One of the things I've been struggling with as I assemble my hoards of D&D minis is getting wolves. High-quality, diverse wolf sculpts are actually pretty hard to find, I'm finding - I want a good-sized pack, and while I love Reaper's three-wolf pack in pewter, they're a little smol and gentle looking for my tastes... So I've been booping around Amazon looking for something to burn a giftcard on, and I found something called the Space Wolves: Fenrisian Wolf Pack. This: They look... pretty good, and @ 20$ for 5 they're more expensive than bones but cheaper than pewter (and a steal @ GW prices!) So... has anyone seen/used these? How do they measure up next to Reaper's stuff? I don't mind if they're a little hulking, but they come with 40mm bases, so they sound pretty giant? I do love that there are 5 sculpts though - that's really, really handy, since I'd probably want a good-sized pack... If anyone has a ref. of them next to a Reaper fig, or could take one, I would love you forever~!

Hello everyone! If you haven't noticed, I kind of dropped off the face of the forum at the end of last Summer for a number of reasons! Life has a strange way of throwing more things at you than you can juggle at once, but luckily, everything's finally slowing down enough to where I can paint minis, and spend wayyyy too much time posting my meager struggles for all of you awesome Reaperites to witness. First, a few things: 1. An Apology - I'm apologizing to everyone for not getting a previous exchange done until now. I believe it was the Fall Exchange, in which I was supposed to send Marsya an exchange. Again, life snowballed and I was unable to complete the project in any sort of reasonable amount of time. However, I am happy to report that the project is complete, and should ship out tomorrow! Marsya, again, I am so very sorry it took so long to get it out to you. Hopefully I was able to knock enough brush rust off and send you something worth of the delay! I have pics so once it arrives, I'll add them to my Miscellany of Miniatures... 2. I've missed you guys! I've been lurking on and off the board over the past few months (not posting) and I love seeing how much progress everyone has made (and by comparison, how I've made no progress! LOL!) It's good to be back! SO, to that end, here's one of the latest projects. A friend of mine plays 40K... A lot... I've never played 40K and really don't know too much about it, but I figured, what they hey! So I'm going to attempt to learn how to play 40K and decided to choose the Space Wolves as my starting army. I'm not going to post all the fancy-dancy pics until I finish the "Start Collecting Space Wolves!!!" box in its entirety, but I'll probably post WIPs and ask questions here as I really have no idea what I'm trying to attempt with 40k stuff. I have the new rulebooks and the Space Wolves Codex, so there's that. I looked at GW stuff when I first started painting, but haven't looked at it since due to price,. However, I figured one set couldn't kill me. I MUST say, however, that I much prefer METAL to that finecast or whatever it's called. Anyway, here's the first two that I managed to finish, along with an experimental base. They aren't completely done in this pic as they still needed their decals on the shoulder pads and the guy on the right needs some touch-up to the rune on his helmet... which is waiting for the paint for that layer as I work on SW #3. Left-hand guy is Captain Claws. Right-hand guy doesn't have a name. #3 will be known as "Punchy." The base is the standard round base that comes with them, coated in crackle medium (or whatever it's called. I'm too lazy to get up and check) and painted with my "Earth" mixture and shaded with various liqitex inks to get that crazy green look. The snow is a combination of Secret Weapon snow effects and Army Painter, um, "snow." Or something like that... Here's a close-up of a completed Capt. Claws, sans fancy background: Anyway, please comment, critique and ask questions! I don't think I'm going to be a very good table top 40K painter as I fuss over these things too much. I think it took me a week to just get these two done so... yeah. Enjoy! -K P.S.: It looks like I took a few WIP pics of these two. If anyone's interested, I can post those and comment as well.

I know I disappeared ages ago and all, but I'm kind of back =] I've still been painting, winter just got me into a bit of a funk about it (I don't have a proper setup, I paint on my couch, so sadly I can't set up a daylight lamp), but now that the days are lengthening again, I'm starting to get back into it. So I've ended up owning two lots of Fenrisian Wolves - the first pack, I started painting as elemental sparkle wolves, haha, but I've stalled a bit with them, so I grabbed a second pack and painted them up a bit more normally... So here they are. My apologies, my mini photography is a bit rusty now. I painted up this Logan Grimnar a little while ago. He's the old metal version- from before he was moved to Resin, then later re-sculpted and put on a flying wolf drawn chariot. I'm still fond of him on foot, and the dynamic pose this mini has really works for him. Ultimately, the challenge on this mini was helping all of the various tiny details to pop, and still keep his face a strong center of interest. I think I accomplished this through my use of color (the warmest spots are on his face). I believe that my only regret here is that we didn't get a photo of the freehand on his shoulder before we mailed him off. Anyway, here he is.

Wow, been a while since I posted anything here. Been doing a lot of prep on a bunch of Space Wolves for 40K. I don't actually play, but due to a few things happening, I ended up with a bunch of space wolves. I've never painted an army before, so I thought it'd make a good project. Or a quick method of going mad. We'll see which one. This fella is intended for my FLGS's painting contest. Gonna turn it in tomorrow. This was my first go at Zenithal shading. First I primed it black, then grey at 45 degrees, then white at about 10 degrees. Pre-shades it. I then did the same with the blue-grey basecoat colors, repeating the shadow, midtone, highlight. There's a bit of a gap. I didn't assemble it quite how the instructions recommend. You're supposed to put everything together, then paint it. However, I painted it in stages. And to be able to do the zenithal, but paint the cockpit separately, I had to leave the top as a separate piece until I was done. It's not showing really well here, but I did some heat staining effects on the side guns there. I also added a slight "glow" effect to the runes. It doesn't really show here, but it looks okay in person. Basically just a white wash, with a blue glaze over it. You can kind of see the heat staining effect on the engines here. I don't think I'll actually win the contest, but I think it's one of the best things I've painted, so I'm glad I decided to enter. One good thing about these contests is that it's really inspired me to pick up the brush.
