This is the second miniature I've ever painted, and the first with Reaper paints. I figured that a brush holder would come in handy for the all the Bones V painting in my future! The only Reaper paints I own are the Bones V paints (Learn to Paint kit and the two collections), plus two bottles of Reaper MSP 9038 Rainy Gray. Overall I'm really pleased with the way this first attempt worked out! I primed everything with 9038 Rainy Gray, then put on the base coats. The wings and ears gave me the most trouble as I had generously overpainted with 9410 Dragon Green, and was attempting a wet blend with 09468 Brilliant Red and 09218 Lava Orange. They required seven or eight coats before I got solid coverage over the green. Once everything was painted and cleaned up, I did a dry brush highlight pass, and then sealed it with two coats of Rust-oleum Crystal Clear Enamel and one coat of Testors Dullcote. I waited 24 hours between each coat to give it plenty of time to dry. I also masked off the gold pile prior to the Dullcote to make sure it would stay shiny. Some things that could have been better: The eyes should have been a different color to make them pop, instead of disappearing in the face. Additionally the right eye is quite muddy and the pupil gets lost amidst all the black veins. I was getting tired of working on Rocky at this point and wanted to get it finished. Ideally the eye would have been repainted. The left eye is better, but still gets lost in all the green. I forgot that my wash darkens the mini, and didn't paint in brighter colors to compensate, which means overall it's quite muted and dark.

I saw the Rocky miniatures, and with how cute they are I could not resist getting one to use as a dragon to send against my players. As such, here is my take on the Flying Rocky, as a juvenile Red Dragon! Comments, criticisms and advice as ever more than welcome!

I painted up the Annoyed Rocky as Spyro the Dragon because when I got it that is what it screamed at me to do. I even took some time to do a little basing.

Hey all, I don't normally post pictures up of what I've painted but this was a special case and I mentioned it in the Randomness thread. Young lady down the street (2nd grade?) is quite the character and takes my razzing her in stride. We had a long discussion about why she was eating bean bags and her denial of that, for example. Anyway, she managed to talk her parents into buying a very large unicorn lawn ornament for Christmas. I don't see how a unicorn is Christmassy, but she managed it, so I felt that deserved a bit of a reward and I should paint her a unicorn that didn't have to go into storage after the holidays. Two bits of background. This isn't the first time I've gifted someone decades younger than me some painted mini figures. The first set was to my two nieces and nephew. We were visiting them for Christmas a long while ago, and I took them all to a local hobby store. The middle niece asked her father for one of the Bones dragons, $4.95 retail I believe, and he wouldn't get it for her because she'd have to paint it. Oh ho ho ho! It was one from the KS's, so I knew I had it. Painted it up after we got home, and decided that the other two would need ones as well. But for them, I did a drider and another unicorn if I remember right. Anyway, gave it to them during our summer visit and they loved them. Then, about two years ago, I found out they weren't allowed to play with them because "your uncle painted that for you". OMG. No, no, no, no, no! That was not the right thing to do! *sigh* They are all older and not into playing with action figures now. Hopefully, they'll grow into it. So I was determined to not let that happen this time, but I ran into a snag. Didn't have the unicorn. Reaper is out of stock. Panic! I've set my mind in motion and Must Have One. I find one online at a store that won't be mentioned, buy it, buy a bit more to fill in for shipping, and wait. And wait. And wait. Took two weeks for them to finally ship! And this was the first of December, but I still have time to paint 'em. And then I wait. And wait. And wait! Now I'm panicking, because it's three days before Christmas, but the package finally shows up! With only the Xwing filler toy I put in for grins. Turns out, by the time they got to my order, gee willerkers, they were out of stock! So rather than contact me, they just shipped what they had. Which I only bought to fill in the shipping tier. Oh, right, right. You should get refunded for those other two. Guess who lost a customer for life? But now I'm panicked and I need a unicorn! I decide that as large of a mountain of figures I have, I should have a unicorn in there somewhere. I find some dragons, and think, well, I might paint those up instead. I also find hippos, but I discard the idea of modding them to hippocorns. Nothing seems to pop out, and I'm digging through when I find some GW Brettonian knights. Hey! Cavalry! HORSE! I start looking through the sprues, and one of the knight head options is ... DUN DUN DUN! Unicorn! Okay. My mind starts racing on how to convert the horse to a unicorn, when my wife comes down to ask me a question. I stand up and the spinner with a ton of figures is slightly in my way, so I spin the rack to see her... and spy the rotten unicorn I tried to buy. I had one already! *insert face palm here* Well, enough exposition. This is a show off thread. Three days of frantic painting, and the below is the result. Her favorite color was dark blue, so that's what the unicorn became. Figured his friends needed to be the two dragons. Rocky I envisioned as a yellow dragon, and the red hatchling... stayed red. Quick paint jobs all around. The blotchy blue doesn't really look that way when held, so I'm not sure what's going on there. Anyway, shut up, show pictures

Finally finished something for myself - woohoo! One of the set of Rocky baby dragons from Bones IV. Went with a red scheme on this one. Not going to win any awards with all the mold lines I missed! Was supposed to be a quick speed paint, and yeah, that didn't happen. Anyway, though he turned out pretty good, although the pictures don't show the highlights on the red. Tried three different set-ups and still looks flat here. Ah well.

A craft store near me was going out of business, and I found the rock molding kit from Scene O Rama for $1. There was enough plaster to make 2 molds of each rock. I painted them as instructed with the provided paints, glued them to balsa squares and rectangles, added some dirt and the talus. Some bushes added for color and interest. I wouldn’t use balsa wood for this again. The washes and thinned down glues caused the balsa to curl. I figured id use them as difficult terrain indicators in our D&D games. I’m thinking about running the old timey Isle of Dread adventure for my group, maybe these will come in handy.

Let's see how long it takes Mad Jack to take this topic into Beekeepers! http://deadline.com/2015/04/rocky-horror-picture-show-remake-fox-gail-berman-kenny-ortega-1201407925/ So Fox is going to make a TV remake of Rocky Horror. Why? Yes it does have a cult following, but that is mostly for the call back experience in the theatres. If you're honest about it, watching the show all by it's lonesome is a mediocre experience. Especially if you watch it not knowing anything of the live show experience. I have no idea how they expect this thing to be any good.
