I am trying get the -in my opinion- less enjoyable player character-type minis out of the way, which will let me do the more fun monster minis when finishing up the core set, hopefully letting me keep up the motivation to actually get the entire set done as I have wowed to do. #51 Belle the serving wench 25mm base.

OH CURSE YOU GOBLIN! A friend gave me this for Christmas 10+ years ago, and I have always been afraid to paint it, as I had the 'I'm not good enough now' syndrome.... Then seeing Siri's Tia-not, and then Buglips' thread on this beastie, (I mean her Dark Majesty) the 5 little voices have been saying do it, paint it, Ma'al Drakkar will be here in a year... (I need to look Good, in an evil sort of way, for that big guy!) And since my air compressor died tonight, I thought maybe I could kill my Dremel tool to! Going to do prep work tonight, so won't be anything exciting, but I snapped a few pics to show the components. I don't have Sir Forscale, so I brought in his bard, Astrid the Chronicler, to show you all their sheer size... (What is this wench doing strolling around my parts!!) (Ma'al is gonna be scary!) Pics: The Vrock I am working on to show the wing span: This also to motivate me to work on it, so that I can have it ready for the end of the year.... DDS 2 is in the mail to.... Think I might be biting off more than I can get in my mouth, never mind chew... Wish me luck! Gonna need it! (If you don't get back to work, you'll need more than LUCK!) 8) George (Are you finished nattering yet slave? I need to be cleaned!) (coming your Darkness!) Now Buglips has ME doing it! Please see the main post here for rules, questions and general chatter, while using this thread to keep a list of links to your show-offs or show-off related comments in a single post: A reminder to please adhere to miniatures posting guidelines as usual. http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/84371-2019-rpchallenge-questionsannouncements/ All the information you need should be here. As usual, the new format holds a "hard mode" challenge! The Last quarter of the year 2019 because real life is a bugbear sometimes. Your challenge is: 18! Bonus Challenge: 1! Fall! Paint a mini that has fallen over (for whatever reason) (Pompeii guy works for this too!) Bonus Challenge: 2! This is Halloween! - Paint a mini using only colors that have black, orange, and purple in the name. You may also use the paints available from this year's ghoulie bag. Bonus Challenge: 5! Festive feast - Since both US And Canada have their Thanksgiving in this time bracket - paint up a mini (figure or terrain) to have some food being presented, if you can do a drinking vessel to be painting like a full glass, even better! Bonus Challenge: 4! For-lack-of-a-better-idea- December 15th is national Cat Herders' day! Paint a tabaxi, or any other mini featuring a feline. (It's a real holiday, go ahead, look it up) Hard Mode Challenge 1! Jack-o-lantern's light - Paint a mini where the only source of light would be coming from inside a jack-o-lantern. Pumpkin may be part of the mini/base or sculpted Hard Mode Challenge 2! Under Wraps- Paint a mini so that anything that any non-flesh (armor-weapons-cloth-etc) looks like it's patterned wrapping paper. This is assuming a humanoid figure. Dragons or such apply the same challenge to the whole body. As always, the game is made up and the points don't matter!

#3: Sexy lady on a grave The bared-shoulder-come-hither-look in a tight formfitting dress has to be a vampire, don't you think? Why else would she be standing on a grave looking all alluring? I painted the dress with Green Stuff World Metalcolor Cæsar Red (a metallic deep red) and Reaper Rose Gold, a metallic pink. I find these colours work very well together. Rose gold is not available at retail (yet). I won the Rose Gold on the Halloween Twitch stream lottery draw together with three other paints and some halloween-themed minis (Yay! I actually won something for once! And I did not already have the minis! Double yay!) and what better way to try it out than on a shiny, clingy, silk dress? The provided grave-base fit perfectly on a 30mm lipped base.

My photography has really been sub par for some time so I am trying out som different settings on the camera, including changing the backdrop to try to find a setting that works better than before. Focus is key, deep focus is even more key. I think I might just have cracked it. At least for now. Just some incy wincy spiders today, the pack called "spiders" from Nolzur's Marvellous Miniatures. The dark background has it's uses, but did not really work for these models. #1 #2 #3 These spiders are a little bit too similar to the real ones intermittently crawling across my walls both in size and shape, and I have had to stop myself fixing to slap them as they were lying about my desk. I made 40mm bases for them. One of the spiders came with a webbed victim-piece, which can be seen above. Super fast paint scheme, gloss black all over, dark green drybrush, then red in three shades for the red bits, then gloss varnish. The colour scheme is inspired by a real spider, the Australian (...because of course Australian!) Ambicodamus Crinitus, aka the Red and Black spider, Imaginative naming there. Luckily the real red and black is no more than a centimetre or so long and not seen as dangerous to humans. One of the models had a piece missing from one leg. I could not be bothered with complaining and requesting a new one though. Also, as is usual with the Nolzur line, the renders used to promote and illustrate the minis in webshops come across as way more detailed than the actual models. Something which I think actually is a bit disingenuous, really. Have you seen some dwarfs that were strolling through these woods? #160 Sophie the succubus is Reapers mascot of sorts, and has appeared in many versions up through the years. In this KS she has this model as the serving wench, and the Chibi one. Of the other three I have no idea about the backstory, if any. Maybe they are roleplaying characters of the Reaper staff or some such? #160: I went with the same red-purple skin I used on the Chibi version. She is a demon after all. 25mm base From the Sophie's friends subset:

#153 Elf Swordswoman of some sort. Maybe a paladin? IRL, the Cape has some nice shading going on, but it does not show up in the washed out pictures. All the minis look better when not magnified as in the pictures. 25mm bases. Not my most inspired work.

Short Wart's Cohort Mort Being a band of bony retribution soon to cross the Brandywine and come a-knocking on little round doors under the hills. Most of these skeleton minis are from the same second hand purchase where I got the zombies that were featured a few week ago. I got the incomplete undead mammoth off Ebay several years ago, and Short Wart himself is an Oathsworn Halfling Necromancer. All minis have been given 3D printed bases, most of them 25mm. There are a lot of pics beneath, although some are distictly unfocussed, as if a dark power did not wish to be documented...

Yet another of my entries in a painting league on another forum Pride and Joy A nice walk in the park for the Lovecrafts. Sorry about the pics being a bit blurry, I am still struggling with the camera. It seems it is not meant for such small items. Most of the miniatures are from a recent 2019 kickstarter by Bear's Head Miniatures, apart from the large Star Spawn that is from the game Cthulhu Wars by Petersen Games. One of the kickstarters for that game had an option for one each of the miniatures extra, and this one is from that set. I hacked off the moulded base it originally came with so I could have similar style bases for the whole family. Lots of pics and such below, go on, you know you want to click it:

So as some of you may have read, I am going to try to do a basic airbrushing tutorial on Friday night, June 24, 2016, starting at about 2100 (9pm) EST on google hangouts. The idea is to show folks the basics and beginnings of how to use an airbrush... This is the mini I chose: I started the clean up, assembly, gap filling, because folks already know how to do that stuff.... I chose it because it is large enough for people to see what is going on when it is being painted, but not so big it takes over my table, like a dragon would... I have done a Type III Demon before, so I won't have to go to crazy figuring things out, and there are some semi advanced things I can try to show as things progress.... So Thanks for looking, and hope to see you at class! George

Maledrakh's Bones 4 core set #95 Female Elf Barbarian
Maledrakh posted a topic in Show Off: Painting
The chibi smallworld minis are all based on existing normal minis in the Reaper lines. I recognized five of them from the minis I have from earlier Bones kickstarters, but not Arnise the female barbarian elf that I painted the other day. The reason being that the original was included in the Bones 4 core set. An older metal mini being redone into Bones material it seems. So I painted her in a similar scheme. The metal version is called Arnise, Elven Sergeant from the Warlord line, and represents the Sergeant of Almirithil's frenzied half-elven berserkers in the Warlord lore. Why hello there, you remind me of someone I once knew... Plonking away a the Bones 4 core set, this is number 5: I am not a number! I am a free man! The metal version of this is called Ankoa, Barbarian Hero. He has a really small head compared to most of the other minis. I expect he is not too bright. Probably not destined to bear the jeweled crown of Aquilonia upon a troubled brow. There's a new playah in town! Come get some! B4Core #5 Barbarian from the Bones 4 Core set, 2019 Reaper Miniatures Sculpted by Bobby Jackson Made in Bonesium PVC 30mm base

AUGH! The Great Pumpkin Came! This was my entry in a painting league at another miniatures forum. In reference to the longstanding Peanuts theme of Linus sitting alone in the Pumpkin Patch waiting for the Great Pumpkin to come bringing gifts, Santa Claus-style. It's a pity for him that Halloween is all about the scary...and the Great Pumpkin probably is not a very nice being. The miniatures are all by Reaper, the fences are from Mantic's Kings of War Vanguard terrain. I found the simplicity of the fences really helped to sell the story here. As one of the commenters in the LPL-post stated: "Less is more". Lots more pics, but yah gotsa clicks!

The second of the superdeformed Chibi hero minis from the Bones 4 core set that I have painted, here comes Arnise the Elf Barbarian. Kissed by fire. I have no idea if she actually is meant to be a barbarian or not. Getting that much skin smooth is not an easy task, especially not by drybrushing. ...oh damn I forgot the freckles! Same height, different scale. B4Core#118 Arnise from the Small World Heroes subset in the Bones 4 Core set, 2019 Reaper Miniatures Sculpted by Gene Van Horne (I think!) A large mini ragepainted sloppyfast in under an hour just to blow off some steam and get it off the tray it has been standing around for ages on. Well, large mini I say. Compared to most other dragons of the Bones kickstarters, this one is rather smallish. However, back in the day when heavy metal was king, this mini would be considered a large miniature of a dragon. pics below the clicks

A bit of a departure for me today. Chibi, a style formerly known as Superdeformed before Anime became popular in the western hemisphere. I am not particularily fond of Chibi; that superdeformed cutesy manga look that has insidiously permeated the pop culture of today. Sigh. What is the world coming to? Now they also have infiltrated my beloved Bones... During the Bones 4 kickstarter campaign, they offered chibi versions of some of their existing minis as free additions to the core set as social stretch goals, adding them one by one as their target numbers for facebooks shares, retweets, tagging pictures or other interactions on social medias were met. The full six chibi miniatures did end up In the Bones 4 core set. As I am sworn to do the entire Bones 4 core set, I am honour bound to paint them all eventually...gah! So...I painted the chibi Sophie for starters. Sophie the succubus is the Reaper Mascot of more than 20 years, and versions of her have beed used for promotions and to mark special occasions since way back when. She has had figures in every Bones kickstarter. In Bones 4 she had this chibi and also a normally scaled mini. I went for the classic red devil look, with the opaque but shiny black eyes that I find most fitting for devils and their ilk. Is it cheating to do the eyes in gloss black? ARRGH! A giant-headed devil woman! She must be put to the sword! B4Core#120 Sophie from the Small World Heroes subset in the Bones 4 Core set, 2019 Reaper Miniatures Sculpted by Gene Van Horne (I stand corrected by Mr Bob Ridolfi, Sculptor Extraordinaire himself :) Thank you, Bob!) I admit to getting a bit more than just the core set in the Bones 4 kickstarter....but I have decided to paint the entire core set before tackling any of the expansion sets. However, there are also a bunch of add-ons to do. Most of those are rather large... but we start with some mid-sized ones: These are the "Skeletal Monsters" add on subset. A Chimera, an Owlbear and a Manticore, plus a heap of monster bones / spawn pile scatter terrain piece. Also there is a sprue of different heads to you can convert to other monster skeletons if you like. I am keeping the sprue of monster skulls in the bitsbox for now. The wings are in a much more rigid (and presumably more brittle) material than the bodies that seem to be in the more rigid bones 3 material. Chimera: I made a 3D printed 70x50mm oval base for this one. These were hollowed out from the top so the miniatures own base fit inside, with some putty to fill them out. Owlbear: I made a 50x30mm base for this one. Manticore: This one has a 60x35 base. The bone pile scatter terrain bit. I have a bone to pick with you guys... How I painted these: Black undercoat with white ink zenithal sprayed on. After this was thoroughly dried out, I painted Citadel Skeleton Horde contrast (yes! Contrast paint! It works like a thicker ink or stain!) all over. When this was thouroughly dry, I drybrushed in varying degree with several bone-type colours, both yellowish and whiteish ending with Reaper Splintered Bone at the very tops. Details such as horns, beak, teeth, stingers and claws in various black and grey colours I mixed on my pallette. Base in Vallejo Earth followed by some tufts and my autumnal flock mix, finised with black rims. All of them done from basecoat in an evening including drying times. Skeletal Monsters add-on subset from the Bones 4 kickstarter, 2017 Reaper Miniatures Sculpted by Julie Guthrie Made in Bonesium PVC should be available from reapermini.com some time in the future

From the Bones 4 core set, this is the subset called "Classic Horror", #130 through #135. A take on some of the monsters of the 1930's Universal movies series fame, with both male and female counterparts. I based the Mummy on a 35x25mm base as his integral base was both scenic and rather wide and I did not want to cut it down. The others are based on 30mm round lipped bases. Click for more pics

I am slowly working through the Bones 4 core set. Today we come to #13, the Warrior of Chaos. I don't know what Reaper is calling this mini, if they even have a name for it yet. I imagine it would be something like "Bloodcurdle Angerpants, Anti-Paladin" or "Gruff McDuff, Evil Fighter". (Feel free to use these names, Reaper ) But it clearly is a Warrior of Chaos. This model has the look, what with horned helmet, bulky full plate, skulls, straps, furry shoulders, heavy cloth cloak and the tower shield. ...and I was going to put a picture of a chaos warrior from the GW webstore here for comparion, but they obviously did not want me to, so that did not happen. No matter. Did I say Warrior of Chaos? This is clearly a Champion of Chaos, what with such a massive rock to put their foot upon! Feet, even! I had to base it on a 40mm base. Champion sized at that. I have the higher ground! You cannot win! Also, I have a full set of Chaos Armour and all you have are tighty whiteys! B4Core #13 Champion of Chaos Reaper Miniatures, Bones 4 KS 2017 Sculpted by ??
