I picked this up ages ago at a wargames fair I think from the Bring and Buy. No idea what the original story was - the blocks under the skulls each have a rune or a Roman numeral but I don't think the runes are from the same alphabet...and the helmet in the ashes is Greek. The cauldron though battered has the remains of raised decoration. But it is quite a fabulous piece and as a bonus the two parts can be used separately... Not sure what the hill giants have seasoned their Man-Stew with to get it that colour. I decided that they have come across the self-heating skulls artifact and used it. These Hill Giants I painted a few years ago have Neolithic tastes ( jewellery and tattoos) but have obviously raided a castle somewhere and adapted tapestries etc to wear. Slaine is a standard 28mm figure for scale....

While the official photos show five ten-skull sprues, I received four fourteen-skull sprues, or fifty-six skulls total. Each skull is a different sculpture, although the differences may only be noticeable when looking closely at the figure. Four skulls on each sprue depict a skull with damage to the back of the head. Skulls, of course, are easy to paint, so this set is great for beginners. If you've painted a skeleton, you should be able to paint this set. Skulls are often used in mass quantities for gaming, and several companies sell skulls in bulk. Games Workshop is best known for its Skulls set. Citadel Skulls, at thirty dollars, is about three times the price for over two-hundred human skulls alone, plus over seventy-five other bone-related pieces (eg. jawbones and non-human species). While I do not have the Citadel Skulls, not everyone has a need for Warhammer-specific skulls. The Citadel Skulls are made of hard plastic, so I presume they have mold lines and other cleanup. Tiny Furniture's "131-3 : Half hundred of skulls" is made from resin, so are much easier to clean. While Citadel Skulls is a better price per skull, as an advanced tabletop painter painting batches of figures for gaming, I rarely add skulls to bases. But when I need them, I need them. So, I would say that if you do not have any skulls and are already placing an order with Tiny Furniture, you should pick up their "131-3 : Half hundred of skulls" for the occasional skull or two you may want to use for the occasional figure that needs it. Painting the skulls on the sprue is easy, particularly since mold line removal is trivial. (I actually cleaned up the skulls after painting, by scraping off some excess resin with a hobby knife.) Prime in brown, dry brush or otherwise paint with an ochre color, such as Army Painter Skeleton Bone (I just used craft paint), then wash with a brown wash, such as Army Painter Strong Tone. You can do these steps very quickly, certainly up to advanced tabletop standards. When you need the skull, clip the skull of the sprue, mount on the base of the miniature, then touch-up as necessary.

This finally gave me something to use my larger Games Workshop skulls on. I may try to give his hair another highlight of something brighter, as it looks pretty dull at the moment. A fun evil mage that I hope to use as a boss battle one day.

This Ogre is quite chill. He's just lounging around with the club, ready to throw down but not in too big a hurry to. He has his swagger on, and is wearing his neck bling. Oh, and is that a magical pager on his belt?

I'm playing a half-orc warpriest in a Pathfinder game who uses a huge ol' axe. I figured this would be a pretty good mini for him. Base was made with GW Agrellan earth with some Vallejo pigments on it to give it some better color. I used rattlesnake leather as his base skin color, with a wash of dark elf shadow and highlighted with green ochre. I went with red hair, because why not? Reaper red hair triad.

Interesting and focused KS for skulls and other bones (not Reaper Bones!) in resin. You get a fair amount for the price.

Mountain Troll The Skull Collector This Mountain Troll, sculpted by Ben Siens, is inspired by the Abomination from Marvel Comics as seen in the early years of the Incredible Hulk. The Abomination has an interesting overall look to his skin. It's scaly and leathery, and naturally, green for a gamma irradiated monster. The back muscles of the miniature immediately reminded me of the Abomination so I ran with it. You can see for yourself how the artists drew and colored him... copyright Marvel As per usual, Ub3r N3rd complained that there weren't enough SKULLZ on the last miniature I posted so this one's all about the SKULLZ! Using some loose skulls from Toad King Castings as well as a trio on a flat piece, I built a skull pile of freshly peeled human sized skulls. I placed one in the corner for the one that rolled away a bit. And in his hand, the Skull Collector has an ogre skull to add to his growing pile. I used paints from Reaper Miniatures, mainly the Moss Triad as his skin tones, my recently acquired Army Painter Warpaints, some Scale 75 metallic paints for the armor and axe and a few Vallejo paints. The troll is mounted on a piece of slate with his integral base merged with sand and ballast to bring the terrain level. The bush and vines are both created from moss. Wizards of the Coast's Dungeons & Dragons Fire Giant Stalking the Steps This 25mm scale Fire Giant isn't humongous by today's miniature line standards but he has a lot of character. The sculptors, Chaz Elliot and then apprentice, Jason Wiebe, put a lot of great detail into this fellow. I personally love the knowing grin on his face. However, partly because of the scale and the sculpted position of the giant, I felt he wasn't set up right. So he was reposed a smidge. When I first looked him over at the work table, I held him on a slab of slate and tried to visualize him on a game board. It's fairly obvious that he was originally meant to be looking down at the puny humans before him but against the more prolific 28-32mm scale miniatures I own, he was looking at their chests or groins. So after playing around with slate pieces such, I finally figure him out. He needed his sword level. Well his arms were tight to his chest so repositioning the weapon that way would require practically resculpting him. But ... if I cut apart the integral base and and changed the elevation of his feet he looked like he was slinking up some stairs. Thus the step and repose. You can check out his painting WIP. I had some bits left over after the CMON Not-Conan mini, and decided to use them on a Chaos Marauder. The Axe, head and uh, lobbed-off head are the bits that was left.:

I painted this guy quickly in about 3 hours tonight. He's apparently going to be a super intimidating D&D character with a heart of gold. Second pic's a bit blurry - sorry!

Another victory against my unpainted pile, this is Belegast the Bloodthirsty (the new version). I'd like to thank uber_n3rd, Jasonator and Guindyloo for the feedback I recieved in the wip thread.

Also uses the base of the Ghostly summons, 77095. Put this one together from the bits of two different throne sitting minis which I found with the figure finder. Spent ages on this one. Was very difficult for me. Thought I'd have to strip it of paint and start over again, but I can't be bothered. She's got paint in her face the thickness of my thumb soon, as I could not get the eyes and skin tone right. Given up on her now. :P

I have a bag of Secret Weapon skulls. I have tamiya clear red. All minis worked on for the spring/summer will have blood and skulls. Because I do what I want. Both from Bones I. Primed in green liner. I don't know if they will be green, but that is the color liner I used. Once again I will be attempting to use the Wappel method on both minis.
