Salvete, Amici! Phew ... some time since I wrote that last time ... haha! Well then: Time to feel the might of the Roman Legion, the breast best army of ancient Europe! I planned to be abscent from painting for some time more, but it happened that I got a more or less good reason to start again. A friend of mine who I have known for quite some time now - he is one of the master minds behind some of the Gallia to Arms builds - I decided to make a little present for him. Anyway ... this guy is a great fan of the Roman legion and he even has an 28mm Roman army. He is creating his army a bit in the style of an Asterix Roman army, having bought some of the characters and using them in his force. But he still misses a force commander - and that is where I come into play. On the last Tactica wargaming event, I got a female Roman centurion from the Hot&Dangerous brand and I immediately thought what a great force commander she would make. Alea iacta est! I don't know what would be a better fit - his birthday or christmas - but I can decide that when I am as far as I want to be. But I will not only give the figure to him. Nah - I think this is a great opportunity for me to get back into painting. So I used my social skills to ask about some of his concepts and I think now I have got a good idea of what I have to do. And now it is time to MAKE A GREAT PRESENT AGAIN! Those are all the parts I have got. The lady can either use a mirror or her helmet to check her hair. Really now? I mean ... use one or the other? Nah. Not with me. She will use the mirror, but I will put the helmet in front of her and cut away her arm, so that all parts are on the base. And now for some basing! Valete!

As requested we’ve been sailing for months in pursuit of a humanoid race that would suit the requirements to Join the worldwide Football league, along with bringing greatness to our Empire. I was very lucky to be amongst the few ships which discovered an Uknown and Unexplored Island not present on our naval cartography. It was during the first explorations of this new territory that we found it’s inhabitants: they are a Fierce tribal culture, which proven to have a primordial sense of civilization since they are divided in two castes. The first ones I nicknamed “Ogres” are the dominant species on the Island, and for a very clear reason: they are Huge, Tough and very Violent. It was almost impossible even for our armoured Pretorian Guard unit to subdue them when not alone at night time. They are naturally gifted for Sport games, especially Football since they know how to pack a punch in the enemy’s face and how to take a tackle without much damage. On the other side they showed a tendency to possess a quite restricted mindset, even some degree of stupidity and confusion at times, but we’ve found a solution to that: The second caste, the “Snotlings”. We gave them this name because of their tiny dimension and wicked wits in comparison to the Ogres. Thanks to them we were able to guide the Big ones more easily, since it seems that these smaller creatures are used like slaves,guides and training dummies by them. Unexpectedly they demonstrated to possess also other more useful skills: They are faster than Ogres and due to their small stature they can easily dodge the enemies and prolong their short lifespawn on the field. Furthermore Ogres seems to love throwing them and use their natural aereodynamics aid due to the shape of their nose. We’ve captured 9 of them, but we’ll find some more just in case. Once properly trained in the ways and rules of our Sport, I’m sure they’ll crush everything on their path. There is no such enemy team that can withstand the Mightyness of our S.P.Q.R. Roma Invicta!

In the spoiler is a 200mm Bust which I will buy soon... The Centurion carries a Scutum ( rectangal shield). Here is the thing. Mostly we see the red shields with yellow thunderbolts and eagle wings. Hollywood and most books and artwork show this design. However I found this piece of info. Lest the soldiers in the confusion of battle should be separated from their comrades, every cohort had its shields painted in a manner peculiar to itself. The name of each soldier was also written on his shield, together with the number of the cohort and century to which he belonged. The boxart shows different designs also. Now, Is there anybody out there that can point me to more Historical Accurate Roman Scutum designs ( so not for the oval shields or cavalry diamond shields). For instance I would really like to know what colour and designs were used by the Spanish Legions Julius Ceasar commanded or the desgins that were used by Scipio's Legions? Or maybe Marc Anthony? I would appreciate any input about this.

Medusa is easily among the most beautiful sculpts I've ever painted. My hat is off to Sebastian Archer, he really outdid himself with this one. After I posted the first one, another client asked me to paint her up for him. I mostly followed my original color scheme, except this time I used true metallics in place of the non-metallic metals I used the first time around. I'll need to paint one up for myself sometime. She really just screams to be in a competition. I've posted her to coolmini for anyone who cares to vote. I painted up Aquarius and Virgo as statues for my Dragons Don't Share Ruins. My WIP is here: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/71651-dragons-dont-share-2/ I am still working on the overall but I was happy with how my "statues" turned out so wanted to share them in a Show Off! I can't get over how cute these two little minis are. I had no idea they were so cute. I will be buying more to paint as "normal" but I think they make excellent statues as well! Here is another Arena Rex mini I've gotten to do recently. I've had quite a few of these sent my way- at this rate, I'll need to make them their own gallery. This is Gaius Pallidus of Legio XIII:

Quite large, painted this for my Dad's birthday. He loves to collect hand painted knights, soldiers and such. So I think he will really like it. I could do more with the base, but the birthday is today and no time left. It took me about a month to paint and put together. I kind of like it the way it is, maybe it showcases the rock and the figure better if it is not so busy with other stuff. The Shield was the hardest part. I am not so great at freehand and then deciding to muck it up with blood and dirt was a really tough decision. I read in quite a few places that the Pegasus was a popular figure found in Roman art (seen in pottery, mosaics and such.) Hopefully I am not too far off the mark historically, but my dad is more into the overall look than historical accuracy. 3inches 1/24 scale - hope you enjoy
