It has been a dark time for the Galactic Empire. Strong meta for the other factions have lead to few victories, and the faith of many Imperial commanders had been tested. But now, when all seemed lost, and new RRG has emerged. Unit costs have decreased. Changes have breathed new life into nearly abandoned Imperial troops. And leading the way, mighty Lord Vader's Sith training has made him even more powerful and devastating. Now is the time, for the Empire to strike back!! So, a new year, and a new Star Wars Legion painting WIP. Last year started strong but then I almost completely stopped painting for quite a while. Instead I focused on getting a bunch of units assembled, as I was playing fairly regularly. My back going to crap probably had some impact on my painting too, all those meds aren't helping with my focus or energy levels. Regardless, I've finally felt like painting again the last week or so. So I'm going to go with it and hope to settle in to a schedule where I'm getting a few hours of painting in a week. My goals for this year are to get back to painting Empire forces, but also to finish up painting my CIS army. For the CIS I still have to paint two more units of B1s, and base them and the 2 units I've just finished up in the old WIP. Then there are 3 units of STAPs, 3 units of Droidekas. 3 Spider Droids. 3 boxes of Magnaguards. 3 boxes of Bx commandos. A bunch of commanders and specialists. Oh, and 2 snail tanks, and two AATs.......so a bit...also 1 more unit of B2s if they ever come in. But, as soon as I get through the 2 units of B1s (they take up too much room on my desk to work on anything else at the same time) I'll start moving in some Imperial units to mix it up. And get back to painting white......

(Yes, the title is a throwback to a contest I ran years ago on here....no I'm not running another one, with today's shipping rates, ugh......) This is where I'm going to work on 3D printed terrain pieces for Star Wars Legion, most of which currently are going to be spaceships. Because why use generic terrain when you can be shooting Rebel Scum hiding behind X-wings and the like? Up first is this: All the FDM bits are there, but most of the resin bits (guns, ramp, interior) are still in a bin waiting to have their supports removed and cured. I figured I should get a thread started as maybe that will get me over that initial hurdle of actually starting. This has all been printed for a week or two and just sitting there....plus I'm gonna need that airbrush booth for other things sooner or later.... I will, of course, be attempting to make this look somewhat like the original episode 5 version, not some retconned prequel sillyness. Now to go listen to some Prism.

Picked up the New Yoda miniature for star wars legions and had to paint him up. Love the sculpt but had to add some floating rocks to the Force using pose. I'd love to hear what people think. https://www.instagram.com/p/CZJb0WCulRw/?utm_medium=copy_link

Once I started painting Star Wars minis it was only a matter of time before I tackled one of the most iconic characters. Again I'd love to hear what you all think. https://www.instagram.com/p/CXtt8W1uY0M/?utm_medium=copy_link

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away.... No, a longer time ago.....in continuation of a "fine" tradition, we will now move backwards in time to the era of The Clone Wars. (Hey hey, relax, don't leave. No no, we aren't going to talk about THAT movie. There will be no mention of trade embargos or senate politics. Well, no other mention..... To be completely honest, there may be references to it though....sorry. But they did just come out with a Maul fig, and it is the version from THAT movie.....) So, this will be a continuation of the previous WIP on Star Wars Legion. New year, new WIP, oh and new core box. My wife got me the Clone Wars core for Christmas (I MIGHT have hinted a few.....hundred.......times). As I'm already painting way too much white armor (which I'll still be painting (forever)), I'm focusing on the Droids. Yes I know they are called the Separatists Alliance, but Droids is easier to spell and you all know what I mean. (Note, if you do not know what I'm referring to then we can wait while you pop off and watch Star Wars Episodes II and III. Oh and the 7 seasons of the animated Clone Wars series (not to be confused with Star Wars: Clone Wars, which was a 3 season animated series and is now considered non-canonical). All are available on Disney+ btw. While there you might as well watch the 4 seasons of Rebels, as Sabine, Clan Wren and Kallus will be showing up at some point. You should probably watch the 2 seasons of The Mandalorian too if you haven't yet too. Not that I'll probably be painting anything from there, well I do have some stls....but the reason to watch it is because it is awesome!!!) I'll be continuing to work on my Imperials, but I'll also be starting on my Droid army, which I'll be painting primarily with contrast paint, doing some wear and damage (unlike my pristine Imps) and basing fairly simply with just some sand or gravel or something on the standard bases (we'll see for sure when I get the first unit done). So starting out: I assembled 2 B1s, and glued together two units of Imperial Royal Guard, which I'd prepped quite a while ago. The Guards are the old plastic so were quickly superglued together. They are only 3 pieces each. They'll get pins for their feet soon. The droids are the new hard plastic so they recommend plastic glue. FYI they still need to superglued to the bases apparently. as the bases are a different plastic. The droids come in 8 parts...each. Yep that's a lot of very small, very skinny parts. I only dropped a couple. At least I found them all. (parts are 2 legs, 2 arms (one with the gun attached), body, backpack, and two pieces of head. Somehow they needed to make the head 2 pieces.....) Since I hadn't put them together before I took my time trying not to mess up. I still managed to, a bit. Crouching guy took some damage from a bit of plastic glue on my thumb while trying to align the arms. As I'm planning to make these guys a little beat up and worn, not big deal. It's late and these are fiddly, so that's as far as I got tonight. I should be able to crank out most of a unit (note, the B1 unit comes with 9 figures....you start with 6 in the unit, then can optionally add an extra troop, and one of two heavy weapon options) tomorrow hopefully as long as the snow storm doesn't take out power or something equally annoying. Roger Roger.

My latest starwars miniature. A very challenging paint job but a great opportunity to practice my freehand skills. Very rewarding project, even if her helmet gave me fits. I'd love to hear what you all think. https://www.instagram.com/othikent/p/CYCmeCYulsK/?utm_medium=copy_link

This morning I started on one of my Mandalorians. Started with base coats on the grey and green and then a dark wash. Then picked out the leather items and washed them as well. Then a first coat on the cape and base. Oh, and base coated and washed the metal too.

It is a time of unrest among the 28mm miniatures. All of Jasper's WIPs seem to focus on 10mm BSRs and 3D printing. Rumor is rampant. Has Jasper forsaken his hordes of unpainted 28mm figures? But then word comes, from the far off land of LFGS, of a new...purchase. And then another. And another. Could this be what the unpainted masses await? At last there is a sighting. A box, opening, as was foretold. Figures of grey begin to emerge and forces begin to assemble. The huddled unpainted masses hold their breaths ans hopes rise, preparing for the coming of the paint.... So, I'm starting yet another WIP, with hope that this one will go somewhere. I've been picking up a bunch of Star Wars Legion since the summer, when I got a new job and moved to a new city. We have a pretty nice flgs just a couple of minutes walk from the office, so it is very easy to just wander over at lunch. This is great, but not for my budget. I'm not sure if I'll ever actually play Legion (not that I'm ruling it out) but mostly I just like Star Wars. Anyway, with us moved into a new house and with a mostly set up painting room (just don't look...well, anywhere but the painting desk) I figure it's time to get some of these figures painted up. I am (of course, I mean look at my avatar) starting with the Imperial forces. Not a massive start. But a start none the less. It is late and my neck a bit cranky, but I wanted to get started. Some I've worked on mold lines and test fit limbs. Looks like there are 8 more Stormtroopers to pull out of baggies. I'll likely tackle some of them tomorrow unless we end up painting CAV (or my wife has other plans). I expect I'll want to pin their feet to the bases, plus I have to decide if the get normal bases or the spiffy ones I picked up. And I expect I'll glue the arms on before painting even though it is a bit of a pain to paint anything with arms like that. I still think I'd rather have them assembled. As far as painting, I'm just going for tabletop on these guys, but as they are mostly white I'm still going to go look at some other people's work. I know there was a number of very good Star Wars Legion WIPs on here a bit ago, that I need to go find again. Edit: @Sharkbelly's WIPs on Star Wars Legion were the ones I was thinking of. They are great!!

So this is my year in review. It was a strange year, what with working from home since early March. I initially thought that would mean I'd paint more, but after spending 8+ hours every day sitting 3 feet from my painting desk but working, it really didn't work out that way. Eventually I was able to get some stuff painted so things are working better now. At the start of the year I decided I wanted to not just pick up some random Star Wars Legion stuff to paint, but to actually play the game. Unfortunately everything shut down before I could watch a game at the LFGS. After I got enough prepped at home, my very patient and understanding wife agreed to play some small games so I could sort out the rules. It must be reasonably fun for her, we just played a game on Monday.... Eventually the store opened up for play again and I got in about a half dozen games before the latest wave hit and put a stop to that. If all goes well we should be back to playing in a couple weeks. As far as painting: That was my output for the year. I count it as 52 figures (51 bases but the e-Web has two Snowtroopers on the base.....). Not bad at all for me, especially considering it took me two months to paint the first unit of Stormtroopers and I had a big slump during the hot part of the summer where my output was nil. As you can probably tell, I play Imperials. And, because I'm using the premium bases and painting them, I can only field what I've painted. So I've been pushing on painting Imperials. The only rebel unit I've painted is the Rebel Veterans. The LFGS rain a painting contest online during the shutdown and I figured painting yet more white and black wasn't going to impress.... Here is the breakdown: Rebels: 1 box of Rebel Veterans Imperials 2 units of Stromtroopers 1 unit of Scout Troopers 2 units of Snowtroopers 1 e-WEB heavy blaster team 2 units of Speederbikes Darth Vader (the starter box edition) General Veers and the Imperial Officer and FX-9 Medical Droid from the Imperial Specialists Personnel Expansion. Looking forward to 2021 I still have a lot of Imperials left to paint. Luckily most are assembled, some are primed and a number of Stormtroopers already have a wash and drybrush done. This is good because I got the Clone Wars starter for Christmas (awesome wife strikes again!) so I'll be starting to assemble Droids soon....

Next project: these two. I've started with a base coat of dark grey on the droid and weapons, followed by a wash of Nuln Oil. Base coat and wash for Iden's face as well as for a variant head that is from an old Warhammer kit (so I might be able to use this as a generic RPG character as well.) For Iden I used a darker base coat than for the other one.

I have now started these two. I'm hoping to let washes do a lot of the work on Cassian. Here are a few of the base colors. For K2, I thinned the grey a little bit to let some edges and details show through. Each model comes with a few arm options.

My last project for the month is to repaint my AT-RT. I painted it quite a while ago, and now want to go with a different color scheme. Here's what it looks like now.
-
The Armoed Assault Tank, or AAT for short, is up next. I might use a few of the extra droids as riders.
-
Up next are some more battle droids. One episode of the Clone Wars has some B-1 Battle Droids that are programmed to follow R2-D2. I thought I would paint up some for him for Legion. I also want to paint a labor/battle droid for a Star Wars RPG character, so I modified one with leftover Grievous arms. That one got a coat of green contrast paint over the primer.

In May I'll be painting stuff for multiple factions. Here is the start of the bunker. First it gets a black wash in the recesses.

So I was just about to check out my first Star Wars Legion game night at the lfgs when the whole apocalypse thing happened, so rather than painting my Imperials, I've been focusing on getting my rebel scum assembled so that wife (who is "mostly" interested in playing) and I can learn to play here at home. With that complete I now need to get some more Imperials finished so we can actually play, since I'm not attaching bases to the Imperials until they are painted. As my wife actually agreed to play this weekend, that meant I needed a commander quick! So I pulled up the FFG guide online to paint Vader and knocked out a decent tabletop in a couple of hours. Good enough and he already squeaked on a victory yesterday in our first game (he had one wound left). Now back to painting white armor to get more troopers ready.....sigh.

Been a while since I posted a show-off....hopefully I'll be more productive painting this year. Of to a good start, I've already painted more than double my total for last year.... I've started painting up some of the Star Wars Legion figures I've been picking up from my lfgs for the last half year or so. I started with a unit of Stormtroopers out of the starter box. These were supposed to be a nice super quick tabletop paint job to get the year started. While they were a quick tabletop paint job, that quick ended up being spread over 2 months....hopefully I will get better at getting some painting in more often over the next couple of months. The whole unit. Standard troopers. Commander and specialists.
