Howdy, They call him The Scribbler... Kev!

This is from Atlantis Miniatures dwarf Kickstarter - I painted him a while ago but only just got around to getting the photos off the memory card. The red hair took a few attempts, doing my best to follow Marsya's tutorial. My first attempt at tartan as well, and I think it was successful! And I've got lots more of his dwarven buddies on which to improve!

Sometimes you eat the paint, and sometimes the paint eats you. This one is closer to the latter. Here’s Jolie the blue-themed Scribe: I just wanted to relax and have some fun with this mini, and try out some paints for the first time. So I started out basecoating her robes in Frosty Blue from the holiday set, and it looked pretty good. Used some Rosy Skin and Scholar Flesh on her skin, and it looked pretty good. Unboxed the blond hair triad and laid down the mid tone and it looked pretty good, which was when it became apparent I was painting Disney’s Cinderella. That could not stand, so I threw some gray in front and gave her a pink sash, which was originally a dark blue then an ill-advised red. I’m honestly pleased at how those parts turned out, especially the highlights in front. The rest of the model was a series of small disasters in shadow and highlights, and at some point I decided it was as good as it was going to get, tossed some Palomino Gold on the fancy bits, and put an end to the struggle. Though I did take the opportunity to try painting sheer clothing, not sure if it works (gloved forearm): C&C appreciated.

Here's the WIP thread. I really like this model for its personality! Though I did find it difficult to keep the lines clean. Still, I think she turned out okay. The runes in her book spell out "Jolie" in the futhark. The base is from Micro Arts studio.

This is one of the last figures from my year-end Conga Line of finishing up half-done minis, Reaper's 60079: Lyrie Akenja, a Pathfinder miniature sculpted by Julie Guthrie. She's a special figure to me. Lyrie Akenja is the first figure I bought after a twenty-year hiatus from minis. I spotted her somewhere, thought "Wow, an African wizard! Things sure have changed," and bought her, along with a few other minis. I then proceeded to give her the worst paint job I had ever given a mini in my life. I hadn't realized that I needed glasses nowadays, and I was too nervous to focus properly. So after some angst, I soaked her paint off and started again. And set her aside for a couple of years while I developed a new skill set. And then picked her up again to finish with the Conga Line. I like her little pushing the hood up with the wand gesture.

Now the exchange mini is done I started work on a new diorama. This will be the inside of a fantasy Library where a party of adventurers is planning a trip. Central will be a large globe. The back will be two stories high with build in bookcases and a walkway on the second floor. The plan is to have one sidewall with a large window and a tapestry. The walls will have wood paneling and possible a mosaic floor. As I am waiting on some materials I started painting the minis for the diorama. The gentleman contemplating the floor is Grand Master Pycelle from Dark Sword. The floor is a test piece I made to see if it works. What do you think? In the back are from left to right: Ailyn Ghonstasavos, Hellknight Captain, Jolie Female Scribe, Balto Burrowell, Cleric of Mammon and the Discworld Librarian from microartstudio. In the planning are also books (duh), maps and all kinds of curios things and knickknacks. Oh, and cats.
