  1. Hi guys, we are back and worked out a huge mega-collection of more than 150 ruined pieces + stretch goals for 3d printing, which can serve for many situations in many games. It all started with some requirements: The terrain should be modular, mostly stackable, should have tons of possible combinations, should be customizable and work for different genres. Actually not such an easy task, but see for yourself and make sure to presubscribe to be notified for the early birds! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/pharaohsworkshop/a-world-in-ruins-3d-printable-ruins-stl-terrain-megapack
  2. I finally finished my Dragons Don't Share! I have another that I purchased to paint sometime next year! For this one, I was inspired by the ruins of Pompeii. I went with the yellowish stones and added frescoes and statues. There is also a bird in a nest, a lizard, butterfly, and bunny in amongst the ruins. I used a lizard photo to design my dragon instead of going with a "usual" color. I thought he fit in with the ruins. You can see the work in progress here: C&C welcome! Thanks for looking! There are lots more photos on my page. The link is in my signature.
  3. This could be more exciting, but it's not. I chose this as a test piece before I tackle Dragons Don't Share II. Nice piece, it came together in a jiffy. I'm trying to copy the local limestone, and didn't quite get there with this, but it's a starting point.
  4. I was cleaning up behind my barn and found this half-buried in the dirt. Was just on the way to throwing it out when I just couldn't. So I washed most of the dirt off, and cut a base from scrap plywood I had, and away I go! I actually have a semi-solid plan. I want to knock this one out fast, first of all, so maybe it'll get done this year (ideally before spring or even March, but I know how things go). I want it to evoke a few things without quite indicating any of them. The Tyrell building from Blade Runner is a big one. The magitek factory from Final Fantasy VI is another. But I also want to maintain that primitive temple look--like a Mayan or Aztek pyramid--which the shape itself lends to. I also want it to appear as though it's either been abandoned or nearly so, and nature has started to retake it. So lots of pipes and vines and gears (see my initial bits pile) and maybe a surprise if I can keep motivated... Let me know what you think! Ha, also noticed my little Narshe cottage in the background--it's nearly complete as far as building. That'll be for another topic though!
  5. This is something I started working on a looong time ago. I finally made the push to get it done and get it out--probably donating it to one of the FLGSs. WIP here: https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/87566-ruined-building-terrain-pic-heavy-ish/ I wasn't trying to get too, too fancy with this. Rather I began with the intent to see how quickly I could make a good enough piece of terrain. Had I not taken a year-long hiatus from it I may have succeeded, as I think that barring drying times I have around. You can see a Bones skele or to lurking around for scale. I was having a challenging time with my camera and the lighting (room is kind of in disarray at the moment), so I have a few different exposures here. Had a lot of fun with the fiddly bits like the graffiti, wire conduit, and dead plants. In the fist and second pics you can even see one of my new backgrounds in the...background--too bad I made it for a standard mini, not a large building. Questions, comments, critiques welcome!
  6. This is just something that's been on the SoS for an embarrassing amount of time. Finally making the effort to finish it up and move on. Materials are corrugated cardboard on a base of stiff cardboard/MDF. Rebar from paperclips. Rocks, gravel, and sand, and a straw for the pipe. Spray primed with black, wet brushed with gray hobby paint. Next will be some highlights and a wash, some vegetation, and done. Reaper Bones skelie for skale! Pardon the rigged light box--lots of other house projects have my hobby room crammed with crap at the moment.
  7. This is a little sideproject from my Lost World Project WIP here: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/69308-lost-world-project-glitterwolf-paints-coldblooded-creatures-and-conquistadores/& I think it deserves it's own WIP. It will be covered in the Lost World as well, but there it will be interrupted by the other things I paint and build there. With courtesy to @malefactus , @Peithetairosand @Chris Palmer for inspiring me with their awesome terrainbuilding. It all started when I noticed my spare base from Kaladrax. Kaladrax was put on a crypt as can be seen here: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/77556-kaladrax-on-her-mausoleum-by-glitterwolf/ At first it was just an idea, putting some jungle stuff on that. But then things kinda got out of hand a bit. And some fericious foam cutting
  8. I thought I would start my own Frostgrave terrain thread, since I started on my second ruin this week, and don't see my self stopping anytime soon. And, I didn't want to keep posting links in David's excellent Frostgrave terrain thread found here, http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/65272-frostgrave-terrain/ , and detract from his efforts. For those that missed it, I already posted my first ruin here in the Frostgrave thread in the Fantasy sub-forum: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/63635-frostgrave/?p=1252554 This week, I thought I'd take things to another level and try my hand at a two-story ruin... Two improvements I wanted to try this week were to add more debris on to the base; and to mount the building on a squared base to help it feel more like an urban building. The main structure is made from cork tiles, and the extra details are made with balsa and bass wood. IMG_5605 by cnjpalmer IMG_5606 by cnjpalmer
  9. Here is the Sphinx from Bones 3. She was fun to paint with lots of little details. She has the prettiest face and since she is a little larger, there was lots of room to practice facial features. Hope my players are good at riddles! The color on the photos is a little "off" and everything appears a bit more yellow than it actually is. My batteries were dying in my camera so I was trying to hurry and didn't realize the color was slightly off. C&C welcome! Thanks for looking! Update: She is on the list to be released on March 5!
  10. So one of my November goals was to work on (or even finish) the DDS 2014 tower ruins .. If you look at the WIP thread, you'll see that it took me a LOOONG time to get this done finally.. I'm not completely satisfied with the way the treasure came out, and learned a lot from applying the sand without painting the base Bonesium first, but over all, I'm fairly happy with it...
  11. I haven't been painting as much as I would like due to some health issues. I have painted a few things and will be posting them on show off as soon as I can get them based. Most stuff I have been painting has been for my campaign based in ancient Egypt. I was getting a little burnt out and have had DDS2 sitting for about a year so I decided I wanted to work on the ruins. I knew I wanted them to fit together but I also wanted to be able to use the individual pieces separately. I made a cork "puzzle" and glued the pieces down. My painting friend suggested making several layers so it wasn't just flat and that sounded like a good idea so I made 3 layers to the "puzzle". All of the pieces fit together as you can see in the photos. Now, I want to use something to make it look like a hill when it is all pushed together. I don't want plaster because it would make it very heavy and not sure how durable that would be. Green stuff is far too expensive to cover the whole thing in. I am thinking maybe FIMO. Not sure yet. Need to make a trip to the art store. I am going to use pieces of cork and try and find a few columns that I can partially bury in the hill. My plan is to paint them up like Roman ruins. Think Pompeii. In the little niches, I am going to paint little murals. I am considering to try a mosaic pattern on some of the floor. So anyway, these are just my puzzle pieces so far.
  12. This is called TANITH's AWAKENING. A sideproject from my Lost World Project. It was born due to @knarthex's daughter Alsnia, showing a pic of a cute python with flowers on it's head. Then @Pezler the Polychromatic made up a little story in my Lost World Project. I had already seen a great Serpent Goddess statue in a thread from @Chris Palmer and after some suggestions from @malefactus and @Chaoswolf things really got out of hand. More forumites commented and suggested stuff. Anyway here it is. The Ananconda and the Python are plastic toys. The little snakes are from the GW Bastiladon. The Sugarskulls are from Greenstuffworld and a present from @Erifnogard THX! @knarthex also donated lots of flock and moss. The little bird and the smaller pots are Bones. Alsnia is Bones Sarah the Seeress 77210 The bigger pottery, treasures and vases are Resin pieces from Minimonsters and Ristul's Extraordinary Market. For the whole story and WIP's http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/73979-taniths-awakening-by-xherman1964/ http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/69308-lost-world-project-xherman1964-paints-coldblooded-creatures-and-conquistadores/ Hope you guys like it. Building was made out of foam. I used some milliput and a Greenstuffworld Aztec Motif Rolling Pin. TANITH is the living statue of the serpent goddess, Alsnia performs the ritual to summon TANITH, and she breaks free from her stone form.
  13. So whilst digging around through my 40K stuff looking for things, I found a sprue of GW's plastic ruins, and decided to assemble them and paint them up as generic terrain, hopefully to be used in our upcoming Frostgrave games.... Base coated with GW Rough Coat, a textured spray paint, sadly OOP Primed Black Dry Brushed with GW Stormvermin Fur, Codex Grey, Kommando Khaki, Fortress Grey Daubed with GW Blue, Red, Green, and Brown inks, diluted Dry brushed with GW Codex Grey, Fortress Grey, VMC Stone Grey I normally would have done a dilute Tomwise Sauce wash after the inks, but tonight whilst gabbing on the hangouts, I forgot!... Couple more coats of DullCote and they will be done... Though I may do the black wash now,,, Thoughts???? Thanks for looking!
  14. So while I still don't have any Burrows and Badgers figures completed (the Shrew-zerker just needs his base finished, so almost....) I did finish the first 4 pieces of terrain. These are part of a large set of resin cast pieces Jo sculpted for the first Burrows and Badgers Kickstarter called The Ambush the Camp terrain set. Lovely pieces. I went for a simple tabletop paint job, lots of washes and drybrushing. I expect these to see a lot of use in both B&B and hopefully Frostgrave so wanted something I could fix up if it got scuffed or marked up. I may go back and add some bits of moss or other basing once I get all my basing stuff sorted again; its in a bunch of piles from moving rooms.
  15. I painted up Aquarius and Virgo as statues for my Dragons Don't Share Ruins. My WIP is here: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/71651-dragons-dont-share-2/ I am still working on the overall but I was happy with how my "statues" turned out so wanted to share them in a Show Off! I can't get over how cute these two little minis are. I had no idea they were so cute. I will be buying more to paint as "normal" but I think they make excellent statues as well! Pictures of Virgo in first reply.
  16. Just finished a small terrain element for my Frostgrave campaign (plus I'll can use it in Broken Legions games that hopefully I'll be ready to play soon). It's scratch-built, made out of insulation foam. As simple and quick construction as is, I'm pretty pleased with the result :) More pics on my blog: gabbigames.wordpress.com
  17. Here we go... Starting off by washing everything... IN THE DISHWASHER!! My plan is to get it done in the next month or so... we'll see how that goes.
  18. I have been trying to do the set dragons don't share. I bought it on ebay for 30 dollars plus 10 dollars s&h. the ruins were easy to base coat and paint with three different shades of grey. I plan to add flocking for grass some sand and maybe more broken stones. but the painting on the ruins is done for now. the dragon went great for such a large mini. I based the dragon in a smokey garnet, then blood red / fire red for the scales. the underside of the wings gave me fits. I used fire orange, flesh wash and fire red. hope everyone likes it. as always feel free with the advice. sorry I lost some of the shading and highlights in the pics.
  19. To get a bunch of minis painted for the paint challenge, I finished 7 more pieces of terrain from Oathsworn Miniatures. Fun and easy low stress tabletop paint jobs for the win!
  20. So I finished the Bones version of Vanja. I also tried a few backdrops ( just printouts from the internet). Hope you like her. EDIT: forgot to mention this earlier, don't know if it shows well in the pics. The armor is red mixed with silver to get a metallic look, later i added more silver for the highlight parts. And with a more neutral back drop. I'm new to this...must make a lightbox soon. These were made in the garden.
  21. In addition to the full-blown Dragons Don't Share set, we also picked up a few of the extra bits of ruined walls, because who doesn't like terrain? Over the course of an absurdly epic combat session of D&D last night, in between preventing a TPK with the help of the Goddess Mishakal*, I painted up these walls. There are a few things I need to tweak, and I plan on adding some flock and talus and so forth, but I'm pretty happy with where this is right now. I've posed my modified Sir Forscale and some Gremlins to model the terrain. I used tube acrylic from Liquitex' "Basics" line. This is the first time I've used artists' acrylics, and it's a pretty interesting experience. Here's a quick color breakdown, keeping in mind that the Basics series is pretty student-grade, so I don't know to what extent some of these are just the names on the tubes, as opposed to actually the genuine pigments used. Regardless, I was pretty astonished by the vibrancy and coverage on all of these. Basecoat overall: apx. 50/50 Burnt Sienna/Primary Yellow (the rest of the table thought I was painting walls on Mars at this point, very orange) Then I took that mix and used a variety of washes with varying additions of Burnt Sienna and Primary Yellow to create some variations in the orange. Next, an overall, pretty thin wash/glaze of about 50/50 Burnt Umber/Phthalocyanine Green went over everything. A touch of the P.Green to thicken the wash back up then went over all the grassy parts and was stippled heavily into the shadows of the stonework. I then started drybrushing the original Burnt Sienna/Primary Yellow mix, stepping it up through yellow several times, onto the higher points. Finally, a really fantastic grey mixed from Dioxazine Purple and Pthalocyanine Green went onto the rubble and into patches on the stonework. Some white went into that mix to hit some highlights. At this point, I still want to put a few more highlights in on the really tippy-top bits, and the ground needs some work as I mentioned, but ultimately this was a ton of fun to play with. I'm looking forward to putting these on the table for a game! A footnote: although I haven't entirely broken myself of the habit, Pingo and like-minded individuals will be glad to know I refrained from using the back of my hand as a palette while using things with names like "Phthalocyanine." *I do mean epic, and I do mean TPK. There were minotaur, a dragon, and bear-riding walrus-men. Walrus-men, I ask you**! The enemies numbered in the dozens, and my cleric was running back and forth between unconscious party members like a madman. We prevailed, but it was a near thing. **The "goo-goo-ga-joob" jokes petered out after the first party member lost 30-odd HP in a single blow.
  22. Hi Dibbler...Here are my basic, simple and generic fantasy terrain pieces. On these, I do nothing fancy or no real detail work...We play on a 4x8 table top board that is dark forest green in color...the terrain pieces are placed as designed for the given adventure and/or encounter...everything between the pieces is considered flat green meadow type terrain with no cover & 100% clear (LOS) visibility...Pictured are; 1. Solo shot of ruined building...(I have 5 such boards with varied ruined aspects)... 2. Shot of 4 ruined buildings together to form a sort of ruins complex... 3. Shot of generic terrain pieces of varied sizes & shapes...(I have 30 such pieces and another 12 that are total foliage covered)... 4. Shot of 1 of my generic hills...(this is Fire Hill = View #1)...(I have 6 such hill pieces)... 5. Shot of (Fire Hill = View #2)... So as I said...I do detailed work on projects that deal with my home shire/town...but the rest is basic non-detail generic material and fantasy terrain pieces.
  23. This is a tabletop game play terrain piece in (15mm)...completely scratchbuilt...the piece is a (14" x 14") section built on ceiling tile.
