    77168: Battleguard Golem

So I finally got around to painting my first bones mini! Decided I'd get this guy and paint him up like a battered old warforged, as I just love those tin cans. Can't say the material was much different than metal to paint after I primed him, just the weird sensation of him weighing nothing in my hand. His paint turned out a bit bluer than I'd envisioned, I wanted a hint more green in there for a more turquoise look, but I'm happy with how it turned out. Also my first time trying some OSL, I think I could have gone brighter on the shade, and slightly thinner in places (I was using around a 10:1 mix). I also thought his left arm looked a little barren, so he I gave him an integrated forearm crossbow that I scavenged from a friends bits box. I haven't done anything with the base as I intend to cut him off of it and replace it with a 25mm one, but I have something special in mind for it, and I'm now waiting on a piece for a couple of weeks. So he's done for now and I'm reasonably happy with him.

    14046: Ardynn, Elven Hero

Hello again! Another mini for you all today. I actually painted this guy up a week ago, but never got around to taking some photos, and have since moved on to another project. This guy was somewhat of a rush job, as my girlfriend's wizard had an unfortunate run in with the business end of an ogre's falchion, and lets just say his head and body had a "parting of ways". So she decided to roll up an good old fashioned elven ranger for the next week. So we had to pick out a new mini, order him, prep, base and paint him up in a week. Not the paint scheme I'd have gone with for this mini personally, it feels a little cliche, but hey, not my character. I'm calling this guy table quality and done for now, I'm really not happy with the highlight work on the sword, and the cape ended up a bit more vivid than I'd envisaged (lesson learned, mix in some white next time!). As always tips and comments welcome (especially any advice on fixing that sword...)
  3. First time posting here, but not technically my first mini, I think i threw some paint on half a dozen space marines about 12 years ago, not touched a brush since then. Decided to get back into the hobby with the most recent bones kickstarter, as we play alot of D&D, and thought I'd best have a practice before then. So here is my paladin of St Cuthbert for a friends D&D shackled city campaign, and given the volcanic, dungeon-crawly setting, I wanted to try and go for a darker look for the mini, rather than traditional blingy shining look. I didn't feel confident with my skill trying to paint the glow from the sword on the armor, I was afraid I'd mess it up and ruin the whole mini, so I didn't attempt it. Any tips and advice are more than welcome, I want to try and improve as best I can before this time next year when the bones cometh.
  4. So I bought minis for characters I have in a written rp that has literally zero use for minis. I bought them though, simply because I like to have little representations of my characters. This is one of said characters, and her name is Shana Holt. She is hopelessly in love with a guard captain, who belongs to Rob, called Simone, and she aspires to be noticed by her, to the point of a little bit odd. Janan, of course, is stood on a dragon head, but Shana is no dragon slayer, she's just a city guard - so Drifter helped me out by trimming the dragon head away from her foot, and then she got rebased. She's got a nice genuine pebble there to rest her foot upon, and her sword has resisted my numerous attempts to sort it the hell out and still has a little bend in it, but murgh. And here's a bonus Instagrammed photo. Yar. So her base is a pebble and some green stuff, savaged with the rear end of one of my paintbrushes. Her paints... Oh gawd. Citadel: -Khorne Red -Evil Sunz Scarlet -Bloodletter Glaze -Kislev Flesh -Flayed One Flesh -Runelord Brass -Nuln Oil -Seraphim Sepia -Loren Forest -Elysian Green -Ushabti Bone P3: -Menoth White Highlight -Thamar Black -Bloodtracker Brown -Umbral Umber -Cold Steel

    Dark Sword - Female Paladin

Newest mini ^^ This figure is kinda special for me, as she's going to be my Pathfinder character, hence the slightly odd colours. Being a vampire (hence the purpleish skin) and a Nightblade, she has some odd abilities, like creating weapons and shields from shadow. So, to represent that, I had a go at painting the shield and sword as if they were part real, part shadow. I sanded some of the detail off from the shield to make it (hopefully) more effective I also sanded off all the various crosses from her armour, like on the kneepads, cause... vampire. Didn't make much sense to leave them there

Woldvagner the Elder, Red Box Games

Woldvagner the Elder from Red Box Games. I have stared to delve into my RBG collection. I'm moderately happy with how this figure turned out. I really need to work on the eyes for future RBG miniatures. I feel that something might be missing but I can't put my finger on it.
  7. Hi, This is my first post on this forum. I'm drawn here by the Bones 3 Kickstarter (and it drawn quite a bit of money from my pocket as well ), And so before they arrive in a year's time, I thought I should try out painting a few Bones series figure to practice. I ended up getting some of the fire giants, and out of which I picked the bodyguard to try first. I think I managed a reasonable result so far, but now I have come to the sword itself, and I am a bit stuck. I want to make part of the sword look heated to emphasize the "fire" element, but this sort of special effect is alien to me. I have painted a few model before, mostly Gundam plastic models, and I have painted a Tau Army before, but I rarely paint fantasy miniature, beside 2 dragon models (GW's High Elf Lord on Dragon years ago, and a metal Karamor Guardian Dragon last month), so I am wondering what is the best way to do it. Should I switch to an airbrush to do it? or can this be done by hand? I use mostly GW paint, because they are the easiest paint to acquire near where I live (UK).

    A Bloodreaver

AKA a Chaos Marauder, (everything needs a new name apparently):- Was figuring out the colour scheme for the Chaos half of my Age of Sigmar set, ended up so pleased with the final result I thought he deserved showing-off! (IMO I think I did a really good job on his muscles) Will have to paint more bare-chested dudes in future. Any comments and criticisms are, as always, most appreciated.
  9. I've started to ignore my fear and dive into my collection of Red Box Games miniatures. Here is the warp version of Morgrimn the Mighty!

    Custom Redemptionist #2

Second character pieced together from the bits pile. Flagellants and techno priest parts. Sword.. might be lizard men bit. Not happy with the osl here, but it's for the tabletop, so I might just flesh it out later. :)
  11. This was a commission for a fellow player from a conversion that our friend/DM did to Thund. The player wanted a half-orc barbarian with a ridiculously large (anime-style) sword. Our friend (SMChristopher) did this conversion and I apologize I don't know all the details of what bits he used. I think the sword blade may have been custom, the right arm came from someone else, and I *think* the head came from someone else as well. All I needed to do was splash some paint on to it and turn it into Guts, the Barbarian. The player wanted some nice splashes of blood on the sword. I'll take comments/criticism if anyone has any suggestions.

    77300: Male Antipaladin (Bones 2)

My last piece, I'm still thinking about some improvements that can be done (the cape, the head on his chest plate). Suggestions and other comments are more than welcome.

    89032 Anti Paladin

This guy reminds me of a medieval Darth Vader.

    14587: Oakhearth Sentinel

From my Restoring the Balance WIP thread, I present Leaf Knight Guy (aka Oakhearth Sentinel):- Not quite sure why his lower legs are so much more armoured compared to the rest of him, must be battling a race of very tiny people. Kept this one pretty simple, but I'm still pretty pleased with the results. Any comments or criticisms are, as always, most appreciated.
  15. Had this fellow finished for a while: Side and rear:

    14542: Nasithe, Darkspawn

On this one, I did TMM and tried to shade the metal using clockwork brass with black, followed by P3 rhunic gold, followed by P3 true gold, then a small Vallejo ice yellow dot. I know my skill level only allows so much, but I'm looking for suggestions on highlighting or shading or anything that will be helpful. I tried for a suntan darker flesh tone. This mini was given to me to paint after it had been glued together, primed thick black and no mold lines removed. I tried to get some of the lines, but couldn't get all of them. This is a PC in my game so I want it to look nice. I ordered another one that I'm going to make a dark elf. Unfortunately, I see my photos didn't turn out well at all, Its probably going to be near impossible for anyone to really see the shading and highlights to make suggestions. I'm sorry for that... heck, I even put freckles on her! grrrrrr After a cup of coffee this morning I retook a few shots and replaced the old.

    Twilight Knight - Order Version

'Twilight Knights are part of an organization dedicated to making sure humanity's glorious past is never forgotten. By gathering together what relics and fragments of knowledge they can find, they hope to restore at least a little of what was lost in the Great War. More heavily armoured and with greater mental conditioning than their regular counterparts. Order Knights are the shield of the organization, deployed to defend areas and items deemed to be of great importance. They stand steadfast in the face of whatever Void born madness comes their way.' Still struggling with taking photos at the moment (though these are a significant improvement over the first ones I took of this guy). A WIP thread can be found here. Overall I'm fairly pleased with how he came out, there's some serious room for improvement on his cape (I get stuck when the folds get large) but I'm getting there slowly. As always, any comments and criticisms are greatly appreciated.
  18. Hi Gang! It's late/early but I got so caught up in painting, I decided I needed to rejoin the WIP forum It's been too long! I hit one of those "painting zen" places and picked up a Shelf of Shame mini that I started to paint last year, but when I saw Cash's amazing thread in May 2014, I got discouraged so I "temporarily" put him aside. One year later, I'm ready to paint Noreth! I decided his long jacket would be a royal blue and while I waited for the base coat to dry, I worked on his face. Fast forward after an hour of obsessive "...if I just fix this little detail" and I looked up and thought, "Holy moly, now THAT is what I'm talking' about!". I've often been frustrated at my attempts at painting eyes and I'm finally in a place where I can be proud of the eyes that I paint! I joked with @ub3r_n3rd-- the amount of time I spend studying with Derek Schubert at each ReaperCon is directly proportional to how well I paint that next year. However, I still have a LOT to learn! At RC 2016, I might just duct tape myself to him throughout the entire Con. He won't mind... right? (see "Harassment" in your "What NOT To Do at ReaperCon" common-sense pamphlets)
  19. Still don't feel like facing my 'Shelf of Shame' at the moment, so I dug this guy out of my 'Pile of Shame':- The Order variant of the Twilight Knight from Kingdom Death. Between him needing quite a lot of prep work (the casting wasn't particularly good on this one), a paint explosion and general 'life suckiness', I haven't got very far:- His face is done (Vallejo Dwarf Flesh>Flesh Shade Wash>Dwarf Flesh>1:1 Dwarf Flesh/Linen White). I gave his eyes a few tries but they're way too small for me to pupilize, I might colour them in later but I'm liking them white at the moment. I've made a start on his tunic with a basecoat of Sapphire Blue, but I'm having doubts as to whether it's all one piece (the bottom half does look a lot more 'armour platey' compared to the obviously fabric top). There's also something going on under his left arm, so his tunic might actually be a tabbard over a breastplate, but I can't really make it out. So I worked on his funky shield:- But I don't think I'll get a decent picture of it until it's attached. The front of the shield is finished, the face drybrushed in Vallejo Bronze and Vallejo Burnished Gold, with the edges in Vallejo Oily Steel.
  20. Original paint scheme by Sean Guzman. Not even a close rendition, but I just loved that look. Formerly the mini for an in-game PC... ultimately killed by winter wolves in Icewind Dale.

    Aina, Valkyrie: 77052

Painted this for a friends' birthday. The miniature is going to be part of a small diorama, fending off a dragon.
  22. Hey there everybody, It's me again, and this time I have Sajan, the monk from Pathfinder. We are using this figure for a monk in our Pathfinder RPG (just not as Sajan). I had a lot of fun painting this miniature and I tried to thin out the paints more when layering colors. I did find that I got smoother blends and overall better results. I did not originally base this miniature, another player was going to paint him but then left it up to me. I wasn't a huge fan of his rock and land placement so I added a bunch of grass to give him a meddowy feel. His face I feel falls short (first non-hooded mini), but since its not a studio piece I thought it was good enough for our table top game. Figured it'd get a good wear anyways from handling. Thanks for looking guys, Look forward to seeing what you all have to say. :) Cheers.

    77200: Sir Conlan (bones II)

Long time no post. So here I go again. Another party member so another character waiting to be killed. His name is Chval (can be translated as "praise") and he is the witcher from the fire order. These boys call themselves "Hearts of fire". More like "farts on fire" to me. As a character I never liked him, as he was real phoney. He had a horse, while we were walking, he had a sword, while we had only sticks.... But during our last game we kind of find a way to each other....(un)fortunately my character has died, so the friendship was over in an hour :) Hope you will like him more than I did :) And again better res picture over here I need to paint my new character now... Still can't find the proper miniature.

This zombie comes from Enigma miniatures, Zombie horde (5):
  25. Here is the Vampire Queen herself. She has a Magic Sword guarded by her Crow familiar. Her faithful undead servant lights the way. I tried a bit of OSL on the servant, my first try. I don't think it worked out that well, but you gotta try right? The familiar and sword are from Reaper, pack X. The Vampire and Servant are from the Freebooter range, sculpted by Werner Klocke. Sorry about the quality of some pics, still struggling with the camera.
