  1. Texas Prints does a booth at ReaperCon and they have a fantastic assortment. He’s based on a Reaper Base Boss 2. This figure will cover a large assortment of my RPG needs.
  2. As it is now Convention Eve (cause Wed’s the unofficial start of course), use this thread for pictures taken inside/during the con.
  3. I started painting my ringmaster Sophie last night and put a little more work in tonight. Still working on base coating. I thought I did a really great job with the eyes... then I took a look at my photo. I think the right eye (her left) needs to get redone. Colors used so far: Carnival Purple, Big Top Red, Palamino Gold, Noir Black, Caucasian Flesh
  4. There has been some talk on the boards of people's costumes, the wearing of them and how they change things and what people are working on. So I'd like to throw open the question, What is your costume? It can be any approach. Are you working on one now? Are you a fan who appreciates them but doesn't make them? Do you have a favorite costume? Do you have favorite memories of one? Do you like realism, or abstraction, history, sci fi, or fantasy? Does costuming connect to your gaming or other hobbies? When and where do you wear costumes? Are you making something for another person? Or for a doll maybe? What's your favorite one you've seen? What would you make if you had the materials and time? *** I'll start. I have a reproduction late-eighteenth century dress in a big floral print in shades of red and blue on white, complete with undergarments, big pockets, mitts, a ruffled cap, and cocked hat that I had been wearing to our neighborhood's annual Fourth of July parade. But I've been feeling weirder about it in the last few years since late eighteenth century dress has become political in a direction I am not. So I've found myself turning towards the struggles of the Suffragists a century ago. I've been reading old mail order catalogues from the First World War and checking out the eminently practical suits women wore at the time -- big pockets everywhere! At this point I have plans for nearly everything except a suit. I have undergear and petticoats, a blouse, nearly acceptable shoes, hats to be modified, a good pattern for spats, and a pageant-style banner edged with green and purple ribbon* ready to be painted front and back with "Votes for Women". At this point it would be nice to make a historically accurate suit, but looking at what I have, I think it would be a fairly convincing impression with any reasonably matched jacket and calf-length skirt. *Those are the colors of the English suffragists, not the US ones, but I'm okay with that.
  5. Hi everyone!!! 6. Hi: I did this last year. Old school DMs know there's nothing like a rust monster to strip a party of excess booty... I entered it in the 2022 Reaper Con as "Nom, nom, nom... Crunch." Thanks for looking! -t
  7. I may post a WIP because I took a bunch of pix on the way, but this is how she ended up in time for ReaperCon 2022. She got renamed along the way, because she seemed overly perky and sunny in disposition for a demon hunter. I learned a ton painting her, and the judges at RC22 gave me a boatload of very helpful feedback in how to improve her. I'd appreciate any advice you all have to offer as well! She's definitely a milestone figure for me, but I was still amazed when they gave her a silver medal. Thanks for looking! -t
  8. Went thru the web site and I can't find anything listing the hours for the Con, specifically for the vendor room? Trying to make up sign-up sheets for demos in our booth.
  9. (Now a 2022 WIP) Yes, a 2020 ReaperCon WIP! And a massive undertaking at that. I'm trying very hard not to nerd out and put this whole project into, er, Project. There's just so many pieces to keep track of, that maybe I'll just use this first post to keep track of things. Some background stuff, starting with a quote from the "Paint a giant robot! Group WIP" where I wrote some of what's planned: You can read the rest of that post here: Paint a giant robot post and a second one to see where I'm going with this: PLA print post in same topic Biggest takeaway is that, while useful, my PLA printer can only do so much. I have a resin printer backed on Kickstarter, but considering it's now 3 years late, I don't think I should hold my breath on it ever showing up. Especially when I can get a new Elegoo Mars resin printer with more capability for relatively cheap (<$300). The PLA machine was bought with both hobby and household goals in mind, and it's served well. But the resolution just ain't there! More on that down the posts. I also had the chance to gain some experience on paper plants at ReaperCon (Main post for that in the Terrain section post here: Vellum Paper Plants - Alien Jungle (WIP) Basically, I have the scrap booking machine to make my own alien plants: Which now leads me to this WIP. This is going to tie all those pieces together. The robot WIP will still be to get a good camo scheme, but that print job is not going to be used for the final diorama. Instead, that will be the resin printer's job. So, let's break down the WIP work that I can see so far, and will be edited later to add things and mark completions. Tasks to be completed: Figures Needed Wight (being pulled down backwards, caught by hidden lines) Gremlin Unit 01 (stole a supply crate and ran; actually just bait to get the larger CAV to follow) Gremlin Units 02 and 03 (trip line pair, successfully snagging Wight across the chest) Gremlin Units 04 and 05 (trip line pair, successful across another part of the chest) 2/27/22: Too busy; cut Gremlin Unit 06 (burner unit, cut Wight's left gun in two) Gremlin Units 07 and 08 (trap door unit, hiding entrance to jungle path with camo doors strapped to them) Gremlin Units 09 and 10 (trip line pair, successful across right thigh) 2/27/22: Too busy; cut Gremlin Units 11 and 12 (trip line pair, broken cable across chest, possibly falling over from sudden jolt) 2/27/22: Too busy; cut Gremlin Unit 13 (ECM unit, some large radar dish looking thing) EDIT: Maybe use older model (2018 or 19 ReaperCon entry) Gremlin Units 14, 15 and 16 (cargo units, loaded up with stolen supplies and headed out) 2/27/22: Too busy; cut Gremlin Units 17, 18, 19, and 20 (gun units) 2/27/22: Too busy; cut Gremlin Units 21, 22, and 23 (missile units) 2/27/22: Too busy; cut Gremlin Unit 24 (large gun unit) 2/27/22: Too busy; cut Gremlin Unit 25 and 26 (junked units; scavenged for parts?) 2/27/22: Not going to be a permanent camp, so no junkyard Gremlin Unit 27 (2nd style missile unit) 2/27/22: Too busy; cut Gremlin Unit 28 (personnel carrier unit) 2/27/22: Too busy; cut Wight Conversion Right Leg: cut from pelvis; reposition Feet: cut off both feet and swap positions since the tread is only on one foot Base: cut away from right foot, possibly keeping full base around left foot Left arm (maybe): cut gun into two pieces, having one falling to the ground after being cut by a heat lance/chainsaw rope Details to be included Camo doors at front leaving marks on the dirt path, but hiding the ambush from the main trail Pieces of old broken larger CAV units around 2/27/22: No longer a permanent encampment Wight gun cut in two, maybe showing inner details. May have to 3D print an add-on piece Dust being kicked up by the stolen crate (going to try using dyed cotton) IN WORK One cable snapping dynamically, with several bends and twists (superglue on thread?) Multiple vehicle tracks around camp Campfire and tents for people A latrine Other camp details (laundry, chairs, sports equipment, bored carvings, etc) Jungle Plants (V=Vellum cuts, B=bought, S=Sculpted, F=Found, P=Printed) Large lotus flower like plants, but dry land and maybe odd colors with a large conifer cone growing from the middle (V) Jester hat plant (balls on stems around a central point) (V) COMPLETED Spiky yucca like plant (V) Jagged leaf plant (V) Tentacle plant (V) Tripod trees (three spoke trunks) (V) Large palm fronds (S) Coral like trees (P) Horn tree (lots of horn shaped leaves from a central trunk) (P, V) Ball vine (like ivy but with odd leaf shapes) (V) Cabbage-like jungle plants with large wrinkled leaves (V) Fuzzy vines (thin wire coated with static grass) (S) Anything I can buy from N/HO scale train setups and painted alien-ish (B) Reaper figures that can be clipped and painted to be plants (B) Odd trees with strange leaf shapes (onion shaped) (V) IN WORK Random grass-like jungle plants (V) IN WORK Stem ends from mandarin oranges (seriously, pull one off and look at it, stem towards the ground) (F) Anything and everything else (VBSFP) Base mounting system Design and print modular tiles with bristles on top (basically, Bristle Block toys) Allows mounting of all the above jungle plants Fill in around plants with thinned plaster via a syringe to create the ground surfaces
  10. Here is a preview of the rest of the elves I had primed in Feburary and have recently finished this month thus March-ing elves hehe. will probably post the individuals tomorrow I just took a quick group shot.
  11. I was considering running a game at Reapercon this year (assuming it happens). Is there interest in Stargrave as a convention event? Are other people planning on running the game at the convention? buckyball
  12. We are very excited to be able to come back and participate at ReaperCon again this year! There are a ton of new releases that will be in-stock at the show and a couple of other special items. Bombshell Miniatures presents the 2021 Golden Maelee Award. This is a Sponsored Award section of the annual Reaper Master Series Open Painting Contest. All entries will be awarded a Gold, Silver, or Bronze Bombshell Dog Tag depending on the level of painting and presentation of each entry. The brand new, larger, Golden Maelee trophies will be awarded to the top three paint jobs (Gold, Silver, and Bronze) depending on the number of entries. Entries will need to feature at least one or more Bombshell Miniatures as the prominent subject. This can be anything from Babes, Sidekicks, KritterKins, to robots, or busts. Each entry will be judged on its own merit of painting execution, presentation, and skill. Entries from artists who have been professionally commissioned by Bombshell Miniatures are ineligible for the Golden Maelee Trophy at this time, they may still receive Dog Tag awards. BADGE RIBBONS We have some new ribbons. Come by our booth and receive our Bombshell ribbon for your visit. You may receive one of the other themed ribbons depending on your purchase. THE RESIN VAT This year we will be offering seconds and mis-cast resin parts for sale by weight. Just scoop out what you want and we'll weigh it at check-out. Although these castings didn't pass muster, you may find a gem that is just right for that conversion or terrain project down the line. COUNTERBLAST FOR SAVAGE WORLDS Over the past year we have been working on creating a setting book of our Counterblast game for the Savage Worlds RPG. Come by our booth and get the details to sit in on a couple of impromptu RPG preview sessions during the con. There may even be freebies involved! We are super excited to visit with all of you again and we're looking forward to see what you've been painting! Patrick & Vicky
  13. Hey its buc. I have run games of Rangers of Shadowdeep at Reapercon and the Reaper online conventions. Is there enough interest for me to run Rangers of Shadowdeep at Reapercon in person this year? Would it be better to put my effort into Stargrave and or Frostgrave? buckyball
  14. If you are still waiting on your exchange mini, look at your own risk..sadly my photo skills are lacking in catching all the contrast he has..
  15. This one was for a facebook competition about color. The rules were, basically, don't worry about anything else but color. Do something different with color. I started with the idea of a dress palette of blue, teal, purple, and magenta. Once I had those colors in place, it was a matter of incorporating them in different areas of the model. I went with cotton candy roses and a galaxy print on the wings. The galaxy was a matter of stippling the dress colors (plus a bit of white) back and forth until the effect was convincing. Then I masked the body of the model and flicked a stiff brush at the wings to make star patterns. I then went back to the dress colors and stippling to blend them in a bit. This was a blast to paint, because I've never really done anything like this before.
  16. So Reapercon 2019 was great as far as my classes went. I taught 6 courses, all were sold out, most were 2 people beyond capacity (which was fine because I was ready for that possibility) But I feel like 6 was just 1 too many to organize, prep, practice and deliver. All of my classes seemed to be very much enjoyed by those who attended and I got some awesome feedback from some folks. so.. which one to not do... that's a hard question as I enjoyed all of them. first, the must keeps. Water Effects. that class probably could have sold out 2 or 3 times. so many want to take that so its in. Realistic Gore. Overwhelming high praise from a lot of folks, so thats in. plus its it's ridiculously fun for me. Weathering and aging. This is an easy one for me to teach, always sells out and gets great reviews. Kind of have to keep due to demand. Up for debate. Dragons. I have taught multiple variants of this class. Its not bad, and folks seem to like it but Im not sure if the demand is still high. Tabletop painting. Sells out but slowly. Its one of my strengths though. fast painting at a high tabletop level. Kids classes. I do these mainly to ensure that the kids programming continues to grow. The little artists amaze me every time. Its a lot of fun and full of surprises by talented young artists. may need to keep on principle. other subjects I have taught but not sure if folks still would be interested. woodland bases, lava bases, ice and snow bases. batch painting. Blending toolbox. (kind of a whole host of various techniques to blend) obviously, Reaper would need to approve any of these, just thinking ahead so that my submission requests will be ready when its time. Id love your thoughts
  17. I just got done painting this amazing figure!
  18. To help alleviate the last minute rush order or trying to have them shipped to the hotel, I'm reminding people that personalized badge ribbons are a thing. Because of forum rules we can't post a link to where to order them but if you post here, a certain @ub3r_n3rd fairy may PM you details. The standard size that Reaper makes their ribbons is: Personalized Badge Ribbon 1-5/8"H x 3-1/2"W FAQ What are the ribbons for?! Reaper gives out ribbons for various tasks like joining a faction, taking a class, spending a LOT of money in the Reaper Booth. Some are known, some are secret. Individuals also have their own ribbons made and have their own criteria for earning them. In the past there has been a prize for longest chain (without duplicates) but this is subject to the whims of Reaper. Can I make my own ribbons? Absolutely. Anyone can have their own ribbon. Come up with fun (family appropriate) phrase and a task that you will have the receiver perform (again, family appropriate) then contact a ribbon company to have them printed. How many ribbons should I bring? If this is your first time giving out ribbons, 100 should be plenty. If you are teaching a class, running a game or a vendor, you probably want more as you will be interacting with more people. Is there a list of all the Ribbons and how to get them? Short answer, No. Part of the fun is talking to people to learn how they got a particular ribbon. When the con starts, I'll probably update this post with a list of known ribbons. like the ones Reaper gives out or ones individuals want to share. (Please don't share the how to unless you have the OK from the creator) Not even one spoiler? Ok, if you want to get the "Ludo, Friend" ribbon, you have to bring Ludo a small rock. (Rocks from the hotel decor will not be accepted.) Bonus points will be awarded on how fancy the rock is.
  19. REMINDER: THIS IS TODAY AT 6:30 PM Date: Sunday, Sep 1st Time: 6:30 PM Location: Houlihans (on-site restaurant connected to the hotel) Dinner menu: https://www.houlihans.com/eats-and-drinks/menu/dinner/denton Gluten-sensitive options (not guaranteed gluten-free): https://www.houlihans.com/eats-and-drinks/menu/gluten-free/denton Vegetarian options: https://www.houlihans.com/eats-and-drinks/menu/vegetarian/denton Seating is INDOORS. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It occurred to me out of the blue today that I've completely forgotten to call Houlihans (the on-site hotel restaurant) to see if seating for 30-40 people could be reserved on Sunday. I did this last year, and from all reports this arrangement was well-received and convenient for everyone. If there are no strong objections, I plan to call tomorrow (Monday) to see if such can be arranged again. I just hope it's still possible, it's getting a bit close... Last year I made the reservation for 6:30pm. For those that went last year, was 6:30pm a good time, or would earlier have been better? My thinking last year was that it would give some time after the auction for people to do some packing first (also gives a buffer in case the auction runs super long). Looking forward to seeing y'all SOON! Huzzah! --OneBoot :D
  20. Let's get this party started! Huzzah! --OneBoot :D
  21. Hey guys! I haven't stopped moving since Reapercon. This was my Paint It Pink entry, "Screening Ain't Sexy". Hope y'all like it. I enjoy things that are ridiculous, and applying fake eyelashes to a miniature monster paint pot fit the bill for me. :D C&C is always welcome!
  22. Howdy, ReaperCon Hobby Hijinks Paint by Die Roll, paint for an hour with colors chosen randomly for hair, skin, leather, metal, weapon, accents. Kev! P.S. Click thru for light box pics
  23. Neat sculpts, the next KS is going to be fun I wish Reaper's breakdown of judging criteria actually reflected how high bases score. Looking at their little percentage breakdown, you would never know that the base was so important .
  24. Ludo

    Names and Faces

While @Pegazus's Forumite bingo helps, I am TERRIBLE about remembering names. I will totally remember your face and what we did three years ago but for the life of me I can't even remember the first letter of your name. I figured I'd make a cheat sheet where people could share a photo and name so people can have a refresher before the con. Prefered name: Ludo Pronoun of Choice: He, It, Dude Huggability: Absolutely
  25. Howdy, Can't seem to glaze for the life of me, Kev! P.S. Click thru for light box pics
