Scale 75 is expanding their line of artist tube paint and inks. More general colors, some more specialized inks (apparently matte ink), and fluorescent paint tubes - that actually glow under black light. Bonus for folks who have previously backed their Kickstarters too. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/scale75/scalecolor-artist-smooth-acrylic-paints-2/description

Fractured Dimensions Barbhast Devils (OPDV23)
knarthex posted a topic in Works in Progress: Painting
For me, March is going to be Demons and Devils month.... Here are the 3 primed Barbed Devils from Mortal Arrow / Fractured Dimensions... Nice crisp castings, no flash, very little mold lines. Assembly was a little finicky, and putting pins into them was a chore.... George (Been sick for the past 3 days, prep work is all I could do.... )- 38 replies

So these guys are finally done! They got attached to their Secret Weapon Bases, I tried to make them look like some sort of blasted ash waste. So here they are! As I was painting, I saw the opportunity to have a little fun. It is something that only the older players are likely to get... (And of course, if my painting skill translates the image in my head to other people!) here is a hint: If you get the joke, please put your answer in a spoiler! Let's see how many people find it, and understand! Thanks for looking, and to all those that followed along and commented in the WiP thread! George ps, there is a little bit of flock dust on the black edges of some of the bases, that is because I was in a hurry to get these posted as I need to get to bed!

This was my second entry for the Painter's category at ReaperCon 2017. He is Tarko from Scale 75's Fallen Frontiers line. He was a challenge for me as I have not painted many sci fi minis and I was testing the Scale 75 Fantasy and Games paints on him. I knew I wanted to do a red/orange/yellow armor accented with blue and it ended up pretty close to what I had imagined. He ended up not being the entry that was judged but he was mainly a "lets try this idea out" mini so I know there are some areas that need work. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Well, I finally got to a point on these where it would be worth it to post. These are my major projects that I will be working on for the next few months and all four are planned ReaperCon entries. Right now there is not much to see as they are just at the primer stage but the bases are built and also ready for paint. So from left to right we have the Dark Elf Assassin from Scale 75, Tarko from Scale 75's Fallen Frontiers line, Dark Sword's Wood Elf Warrior, and Reaper's own Crimson Herald. Please excuse the blurry pics, I am cleaning my apartment and this was the best place to take pics.

This is Scale 75's Bitsie or to use the the full title; Ares Condominium, Operator 31, 'Bitsie'. I have no idea what all that means since there's no backstory to the piece. Nada. There are six metal parts and a resin base. I epoxied the base to a wooden block and enlarged it with Aves Apoxie Sculpt, added some kitty litter (fresh!) rocks, some wire rebar, a bent styrene pipe, and the smashed pink teddy bear (also Aves). Overall the fit was fine, but there where some areas where the detail got a bit soft and/or nebulous. It was nothing that couldn't be handled. I pinned and epoxied all of the joints. I was originally going to paint it a medium to dark blue with white trim and red hair, but eventually opted to paint and weather her like a tank. It's the armor and guns... I used Dremel ball and dovetail cutters to ding up her armor before priming the figure with Floquil Model Railroad Gray Primer (no longer available, BTW). The basic color scheme is Reaper's Olive Drab and Earth Brown triads. Think RAF Spitfire circa 1940. Very military. I painted the small yellow disks on her shoulder armor and use 1/48 British tank registration numbers for the '31'. It was my wavy of tying her into the name. Her undersuit is painted Adamantium Black, while Scorched Metal was used on the vents. I went with red hair (a complement to the green, but everyone knows armed-to-the-teeth red haired space babes rock). The impact marks, scratches, scrapes, dust, and dirt were a combination of dark metal paints, colored pencils, tan/brown washes. The landscaping is based on Rover HD photos of Mars' surface with the Power Palette to point to the right colors. Questions and comments are welcomed. No secrets here... Glen

Hello again everyone! It's been a little while since I've had anything to show off, but I've been busily painting nonetheless, and I hope you all enjoy my latest piece: This awesome little chibi is one of Scale 75's Smog Rider miniatures, and you can rest assured that (with such awesome sculpting and casting on their part) I'll be looking to paint another mini from that line before too long! Thanks a bunch for looking!

Hello again, everyone! Life has been busy, but I'm finally back to painting with this fun old warrior from Scale 75's Smog Riders line! Unfortunately, it is quite late and I'm quite tired, so this will be just a photo-drop post, but I'll be back with more info soon! Thanks for looking; I hope you like him so far!

So here is my second try at Balto Burrowell. The first was last Fall's Exchange, and it was going to be this mini, but it got damaged so..... (Info in WiP) Kind of another case of 'I want you off my desk' working here, as I started him quite a while ago... Here he is, on his elevating Secret Weapon Base... And some Higher Angle: Comments and Critiques welcome! George

So here are the mighty Goblins, painted more than 25 years after their brethren.... Just goes to show that even and old fool can learn a thing or two.... Before: After: Before: After: Before: After: Before: After: Before: After: So there you have them! Tried a little bit of shading on the metals of the weapons, using Decay Black where zenithal light would be absent, don't know how much it helps... And for minis that have been used in countless AD&D games since they were painted, the old ones still don't look too bad.... Comments welcome! WiP here Thanks for looking! George

****So fool that he is, the minion has released me to stalk the upper worlds for prey....**** Yes that does mean he is finished.... So I did some last minute touch ups, and worked on his base, and finally got him all together. High Angle B&W And I was told, in no uncertain terms, that His real Minions deserved their own pics... Whatever colors that I thought would look ok on the sewage to make it not so mono colored.. Secret Weapon Stone Wash with GW 'Ardcoat for the sewage covering for the color and shine... Fine Earth Flock, and a mix of Fine Earth and Light Green Flocks for moss / algae / scum... The flocks were especially important around his feet, as they helped conceal the join under his feet and his little minions.... (The little specks on the base are motes of flock that have since been blown off with my air compressor...) (Hey, next time I do this guy, I am going to paint the rats YELLOW! ) This is, IMHO, one of those cases where the synergy between the figure and the base really lifts the whole above the 2 separate components.... Moral of that story, Base your minis! Critiques and comments welcome! George WiP Here ***Which way to the surface?????***

I interrupt my other works in progress to bring you this special Project. But George, those guys are already done, you are thinking.... And you would be right! I painted these guys when I was in college, back in the early 90s, using the Polly S & Ral Partha AD&D Paint Lines... And seem to have missed the fact that the guy with the 2 handed mace is wearing some sort of skull cap! But now, I have 5 more! Thanks to another forumite that was going to use them as weight for the melt tables at R Con, he was kind enough to let me save them from the abyss... So it will be fun to see what this group will look like, with all of the things I have learned from my fellow forumites in the last 9 months, and using Good brushes, a wet palette, Scale 75 paints, Reaper and Vallejo, and yes, Polly S AD&D 460 Goblin Flesh! Come back and see when I get more than primer on them! (They are also Goblin Flesh practice for the Infamy Goblin Chieftain on the Death Chicken....) George

So finished these guys up, a touch of Snakebite Leather on all the claws, followed by Bleached Bone. Their teeth goth Bleached Bone, followed by VMC Ivory. All those got a light touch of GW Devlin Mud. Bases are Secret Weapon, with different types of flocks, and some Silflor short weed tufts. My thanks to everyone that chimed in during my WiP! They would not look as good as they do without all your comments and help! Further comments welcome! George

Posted 08 August 2015 - 10:46 PM Super Work! Hope these come on the market soon... 8) George (From this post) Ever since I heard about, and saw these minis, I have lusted for them! Well, I now have a few, and am starting them this month... This is the Bodak, and I also am using the Horned Head and Hammer options, even though the original art work from Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth, and MMII show them with an Axe (Bardiche actually IIRC) and no horns. (And I love Finch's paint job!) I have a thing for Warhammers, having seen Hank Rheinheart (RIP) of Museum Replicas, do a demonstration with them and maces vs swords at DragonCon back in the '90s... (The damage to armor, and hence the body wearing the armor, from a hammer is devastating!) If (when) I get another one of these, I will use the other options... Anyway, I cleaned him up, and primed him, cut the tab off, and put in the pins. I chose another Secret Weapon Base from the Bag O' Crap, and plan to try to do a lava flow effect in the channel.... Going to need to search for lava tuts now.... So here he is in primer.... (Finch, did you assemble then paint, or do it separately?) George

So here is Balto Burrowell, in the primer. The reason I am starting here, is that this was one of the minis that I was going to paint for the Fall Exchange. The problem is that when I was stripping the last of the paint from him with my Dremel tool and a wire brush, I ground off his nose with the chuck of the tool! Needless to say I was upset, and had to order a new mini to paint. I kept him around to remind me to be a little smarter and more careful when using power tools on minis, and he has always been giving me the evil eye from my painting desk, sitting there un primed, with Frankenstein's hand me down boots, as I never finished removing the base from under his feet. So I was doing some putty work the other evening, and decided to give him some plastic surgery! I put a tiny dab of green stuff on his face, and tried to shape it so that it looked like the original. I tried an X Acto knife, my clay shapers, dental picks, and finally, a straight pin. How people sculpt these things on these little guys is beyond me! (Yes I did see Cornelius Dapperbear, I am surprised Talespinner can still see!) So here is Balto, let me know what you think of his nose! Painting to commence tonight, after the Liquid green stuff dries... George

--->Since I didn't have enough stuff going on<--- And Halloween is right around the corner, I needed to paint something in that theme... Since in 30+ years of painting minis, I have never painted a Vampire, I decided it was time when I found these 2 guys in the pile of blister packs... People commented that the Duergar I painted a while back had nice creepy looking flesh tones, and I agree. So I am going to take these 2 one step further up the layering chain of colors that I used there. Then we will see if I start adding White to the mix.... Maybe the Reaper Spectral White, with that hint of Blue in it? Eyes were done with GW Scorched Brown, then Reaper Spectral White. Matthias I started with Scale 75 Brown Grey, then Rainy Grey: Sorry about the blurry pics, to late now to re take them though! Camera focusing on wrong parts, and operator not checking the pics... Then a layer of Thar Brown Next will be Thar Brown with Mojave White. Then lots of glazes of that mix to smooth things out. Comments, Thoughts, Ideas all welcome! 8) George Edit-->Ivan was moved to his own WIP Thread Edit--->added sku to tag

So here is my new work in progress thread for Ivan, as I had to give him a soak in Simple green after destroying all the work I had done on his face.... All paints Scale 75 unless otherwise noted... New Pics: Basically re doing what I had done before, starting with P3 white Primer Eclipse Grey in the eye sockets, followed by Reaper Spectral White, and Eclipse Grey Pupil. They are a little off set, but the 'cowl makes it hard to get things straight.... Brown Grey base coat, and 1st layer with Rainy Grey Comments and Critiques welcome! George

Finished up the Vourgha the Ogre late last night, and based him this afternoon. So here he is! Pic's Some close ups of his face: This was the 1st time I tried '5 O'Clock shadow' on a figure, and I thought it came out well... At least 1 of the close ups seems to be in focus Comments Welcome! 8) George Of to Irrisen in Golarion now for a few hours...

So here are a couple of candelabra from The Altar of Evil w Victim. More Dungeon dressing stuff for our Pathfinder Game... Done with primarily Scale 75 metallics, but the base of the stick itself is a metallic blue Reaper sample paint I got some time ago. It blended very well with the Scale colors to darken and lighten while staying with metallic colors. It is difficult to see, but I tried to copy the colors for the candle flame from the reference post by Cranky Dog. I tried to do some fine brown ink lines instead of the usual white/yellow/orange/red... It might not have been the best place for it, but I like it, and its done... The Base is a washer with Apoxie sculpt cobbles... It was very difficult to photograph, so sorry in advance for the pics... Thanks for looking! George
