  1. I started out with an Egyptian Undead faction in my Lost World but it didn't feel right. http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/69308-lost-world-project-glitterwolf-paints-coldblooded-creatures-and-conquistadores/ After some good advice from @malefactus I decided to move the Eygptians to their own thread. The first one is my Mummy Captain. Now working on a Grenadier Undead Rhino Captive Carrier with a Bones Priestess as Crew
  2. First April mini with colors shamelessly stolen from @Pochi's stunning work on this mini. Doing a little research into the model it turns out that Julie Guthrie is responsible for an absolute ton of my favorite sculpts and this was no exception!
  3. Archvillain Miniatures 3D file, printed on my Elegoo Mars. Temple is from Archvillain Egyptian Bases pack. The other two ruin pieces are from Greenstuffworld Egyptian Ruins. Sand is Vallejo Desert Sand. Part of my Shifting Sands Project. WIP here: https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/79372-shifting-sands-glitterwolf-paints-egyptian-undead/page/18/#comments The Crusaders thought they were winning, the unholy forces of the ancient Undead were almost defeated and they could taste victory. Too late Grandmaster Joseph noticed the Priest on a large sanddune behind the Undead's ranks, he was performing some unholy ritual for sure! Joseph spurred his Knights on, but he was too late, the Priest uttered the final words of power and then the creature appeared. It swooped down from the sky, it's metallic wings reflecting the sunlight and blinding his men, and then it landed amidst his Army, footmen were trampled, it's cruel blades hacked through the ranks of his Knights. A heavy tail knocked Grandmaster Joseph from his steed. Lying on his back he looked into the Sun, a final prayer on his lips when he saw the creature approaching, a glimps of what was once a woman's face and then all went black.
  4. This is a 3D printed miniature from Rocketpig Miniatures which I printed on the Elegoo Mars. Part of my Shifting Sands Project. WIP Here: https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/79372-shifting-sands-glitterwolf-paints-egyptian-undead/ What did you say? You don't know the answer to my riddle? How unfortunate...!
  5. I got this one printed by Flying Goat Creations. Thx @ratsmitglied It's part of my Shifting Sands Project WIP here: https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/79372-shifting-sands-glitterwolf-paints-egyptian-undead/page/14/#comments I had lots of fun painting her. Hope you like her.
  6. I'll need a Pegasus soon for one of the PCs in the D&D 5e campaign I run for my son and his high school friends. The metal Reaper one is lovely, but IMO, too fragile for use with a bunch of rambunctious teens. I was looking around for some options when I saw the Bones Sphinx, and figured her wings would "bolt" onto Silverhorn the Unicorn fairly easily. So here is my attempt to create my own Bones Pegasus, since I can't wait for Bones 5 to deliver me one: I cut off Silverhorn's horn (and set it aside for later), and drilled two holes in the shoulders. I took the Sphinx's wings, and cut off the tabs, then shaped them best I could to fit the shoulder profiles of Silverhorn, before drilling a hole to pin them with. Next up is glue and green stuff. I have a feeling he's going to droop over time. Not sure if I'm going to attempt to pin his back legs(s), but at a minimum, I'll probably glue him to a 50mm base to keep him upright, even if he droops.
  7. So I've been painting a lot of character models and low level monsters lately, so I decided to tackle a large monster. I pulled out the bag with Bones manticore, chimera and sphinx and lost my mind, deciding to paint all three. Then I acquired the Bones Black efreeti and could not resist painting her as well. First up the chimera 77257. I should have taken another photo of the front of the model from a higher angle so that you could see the eyes of the dragon head but I was too lazy. I did not notice the blob of white paint until I uploaded the file. Isn't that how it goes? Maybe I'll get around to fixing it, but I'm already plotting what to paint first from Bones 4. I spent all that time painting the striations on the wings and didn't do any highlighting on the belly scales of the dragon, either. Manticore 77577. I have another, older manticore model (I know, shocking) from Grenadier that I painted with the more traditional dark bat wings. I wanted something different and I have been itching to try an idea I had for bright new copper, like a shiny new penny. I painted the wings and scales with Reaper MSP Coppery Orange and then over painted the webbing on the wings with the old Ral Parta Metallic Red. I like how it turned out, and Iron Wind Metals is again selling this paint, however only at conventions so far. In retrospect brass dragon wings would have been better, but I can always buy another one... Oh, and this model is the one I used the Culture Hustle Black 2.0 as a primer on the base. No difference in performance from Reaper MSP Black Primer. Sphinx 77576. Not much to say about her except be careful when trimming the mold lines on the ears; I lopped off half of the left ear and had to do reconstructive surgery. I really like the sculpting on the wings and the base is a really neat small bit of terrain. The nice thing about Bones is that they are cheap enough to by them for just parts. And finally the efreeti 44003. My color scheme was heavily inspired by (shameless stolen from) Wren's magnificent work on the store display model. You can't improve on perfection. If anyone is interested in boring technical details I did something different with the skin tones for this one. I wanted the bright red skin to appear almost like it was glowing, as befits a fire spirit. I primed the model in black and then painted the skin with a burnt sienna color. I then did my first layer of high lights with Reaper MSP Pumpkin Orange (because it was the first orange I found in my bin), and then the second high light with an ocher yellow, and the final high lights with a pale yellow, Ral Partha Blonde as it turned out. Once that had dried I over-painted the entire area with Ral Partha (sorry, IWM) Red. One of the interesting properties of the IWM paints is that they are rather translucent. This gave me fits for years back in the 80's when I first acquired them as RP paints at Gen Con; I paint for table top and prefer my paint to be opaque for quick coverage. However I slowly learned that I could get pretty smooth transitions with the RP paints by applying several layers of the paint in smaller and smaller areas. It also works pretty well out of the pot for glazing over a pre-shaded area. Overall I'm happy with the result. The cloth was painted with a burnt sienna, high lighted with MSP Runic Purple, edged with MSP BCA Pink and glazed with MSP Clear Magenta. For the sword blades I was going for obsidian; seemed appropriate for a fire creature. Painted dark gray, edged in white, and glazed with black ink. I hope you like them and thanks for looking. I wonder if I can call in sick tomorrow to stay home and paint...
  8. Okay, I promise I'll finish one of these threads one day. But in the meantime I've started painting the Bones Sphinx. I've already painted up the wings, I've just got a few little things to do. I do want to thank @Pochi for the inspiration for the wings. Photos:
  9. On Mondays, I've been playing in a homebrew 5e campaign at my FLGS. Amongst a mostly-monstrous party (several tabaxi, a kenku, firbolg, and centaur) I decided to play a sphynx - or more accurately, an Aarakocra sorcerer with two levels of rogue using the fire-Draconic Bloodline, reskinned as a catgirl-style sphynx. I've been in need of a mini, but it turns out, medium-sized sphinxes are hard to find, and lion-sorceress tabaxi minis to graft wings onto are also hard to find - until today! At paint day today, I grabbed a great couple finds out of a huge case of minis that someone had dropped off for sale, including one that's perfect for this character: the Grenadier Sphinx from their lead box set "Monsters of Mythology". Now, this is a tiny figure, for a monster. Her crouched position makes her look even smaller - next to a human Reaper mini, though, you can actually see that she's perfectly to scale in terms of an ordinary person. The wings are incredible - easily the best I've seen on a mini of that period (opinions may vary) in terms of looking like realistic wings. It took about two and a half hours to paint and base her - I GS'd her at the shop around three, got home around eight, grabbed a shower, and just banged her out, since I wanted her ready for Monday and I'm working 10AM-12PM tomorrow... Painted a basecoat of Intense Brown on the wings, and Golden Blonde for the whole body. Then I did the face - nothing too fancy, though the lips are redder in person; just some Kohl makeup. Added the bars on the wings, then coated the whole thing in Game Color's Umber wash - indiscriminantly on the wings, and just to shade on the body. Touched up the highlights on the body, then highlighted the bars on the wings again, added the hair and shading on the throat (Game Color's Flesh Shade) and based it up with some split glass and Battlefield XP Highland Tufts. Gotta say, she was a lot of fun to paint, and I look forward to playing her on Monday! A couple folks in the group love monstrous female minis, so she's going to be a great surprise, and she fits the character perfectly! 10/10 would recommend getting one, if you can!
  10. Last monster I need for a Special campaign I am running right now. I really like this mini. She really came out great in the bones material. I only wish her base were a bit bigger. The “arches” of the building she is on are clearly made for gnome children, not adult humans.
  11. This project stemmed from two things, first off I sent Siri a dragon a while back on a whim since we were talking about Space Dragons and she painted him up and surprised me by sending it back to me! Secondly, there was an announcement made from Heisler and Clever Crow about allowing "Team" entries into the ReaperCon 2015 Painting Contest. I put it out to Siri that we could do a Team Diorama that brings the Space Dragon (SD) into contact with far away ancient civilizations, she loved the idea and we ended up with the plan to order figures. The scene we came up with would depict a portal that the SD coming through with a friend or two and visiting (unannounced) ancient Egypt. A surprised priestess and her guardian sphinx are also part of the plan going forward. Figures included: Egyptians - 02734: Egyptian Statue Anubis - Decoration (WIP W/ SIRI) 02928: Sobek Statue - Decoration (WIP W/ SIRI) 03007: Egyptian Cat Statue - Decoration (WIP W/ SIRI) 03008: Egyptian Jackal Statue - Decoration (WIP W/ SIRI) 03506: Egyptian Priestess and Baboon (baboon not in scene) - Surprised by unexpected visitors (WIP W/ SIRI) 14256: Sphinx, Nefsokar Monster - Protector of the Priestess (RECEIVED - SENDING TO SIRI SOON) Visitors - 77108: Shadow Dragon - The one, the only SPACE DRAGON!!! I'll remove broccoli and base onto the diorama itself. (FINISHED, see below) 02637: Marcus Starsong - Will probably remove his staff, stands to the side of Kimberlee. (WIP W/ SIRI) 02391: Kimberlee the Fair - Will stand next to the SD with her hand outstretched to touch him. (WIP W/ SIRI) Other things included- Jars/Urns/Various other objects - Sculpted by Siri herself Obelisk - from the Secret Weapon Bag o' Crap, will be smoothed out and painted as sandstone with hieroglyphs upon it, situated between the statues of Anubis and Sobek. Galaxy Portal - Siri will draw it out on either canvas or plasticard (or something else that'll take the swirling galaxy nicely as freehand), I will do a small pour of water effects with realistic water to give it some shimmer and waves (think Stargate). 2 walls - one on the left will be an arch with the portal, the back wall will probably go with some ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs. The ground will be a courtyard. We know there is a lot of time before ReaperCon 2015, but this is going to be a lengthy project to get right with some things being mailed back and forth, items being ordered, and wanting to make it look contest-worthy. We won't show off the finished product until AFTER RCon though. We will both be posting our updates in this WIP thread and hope to get some great feedback (like always) from all you fine forumites out there!
