  1. Another leftover from RVE eventually finished! The cloak was painted during Kevin Holderny's Galaxy Painting Class, now I finally managed to finish the rest. Not too happy with the blending on the white fabric, also I've painted better eyes before. In general, however, I like how the mini came out. For the orb on his stave I tried to paint a white opal. The finished product looks more like pearl to me but that's also ok. It's white-ish, shiny and mysterious, so I didn't completely miss the mark. Enjoy, c&c very welcome!
  2. And another RVE leftover finished! I painted the crystals during RVE during Erin Hartwell's crystal painting class and then decided to use them as a background for the little warlord skeleton I had lying around on my shelf. While I'm happy with the overall composition of this piece a few things went wrong: The varnish on the crystals stayed tacky. While this is probably a user error on my part I'm not really happy with the overall performance of the translucent bones material (even when painting it) and I'll avoid it in the future (Bones USA looks very promising, though, and might actually be an alternative to pewter for me) I wanted to add interest to this little scene with some eerie water effects. I tried greenstuffworld's lime green water effect. To make it pop a bit more, I base coated the "deepest" part of the water with a mixture of white and MSP green goo. Turns out I greatly misjudged the opacity of the water effects and now I'm left with chalky spots beneath a somewhat unimpressive slime. Oh well, you live to learn! All in all I learned a lot painting this up, but now it will go to the back of my vitrine. I do like the skeleton, though. 😇 C&c very welcome, as always!
  3. Continuing to paint the various rve stuff. This time, a kilted troll.
  4. Sarah's hair was painted during RVE, Geoff Davis taught a great class about painting hair. Painting up the rest of the mini was a great excuse not to work on my Barros&Tempest project. I did miss some evil mold lines, also I'm not too happy with the rosy gold paint I used on her staff. The paint has basically a rosy base with some big golden flakes in it that don't mix too well. I see it working on a car (low rider style) or a guitar body, but not as a stand in for actual rose gold. Apart from that, I'm quite happy how she turned out. The mini has a surprising amount of detail, so lots of opportunities to practise brush skills.
  5. Painted her up last weekend at the RVE for class. Now this is definitely not my best paint job, far from it. Nor is it a creative colour scheme - it is exactly as given in class. Still, Sascha is one of the minis I am proudest of. You see, I am a really slow painter. When I paint a mini, it usually takes forever. Even for my "get-it-off-my-desk-quality" I need more than a week to finish just the painting. Not with her I didn't! All painting was done during the one hour class (except prepping and varnishing, of course). When the Zoom feed ended I put down my brushes. I didn't correct any mistakes I found later. And I won't. This class was a game changing experience for me. Thanks, Tish Wolter, for making that happen!
  6. I was fortunate enough to be able to attend the RoSD panel this morning. It was really great; thanks Joe and Reaper Team. Much of the panel was Joe explaining what the game was about and a bit of how it plays. Some of the high points for me were: The first few suppliments will be compiled together into one big volume. In the past, the web releases for Frostgrave were compiled into the Frostgrave Folio and Joe wrote some new material that release. Here's hoping he will for the RoSD collected volume as well, coming from the girl who has everything. Joe believes that games should have a solo element. Covid has only reinforced this. He wants purchasers to be able to play his games immediately after purchase. Expect continued support for solo elements in his games. RoSD is the only game that was specifically designed for solo play, and will play better this way than the -Grave family. The second part of the trilogy that started with Across the Wastes has gone to the printers. This will be a dungeon crawl-style game. It will have 4 levels. Much of this mission will have hidden clues. What monsters await the rangers in the rooms of the dungeon is not specified on set up. The third part of the trilogy is still in development. It has to do with storming an enemy fortress and is called [something] Citadel. Joe wouldn't give us too many details for fear of spoiling the content of the second part. Across the Wastes is getting minis to support some of the stranger creatures. The humpback and zombie camels are the ones he mentioned. Strangely, he didn't talk much about how similar -Grave and RoSD are mechanically. I'm not going to talk about it either on the assumption that there are plenty of videos and comments about this already on the internet. Chat wanted to know mostly about minis (surprised?) and about online games. RoSD has a robust Facebook following and there are some fan-made missions there. He also talked about self-publishing his game in both America and the UK. Social media has played a major impact in getting the games exposed and creating a fan base.
  7. continuing to paint the RVE minis, here's my roogtarki
  8. I went with cursed gold and new gold with tungsten plating and sepia glazes for shadows on the gold bits. Blue titanium and hot blue for the blue parts, with a little bit of nightmare black for lines. Skin is a base of vampire mist with amethyst purple and brains pink glaze. Hair is mercury fliers blue with led blue and vampire mist highlights.
