A friend of mine who plays D&D said she had a Tiefling character that was unpainted. "Unpainted? You take your character to your game unpainted? GIVE ME THAT!" That's a sin knowing I like to paint and you're walking around with an unpainted mini. I asked her for the specifics she'd want. She told me silver hair, orange eyes, red skin, and bone colored horns. With that I went to work. Not sure I'm in love with my colors on this one. I'm also unsure if the red skin comes off as red. I used red as the base and then highlighted up with beige red. Purple and green felt strong, but ok to use together. Let me know.

Hello All, Here is a recently completed 77054 "Galladon, Human Wizard". I did have to make changes to the staff. I could not straighten it out by any means to my satisfaction. So, I cut off the original staff, drilled a hole in his hand and replaced the Bones bendy plastic staff with a brass rod. I cut off the bottom and top of the plastic staff, pinned the parts to the brass rod and there you go. Thank you for looking.

Hello everybody on the penultimate day of the Reaper Bones 6 Kickstarter! So here's another figure I've been sitting on for a while, painted it I think already a couple years back but never posted or showed it off because he wasn't yet available. Well he was recently released over at Ral Partha Legacy, so it's time to show him off! Back in the eighties, if I recall correctly, Tom Meier sculpted a whole bunch of troglodytes, I think with the Ral Partha/Citadel collaboration back then, and when Ral Partha Legacy had one of their Kickstarters, they re-released those older figures. A little bit later Tom Meier sculpted this little fellow up, a sorcerer/priest/leader for whatever group of trogs you might end up gathering. He has a pretty long base so he got stuck on one of their mount bases. and kind of funny, now that I start thinking about it, I've been using the only other Partha Troglodyte that I've painted as my avatar: I might want to change that, I don't feel like an ugly lizard.......

This is the “sorcerer” from the Grenadier Wizards box set, circa 1980. As with most of my minis from this set, he was sand blasted a long time ago, which significantly eroded some detail. Trying to stay away from the usual wizards’ blues and blacks, i went with white. The orb he was holding was a challenge. I’ve not seen how to paint a proper crystal ball, so i went with reflected earth and sky.

This mini was super challenging for me, but also very fun to paint! :D

So while I was shopping at Ral Partha Europe (not the same as Ral Partha), I spotted some figures from Das Schwarze Auge which looked kind of nice in an Old School sort of way. Das Schwarze Auge was apparently Germany's answer to D&D in the 1980s. It was (might still be) quite popular there. I don't know the history of the figures. Anyhow, this is Das Schwarze Auge 15500B, "Female Sorcerer". I started this figure a while back, keeping it at the back of my painting table and adding bits as I painted other things. All paints used are Golden Matte Fluid Acrylics. Color mixes are (usually) noted, but not exact ratios. Questions are welcomed and I will try to answer them. Critiques are appreciated. This is the way I usually start miniature figures: Lightly primed with Titanium White, then when that is dry, washing it over with Burnt Umber. Burnt Umber is a dark, transparent pigment that settles into crannies when thinned down and shows the details very well. It also gives a nice warm undertone to later paint layers. I already painted her face before I took a picture. Oh, and I left the orb on her staff just primed white because that will make it look more glowing when I paint it later.

This guy was a wild ride, at one point the shading and blending was way off. Blending and shading are two thins I’m working on most so in the end it was good to have to dial him back. Still not fully pleased with the back of him, but he did teach me a lot.

I had paint day today and wanted to paint something I could finish pretty quickly since I will be leaving for vacation. I chose the mouseling sorcerer. Had some fun with him! Here is Dumble Doormouse!

This is a vintage mini, Grenadier Dragonman Sorcerer, I got it from a BOGW a few years ago. I will use him as a Demon Officer in my Children of the Grave army, because I think he looks a bit like a classic Demon. Hello! I picked up the Bones version of Corim the Kestrel, Gnome Sorcerer at Origins, and his nose is flattened compared to photos of the metal version. I have found one photo of another Corim and it looks like his nose is squashed in that one, too. I'm assuming this is a casting flaw, and not an intentional feature. Do all of the Bones version of Corim have a squashed shnozz? I know the days of gnomes with enormous noses are well past, but poor Corim should have at least some nose to speak of.

So.... have you ever started something you thought looked cool as hell... then way into it you just go "$&@% balls!!!"? Kinda what i'm feelin for this piece. Its my third and for a d&d campaign. its basically supposed to be a dark elf sorcerrer but since my elf wizard mini I had on hand at the time was ... well defective on arrival. I figured it was close enough and i'd swap him in (hence my attempt at a fire sword to give any indication of the fire heavy wizard i actually am playing). I primed in dark grey which is what i had at the time. (wish i'd waited for black for this color scheme) found out gun metal sucks on grey... first "meh". Wanted the red to be a bit more catchy so mixed it with metallic silver....wasnt using wet palette at begining so the paint frequently dried and subsequent batches werent always same...so now I almost get the feel this guys going glam..... second "Meh". Other player uses an elf but a ranger, I wanted this guy a paler tone but it just seems to close to the hair I'd done.... third "MEH". At this point i dont think I even like the model really. Think I was rushing to make the weekend dead line to have the three minis done with this being the last one.... any thoughts to possibly save this one from the green bath of shame? (at this point I'd rather play one of my spiders)

Here is the Dragonborn Sorceress from Oathsworn Miniatures for "Heroines in Sensible Shoes" Kickstarter as Mutilated, I mean Painted by me. I tried to make a kind of Burn Scar Effect and Failed dismally I admit. I do like how the Torch Flame came out though. And now that I think on it, I should have posted this in the Work in Progress section, too. GF

Yes, Jafar has an evil twin. He decided that "phenomenal cosmic power but itty bitty living space" wasn't his thing so he decided to go a different route to achieve his fame and fortune. His name is Aziz and he has been working on ways to call forth the dead. I am running an Egyptian based Earthdawn game and realized I paint lots of pretty girls and hardly have any guys (good or bad) even though I do buy males. So, for the past couple weeks I have been working on all male figures - mummies, merchants, a cat...hey, it's a boy cat!, and Aziz. Now I am trying to get everything on bases. So, I had considered putting Aziz on a desert base or a temple floor base but I didn't have what I was looking for so went searching through a friend's box of goodies. He tossed me this base and said "Here ya go, make it lava." Well, I didn't "see" lava when I looked at him but thought I could do something to match the green of the flame coming from the skull. I then had the idea of a hand reaching out of the....goo?....slime?....stuff? So, we started digging through the rest of his stuff and found some arms and heads (also bodies but I didn't want the whole thing) so I chose what I wanted and went to work on his base. I also used Chaoswolf's tutorial on making stringy blood to make dripping goo off the zombie guy's hand. Pretty pleased with how it turned out! As for the pictures, the green is bright (Valejo Fluorescent Green) but not quite as bright as the pictures make it look. In the base there is actually some yellow and white swirled in and then I mixed some green ink with realistic water and poured that over everything. You can't really see any of the details in the photos. I might try different photos with lights angled differently or something. Anyway, here he is! Questions, comments, critiques welcome and encouraged!

Special Edition miniature (ReaperCon 2015), sculpted by Bobby Jackson. I was honestly not a huge fan of the sculpt, but I felt like it would be a good fit for what my partner wanted. There are lots of wavy cloth bits to paint, which are always fun. In the end, I was actually kind of sad to let her go, and I might have to reuse this color scheme in the future. The base of the blue is MSP Bones HD Tropical Blue, and the green is PP Poison Green up to MSP Moth Green. Originally painted for the Summer Miniature Exchange, but my partner disappeared and I never heard whether she arrived.

This is the model I intend on using for "Rosubian" the sorcerer for my Song of Blades and Heroes warband. He is so much fun, and I'm very happy with him. The basing is liquitex matte medium (for the lava) which was painted, cork and then Golden Blended fibers for the top of the base.

I have chosen the sorcerer Lamann to be my next victim to splash some paint on. I got to use Reaper's Grey Primer 9299 for the first time. I love it so much over the Vallejo Surface Primer. The Vallejo primer seems kinda watery to me compared to the Reaper primer. Also Vallejo's primer bubbled up on me a lot when I would use it. This is the first of Reaper's primers that I've tried. I have the black and the white and I hope I love them as much as this one. I laid down a few basecoats while at a friend's place Friday and this is as far as I've gotten so far. I used MSP Bones Oceanic Blue 9418 for his robes, MSP Bones Styx Purple 9423 for his tabards (not sure what you call them really), and MSP Woodstain Brown 9160 for the staff. I'm planning on getting the rest of the basecoats down tomorrow. It looks to be a busy weekend so I don't think I'll get much done then.

Zed, the Gnome Bard Extraordinaire! He has the gift of gab,and a quick wit! If he can't talk his way out of trouble, a quick illusion or two, and POOF! he's gone like the wind! This was my first real attempt at OSL. Overall, I think it came out pretty good. Obviously I have some work to do on getting right. However, when I sent the WIP pick to my buddy I was painting it for, he flipped! He thought it was amazing, so I decided to call it. In the picture, I can see where I may have lightened it a little too much. I am still happy with the way he turned out, being my first real attempt at something like this. I hope you enjoy him as much as I did painting him! I give you, Corim Kestrel as ZED THE EXTRAORDINAIRE!! And as always, CC is welcomed and appreciated! CAH
