My pumpkin issues continue to develop. When I decided I needed to do something non-HeroQuest I rummaged through the Big Bones V Box and grabbed a few things. This is the second one I've finished. I'm not going to go into a longwinded bit about the colors. I've got most of them in paintRack, though, in case anyone has a burning curiosity. I might not be 100% on the base, though I should be close. Overall, I felt like the jacket was originally part of a uniform, so I tried keeping that in mind when I did the colors. And since the pumpkin is orange, I wanted a nice contrast (which means I was going to select a blue for it). And you can't really tell it, but his teeth are metallic. I figured if you're going to go through the trouble of animating up an ogre-sized scarecrow, why not splurge a bit for some extra chompatude. This one was lots of fun, and he painted up nicely (I think). I still wonder what army got their ogres in fancy getups like these. And a shot of the base because it deserves it. I've got to admit that I was a bit confused by it, though. To my eye, the stalks looked fresher than the fall theme of the pumpkin might suggest. I decided to go with "fall" and make the stalks nice and dried out. The skull is a nice touch. I accidentally clogged the nasal opening, though, and my brief attempt to fix it didn't work. I ended up just accepting it. The detail on the corn is a little shallow, the same with the skull. I'm sure I covered up more than a little bit, but I'm not exactly painting for display or competition. I'm just trying to do a nice tabletop (maybe a little better) level. Thanks for dropping by!

Been a long time since I've posted in Show Off. But hey, a load of painting, some procrastination, some waiting for new brushes to come in, and some more procrastination will do that. So, recently I've been painting the faction leaders from Scythe by Stonemeier Games. Love that game a lot, and so I decided I'd paint the minis from it, 'cuz hey, that's what I do. However, I wasn't in the mood for painting bland old mechs four times over, in addition to the leaders, so I just decided to paint the leaders. Seemed the sensible thing to do. So, here they are in order of, well, the order I painted them in. First up we have Anna and Wojtek, of the Republic of Polania. When I have the choice, I always play as them, so I wanted to give a bit of extra love and attention here. However, love and attention are two very difficult things to give when your brushes are fraying and honestly just aren't very good. So, bought some new brushes. Unfortunately, I had no desire to go back and repaint, as that would certainly blur out of a lot of detail, of which there wasn't much to begin with, so I decided to keep what didn't look so great and apply my new skills to what wasn't painted. As you'll also see with the other minis, I tried to apply the faction's color as a highlight color of sorts. I didn't want it to be the main color, as that'd make it lose its specialness, but I wanted it to catch the eye as it swept across the board. In this case, the faction color of Polania is white. Thus, Anna's cap and scarf are white. You'll see similar stuff done later on with the other minis. Additional Pics: Next up we have Olga and Changa, probably my favorite of the bunch. This pair from the Rusviet Union was an absolute joy to paint, especially in the case of Changa. I'd never painted a tiger before, and man! It really had never occurred to me how incredible these creatures are, despite all my zoo trips and whatnot. This was also my first major attempt at painting good eyes, keyword being good (Wojtek's black dots don't count). I think they turned out pretty good, but the left one is a little wonky. Hey @Corsair, you should make this one of your questions in "Getting to Know You". Which would you fear more, a tiger, or a pretty Russian lady with a Tommy gun? Additional Pics: Coming in at number three, we've got Gunter, Nacht, and Tag, from Saxony. Being German in heritage, I immediately knew which dog was which* (And no, he couldn't have pulled a switcheroo on me. It's in the rulebook of which one is which. No joke). However, I thought that it wasn't quite fair to Tag to have only Nacht on the mini. Plus, I didn't want to have to paint the dog completely black, as that's no fun at all. So I decided I'd make the dog on the miniature a mix of both dogs. Maybe it's their child, I guess? *For my non-German-speaking friends, Nacht and Tag mean night and day, respectively. Additional pics: Next up, we got Bjorn and Mox , from the Nordic Kingdoms. Being from the Midwest, you have no idea how hard it is to not put a Minnesota Vikings joke here. Anyways, this is probably my second-favorite of the five. One major reason would be this was the first of the Scythe minis I painted where the human and the beast weren't standing side-by-side. This was a ginormous boon to me, as I was getting sick and tired of painting in the itty-bitty space between the two. You'll also notice I took some artistic liberties with his hair. Deal with it. Additional pics: Well, I must've really lost my mind on this one, becasue those are NOT Bjorn and Mox, rather those two are Zehra and Kar, of the Crimean Khanate. Ah well, I mean, we all make mistakes, don't we? Don't we? Anyways, I really don't care for these two. I didn't feel inspired at all and it just seemed like a very bland mini. But hey! It had a bird, and I love painting birds, so shut up, self. I also am a bit put off by the color of the base. It just doesn't seem right... Additional pics: Overall, these were some really fun minis to paint, despite the low level of detail. I look forward to my next game and getting to see them on the board! Couple of extra notes: Yes, I know these aren't all the Scythe leaders, but I don't own the expansion, so I guess those'll have to come later. You might notice some dust on the minis. This came from my clear coat, and it rubs off upon touch. Rather than waste my time brushing it off, I left it there it so it gets rubbed off during play and normal handling. One bird, zero stones. Wait, that doesn't sound quite right. How does it go again?

My first Reaper Forum post! Please give constructive criticism if you have any suggestions! At first I was going to make this dark priest Caucasian, but then decided to go for a “Abdul Alhazred” feel, complete with human flesh scroll and inscribed in blood. I am glad to be on the forum and will post more on my extended “sinister graveyard cult” that I am working on!

Mold lines, it seems, are my weakness. Fortunately, this model, which I absolutely love, had lots of wrinkly bits that I could use to try and hide them. :-)

My D&D group's cleric is a follower of Chauntea, a plant goddess. He wields a scythe. He's also incredibly short for a human. He's absurdly chipper. He's the city's marijuana grower and distributor. For some reason, the player picked this figure, one of the townsfolk, to represent his character. I don't like this figure. Player stated that I could do low detail on him. I'm not sure there is a sufficient paint job to give him a cheerful face. C&C as I go is welcome. He isn't going to be one I super nitpick but I'd like him to be generally tidy. Might attempt OSL for practice. Oh bother. I thought I was in the WIP forums. Serves me right for doing this on the phone. Mod help pretty please?

I do have a princess mousling to alleviate the death and dead stuff painting I've been doing. But I couldn't resist putting a face on this one. Any resemblance to FLOTUS is entirely coincidental, seriously. I think the shading/highlighting toned it down, but the figure does have the angular structure on the face. To conceal the mold lines I failed to remove on her exposed leg and arm I'm going to freehand some tattoos. I really should do better on removing mold lines. Oh well.

My Bones III Kickstarter fulfillment arrived a couple of days ago, and I've been happily sorting through them. I've engaged in all three Reaper kickstarters so far, but I doubt that I'll do another — it's not that they're not a good deal, but there's always a very, very long wait for them to arrive, and they've all been very heavy on the character figures, of which I really do have an ample supply. I mainly want the monsters, and it'll be simpler just to buy them individually when they eventually appear in the shop. I chose this one to start the painting with, mainly because it would be very quick and easy to do, and in fact it only took about twenty minutes. It probably would have taken longer if I'd actually removed any of the mould lines, which I kind of forgot about in my enthusiasm. I don't know what its SKU is; I couldn't find it with a (fairly brief) search in the online store.

Greetings! Presenting Reaper's January 25th Anniversary miniature - Grim Reaper. This was quite a straightforward mini to paint, done in a veritable rainbow of dark colours. Working out how to do the hourglass (glass) was a bit tricky, I painted it all black & added a layer of light brown for sand in each half (level with the ground). I wanted to try & make the actual glass purple tinged so I gave the top of each half a purple spot dry-brush then coated both halves with a purple glaze. this did help to tint both the empty & full sections of the hourglass in colour but it's probably too subtle & can't really be seen on the pics. Finally I gave the glass parts a gloss varnish. 1 Down, 11 to go......... (hopefully!)....... Thanks for looking!

Gauntfield, Necropolis Hero "Harrow, Reidlar of Terror" I bought Gauntfield to specifically use him as my terrifying Reidlar (embodiment of emotions/thoughts), Harrow, for my custom campaign, Markshire. The miniature was perfect for the character ... a detailed scarecrow with a scythe and a bag of bones and other tidbits who pulls unwary adventurers and children into his "Courtyard" to terrorize them with his smaller scarecrows stuffed with raven feathers and twisted ash sticks. This great miniature by Bob Ridolfi was based on a metal slug and I slowly created an eerie, dead tree from skewers, rocks, green stuff, and finally green putty. Then after it was assembled and painted, I decided he needed a pile of leaves around his legs. Ones drawn together by his magic so you'll see traceries of fell yellow magic outlining the leaves. You can see all of the steps leading to this finished piece on the WIP. I present, Harrow. Enjoy. Check him out in the Inspiration Gallery. Lady Andaisin was defeated tonight by Unit04 and the other members of "The People's Champions" (aka, The PCs) She was a fairly quick job, mostly letting the airbrush do the hard work, then glazing over with inks and translucent paints. I've got another mini queued up for posting as soon as my players encounter it...

Hello, so I decided it would be fun to do a Halloween type miniature for the month of October, and had picked up the Wild West scarecrow a while back, and paired him up with a Secret Weapon Miniatures Creeping infection base. I'm still thinking about the color scheme so I would not mind suggestions at this point since I don't entirely want to go with the usual earth tones across the whole thing. Thanks for any input in advance!

When I pulled this dude out of the bin, I felt like I had to paint him very blingy-- like those chains weren't iron, they were gold, and that scythe should be made from some kind of exotic metal... and somehow this ended up with him being a Priest of the Metal Gods in my mind's eye. Unfortunately I couldn't get the camera to focus on his left side at all... Anyway, rock on, metal priest!

I worked on this figure during the Memorial Day paint binge, but did not finish it until last week. She was part of the Lords of Darkness set from KS2, sculpted by Bob Ridolfi. Wasn't sure about the ribs. They weren't quite pronounced enough to paint as some kind of bone vest, so I painted her pale and anorexic looking. I cut down her base and set her into the recessed round base, with sand.

Next up is Patrick Keith's Cleric of Urgathoa. Love this mini. I wanted her in white so badly, no idea why, really. But white her dress went. Went with the scythe turned backwards, as I've seen other places. Started figuring out how I wanted to highlight black hair with this old girl--using a lightened Nightmare Black--though I'm afraid it doesn't show up real great here. I still worry about overdoing it. Anyway, she's scheduled to be an NPC in my PF game; should make her debut tomorrow! Thanks for looking.

Safe to say this is the first dwarf butt I ever painted. One can only wonder about his association with rats. S&M Dwarf?

Something I started in mid-2014 as an experiment with shading, on the scroll. I got bored and finished it up in early January. The canister on a chain I've interpreted as something akin to D&D/PF's "Soul Jar", so it's got a bit of a bluish light to it. I tried to make it look like a faint point, and had a little bit of success I think. Everything on this guy is dark--a lot of it is more apparent on a darker background which I have very unhelpfully not provided--but I still kinda wonder if that soul jar should be a little brighter. Although the shading follows the contours of his robe, the darker splotch in the middle looks like a horrible mistake in hindsight! Some mild NMM and other source lighting effects.

Here is my King of Ghouls. My goal with the miniature was to create a skin tone that was indicative of an ancient and powerful undead horror. This ghoul has survived countless challenges from untold parties of adventurers. Primitive stitches hold together damage to his skin, whilst unnatural healing takes place underneath it's surface; hinted at by his menacing eyes. "It's skin, is that thing alive or dead...?" - Alric the cleric (shortly before death) The pair of ravens, his liaisons, his scouts, and his scavenging companions...one of whom carries the eyeball trophy of a recent challenger. Stoically one raven watches for challengers while the other celebrates the trophy. I wanted the NMM on the scythe and his little bits of boot armor and belt to look well-aged while still hinting at their unbelievable worth and functional status. I opted to use static grass on the base in conjunction with painted earth and rocks that compliment his overall color scheme. The goal of the grass is to juxtapose this powerful undead by contrasting his long-lived undeath with the appearance of surroundings that are fresh and healthy. There's a beautiful piece of AD&D 2nd ed artwork, I think from the Monstrous Compendium with a unicorn(?) and a skull or something like that and I had that idea in the back of my head. The colors I used include only Reaper MSP: dark elf shadow, jungle moss, faded khaki, dusky skin, pure black, dark skin, woodstain, maggot white, driftwood, blood red, magenta, auburn shadow, blue-grey paint sample, misty grey, pure white, oiled leather, mahogany, sun yellow. From the Imbrian Arts Kickstarter tag: The King of Ghouls- Once a mighty warrior, now he roams the earth, thrice damned and undying, tormented by the echoes of his past life and mocked by his ravens "Gone! Gone!"

So I was planning on trying to do a rotpatch model, but after looking at it on the site I am not so sure how well it would look on the table. Got to thinking though that if I was able to modify it a bit so that his pose does not look so "derpy" I could live with the model. I have green stuff on the way and the wires at the ready. I was planning on taking the limbs off to re-do the different parts for a much more dynamic pose. Like instead of his current "gotta pee" pose make it look more like he is stalking towards the adventurers or something. if anybody has done this model before I was wondering what other tools I would need to complete the model? Also what size of a base would he fit on? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
