Hello All, Here is a recent work I completed last week. 44049 Bones Black "Stone Lurker" aka "Roper." Thank you for looking.
-
Oh, look a cavern full of valuable crystals. Hm, a tight fit. I am going to take off all my armour so I can crawl in there... From the Bones 4 Darkreach expansion 44049 Stone Lurker Sculpted by Jason Wiebe Bones Black 60mm base I think tentacles are all the more horrid when they are fleshy. This would be a Roper for D&D, in case that was not obvious. A stalagmite-lookalike ambush predator that waits for the unwary to pass by, coiled tentacles at the ready to spring out and drag the victium into its hungry maw. Dungeon delvers beware.

As every space-cadet knows, life exists just about everywhere it can. Our spiral arm is just teeming with sentient species, Space Monsters, and things in between. These silicious stalagmen, the Slishans of Titan, are probably in-between. They're from Hydra's Retro Raygun series, and their grumpy expressions and rugose crusts are delightful. Meet Gak and Yurk: And their colleague, Vork. Wait! Vork's got a gun! How did it get a gun? IS it actually a gun? Does it know how to use it--and if so, will Vork be a benevolent leader? Last but certainly not least, Old Grandcestor One-Tusk. I got a Roper in one of those WotC random boxes, and then never used it for a year. So I got some Green Stuff and put lips, tusks, a tongue, and an extra pair of eyes on there. What great spacebastards they are!

As has been a theme this year, the minis I manage to paint will all count towards the resolutionary challenge. As per the resolutionary painting challenge guidelines, I will post them here, and link in my post in the challenge thread. As I was painting the statues, I had some paint left over on the palette. So I started this rocky thing to lessen the wastage: Bones KS2 Roper 77227 Stone Lurker Not to be confused with that demon-thing from the *ahem* "adult anime" Urotsukidôji. Basically, a stalagmite look-alike monster that suddenly throws its rope-like tentacles around the unwary delver that comes too close.

As much as I feel like I should be painting more Bones I things, I am still creeping a bit into my Bones II stash. Always a good idea to have some ropers around, hanging out in caves and generally threatening adventurers. Originally I was going to keep him pretty simple and just drybrush the 3 of them. But we also like to have identifiable colors in case multiple monsters are used, and I was inspired by this show-off post and this show-off post. I think my drybrushing is improving but there's still probably a lot of other things I could've done better with this guy. Anyways, comments and criticism welcome. I always like to get good ideas for the next thing I paint.

Here's this weekend's work. I started this "Stone Lurker" yesterday and finished him up earlier. When assembling it I had some issues trying to get all the tentacles to fit in a slot. While you can tell that each join is uniquely shaped, the soft detail and mold lines made it so they didn't match up that well. I broke down and checked the gallery, but then I noticed that the stone lurker was also pictured on the core set box. They aren't put together the same way so I don't feel too bad about having issues myself. What's that? Hunting adventurers is just a side job? You work in Japan full time? You don't say...

77227 Stone Lurker. (Bones II) Whatever Reaper choose to call it, it's clearly a roper. It doesn't look precisely like any of the ropers described in various D&D Monster Manuals, but it's a stony pillar with six long tentacular arms, so really, what else could it be? I've based it on a big, heavy washer and extended the base stonework with greenstuff.

Trying to keep with the idea of themed topics, here's my latest finished beasts with too many darn legs, including that bane of Muscle-Wizards everywhere, the dread Roper. I had to dig out and resculpt a bit of the eye on that one, so I hope it came out alright.

A few weeks ago, I posted the sculpt of this guy. Now he has paint. The players managed to bypass the dungeon where he was lurking, so I guess he'll have to wait until I find another time to use a betentacled monocular stalagmite.
