    RBG: Olsvalter the Aged

Olsvalter the Aged by Tre Manor -Norse Human I am attempting to do more work with pigment rather than glazing with inks for shading. After reading the discussion about it, I thought it would be a good idea to push myself. The base is custom with spackle, The design is done by me, although you can't see it right now. This photo is not white balanced: It looked really odd when I tried to do it... The display of the colors is accuate though. The light bits are a light shade of GW: Shadow Grey.

    Draugr, Red Box Games

The Draugr from Red Box Games. I absolutely love these figures! I used this tutorial for the skin and I can't help to be somewhat befuddled with how many different hues I still managed... I'm really pleased with the result. If I was to change anything it would be to stain the clothing.
  3. I've started to ignore my fear and dive into my collection of Red Box Games miniatures. Here is the warp version of Morgrimn the Mighty!

    RBG-0132 Long Shot Loim

Back into the fray again with another of Tre's miniatures. This one has some interesting texture going on in the doublet. I've primed him, did some of my standard brown liner in dark areas. I gave him a green hood for right now, it might change. Gave him a simple face for the moment. Just base coating. Beginning getting my feel of the miniature, and deciding what I want to do with him. So here is the last of the brigands, Long Shot Loim.
  5. My favorite mini of the year so far, maybe: Tre Manor's Tradkarl the Wanderer, from his Red Box Games line. Just a totally fantastic mini, wish I could've done it greater justice. Was pretty happy with the animal-skin jacket (and pants) and the fur trim. Made the log of a Bones sprue and was stupid pleased with myself. Snow on it didn't turn out like I'd hoped, though. Thanks for looking!

    Smarty Sean - RBG-0129

A wonderful friend gave me Smarty Sean; so I decided to paint him up. He's been washed and glued to his base. Next will be to prime, and brown line. Have to true up his lance before the priming though ! He is part of a threesome group of brigands, that live in the forest ! Here are a couple of photo's before we are off to the races. Oh, I attached a third photo showing the size of this mini. after I primed and washed him. Yes, that's a US Quarter.

RBG -Dirk The Ne'r Do Well

Dirk wasn't very good at a lot of things, Especially gambling, and wenching; though he found out early that he was very good at getting Drunk, and swilling wine. Here he is trying to find his way back from another night of loosing, but he walked away with a treasure, a half jug of wine. He even managed to hold onto it as he weaved and tripped his way back to camp ! Here is Dirk The Ne'r Do Well. Oh, comments and/or critiques are always welcomed, and greatly appreciated !

Magda from Afar / Red Box Games

Started Magda at ReaperCon and finished her the other evening after my son went to sleep. I'm thankful I got two of her as part of his Kickstarter because this piece overall lends itself to lots of different ideas and versatility. I made the flat metal surface of her ring an actual jewel. There's a line on the right side of her cheek which I think is an accidental nip from when I was tossing highlights on the hair; it's hard to see with the naked eye so I'm not going to fuss with it.
  9. I have gotten rather hooked on Tre Manor's sculpts. I was given "Dirk the Ne'r Do Well", and I have been planning on painting him. Well, He has been washed, primed, and has 16 coats of paint on him so far. The two colors are not the easy ones, but I love how they clash, I will be tossing some red in there also to make a good rumble. I wasn't planning on making a WIP, but then I thought, Jay, you're using Orange and robinh will be delighted. So...I'll do the WIP. Here are three photos of Hapless Dirk.

    Bloody Garm - RBG0304

Much to my amazement, and Happiness, I discovered I had one last RGB Barbarian to paint this morning. Since I decided that this Birthday I would do only what I wanted to do; I had decided that I was going to paint all day. At the Bottom of the to do box was Bloody Garm !!!!!!!!!!!! So I have spent the day painting Bloody Garm. I took all the information that I had over the last eleven (kathud) miniatures, and applied them to Garm. I even brushed color on the static grass ! Highlighted and washed back words. Tried every trick I could remember... Has been a blast. So the LAST of my Tre Manor Barbarians is painted and based. As always, C&C are desired and respected.
  11. Here's an adventuring party I crafted using some Red Box Miniatures. I'm really pleased with this lot, especially Ullr the Red and Fritjof the Fierce (although those won't be the names of these heroes)

    RBG0306 - Hakar The Horrible

Hakar The Horrible has been a hoot to paint. Since it is part of a set I have kept to a theme in painting these Barbarians. I have modified colors to just have fun painting them. I've tried to make each one an individual. Hakar I've made more Nordic, and used Green and Rocks in his basing. Your comments and Criticism are welcome and sought after as usual. I also include a group photo with the Horde so you get an idea how he fits in. This has been quite the learning experience, and these one inch mini's are quite the challenge. Yes, he has blue eyes..way in there ! Here is Hakar The Horrible. I have photographed him with Svaltulf, and the rest of the Helsvakt Horde.
  13. This is the second to last Red Box Mini I have left. I really had no intention of going on a Barbarian Spree; but that appears to be what has happened. I have really gotten into this series, and I might as well finish, since I am enjoying them so much. So here is Hakar The Horrible with his axe. I've primed him, and given him a strong wash in brown liner to aid me in shadows, and building up flesh tones, and color. Think it is time to go for a green kilt apron! I've done blue and red already on Svartulf, The Craven, and the Barbarian Horde.

    RBG0301 - Helsvakt Horde

This has been a labor of love and angst. I in a moment of incredible stupidity decided to do ALL the Helsvakt Horde at one time. Not realizing how much work it was going to be, and how much I would need to learn to complete this project. They became quite the learning experience for me. Next time I jump in the pool, I will check for sharks, and how deep it is. Excellent project, fantastic sculpts, lots of surprises, and a lot of potential to learn a lot about minatures. I recommend these to anyone up for a real challenge. As always, comments, and critiques are welcome, and I would love hearing back from you as to what you think. So here is my interpretation of the Helsvakt Horde: (It'll be in two parts, since I can't up load all the photos at one time). I replaced one photo since I discovered I could get a group shot with my camera and crop it down. Here is part one:
  15. Its been a while since I posted a new WIP. Has been a bit busy around here, and putting these miniatures together has been a bit of a challenge. Sometimes you just have to grow your skills, and that is what this required. There are six members of the horde, and I haven't decided color scheme's yet, though I am leaning towards what I did with Svartulf The Savage. Though I may make the armor black also on this. Anyway, this is going to take some time to do, so this won't be a week in turn around to completion - that is for sure ! Here is a photo of the horde after I covered them with brown liner to see what I had to play with: (I primed them already).
  16. First off, the title is a result of currently rewatching Chuck, one of my favorite TV shows. What this is, is a work in progress of the projects I have planned for the next two months. Let's just say, I think I am insane. I have 5 for ReaperCon, 2 commissions for friends, and if I have time 2 for me. So without further ado, let me introduce my victims. First up the lovely Tinley. This beauty has been slightly modified and will be my entry in the open category for ReaperCon. I am pretty happy with her as this is the first time I have done any modifications. Next up are two ladies for the painters category. Dark Sword's Steam Punk Babe will be painted up as a Sci Fi Babe, using the stock photo for the Star Wars the Old Republic female smuggler as inspiration. Representing Reaper, we have Betty the Space Heroine and her little friend. If it looks like I have the time, my last entry will be a diorama staring the Queen of High Elves and Praying Paladin in a castle room. The commissions are for two friends from my gaming group. They are a web exclusive Space Marine from GW and Nicodem from Malifaux. Luckily the guys do not have a deadline and told me just to take my time. Lastly we have Rhaine from Reaper, who will serve as my next PC, and Magda, who I have wanted to start since I got her. But you did not come here to read text, so is the line-up all prepped and primed. The paladin has not been primed as I have been having issues with attaching his arm.

    RBG: Hjordisa Ymirsdottir

Ok, I was super Happy I got my order from Red Box Games so I could possible get it painted up for RCon. Then in my haste to get started with this figure I tried to clip off the tab. I say 'tried' because I accidentily clipped the front of her dress. (Sorry Tre`) So I then tried to use some ?grey stuff? to fix my mistake. Here is the result.

Svartulf The Savage - Red Box Games

I hadn't planned on finishing this Miniature today. I just couldn't put it down ! That's an endorsement of a great sculpt. Svartulf came alive in my hands in a sense. Once I started I just kept on wanting to uncover what the sculpt was about, this morning I realized I was done, and started the basing. I placed him inside a circular coffee filter when I started gluing components on the base. When it came to the black filter material, I was able to pour it on, push it down, and move it as needed using the paper filter. When done I used a "Proxa brush to remove excess, and then dump the excess back into a zip lock bag for later use. This is a fun sculpt ! Thanks Tre ! Comments and Criticism is desired and welcomed. Here is the Based Svartulf the Savage.
  19. After painting the Craven from Red Box Games I thought I would have had my fill of them. I saw Svartulf (Black Wolf) and went nuts. Yeap, I decided I had to have another Trebeard fix. You called that one correctly ub3r_n3rd (oh great enabler)...LOL. I also discovered that my camera can take a photo under nine (9) inches from the mini. I should have been using it all along. I will be posting few photos on this WIP, photography has been cutting into my paint time. Here is the primed Svartulf The Savage. (I think I saw him on a Motorcycle this morning),

Red Box Games - The Craven

If you want a Joy Ride, do this Trio of Mini's !!!!!!!! I started these with a bit of nervousness, I had never done a RBG miniature before, I wish I knew what a treat it would be. So Much Detail ! I have switched to another camera and it has improved the quality of my photos. They are small in size, so I will post several photos of each miniature. I am using static grass, and material from a water filter in my basing. Comments and Critique's are always welcome, and desired. Here is my take on The Craven:

The Craven - Red Box Games

After all the events of last week I decided that I needed a real challenge. I have had the RBG Kickstarter pieces sitting in my "To Be Painted" box for some time, and I said I have never painted one of Tre Manor's pieces before. I went for The Craven since they look like quite the challenge, and fun. So.. Cleaned up, washed, mounted on bases, and Primed...(I really needed to feel primer under my brush again after the crusader Knight !!! So here is The Craven awaiting the first touch of color...(Think Pinks are out) !!! (ROFL).

Dirk the Damned (Red Box Games)

I fell in love with this guy, Tre Manor's Dirk the Damned, immediately upon seeing the sculpt. His swagger is undeniable. Again, was happy with the rope on him. Also his clay jug, which hopefully looks clay. I'unno. This guy was in the start of my first batch of flesh-tones on a person-person. I really liked the results of mixing my own. Don't think I'll want to go back. Thanks for looking. Comments and suggestions and so on welcome.

Derek the Dim (Red Box Games)

Next up another half-orc, and purposefully so this time. Derek the Dim, from Tre Manor's Red Box Games. He was an accidental acquisition, sent by mistake. Tre was kind enough to let me keep him. He wasn't on my radar at all during the Kickstarter, but I fell in love a little, honestly, when I saw him in person. More of my home-brewed orc-ish skin tone on this, though I left him unwashed (heh). Only real thing with which I managed to tickle myself on this one was the rope (him and on Dirk, soon to be posted, both). Don't think it shows in the crappy pictures well, but it actually turned out great on these guys. Thanks for looking. Feel free to comment and critique and what's it alls it.

Ullr the Red (Red Box Games)

Ullr the Red, sculpted by Tre Manor. Red Box Games. Njorn faction, if I'm not misremembering. One of my favorite minis pretty much evar. Had a ton of fun with him, was really happy how he turned out. Thanks for looking. Suggestions and so on welcome.

    Hjordisa Ymirsdottir, Red Box Games

Hjordisa Ymirsdottir from Red Box Games. One more Tre Manor sculpt. I struggled to get a good photo as the figure is quite small. I'm really satisfied with the paintjob.
