I've been working on in 2019. The Battleguard Golem is clearly a Warforged Paladin in my mind as was painted accordingly; he's mounted onto a Frontline Games base. The Jungle Titan is on the base of a Reaper Dragon I gave my son as a toy previously. The Galladoria Games entrances are both attached to Frontline Games Stones Dungeon tiles. The Terratiles are from a Kickstarter that started fulfilling last month; they were a ReaperCon vendor in 2017 and make good stuff! On the CAV Thunderbird and Raptor, I wanted to simulate some lights; not as much love for the Kahn. The Thunderbird was missing a shoulder mount so I subbed in a axehead from a long-age discarded figure. The Iron Golem has inspired a monster in my DND world called a Forgeblast Iron Golem and I wanted to simulate discoloration of the iron as though it is being superheated from within; I also wanted it to look as though heat was trying to escape from a few plate patches. Khai the Huntress from Bombshell is on a metal Reaper skulls base; I painted three of the skulls with a glowing green eye to add more interest. Like everyone else, just trying to be creative, get better and have fun.
  16. Well, I did it. We now have a cute little Christmas scene with mama Blightfang and her wee ones getting ready for the holidays! A little early for some holiday cheer but it was fun Learned a few things: don't use wood glue to hold down snow it gives a disturbing yellow cast. Blightfangs scales are actually leaves, making her more of a forest dragon than a classic green, and I think one of her children was adopted... I really had a lot of fun with this, even if it wasn't my best work. It came out well. I really like the red and teal fades on the wings. I hope everyone enjoys this little window into the holidays... and one more thing. Although it shows off the teal wings really well and it's an adventurers favorite view, the backside of a dragon is not the most exciting!
  17. Games workshop head with reaper body and an old plaster base.
  18. After wanting to learn how to paint minis for a long time, I was finally encouraged by some friends to take the leap. I found the Reaper 'Learn to Paint' kits and have found them an incredible resource for a new painter. While I know my work on these minis isn't perfect, I'm really happy with how they came out for the first models I've ever painted. Working through these has given me a lot of confidence, and I like it a lot more than I thought I would! I will say that I struggled more with the layering technique in the second kit than I did with the wash/dry brush technique from the first kit. I'm happy with the progress I've made, though. Now that I've finished all of the minis that came in the kits, my next project is to paint the minis in my Fury of Dracula game. I'm really happy to finally be exploring this side of the gaming hobby!
  19. This troll has been sitting for a year half painted, finally finished him. Any suggestions welcome.
  20. One of my players uses this figure for his goth, warlock, in my campaign. Had to pin a new sword as the old one was frail and couldn’t handle 10 years of tabletop abuse. So after some badly needed touch ups and sword swap, he’s/it’s ready for the table again
  21. I have not shown anything for a long time. And I have not painted anything for a couple of months. Finally I had a couple of hours of free time and painted that Bones Vampire. As usually, all I'm aiming for is tabletop "quality". For a first mini after a month-long break, done in a couple of hours I'm quite satisfied. I think I'm going to do a bit more with the inner side of the cape (more highlights). Any constructive criticism welcome.
  22. Can never have too many Orcs My apologies, the picture came out dark
  23. I'm interested in doing a chess set using Reaper Miniatures. Recommendations please.
  24. Finally finished the pair for my gaming group, with the wolf being the last. At this rate I’m averaging 1 every 18 months.
  25. So my girl ( @Zanderina) and I got into this wonderful hobby together, and we've developed a few tricks and styles our own. Well yesterday I was told my style is very dark and 'Earthy'. No offense taken, but it hit me I do need to extend my color pallet choices. This lead to a small challenge between us, as we're apparently very competitive with each other. We'd pick out our model to be done next, and the other person would pick the paints to use. My model choice was Hosilla (#60172), and received the following Reaper paints to use: Dragon Red (9401), Cats Eye Green (9414), Bleached Linen (9436), Punk Rock Pink (9286), Leather White (9062), Honed Steel (9053), Ginger Cookie (9659), Cursed Gold (9464), Kobold Scale (9458), Golden Blonde (9033), Tusk Ivory (29825), & Black Indigo (9603) Her choice of model was the Arcanamirim Wizard (#60135), and I gave her the following paints: Old Bronze (9197), Dungeon Slime (9415), Solid White (29842), Chestnut Brown (9071), Sunrise Orange (9406), Wilderness Green (9411), Stark Naked (9682), Harvert Brown (9200), Goblin Skin (9457), Ashen Blue (9057), & Khaki Highlight (9123) Over the next couple weeks we will be posting up the WiP pics and hope to get feedback as we go. Let the fun begin!!
