EDIT: Kickstarter is now Live! "Hi everyone, we are back - and with a brand new Kickstarter! Later this week we are launching a Kickstarter featuring Viking and Anglo-Saxon ships, buildings and accessories - and we wanted to get the word out. Yes...more ships! During the Kickstarter we'll be making some of our older ships and popular models available for a limited time as well as the new ones. Same designs - but now unpainted. To recap on our history: Last year we closed up our webstore and decided to pretty much quit making models. But after some thought we came up with the idea for a "Model of the Month" (MoTM) - evolve to go forward! Each month we make a brand new model available for purchase - we take orders, build and ship exactly that number, then "retire" the kit and move on to something else on the next month. We have been slowly building up customers and getting the word out there. Some models did better than others but what was clear to us was that we still enjoyed making models, just at a more relaxed pace. Only doing one model a month was way more enjoyable and because we could mass-produce more efficiently - it's also a better business model for us. Renaissance Miniatures has never been our bread and butter. We do okay on Model-of-the-Month and Kickstarters but the webstore was always more pain than gain. Then came our small Viking ship as one of our MoTM offerings. Vikings was a genre we had never done before but our ship models are always a favorite of customers. So, rather than spinning them out over months - lo and behold: A new Kickstarter featuring what a lot of people know us for..ships! The Model of the Month is on hold right now while we get the Kickstarter running - but it'll start up again in a couple of months. But for now, the Viking Kickstarter is the main priority. Getting the models made and sent out to backers as quickly as possible. So please join us next week and follow along. Give us some feedback and lets make this fun again. No Peace Beyond the Line is the first major expansion for the Blood and Plunder miniatures game. There is going to be a pirate faction this year. Pirates need ships. Ships have names. Maybe it it would be fun (or even useful) to generate a list of names for such vessels. Ground rules: Family friendly. Be original. Italicize ship's names if you can manage. Avoid names that exist in history or especially prior fiction. Hey all, I thought I'd start a thread to share some of the other things that I have been painting. I started painting models around 25 years ago, mostly to be used for D&D. In the late 90s, though, I got introduced to Warhammer. I eventually painted up three big armies (Empire, Ogres, and Undead) but it was pirates and the nautical theme that really grabbed me. I am working on six smallish armies of Warhammer or Age of Sigmar, but I have also added lots of terrain and other models from Reaper. Here is a quick pic of a bunch of the models and terrain. I can go into more details later.

Hey all, I thought I'd share a little guide on how I converted two Weapons and Warriors pirate ships for gaming. These guys are usually for sale at a reasonable price ($25-30) on ebay as part of the W&W Pirate Battle game. They have the added bonus of coming with two smaller boats and lots of good extras like cannons and palm trees. Here is the unmodified ship. First I clipped the little extra bits that are for the W&W game, and then I puttied over any gaps. Then I gave the whole ship a couple of coats of brown primer. For terrain and other projects like this, I usually use Krylon primer. It does just fine when there is not a lot of small details to obscure. I primed the sails white. The main mast, mizzen mast, and bowsprit all detach. I picked out some detail colors and painted the decks a lighter color. The ships turned out like this: The two small ships and the two boats in the foreground are from W&W. The big ship in the back is a resin model. If you are looking for some ships for your games, this might be the way to go!

Greetings to you all, Following the advice I got from here first I have constructed myself a brand new light box. And procured some 5000K daylight bulbs as suggested, and here are the results: The ships are from the board game Black Fleet from Space Cowboys. After taking pictures I corrected the color levels using the GIMP tool and acquired these final images. I did try some shading on the sails of the purple navy ship, but considering the fact that these are meant for tabletop purpose and I really did not want to spend so much time on them so I dropped the idea. I am yet to find a suitable background but for now I'll make do with white... As always c&c's are welcome and I hope the admins will delete my post in the Shutterbug section soon, since this topic was related more with photography I had initially tried to post it over there and found out sadly that I was unable to upload images in there. What's worse I couldn't even manage to delete that post...

Hi every one, I play this game called Heroscape, its been discontinued since 2005 but there is still a decent following over at heroscapers.com A while back we started talking about and started a few threads on conversions and terrain that could be used. The only differences is that Heroscape is played on hexes and most of the figures are around 28mm tall. When converting it is really easy to just skip the hex part of the tutorial and apply this for any miniature game. With a bunch of pirate figures in the reaper line plus the pathfinder pirate and water themed figures, I thought it would be a good idea to share this over here. I have converted several ships and misc. terrain, I will start copying some of my guides and tutorials here and modify it so it makes sense for non Heroscape use. So any suggestions or comments are always welcomed. Now lets go drown some minis! First, a mini project. These boards are dedicated to a hobby that's all about massive retrofitting and repainting, but most people in other board games like very simple easy projects. for this purpose I did the following two tutorials that where supposed to be simple and done in under half an hour or so. So first of all thanks to metal chaos for the idea, you can see the original thread and discussion on acquiring ships here http://www.reapermin...aiden-and-crew/ So lets start with the basics, the smaller ship is a Mega bloks Black Pearl and the larger Is the mega bloks Flying Dutchman. The main issue with these ships is the hull are four separate sections as you can see I have attached each section using a combination of superglue and white glue when i ran out and loose 4x2 blocks btw these mega blocks are interchangeable with legos it seems if you need spare parts.. Also the goal of This is to have 2-4 ships with level decks with 5' grid markings for my skull and shackles game. My orignal worry was scale of the ships vs 28" minis but here you have a couple of examples (and as always forgive the crappy camera work) you can also see the major challenge that comes with these ships all those bloody nubs have to come off, Im going to grab a dremel kit to clean the upper deck. Btw My nearly complete ship came in, so here's a idea of what the finished products will end up looking like.
