After about 3 weeks it’s finally done! I’ve had a concept for a white dragon bouncing around in my head for a while, and I shy away from painting overly in white for the same technical reasons as everyone else, but this completes a loop in painting for me.... My first dragon ever ever was a white (Reaper’s Deathsleet), and I was doing great just to get somewhat clean lines. After about a year and a half, I wanted to give it another try to compare how much I’ve learned. It’s been difficult since I’m not artistic, but learning to paint minis has been a great experience. I just took a picture of my first white dragon and this current white dragon. Sorry for the crappy photos, but I hope you enjoy the frost dragon/albino-ish concept. Please let me know what you would have done differently. Criticism and advice are always welcome! Goodnight :)

Learning from my previous forays into blending with wings, I decided to try for something more challenging. In doing this, I learned that sometimes the parts of bigger minis don't fit together as well as one hopes, which in this case resulted in some improvisation, especially around the foot/base socket and the wings. But I am enjoying how he came out. He was wondrously bumpy. :-)

I painted this as a gift for a friend of mine who got me into DND. He ran Rise of Tiamat for over two years, and that was my introduction to DND and I’ve been hooked ever since. It just seemed like an appropriate gift for all the work he put in!

I started this project yesterday with Reaper Bones Stormwing after painting a blue one. I intended to paint another in blue to replace the one I gave away, but instead I thought it was time to do another white dragon! My first dragon was white, and I had no concept of painting techniques other than a fledgling understanding of brush control. This was a little over a year ago, so I’m painting this one to do a side by side comparison of how far I’ve come. I reprimed it white over the black, then went Lothern Blue (Citadel) base. I’ve done some gradual damp/dry brushing to work up gray/blue, gray, now hard transitioning into medium beige. Next step is going more into the whites now that the undertones are there. Breast scales are not undertoned, just straight gray. Going for pink/purple/ice blue highlights...almost like pearlescent finish on horns. I’ll figure it out on the wings and breastplates. Advice welcome!!

Yeah I am doing it again. Kinda mad I know. This time I chose Stormwing to do as I have done Ebonwrath, my wife is planning to do Deathsleet and my daughter is planning Kryphrixis. So the rolls.... Marine Teal. True blue. Imperial purple. Kinda boring really. Oh well. Here we go. \ Assembled. Needs se filling around the wing roots. Will need to think about the base. Really boring.

Since I now have all the colours I need for this challenge, and Stormwing was suitable prepped, I didn't really have any excuse any more. My dice rolls, as mentioned earlier was: Heather Blue, Violet Red, Blush Pink. And since I have no idea of how to make those colours work together, I've decided that I might just as well go whole hog and do a 3Star challenge. So no shades or highlight colours. Just Pure White and Pure Black to help out with. I'm also adding Grey Liner, as a Primer only. Stormwing and base has been Lined. Not all that even, but then again, it shouldn't be visible later since it's there as a Primer only. The mess in my pallette was me trying to find a way to blend the colours. Nope, didn't really find anything, so no blending. It may look as if there's some blue on Stormwing, but that's just the camera being fooled by the lighting. (Vilet Red is to the left of 'six o clock' and Blue is to the right. Blush Pink is in the center.)

So I finished this guy up. I kinda abandoned my WIP for it because I had to put it on hold for a long while and then when I returned to it I realized that I was approaching it all wrong for the sculpt. This sculpt really suits drybrushing rather than layering, so that’s how I attacked it instead. That’s not my preferred method of painting, but sometimes you have to give up your preferences and go with what works instead. My rolled colours were: Main Colour: True Blue (I subbed in Dragon Blue) Second Colour: Brilliant Green Third Colour: Marine Teal I did the 3 Star Challenge, so the only other colours I used were Pure White and Pure Black. I was just messing around with the base....I probably could’ve made a more serious attempt at painting marble, but I honestly just wanted to get it done and move on to the next thing. I hope y’all like it anyway!

For our new event/quest here: I have chosen Stormwing and will be doing the 3 star challenge (Only my 3 rolled colors + Black / White for Shading/Highlighting) And my rolls: 16: Cloudy Grey (main color) 10: Imperial Purple (secondary Color) 2: Clotted Red (misc color)

So here's the thread for the rules: I picked Stormwing. And here were my rolls: I will also be attempting the 3 Star Challenge version, so I will have my colour palette limited to my 3 rolled paints, plus black and white. I did a quick once over of the mold lines and then glued most of him together and threw some green stuff into the gaps. You're also allowed to prime with Brown Liner, so I'll be doing that next. There's no time limit and I can use any size brush I like, which will be a refreshing change for me.
