I started painting my ringmaster Sophie last night and put a little more work in tonight. Still working on base coating. I thought I did a really great job with the eyes... then I took a look at my photo. I think the right eye (her left) needs to get redone. Colors used so far: Carnival Purple, Big Top Red, Palamino Gold, Noir Black, Caucasian Flesh

This is Inn Keeper Sophie from the Bones 4 Core, Sophie and Friends subset and was sculpted by Gene Van Horne. It was #160 in the set but is now available as SKU: 77750.

Pretty happy with this. It's the first metal anything that I've successfully painted so also pretty proud about that. Extremely happy with her face. Might go back and touch-up a few spots. C&C welcome.

This miniature had some DRAMA associated with it. I painted her for quite a while, and then she went into a kind of miniature limbo in which I just couldn't stand any color on the sculpt. Finally I ended up dunking her in the Simple Green and leaving her there for a week. The paint came off, but strangely the bones sculpt was dyed a strange orange color and its texture changed. It got really, really soft... almost floppy. ...but eventually I got the fig to take a brown basecoat, and the rest of the painting process went off without much of a hitch, except the OSL. The figure was so weirdly soft that drybrushing made it wobble. So her OSL is a lot lighter than I would have hoped. Anyway, here she is :-)

This one was for a facebook competition about color. The rules were, basically, don't worry about anything else but color. Do something different with color. I started with the idea of a dress palette of blue, teal, purple, and magenta. Once I had those colors in place, it was a matter of incorporating them in different areas of the model. I went with cotton candy roses and a galaxy print on the wings. The galaxy was a matter of stippling the dress colors (plus a bit of white) back and forth until the effect was convincing. Then I masked the body of the model and flicked a stiff brush at the wings to make star patterns. I then went back to the dress colors and stippling to blend them in a bit. This was a blast to paint, because I've never really done anything like this before.

As part of my goals for this year, one of them was to actually paint a Sophie - so here is my version of the 2017 ReaperCon Sophie. She was fun to paint, but was she fiddly to put together and I had to fight paint chipping all the way through. Next time I will remember to give the model a good wash before priming! So to wrap up one of my 2020 goals, I figured I would start on actually *gasp* painting a Sophie! I have no less than 3 in my stash, and I figured I would start practicing some concepts from all of my learning while I was at it.. I decided to pick the ReaperCon 2017 Sophie and since she has somewhat of an aquatic theme to her, I am going to shamelessly "borrow" some ideas from Disney...because why not... I did my usual priming routine but -THIS TIME- I added an additional directional light to reinforce a direction. Also, I have turned back to inks for some foundation work. This time incorporating Sepia, Orange, and Yellow for the wings. Glazing over the transitions established by the airbrush to set the initial values and tones. I followed up by using Reaper Burgundy Wine, Tanned Flesh and Fair Skin for the skin tones, including a bit of FW White Ink to lighten up the brightest highlights. I used Kimera Kolors magenta + White Ink and hit her lips. I might come back with a bit brighter color to hit the lip gloss sheen. I still need to work on blending the transitions between light and dark areas, and as well as obviously hit the arms and legs more. I also wanted to capture "Ariel's" aqua-emerald eyes. and I am REALLY happy how they came up this time. It doesn't hurt that this sculpt did a very good job of sculpting the eye area. So super-duper zoom to see the tiny eyes.

Presenting my first (and probably last) Sophie mini, Mermaid Sophie! Got stuck on her wings so she sat unfinished for a long while, and I never did manage to give her non-googly eyes, but overall I think she turned out decent. As always, and comments or criticisms are warmly received.

Yet another new thread! (At some point I really should think about starting a blog, or whatever the cool kids do these days, instead of cluttering up the forum with my stuff.) While it's possibly a banning offence, I've gotta admit I don't particularly care for Sophie or her various minis, but this one really leapt out at me. I may have made things extra hard for myself by fully assembling everything, but she has little, dainty feet so I was never going to be able to pin her to a cork. Started with her skin (1:1 Rosy Skin/Beastly Brown > Flesh Wash > 1:1 Rosy Skin/Beastly Brown > 1:1:1 Rosy Skin/Light Skin/Beastly Brown), I was trying to give her a tan, but I don't think it's as simple as adding brown to the skin colour, however the colour I did end up with is rather nice. It's hard to see, but she also has (slightly googly) eyes, lip and eye makeup (1:1:1:2 Rosy Skin/Light Skin/Beastly Brown/Hexed Lichen) and eyebrows (Scarlett Red), I also basecoated her hair while I had the Scarlett Red out.

#160 Sophie the succubus is Reapers mascot of sorts, and has appeared in many versions up through the years. In this KS she has this model as the serving wench, and the Chibi one. Of the other three I have no idea about the backstory, if any. Maybe they are roleplaying characters of the Reaper staff or some such? #160: I went with the same red-purple skin I used on the Chibi version. The intent of this thread is to have lots of people post WIP shots of their Bones Sophie paint jobs. Here are the minis to pick from (SKUs to be updated here soon): From Left to Right: KS2 Trollslayer Sophie 77370, KS3 Sophie the Sage 77491, KS4 Innkeeper Sophie, KS4 Small World Sophie, Sir Forscale (Note that Sir Forscale is just that, for scale. One of my favourite works: freebooter miniatures succubus. Used a "slannesh" palette, mainly purple. I'm happy with the outcome. To give it a little more impact I tried a freehand on the wings. A pretty simple one, I think it looks cool, but it could be better if I dared to try to shadow/highlight it instead of using a plain color. There is more contrast on her skin & wings; here on this photo it doesn't look good because it was a pretty intense white light and it makes it all look the same... I like to name my miniatures but I wasn't feeling creative here, so I just named her Lillith... Btw lately I've been invested on my instagram account: it's only for miniature painting works. First posted the assembled mini about a year ago to the day.... Worked on it off and on (mostly off), but am considering it done (for now ;-) )

I finished up this lovely lady last night. She was wonderfully sculpted by Bob Ridolfi. I really enjoyed the details on her and she was a lot of fun to paint. I always mean to paint a Halloween figure before Halloween but am usually too busy to actually manage it. I got this figure while at Reapercon though and decided it was meant to be, so I put aside a couple of other things to make time for her. I had a lot of technical issues with her due to my clumsiness - I dropped her THREE times which resulted in extensive repair work and having to reattach her to the pumpkin each time. There’s no indentation or any other indication for how she’s meant to be attached to the pumpkin and assembly is not my strong suit so I struggled a bit with that part. The way I have her attached leaves her foot hanging past the base by a good bit so I’ll need to build the base up on a little bit of cork, but she looked the most correct to me this way. (She is currently still sitting on top of foam tape and the craft paint bottle that I used as a holder, I just painted them black for pictures.) I was asked over on facebook how I painted the wings, so I’ll copy that info over here as well: I basecoated with MSP Black Indigo. (That’s one of this year’s Reapercon swag bag paints. I think Nightmare Black would probably be fine to use in its place.) Then I layered up using paints from Nocturna’s Imperial Purple Set. They’re Vallejo paints made for Nocturna and I highly recommend both that set and the Crimson Red set. Both sets come with little painting guides and the purple one walks you through how to do both cold purples and warm purples. I went in the warm purple direction starting from the darkest colours and layering up to the lightest. So Imperial Purple > Purple Hex > Amethyst > Witch Purple > Lipstick. Then I glazed over everything with MSP Gothic Crimson which was also a LE Reapercon paint, I think from the 2016 swag bag. (I can’t think of a replacement for that off of the top of my head but it’s a wine-maroon colour.) Then in the areas that I wanted to darken, like the transitions going back into the shadows and the backs of the wings, I glazed with the Black Indigo.

As my second mini I started the Masterbox World of Fantasy Lizard Mount/Sci-Fi girl combo (previous WIP post) but when I saw pictures of this mini online I just had to get one and drop everything else. Played Tomb Raider from the first one so this one pushes my buttons. Found one for sale and snapped it up. Assembly is finished. I didn't like the look of the Whip, so I replaced it with some braided wire. The Base I will expand to add a pit full of spikes. Can't wait to start priming/painting!

Last night I took a painting lesson from a friend who happens to have won many awards for mini painting and this year won Grand Master in Lock and Load 2018. So for the model of choice we choose to paint the Reapercon Sophie. We both painted one and this is what I ended up with. First model I have painted fully in maybe 10 years. Gothic Sophie.

So, I'm working on the Reapercon 2017 Sophie. I want to paint her to competition level, or at least to the best of my ability. I've already decided several things about her color scheme. Her dragon mate is going to be a gold dragon. This is to emphasize my primary choice for her wings and clothes, purple. Her skin is going to be utilizing the golden skin triad. The ground is going to be a red brick, going with the brick carved for it. So, here's this far. At this point, I'm blocking in primary colors for the base, since Sophie blocks several parts of the base once she's added. Advice as I go along would be appreciated. I'm going to try to update this with each step. Colors used: -09074 Palomino Gold to basecoat the dragon -09401 Dragon Red to basecoat the ground

So, being bored I went through and sorted out my Sophie collection... I know there's an 'alternate' version of the 1408, and I also skipped Bones. this is metal only. And of course, it also skips the 12" Resin version used as an award in the Reaper Masters painting competition. Did I leave any out? (Not asking if I OWN all yet. I'm still looking for one or two in the list)

Will the ReaperCon 2017 Sophie and/or any of the other ReaperCon swag bag minis be in the online store this year?

So - my next small project - I cannot keep with just one ... errrr. After having a small but nice talk with @SGHawkins09 and being sent home by the doc to cure a sickness I recently picked up, I had to decide what to do next. As all those wonderful and enthusiatic responses to my previous projects (I mean it - I never had so much response in such a short time) made it near to impossible to just sign off from the forums and disappear into the wilderness, I agreed to take on a different plan. I just grabbed into my miniature box and took some figures to paint them and get them done. And then it struck me: I am at the Reaper Forums yet I missed to paint a Reaper miniature. So I picked out ... errr - let me see ... Troll Slayer Sophie! Yay! - hey! Hooooraaay! Who the heck is Troll Slayer Sophie and when did I buy her? It seems I already started to paint her, but then decided otherwise, stripped *chuckles* her and put her away. Hm. Good point to start her all over again. As I chose her to be the figure I wanted to paint next I had to think about the color scheme I wanted to use. Well. I had no idea. I never really cared about fantasy style, so it never meant anything to me. The things I know about are modern or sci fi. I played a lot of Warhammer40k back in the days. I even wrote fanfiction stories which included the Imperial Guard and the Sisters of Battle ... ... Sisters of Battle ... hm. that could make a great colour scheme. Works well with the flesh tones and still contrasts it. And as Sophie is a demon, the demon/witch hunter theme fits her rather perfectly. I'll take it! Well then - primed her and started painting. But I am not sure - do I want to give her skin the grim dark appearance of an Adepta or a more Succubi-like appearance like ... this one: Succubus Suggestions?

Hello again, everyone! It's been a little while, but I finally have another mini to show off! If you're curious, you can check out her work-in-progress thread here. I had an absolute heart attack right as I was putting the finishing touches on the mini: I almost dropped her! I ended up catching her against my box of bases at the last second, but the force actually bent the barrel of her rifle, and cracked the paint! I think I was able to straighten it out, and there did not appear to be any chipped paint, so hopefully I am in the clear, but my heart probably just died a little... Originally, I tried to modify her to make her more of a werewolf hunter and wanted to put her on an elaborate base, but somehow that never quite came together. In the end, she just looks like a more modern Western-themed mini. Anyway, without any further ado, here she is! Thanks a bunch for looking, and I hope you like here!

Hello again everyone! Well, I'm finally back to work on another project, and this time I want to go kind of big and grand! I poured over my collection of unpainted minis for a while before finally settling on Bobby Jackson's beautiful 2014 ReaperCon Sophie, but, in the end, the Western genre just wasn't doing it for me (even though I'm actually from the West myself and often pack my own gun belt and revolver when I'm out hiking or target shooting). Consequently, I decided that, with a few tweaks to make her look a little more modern, she would make a fantastic Werewolf Hunter out on a night hunt! So, out came the green stuff! My modifications weren't all that serious, but I hope they alter the character of the mini just enough (especially when I later put a huge, very dead werewolf on the base with her!). I thought long and hard about how I wanted to paint her, and, in my mind, I continue to picture a night scene (surprise, surprise), so I am going to try to work blue-grays into every color in the whole composition. However, I don't want to mute her completely (to the point of going monochrome), so I figure she'll be standing in full moonlight such that all of her colors still show through. I also really wanted to work on my painted textures. With all that in mind, here's where she's at so far: (The wings and hair are only basecoated.) I've cleared the "get the first paint on the mini" hurtle, so let's hope that this spurs me on to paint like crazy now!

So, I've had this figure for a while and finally worked up the courage to paint it. I stated in mid-December and finished jsut after Christmas. Not in time to hang it from the tree, but it will be there next year. I wrote the names of of the family (including the rabbits), bu some of the names were too long, so I tried to give the impression that the list was folded over with the letter continuing on the backside.

First paint, any advice would be appreciated :) lighting and picture taking is very poor
