Went a bit old-school. I always loved these minis back in the day, but only actually bought some last year.

So, i don't know if this is okay or not, but i wanted to share them. I had never painted any warhammer stuff. Both because of the cost and the fear of getting caught up in that universe. Well... it started. I bought my first set of intercessors back in January, but never touched them because i just didn't feel able to take them on. There's some amazing painters who do these and i always felt inadequate. Gotta start somewhere though. I started watching a ton of videos on them and put some ideas together. Here's my first ever 5 painted. I tried to test two paint schemes green and blue. I think they both came out great. having never got into these before, i now see the reason people like these so much. Very fun but very time consuming. Would love your feedback.

Hi Gang, Been a while... this project took some time. The shoulder and knee pads were a lot of "cut and paste" (read kitbash). This isn't strictly the "Emperor's" lore, but I'm just a painter so I do whatever I like. I've also been a bit obsessed with fluorescent paint lately, and the plasma gun got the full treatment. In the end I didn't try pushing this project further as I was just running out of gas. Perhaps I could have left it on the "shelf of aging" for a while and come back to it, but in the end they made a sweet squad that I'm pleased with. See the sides, back and all that. Here. I thought it would be cool to show off an older model I painted, this one is a vintage Space Marine Captain, painted in the colours of my own Chapter, the Sons of Poseidon. Comments and criticisms always wanted, let me know what you think! The model was painted using Army painter paints.

As I mentioned in the thread on the Captain with Terminator Honours, here is the best painted Dreadnaught I have done, the trident symbol on the front is the chapter insignia. Let me know what you think!

Back in the "olden days" when I played 40k second edition, our game group played a lot of multi player games, and as a result, we sort of had a meta-game RPG going on with our Space Marine Chapters. Thanks to the things that happened during the games, our chapters had allies and alliances and rivalries and foes. Sometimes, to resolve disputes, we would hold a council meeting of the Chapters so grievances could be aired, agreements come to and consequences doled out. In these council meetings, each chapter got a vote. But a problem emerged - some players had multiple chapters of their own design, and multiple players were playing official GW chapters, which meant that some people had multiple votes, while others had to share. The solution we came up with was that for council votes, a chapter could be represented by a single fully painted miniature. And so most of us painted up three or four minis as our vote "tokens". And here are mine from the 90s: The guy on the left is one of my Marines Errant, which was my primary Chapter. The black and yellow guy is one of my Blast Hornets, a chapter that was declared renegade as the result of one of these council meetings. The two on the left are my voting minis, from the Fire Angels and Fire Hawks chapters. Just before I moved away, we had a big council meeting coming up, and I hatched a dastardly plan. I bought two boxes of the cheapest Space Marines I could, and planned to paint up twenty more chapters, thus ensuring I could rule final vote. This was also going to be my parting gift - I was going to give each of the other players two of the minis. Well, I didn't manage to do more than get those minis primed. I recently found that box of primed Space Marines, and decided to see how well I could paint one of my Marines Errant 20+ years later, using Reaper's MSPs. And then I decided I wanted to finally finish the project Here are the first six. On the left is a Marines Errant, and on the right is a Salamander - the other four I just painted up and threw decals on. I'll have to come up with chapter names for them later.

So I figured I'd just start a WIP thread, rather than clutter up the forum with unnecessary extras. I hate disorder (although you wouldn't be able to tell that from looking at my workspace! LOL) This week's been mostly working on Gremlins from Malifaux, I have Somer, Slophaulers and Skeeters almost done. Still waiting on flying stand order to come in for Skeeters. Somer's the Bayou Boss, and I have other Bayou Gremlins in my pile of to-be-done but we'll see how long it takes me to get to them. Betrayal at Calth (BAC) is a GW box set of Space Marines that's both a board game and a kind of starter set for Horus Heresy 30k (which takes place before the Warhammer 40k sci fi - just for those who don't follow this). My LGS is doing an escalation league for 30k, and is running a contest for painting the box set. it's about 38 miniatures I think. Really hoping I win, even if I don't play the game because the prize is a free Horus Heresy book of our choice And I love books, even more than I love models so books about models... I'm THERE! Anyway here's my pics (except for the BAC which is still currently in its box lol) ^^ Slophaulers - because they, wait for it, haul slop Just finishing base really on these guys Somer - almost done, working on base now and just need cloth highlighted I think ^^ Skeeters (mosquitos) - trying out colour scheme, pretty much still basecoating although I did highlight their backs, wings and eyes (which still need glaze) Also trying to work on getting more lighting in my room for my light box :( so maybe my pictures will come out better =/ C&C is always welcome :) It helps me get better!

So, uh, these are actual actual Space Marines from Citadel. I got a little sprue of them at Free Comics Day a year or two ago. The date on the sprue said 2005, so perhaps they are obsolete models. I had plans to do them up oddly, maybe sparkly purple or something, but then someone running a game I'm in said "Hey, do you have any space marines?" So I said yes and painted them up bang-up average for Space Marines, going by random images I Googled. Well, almost. The upside-down omega logo kind of insulted my linguistic sensibilities. So I painted one with an upside-down omega, one with an upside-down lambda (symbol of LGBT rights), and one with an upside-down omicron (joke). There's a little tiny bit of NMM gold on their can't-lift-their-shoulders-armor-pieces.

An actually local FLGS has opened in my home town. Being a pretty small town, the main things going on seem to be Magic and 40K. Not having a 40K army I had a look around and decided I liked the Horus Heresy marines. Problem is, Marines are a bit of a blank canvas and I don't have an artists eye for color so I tossed some different paints on a couple figs. The one I liked the best was based on Marine Teal. I think the basic color scheme is sound but I have some questions about some of the accessories. I'm not sure what to do with the bolter. I think more teal and brass would be too much but other things I've tried didn't quite work. The blue on it now isn't bad but I think it could be better. I did the lava base mostly because I wanted an excuse to use the Basius pads I got from their Kickstarter. From what I remember from the Jen & Ann's DVD section on color theory the warm colors might bring too much focus from the mini itself? Any thoughts on that?

Finished the squad for my November Hobby Goals. Been painting like crazy... Just tabletop and though I cut a couple corners, I'm happy with how they came out and they match the ones I painted last year so that's good too (writing down recipes and schemes is a wonderful thing!). Thanks for looking.

Finally got off my tush and did some quick bases for my fabulous space marines. Looking at them now I think the skulls on the backpacks should be silver. But for now I think I'm going to call them done-enough and move on. I'm planning to do more in equally-fabulous colours so if anyone has suggestions for improvements on the next batch I'd love to hear it.

With my Goblin Launcher thread stalled for now, I thought I'd start another one. We're still in the Grim Darkness of the future though. These are two of my Space Marines from the Deathwatch: Overkill set. I'm still re-imaginging them as Space Knights though, so I don't have to deal with official colour schemes and other related nonsense. These two are now The Knight of Wolves (Mohawk Guy) and The Knight of Remembrance (Bald Guy). Made a start on their heads this morning:- Bald Guy has a basecoat of 1:1 Vallejo Dwarf Flesh/Vallejo Wolf Grey and a Fleshshade Wash. Mohawk Guy has a basecoat of 1:1 Dwarf Flesh/Vallejo Rosy Flesh and a Fleshshade Wash.

Studs for the Stud Throne! LEGO Warhammer 40k

My next batch. I think the freehand's getting better, a bit. I tried to get a little fancier with the roman numerals, didn't like it as well. But now on to the next five!

This is one of the five in the set, which I've been working on in my WIP thread. he's my test dummy for the theme, which is Luna Wolves. A white/black colour scheme which I converted to be light grey and black instead. I've always liked the Luna Wolves, in the stories from Horus Heresy, before they fractured into Sons of Horus and loyalists, so my take on them is right before the loyal Luna Wolves know that their Primarch, Horus, turned to the dark side as it were (aka Chaos). They were dropped on Isstvan III, where they expected to meet resistance, but it was actually a ploy to get all the loyalist elements in one place. Horus then virus bombed the planet and killing off almost all of the resistance to his take over. Anyway, so, my basing is based on fairly new wreckage of an urban type area.

This figure was one I painted many years ago, and found in a box recently, beaten up and nasty. I'm sure that I'm far from the only person who as a teen decided that their metal Citadel Judge Dredd figures needed some more heavily-armoured backup and found that backup in the form of a plastic RTB01 Space Marine. After seeing the Mega-City One project going on over on Sho3box, I pulled it out and thought to myself that I should repaint it. Last weekend, Marouda selected it as a figure for me to finish off to clear the paint desk, and so I set to the task. Kind of a complete repaint, and kind of an overpaint. The eye lenses are original, as is the numeral on the power fist. Everything else used the original paint as the base coat, and added modern highlighting and shading. The exception is the gold work, which was originally painted a bright yellow, and was simply plain. I decided to go for metallics, and freehand a MC-1 Eagle of Justice onto the pad. Because I can. I also stuck him onto a 32mm base, because apparently I'm also doing that now. There's a second one of these guys as well. Unfortunately he's in the kind of shape that C-3PO was in about three quarters of the way through The Empire Strikes Back, so he'll require a bit more work in order to recover. One day I'll use him in Judge Dredd games, and also as an Imperial Adeptus Arbite in 40k/Rogue Trader/Deathwatch/etc. And in games like Frag!

A friend asked me to paint this unit for his girlfriend. I don't paint anything but fantasy (so I hated the request). By the time I was finished, I never wanted to see another "space marine" in my whole life. I have seen them painted and they are beautiful...but they are not my cup of tea. I love to see the work of painters who love to paint them.
