We needed more dragons for our dnd campaign, so we painted some cheap dragon toys from the dollar store! 😄 I painted the red and the green one and my sister painted the blue one. Which one do you like best? Thanks for looking!

Another older piece from me. Not much to say about this one...I had a blast painting him. I wanted to make him a little bit darker than most of the other Ashardalon models I've seen. If you have any thoughts or critiques, I'd love to hear them.

I saw the Rocky miniatures, and with how cute they are I could not resist getting one to use as a dragon to send against my players. As such, here is my take on the Flying Rocky, as a juvenile Red Dragon! Comments, criticisms and advice as ever more than welcome!

The new Kickstarter got me motivated to dig up some old bones. I realized after all these years I have never painted a dragon, so I got after it. Rather happy with how this came out.

The unpainted Pathfinder Red Dragon from WizKids. Thought I would take more time on scales to paint individually, but ended up getting larger brushes and doing some wet and then dry brushing. Wings started out as a purple, but did not like and ended up going over them with Walnut Brown. Then tried to pull in some more of the purple around mouth and in base. Used the Greenstuff rollers for the first time on Sculpty to create some broken title look for the base. They work well on Sculpty and it breaks nicely to create broken stone look. Comments and Suggestions welcome.

The Red Dragon from Wrath of Ashardalon Dungeons and Dragons board game. I thought I would practice doing a red dragon before I tackle T'Ruakzul or whatever his name is anyway here are some pics.

Finished the fire dragon, painted using a red and gold theme. Used lots of metallic paints mixed in with matte paint, especially on its torso. Hope I got the right effect. Tell me what you guys think, would appreciate it. P.S.: I'm a bad photographer so don't mind the shadows and the bad lighting in the pics... If need be i'll take another batch of photos.

Started painted minis over the course of the last year for DnD Rise of Tiamat. Not an artist but I’ve enjoyed it.... Blightfang (green) was first, then Cinder (red), and last was Narthrax (blue).

I started on it 2,5 years ago, and first finished it now. Turns out having a child takes up a LOT of your free time.. Who would have guessed? It is the Bones version from the first Kickstarter. I had to have it when I saw it, as I think it is the most amazing dragon sculpt I've seen! Comments and critique very welcome!

Hey everyone. I painted this about 3 or 4 months ago, and just finished the basing, so I though I'd share. Missus MKCS bought this for me a few years ago. It had been sitting sealed in the box for quite some time, just staring at me, taunting me. Originally I thought I'd leave it alone as a collector item, but I grew tired looking at the box... Anyway, here it is. I hope you like it. Excuse my booger-hooks in the last picture. I was trying to get a picture of it's belly.

This has been sitting on the self of shame for a while. Decided to pull it down and use it to test a color scheme that I want to use for a different model. Looking or feedback. I wanted a somewhat traditional look, but switched up some tans where I normally see whites or blacks.

I guess this qualifies for presentation? Just some cheap prepainted dragon toys on 50mm x 100mm pill bases. Lava base for the Red Dragon ( MojoFun 387214 ) and a ruins base with checker tiles for the Steel Dragon ( MojoFun 387215 ). EDIT: ARGH! Title is supposed to be PREPAINTED, not repainted. The figure's paintjobs are the sweatshop originals.

Following in Buglips footsteps, I will attempt to get this center piece of my collection done in a single week. Starting on my 41st birthday (Friday), and continuing until it is done. I will devote some of my time to family and some time earning money. This will include a few hours each day working from home (7 days a week), caring for children and a visit from my father-in-law. Advantages: I will be using at least one large brush, and not am painting the adventures. The people are not .why I bought this set, I have plenty of adventures painted and don't need more, besides my Elder Spawn has already painted the sorceress. I will also be attending a local monthly paint day. (4 hrs+ of undisturbed painting) Honestly the advice and help I get from this group is most useful towards the end of painting, but last week was nuts. Nathavarr is going to be RED as the largest dragon in my collection I want him to be the largest D&D color. Even though he is so large he is unlikely to ever see the gaming table. After looking at many pictures of red dragons, what makes the best images are the lighting, and the complementary colors, of belly scales and wing membranes. Not much I can do with the lighting, as I won't be rebasing him onto a lava flow, using LEDs or sculpting an active breath weapon. all red is dull. I am going to try red fading to orange wing membranes and a off white / yellowed belly. - or red to orange/yellow on the belly scales as well. The terrain on the other hand will get used as often as I can. So it needs to look good and have a strong sealer coat,

I have trouble with bigger "miniatures". Maybe its impatience, or that fact that I can't hold them very well to get good details. Anyway, this guy came out ok.

Originally I decided not to get this set with Bones2, At the time I was living in a cramped apartment and had no display areas and little storage space. I did buy most of the other dragons in Bones2, enough for a full set of chromatics. Then I moved to a bigger house with lots of room to display miniatures and scenes. We finished moving in only a few weeks after Bones2 arrived. So I found this set on Ebay instead. 65$ with free shipping. With the contest running hot for painting Maldrakar in a week I decided that the big draw for me was the deadline. Since I passed on Maldrakar, I thought I would try the same timeframe for the biggest dragon I had, and all the terrain. I wasn't going to do the size 0 brush, or the adventuring party that came with the dragon, I have plenty of painted adventures. I could spend another 3-5 painting days on the dragon, massaging the details, and perhaps someday I will. But for now I have a playable/displayable enormous dragon and terrain.

So I couldn't decide what iconic to do next after Damiel. I tend not to be too interested in baseline wizards and fighters. Figured I'd do a dragon instead. Asked some friends and did some googling and found this purple lava dragon. Figured I'd see what I can do in regards to it. At the moment just a basecoat (plus a little ruby eye) so it's quite pastelly. It should hopefully darken right up once i get into it.

This is a fun mini so far. Based on a 60mm MDF base (from when Gale Force 9 made them). Really fun mini to put paint on, he's a bout 6 hours in at this point, but no one wants to see my dull, gray-primed miniature. The tans have several layers to go, but they will be added to. The shininess of the wings is from the blue ink that got spilled thanks to my lovely, 3-year-old assistant. I'll be dull coating them, but I'm happy with the recesses, as they will make my work that much easier. The red paint flooded the mini, initially, and you can see the stream of red behind the dragon, which will be covered. Ground is texture paint and pumice paste (I really like it), which will likely be a foresty/burnt green type of paint so to contrast with the really vibrant dragon. A Pathfinder Red Dragon I "speedpainted" sometime in mid-to-late 2014. My wife and I took Wappel's Shaded Basecoating class at Reapercon last year and I've been trying to familiarize myself with the style since I am somewhat impatient and don't like spending 20 or 30 hours on a single mini. This was one of the pieces I applied the technique to. It took me about three and a half hours, two of which involved repeatedly trying to make his stomach not look like complete and utter crap. The premise is a pretty simple one--Wappel advises starting dark and working light, but the rationale is that the surface is dark by default and the light is applied to the surface. With this guy, the light is coming from inside him, so start light and work dark. I started with the most hideous fluorescent yellow basecoat ever. Seriously, it was awful. I could barely tell what was painted and what wasn't. After that, it was just successive layers of darker and darker paint. I did a lot of wet-blending on this guy, and when that stuff dried, a lot of drybrushing--not that you can necessarily tell--it was one of my first real attempts at wet-blending and the demarcation between colors is still pretty obvious in places. I had three somewhat contrasting methods to my madness--first, joints should be lighter, and solid things cooler. This usually meant the edges of scales should be dark and the bits between them light. Second, bits further away from the "core" of the dragon should be hotter and more fluid, so the hands and tail and frill ended up light. Third, the places where he'd need a lot of structural strength, like his torso and the arm-bits in his wings, should in general be darker and cooler in implied temperature. Some of this runs a bit counter to how Wappel approaches it, and it contradicts its own logic in places. I like how it turned out anyway--at least when I don't have my glasses on! The lava effect on the base is kind of pathetic, though, I have to say. (Side note: in the interests of disclosure, I didn't notice initially that one of the lights for our lightbox fell off when I took the picture, so I did a bunch of brightness/contrast/saturation fugging with these photos to make them look like the real thing does. They are reasonably close now! But yes, there was some postprocessing.)

Ok, I know the photos are iffy, but I have to get it off to its new home. I painted this for a charity auction for my friend's handbell group. The base is a combination of sculpted elements and hirst arts columns. I followed the big ol pile of treasure tutorial in the craft section as well. I've seen it done in orange, red, and blue. I decided to try it in green. I'm fairly pleased with him. :-) I would have done pictures in a light box, but it was late and he's going to work tomorrow to sit on my desk. :-) He's a bones mini. I tried priming it with krylon dual, bug it was a bit tacky. I dusted it with Armory primer and it was fine. Working with something so light made manipulating it for painting angles easy, but it was a bit too easy to accidentally flex the wings when I bumped it.

Hi all! this is my end of the year "here be dragons" diorama contest entry, fresh off the paint table this morning. this mini was salvaged from a three year stay at the shelf of shame and was begging to be worked on. the contest was a perfect excuse to do just that. originally i had been over ambitious with the level of detail work i wanted to do, and a thousand scales later and it hit the shelf. to get it how i had envisioned it (each scale as a gem) was just too much work and at the time my skill with that technique was much worse. over time the age of the PJ showed. i briefly considered stripping it and starting over but couln't get over the mental hurdle. the contest was an ideal excuse to finish it fast and call it "done" in whatever state it was in when time was up. better to have another completed than back in the box. the story: only her appointed elderly handmaiden had offered her council as she prepared for the dragon tithe. As the old woman hemmed her fine silken dress she whispered, "wear no perfume today my lady, and stretch in the cart. the beast will toy with you, princess, as a cat plays with a mouse. when you run, do not run home, for even if you did traverse the plain none here would dare aide you or offer you sanctuary. no, child, you must run to the ruins of the old city. there the stench of our ancestors will cover your scent. only then will you have a chance. even so, the dragon is crafty and......." the old woman cleared her throat and wiped an eye. how many times had she hemmed this dress, the girl wondered. how many seasons, how many "princesses?" the old woman continued," remember your childhood games, dear. hide and seek in the woods. if you should escape, do not return here, for the dragon will surely have his flesh. now go, sweet child, the magistrate is waiting." and an extra pic of the "princess" not included in the contest posting. she is removable and has her own matching base. this was done so that the models are useable as gaming miniatures as well as for a diorama. she makes for a total of 60 minis completed in 2013. comments/questions always appreciated!

Here's my extended entry for the Year of Dragons contest. My first full-sized dragon! Pretty pleased with how easy Bones made doing such a big mini, though I'm wishing (as always) that I'd taken more time with the mold lines. Pics are a little washed out in places, but I think they mostly turned out okay. And look! He's made a little friend!

Hello there! This was heavy, and took a long time, and some different attempts at the red scheme. I can't remember how many times I stripped it. I don't like it when the red highlights into orange too much. Buglips' "Kaladrax in a week" inspired me to keep at it. There are plenty of mistakes here but it is time to move on. Ashlan Fellthrush was in the box, so I guess he was included as a snack. He is actually a great Sandra Garrity miniature even if he looks a bit light a deer frozen in the headlights here. I think he is thinking "This seemed like a good idea ten minutes ago." My NMM sucks. There I said it. The base is was a five dollar wood clock base from the craft store. Cheers, Carnacki
