I really love the design of these guys...whoever sculpted them did a great job with the armor, in particular. My only real problem is the size. For whatever reason, they were quite scaled down compared to the other characters in the set (see the last pic for comparison between them and a Reaper mini). I'm not a huge stickler when it comes to scale, and these definitely work for the tabletop. Just kinda bugs me because I'm such a fan of the overall design.

I'm attempting to gather some squad composition questions into a single thread. From the rules: Attack squads consist of 4-6 CAV and/or Vehicles. SA: Bulky counts a model as two models when determining squad size Faction doctrines are available only if all models in a force are from the same faction During KS2, a few questions related to squad composition were answered by CAVBOSS: Q: <Reference to some force composition charts> A: ... A CAV/Vehicle squad must have 4-6 models which vary depending on what faction you are or if you choose to go non-faction (merc, pirate, corp security, etc). Bigger models that are bulky count as one model but fill two "slots" and that's were they are off a bit. Q: @CAVBoss off topic from the final push, but does that mean Bulky just limits the amount you can fit in a single squad? Meaning 2 Despots and 2 Malefactors make a legal squad taking all six slots for four models? Three Despots would be illegal since that's only three models to six slots (note: I made a mistake in my question, as the Malefactor is also bulky) A: Yes to both rules questions A few other posters have mentioned that CAVBOSS made comments at CAVCON that mixing CAV and Vehicles in an attack squad (outside of a Specialist squad?) would prevent a faction doctrine from being available. From Question 2 above, there's a slight problem with this reasoning: both the Malefactor and Despot have SA: Bulky. If you can only have 6 "slots" in a vehicle-only attack squad, there would be no legal way to field a vehicle-only attack squad for the Rach. They only have two attack vehicles and they're both bulky, so you can't get to five vehicle "slots" out of 6 with the attack task and have 4 models. The Force Manager matches the three items from the rules above, but does not match the need for four physical models, only four "slots". It enforces a six "slot" maximum by default. So, for CAVBOSS (or anyone who can clarify), could you help clarify what is required for legal squads and what is required of squad composition to use faction doctrines? Thanks!

Some guys with Halberds. Five minutes to midnite. Clicking "Post Topic" now...but will get this tagged better on a later edit. (Below...) Black Legionaries with Red Tunics These were speed paints started about 5 hours to go before the August deadline. I keep doing that. But, I guess at least I am getting to explore some fast techniques. The halberd tips have some old Ral Partha bronze on them. The red is a mix of two Reaper reds: 29802 Brilliant Red + _____________. (I can't find the second red...stay tuned.) Then both got a light overwash with some darker colors. The base of the mini got slathered in a sort of Ruddy Brown that was a custom color from RCon 2014, I mixed in a few drops of Jade Green that didn't budge the color much. Then it got a light overwash with some darker colors. The rest of the mini got fake acid-washed with a mix of Black Ink: 9208, Blue Liner: 9066, and Brown Liner: 9064. At varying degrees of density. Those are the darker colors mentioned above.

Hey ya'll, I just started working on a squad using one of Rackham's old Ragnarok boxes - 6 warriors will compose the human portion of the squad... and one Privateer Press brute will be at the center. I've already started working on the basing for the squad - nothing too fancy, I want it to look like red clay. Here are the steps I've done so far. 1. Lay down a base of terracotta milliput, with some miniature bricks set in (can't remember the company the bricks are from), chamomile tea pressed in, and tree bark pressed in. One new thing I tried was using an incredibly fine silicate for sand instead of the usual playground sand - since clay is composed of such fine silt, I thought it appropriate. Unfortunately, its fineness and (I think) its very nature as a silicate made it difficult to glue - there is less than I had hoped on the base. The guy in the center, as you may guess, is the brute. 2. Once the squad's base holes have been figured out and the groundwork done, basecoat of armory white. I went for white because I believe it will be easier to control some of the more subtle shadows with washes instead of just straight black. You can see some of the Rag guys here, too. 3. Start off with a couple think washes of red liner. Nothing is spared ;) 4. Pick out the stones (tree bark) by drybrushing heavily with Privateer Press Cryx Bane highlight, all the way up to Liquitex Titanium White (edges). This will be toned down by the clay drybrushing colors. 5. Then, I heavily drybrushed A 50-50 mix of tanned shadow and PP Skorne Red. This will be the basecoat for the Ragnarok men's skintones. 6. Add palomino gold and continue to drybrush, lightening pressure. 7. Add bleached bone, lighten to pure bleached bone. Touch up rocks. 8. Current state: For now, the goal is to keep touching up the base, adding interest with more washes (dark reds, greens, yellows, and purples - complements), and adding terrain features (bushes, etc) I'll be in touch soon! As always, comments and especially criticisms are welcomed. My paint hand is rusty.
