Here is the Arcane Circle, Reaper Bones #77988. I used white ink with sorcerous mist and glacial mist on the runes and the carved inner circle. I don't think it's a good idea to cast a spell when there are cracks in the circle, though.

I was experimenting with different tones of grey with airbrush zenithals, and oil washes, to try and get the skin looking stone giant-y, yet subtly different and more 'living' than rock. The green gem necklac was a bit of a throwaway idea and I was pleasantly surprised at how well it worked. . . .

Chief of my Hill Giant Tribe. I dipped his hand in hot water to form the fingers around the added rock. The strange off-centre position on his base is so he fits into his tribe better...

Dire Wolves are the tradition pets for AD&D Hill Giants, so I bought this fine fellow to replace the smilodon that came with my Hill Giant Hunter. I always use reference pictures when painting real creatures, and this looks a bit like a real black wolf, so I'm quite happy. There are a lot more colours and steps in this chaps fur than on any of the accompanying giants, though I don't know if it shows. The joy of Bonesium means that I could easily cut off his base and glue him directly to this piece of actual granite. I recommend doing this before ANY paint is applied to either surface, to get the best bond. Else you often pull the paint off the rock and have to re-glue it, in my experience.

Nothing special, but I stood him on a rock so he overlooks the rest of the tribe...

Two more members of my hill giant tribe, obviously the one on the left is the original. The one on the right has a totally seamless hair piece (!) and obviously a modified club based on one stolen from another giant. He also has a slightly more upright stance which required an extension of his furs and was probably more trouble than the effect is worth, to be honest.

Finished this a few days ago. One thing I have to say. I've looked at a lot of people's online before doing mine. And not to be rude but I don't like any of theirs. Nobody seemed to try and do a theme to the rocks that location wise made more sense for the fossilized dinosaur on its back. Lots of people made gems and all kinds of other things. You wouldn't find those things around fossil remains. So this was my attempt to have something more surreal and actually include the fossils better and since I collect museum quality fossils apart from painting minis. I've seen enough to try my hand at what it would look like more on an excavation site. :)

The Light and The Dark I can't tell you how much I love this band! they've got a week left in this amazing kickstarter, and you should totally go check it out! ***** From the kickstarter page: About It’s been over four years since we’ve released an album. That’s about to change. The Light is coming 3/20/20. Here’s the plan: We are going back into the studio with the producer of Carry The Fire, Alex Wong, to record two sister albums that will reflect the dual sides of Delta Rae: The Light and The Dark. The Light will be hopeful, soulful, and sun-kissed and released in Spring 2020. It will include songs like “The Wrong Ocean” and “Any Better Than This.” The Dark will be mysterious, witchy and raw and released soon after (on/before March 2021). We will go on an expansive tour with each record, crafting live experiences beyond just music, to bring these worlds to life for you. But we need your help. For the past seven years we have been signed to record labels that have helped fund our albums, music videos, photography, and artwork. But as of last month, that has changed. We are incredibly excited to announce that we are independent once again. And we are humbly asking you to help us make our most ambitious project come to life. We made our first album, Carry The Fire, independently with the help of amazing fans on Kickstarter. Together, we learned just what it takes to make an album. So, here’s where your money will go: If we raise $30,000, we make The Light $10,000 Production $3,000 Auxiliary Musicians (Strings, Horns, etc.) $10,000 Mixing $2,000 Mastering $5,000 Physical Production (CD + Art) If we raise $60,000, we make The Light and The Dark And any additional money will mean we can make *MUSIC VIDEOS* and help spread the word about these two albums. And this is just the beginning. Moving forward — for the first time in a long time — we will fully control and own the music we release. We can make and share live albums, singles, and protest songs whenever we want. This means more mystical music videos and wildly ambitious creative projects. You will be helping to launch all of this. We know we already owe you all so much. And it means the world to us that you have helped us live this dream and make this art for the last 10 years. We appreciate you all more than you know and don’t ask lightly for your hard-earned money and help. But we also know you have made us a part of your lives and built friendships and community around Delta Rae that transcend anything we could do alone. You are a part of our story — the most important part. So let’s have a blast doing this together. Get a big group of friends and host a house party. Pick a song you want to hear us sing. Get psyched for some one-of-a-kind merch. Find the tier that sounds most fun to you. Help spread this campaign so we can make more “Bottom of the River“ and “Dance in The Graveyards”-style epic music videos. Thank you for being a part of this journey, your support and loyalty will help us make this next chapter real. We promise to work harder than ever to build a world of goodness, magic, and feeling through our music. Because you can’t have the light without the dark. And we still carry the fire. Love always. Delta Rae

Melody (aka Mel) the Necromancer is complete! She is clearly a Slytherin. Adventures: shading green with purple (thanks CMPA), NMM scythe, hiding a bad foot with paint, heck of a tattoo, granite, and accidentally painting a familiar face. Mel will be used in my D&D campaign as a potential romance interest to the Necrobard in an attempt to sway him towards evil. Some photos are zoomed on face, scythe, and the rock. WIP:

Quick (hopefully) question on using cork as a basing material. I'm currently working on making a few rock bases using cork for my rock. The question I have is that on one of the bases, I noticed that I had a particularly large amount of overhang with the cork (i.e. the cork cuts in quite bit as it goes from high to low, leaving a nice gap between the top of the cork to the base). So that said, how sturdy is the cork? Will it still support the mini? One side of the mini will be plenty supported and the mini itself is plastic, so shouldn't be too heavy, but of course I am hoping to avoid having the base fall apart in the near future. On a related note, is there anything you can do to reinforce the cork? (and yes, unfortunately I have already superglued it to the base). There's room to get some green stuff in there, but that will also likely break the "look" of the rock if you know what mean. Anyway, any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

This is the 2nd figure that I finished coming out of my hiatus. My goal with her was to do extreme on source lighting, imagining an adventurer going into a totally dark room with a flashlight shining on her. As a weeping angel, I thought it would be neat to make her shielding herself from the light, but awake on the side where it is dark. The photos sortof capture her red eye. Not canon with Dr. Who, but I thought it was a liberty worth taking. I also tried to make the statue look like she's made out of marble, but honestly, I don't know if she's light or dark marble due to the lighting! Which considering how bright a dark but reflective surface can be, is okay with me. Mostly, the figure was a fun little experiment.

It's simple math, really. Ranged Attack + Improvised Weapons = Hill Giant. He has a bag of fun, yet likely horrible stuff: ...and he's taken care not to trample any of the local flora, at least not yet:

So, I recently made some purchases on Reapermini.com - and spent enough to get a Halloween Goulie bag - and inside, I got a rock, so I thought about how I could pay Reaper back for the 'trick' that was given to me, and this is what I came up with. Charlie Brown, on "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown", said the famous phrase "I got a rock" so I went with it and got this:

I was informed a few moments ago, by a coworker, that the headphone jack on my computer must be malfunctioning, because everybody in our otherwise quiet office had been subjected to about an hour of Glenn Hughes singing his guts out on the little-known-yet-fantastic 1985 concept album Phenomena. (Whilst I rocked on, ignorant of the fact, earbuds in place.) Just to sweeten the pot, it's a dark album with lyrics pertaining to terror, Hell, endless night, creatures coming out of the dark, and Old Scratch himself makes a couple of appearances. I am unsure whether to celebrate this little gift I have given my office mates, or hide in embarrassment. That said, in my heart, I understand that their lives have been made at least minutely better, by having dwelt for a few fleeting moments in Greatness. Anybody else embarrass themselves totally in recent days?

My take on the Earth elemental. I went with a variety of rocks jumbled together over being one color =)

Finally got some painting done this weekend and finished up this fellow. I was initially going to go with something a bit more human looking, where he was going to have Mediterranean skin tones, so I started off with dusky skin. About partway through, I decided to go with a more rocky looking appearance, so I shaded with some agrax earthshade. Since I was making him look more like rock and soil, I thought grass for body hair might be an interesting choice. It doesn't look so great here, but the effect's a bit better in person. The rocky protrusions were based with walnut brown, then shaded up with grey rock and finally to rainy gray as the highlight, done with successive drybrushes. The metals were all done with vallejo model colors, with some of the new technicals from Games Workshop. The blue on the arm shield is nihilakh oxide. Took a bit to get it down to an effect that was noticeable, but not too strong. Fun guy to get painted up. My players have already had their fun with him once, and I expect to find more uses as time goes on.

A few weeks ago, I posted the sculpt of this guy. Now he has paint. The players managed to bypass the dungeon where he was lurking, so I guess he'll have to wait until I find another time to use a betentacled monocular stalagmite.

This is a rock tangler or rock stropper creature that the adventure group can encounter in the wilderness. It is very dangerous because it has (6 attack dice = 1 for each tentacle...hits on (4-5-6 of 1D6) and does 2HP damage with each hit...On the left is what it looks like before it is encountered (a pile of rocks)...each table top game board has (6) such rock pile formations on it...any one of them could be the creature...or none may be the creature...but these rock piles have to be searched to see if there is any money pouch or treasure bag hidden in them...This is an old metal miniature piece and a great deal of fun to play with.
