Finally completed the diorama. The figures are 75mm. The floor, walls and bookcase are scratch build. Happy hou it turned out

This is Scale 75's Ares Operator 03. It's a 40mm resin future soldier and apparently part of a gaming system. The package had some cards in it, but since I don't play the game, they're a bit lost on me... Anyhoo... The figure is four parts - head, upper torso/arms, lower torso/legs, and the rifle with molded on hands. Cleanup was taking care of the usual casting seams and the removal of bits and pieces of mold trash. I used the gray Stynelrez primer (brushed on out of the bottle) and Reaper MSP paints. I used a Dremel tool and ball/dovetail cutters to mark up/damage the armor and went with a splotchy green camo. While they have their place, I tend not to use bright colors on military figures because all they say to me is 'Here I am! Shoot me!'. The figure is mounted on a sanded/stained wood craft block with Aves Apoxie Sculpt groundwork, kitty litter rocks and somebody's weeds. I added a dripping rusty pipe coming out of the ground and a large putty teddy bear. Qs and Cs welcomed. Glen

Now that I have your attention... This is Percival, a one inch(ish) tall resin penguin from Scale 75. The piece is part a larger model in S75's SmogRiders line. It's not normally available separately, but I was able to score one when it fell off a truck. The piece originally had a WW I style Prussian spiked helmet. I removed the helmet and added a WW II British helmet from my spares box. The groundwork is Aves putty stippled with a stiff oil painting brush to give it a sandy texture. The sandbags are also putty formed with my fingers. I left my fingerprints on them to give the impression of coarsely woven canvas. The sign is sheet plastic and strip. Reaper MSP paints. Eventually, it'll have a name plate 'Why Am I Here?' Qs and Cs welcomed. Glen

Got just a few touch ups and he'll be done. It's my first large scale mini and the first time I've ever used an airbrush to get work done. I think he turned out pretty good. Pardon the low quality of my pics, my light box decided to break and my phone camera is crap.

Just finished that one who was sitting on my desk for long time. Kind of mess up one eyes looking close up but hmm , this is still my weak point ( cause I usually avoid them haha ).

I just started working on this figure from Scale75. It's officially called Jessica Thunderhawk, but the sculpt (and box art) are based on a piece of art from the Comicon Challenge 2014 that is meant to be Lady Mechanika. I wasn't immediately familiar with the character, but some quick googling and I found out she's the mean character in a series of steampunk comics. I like the original art, but since the box art version already matches it, I thought I should do something a little different. I took a look at some of the other art surrounding Lady Mechanika and used that for inspiration. To see how the colors looked I began with a quick base coat After that I spent some time cleaning up the stripes on her pants, although that will get a lot more work when I start to shade and highlight. Then I went to work on her face and skin. For a female figure I tried to take a softer approach to the shading on her face. Major features can still get lots of contrast, but smaller lines and features really should be downplayed. Emphasizing the lines under the eyes or from the nose to the mouth will make the figure look more masculine. The same goes for painting children. Still a long way to go, but I'm happy with her so far.

Finally got these 4 finished. I see places that I really could do more work on them, But the muse has flown here, and I am getting tired of painting them! WiP Here Cleric: Segeant: Hammer Grunt: Axe Grunt: His axe reminds me of a 40k Chain Axe... Thanks for looking! George

Happy Labor Day weekend folks! Last week I completed Brom the Wanderer from Scale 75 for a client. He had a specific look he wanted, and even had some photos of a similar paint job. We settled on price and time alloted to this project, and here he is! The rocks are cork and greenstuff, with some sand and small stones in between. The lava was created using SceneARama realistic water. All mounted on a wooden base. Hope you like him. Thanks for looking!

I've been hearing about Scale75 paints for awhile now, and after watching Willen's video I put them on my Christmas list. No one bought them for me though, so I had to go and pick them up myself. To start I decided to go with their Flesh set. Overall I like my Vallejo, but some of their skintones look a little orange to my eyes. Of course I can mix what I want, but a little variety is never a bad thing. Their sets also come with a small painting guide. If it wasn't for having four languages on it, the guide could have been printed on an index card. It's not going to outdo Willen's video, but here's my little unboxing. Aside from the paint you'll notice some tape and a pin vise. The tape is a little trick I learned at work; it keeps cheap ink from rubbing off of bottles. There's no point in covering the whole thing, but a strip over what's important can save some confusion later. Interestingly enough, the labels on a $3 bottle of paint are not really higher quality than those on a $180 bottle of similar size. While the bottles themselves are not as rounded as the Vallejo ones they do use essentially the same tip, with one important difference. The Scale75 is not drilled out at the factory. If you take the cap off and squeeze it'll be a bit messy. Vallejo's openings are about 1.5mm, while Reaper's are about 1.2mm. I actually like the slightly smaller opening so these got drilled to 1.2mm. Now that I have some new paint, I need something to try it out on. At first I was thinking bones, but I've already painted most of these in the box that were showing a bit of skin. Then I remembered that I had the Kingdom Death Pinups box just gathering dust on my shelf. Pinups it is! Back in like Jr high I used to do a bit of modeling. While most of what I had from back then is long gone, I did still have a bottle of polystyrene glue that I'd kept. Does this stuff last for 20 years? There's one way to find out! That's right, cut a couple of ends off the sprues and glue them together. It made a nice bond so on to the first mini. I didn't fully assemble the Twilight Knight simply because that cape was going to get in the way of painting. She'll be painted in two sections and then glued together at the end. Drilling out for pinning isn't really necessary but I went ahead and made a hole in the body just so I didn't have to worry about clipping my paperclip holder off completely flush. I also drilled out her heels so I could pin her to whatever I end up using as a base. Now for a color scheme. I don't really follow the fluff for KD, but I though the colors on the included card were kind of boring. Since she's a twilight night she should have twilight colors! A quick search turned up a few that I liked. At first I was thinking the first image, but now I'm leaning more towards the second. To start, the cape. It's the single largest item on the mini so I decided to go with blue. Now I'm not going to paint a sunset on it or anything, but I am thinking about a dark to light transition on it. I based it with the appropriately named Night Blue, but in the process discovered that it wasn't a good choice due to it being a bit transparent. Lesson learned for next time, but for now after many layers I have something to start from. And now, time to watch more football.

For my next Grenadier mini I chose the "Guardswoman." She is showing a decent amount of skin so I decided to use her as an experiment in doing a darker skintone with the Scale75 flesh set. My main concerns were that my basecoat would look a little too red (it did) and that the jump between the shadow and the midtone colors of the set was so large that it would require a half-step (it did). Fortunately a few simple glazes was all it needed to get the colors as I wanted them, though I didn't put the time in to get perfectly smooth transitions. For the rest I once again went with the color scheme as shown on the box art. Since she was already a test I decided to use her for another couple of experiments. I don't have any personal recipes for NMM steel or gold, but I do have some colors that I think should work. Just as with the skin, the NMM was all about seeing how the colors worked rather than getting the smooth blended necessary for the effect. Before I really go all in, I want to study some properly lit metal (which excludes the majority of CMON). Since I decided to do this halfway through I also ran into a bit of an issue with rough edges that I hadn't worried about during the prep stages. It's tricky to do edge highlighting when the edge itself is flawed. Since on the box she's a guard getting ordered about by an Egyptian looking person I did a simple freehand of the Eye of Horus on her shield. Also, this is yet another true 25mm mini with eyelids... and I just don't see what you all are complaining about.

One of my January painting goals was to branch out and paint a mini from a company that I had yet to paint a mini from. I chose the Kingdom Death hard plastic pinups in part to see how well their assembly goes and in part to see how durable the hard plastic they're using is. Another goal I had was to try something new, which for January was the Scale75 flesh paint set. For anyone interested in the details you can get them in my WIP. Of course, we're now into February and I've pretty much set the same goals for myself. This time the something new was attempting to paint marble. I ended up going with a white marble with blue-grey and ocher veins. I like how it looks from above, but my freehand on the backside didn't turn out as well. First the 360 view: From above the gold mask and my attempt at "natural" reddish-brown hair: And a few views of how the marbleizing effect turned out. And last a bonus closeup. She was a fun mini to paint. I'll have to find the time to work through the rest of the box, but first I have a quick and easy mini primed and ready to go.

This is a little different from my usual projects. I've been wanted to do more large scale fantasy figures and recently picked up this Dark Elf from Scale75. He's got a sneaky assassin look which has inspired most of my color decisions. I went with super pale skin (Dusky Skin, Dusky Skin Highlight, and Vampiric Skin, then some subtle glazes of reddish purple and blueish purple). I wanted to go with some dark and dull colored clothing which turned into a whole monochromatic look for the figure. All the non metallic parts are variations of Pure Black, Dusky Skin Shadow, Dusky Skin, Dusky Skin Highlight, Weathered Stone, and Leather White. To make up for the lack of color I've added some freehand embellishments to his clothing. Here are a couple closer views

Has anyone out there tried the Scale75 paints yet? They look interesting. Especially the NMM sets to help a person starting off on that technique. But the colors themselves look quite nice. Just wondered how well they worked in practice before getting a set for trial.
