Lead singer of The Cranberries passed away suddenly on Monday, January 15. Their music was part of what shaped my teen years. This makes me really sad. http://www.limerickleader.ie/news/home/291748/breaking-shock-at-sudden-death-of-limerick-s-dolores-o-riordan.html

Our eldest cat left us last night. He had been a little wobbly of late, and we knew it was time to make that heart wrenching decision. Yesterday he could not get up in the morning, and he pretty much refused to eat or drink all day, and we had planned to call the vet today. Coco was a stray we got as a kitten from a local no-kill shelter. He was the friendliest of several that they had, practically climbing the cage and begging to be petted and loved. He was always the one wanting attention, coming up and rubbing on my hand if I didn't lean over and pet him. He was also a jumper, and loved to climb. When he was only a year old he broke a leg. I had been wondering why my antique wall clock always seemed to end up askew, and one day we figured it out. Coco would come racing down the hall of our tiny apartment, run across the back of the sofa, jump on a chair, jump on the tv, jump up on top of the bookshelf, run across the top of the valance over the sliding glass doors, jump to the top of the wall clock, and then hit the floor and run back down the hall. We actually witnessed him getting as far as the top of the bookshelf one afternoon. We figured the broken leg meant he'd missed a jump somewhere in the circuit. At the vet's office he made a go at the top of the exam room cabinets, with his leg broken. We had difficulties with him, too, especially as he got older and forgot where his litter pan was, but I prefer to remember him like this.

Evidently Jerry Pournelle passed away two days ago at home. I quite enjoyed reading his books when I was younger. I may have to go and break a few favorites out of storage.

Went to sleep sadder than when I went to bed. Jerry Lewis Jerry Lewis (born Joseph or Jerome Levitch, depending on the source; March 16, 1926 – August 20, 2017) was an American actor, comedian, singer, film producer, film director, screenwriter, and humanitarian. He was known for his slapstick humor in film, television, stage and radio. He and Dean Martin were partners as the hit popular comedy duo of Martin and Lewis. Following that success, he was a solo star in motion pictures, nightclubs, television shows, concerts, album recordings, and musicals.
