  1. Below is my spring exchange sent to Fanguard "the god of exchanges" so the pressure was on. he wanted something,, and I quote "Maybe something inspired by "Fairy Tail" the anime/manga" So after doing some research and watching a number of Anime shorts online, I selected one of the main characters to emulate along with a background character. Of course I did not choose one of the "good" "guys", instead I went for one of the bad girls! Using 60129: Chelaxian Infernal Binder as the mini I give you Minerva Orlando of the Sabertooth guild! I tried to imitate he
  2. I have an idea to paint a mini in really dark red, dark enough that the colors I've used as shades in the past would count as midtones or even highlights. This of course calls for a test subject. Enter poor Juliette, she of the miscast face and both hands. I was experimenting with the highlights a bit, but ended up with something that looked off. To correct for this I glazed over with red ink, which shifted the color back but made her a bit shiny. That's fine for tabletop I suppose since she'll get dullcote eventually, but is usually something I try to avoid. And the obligatory fa
  3. Well, finished this last night. There is a WIP thread, but honestly there's hardly any difference between those shots and these, except some work on the lips. And these are less blurry. I mainly wanted to paint this miniature to experiment with painting blue skin. The skin is Formula P3 Trollblood base, with varying amounts of Reaper Pure White added. It took for or five layers, finishing up with some tiny lines of pure white on the highlights. Reaper Witchcraft Purple featured prominently also, especially in her hair. Speaking of which, the camera has totally fail
  4. For those that have followed along with my "All Bones About It" blog, where I'm chronicling my effort to paint all the Bones 1 Kickstarter figures I purchased, I was happy today to have reached the 200th figure out of the 266 that I am painting from Bones 1. It feels good to hit another milestone on this adventure! It seems all down hill from here, with only 66 figures left to go. With some real determination I think I can get it done by the end of the year. Currently I'm working on the Dark Elves set, and this past week I completed Liela, Dark Elf Wizard, from that set. I did a qu
  5. Man I have really been slacking on getting these minis posted. Last one for tonight, I promise. Enjoy edit: So I have to admit I got a little exited playing with new toys last night and rushed the picture process. But I just wasn't happy with how dark they turned out. After another read through of the Miniatures Photography 101 I think I did a much better job today. Now You can see all the detail good and bad! Still my favorite. Any tips on painting orbs?
  6. Another that I have been working on. Enjoy edit: So I have to admit I got a little exited playing with new toys last night and rushed the picture process. But I just wasn't happy with how dark they turned out. After another read through of the Miniatures Photography 101 I think I did a much better job today. Now You can see all the detail good and bad! I had some focusing issues trying to get them both in one shot, so I have a shot of each instead.
  7. Finished these tonight. I think I've posted the vampire before, but I based her, so that's new. Now I am just missing three dregs, and the warband is ready to play:
  8. I was fairly happy with this one until I took photos. See that I have managed to clot the paint a little much. Don't want to fiddle with her anymore though. The little tree is made from a dried grape-wine. :/
  9. I felt like painting pink and trying to line in brown, instead of my usual black, so the discontinued Juliette became my test subject. I think I prefer lining with black The right side of Juliette's face is quite a mess, both her hands have issues, and there were several other rough spots on the model. But rejoice, Reaper are making new molds, so I am thinking an improved Bones Juliette will be re-released sometime.
  10. These are two figures I did for table top. I started Lysette awhile back before I learned a different way to do eyes. When I picked her back up, I decided not to redo the eyes so she has a "deer in the headlights" look about her. I tried several different things on her - glazing, a little "what happens if I add purple and yellow to her red hair?", and a touch of two brush blending. Alastriel also got to be a guinea pig. She got my first dark skin tone, two brush blending, and freehand. It was a good lesson in what worked and what didn't and how to improve on the next one. Alastriel isn't b
  11. Hi, first post. I'm going to start posting pics of my Reaper miniatures here. I'll start with Gossamer.
  12. I've been a fan of this mini since the first time I saw it but still it took me some time to buy it, and almost even more time to gather up the courage to paint it. It didn't quite end up the way I wanted it to (I don't have that good brush control) but still it turned out kind of nice.
  13. I've really been on an OSL (Object Source Lighting) kick lately. Here's another go with the Bones version of Alastriel.
  14. Got this cute little fellow in the mail the other day. Never painted anything this big, and wanted to show my progress and experiences. First I glued him together. Was really surprised about the fact that it wasn't actually necessary to use glue, yet I did it just in case. Then applied some green stuff in the cracks. The black stain on the base is me testing the rumor about washes not sticking to bones. And that was true. Luckily the rumor about mixing dish soap in the paint, to fix it, was also true. Never painted with dish soap before, so that was.. interesting. So then I covere
  15. So, I looked at this sculpt and thought to myself, "My, that's a lot of flat, undetailed space on this sculpt. I should do something fun with it." I need to get something better than my cell phone for these shots. There's metallic gold patterning as well, but it doesn't show up D: Now to work more on my patterned-fabric Yephima...
  16. Painting is taking me longer and longer now, I remember when it only took an evening up to a week . Now two weeks to finish a model. Not sure why I am getting slower. Currently painting Miniatures for the Pathfinder Adventure card game to use in place of their picture cards on the table. I hope this character gets picked and I did not just paint her to sit in a box. lol. Anyway hope you enjoy my version of Seoni. :)
  17. Another that bridged the new year. Werner Klocke's Hyrekia, Sorceress. She turned out rather poorly. I got her second hand, and she'd already been primed. There were some defects in the primer, apparently, that really showed up with the paint. Add that to my natural problems, and, well, yeah. Really should've green-stuff'd her all the way down. But didn't. She also looks weirdly eyeless in the photo of her face. I don't do eyes beyond some dotting of sorts, but she looks like one of those thingies out of a Robert Jordan book. So yeah. Grabbed her and started painting because I wanted to pa
  18. Seoni is so hot. I painted this after taking a short hiatus, she still turned out ok though i think.
  19. One of my December painting goals was to paint a miniature from a manufacturer that I hadn't yet painted anything from. Looking through my stockpile of 20 miniatures I chose Phoenicia, an arcane spellcaster from Guild of Harmony. While I was at it, I decided to take care of another painting goal - working on glow effects. The stone she is standing on already has some engravings, but for a little something more I reached into my Bag o Crap and pulled out one of the 25mm bases that had some arcane looking runes already carved on. Now that she's pretty well done I can say that my main com
  20. This is Lenore from Hasslefree Miniatures. I should thin my paints more since the finish is a bit blotchy but overall I'm quite pleased with the outcome. It's a great miniature that was easy to paint. Linked for nudity: Front Side
  21. Here is a KS1 Bones Juliette. I stuck to only paints from LTPK2 on the figure to practice more on the colors and techniques. Thanks for viewing.
  22. Ok here is my attempt to recreate Laurana from the LTPK2 using the LTPK2 WIP Thread. Thanks to all who posted. Thanks for Viewing
  23. Finally finished Lysette (Bones 77076), who were meant to enter the beauty pageant, but she got lost on my work table... Also finished Lindir (Bones 77021) at last, he was lost on that same workbench for about 9 months...
  24. This model has been slowly working its way around my Shelf of Shame since she arrived, the biggest problem was that the tip of her actual wand broke off and disappeared into my floor. It took me a good while just to get putty to attempt to do anything about that, and you see the sad results below. Then came the problem of deciding on a colour scheme for her, eventually I settled on the golden hair and pale skin with the black captain's coat but still didn't have a colour for anything else except her horns. Eventually I saw one of the female pirates in the inspiration gallery with white pan
  25. Painted for use as a player character in DnD.
