03627: Stieg Brinegrog, Pirate (Completed)
pcktlnt posted a topic in Show Off: PaintingHello all. I failed to keep up with the WIP due to rushing to completion. This was my Reaper entry and he received a solid bronze. I'm quite proud of two parts of the figure: 1) The freehand tattoo on his back, it was my first attempt at freehand. ^.^ 2) The water portion of the plinth because I borrowed two blue's from @Mr Melons (thanks!) and set about mixing and painting on the plinth with a completion time of under 10 minutes. ^.^ I will summarize to the best of my abilities, the information I have garnered from judges and several artists I have spoken with. For now, I present Stieg. He was a wonderful figure to paint and very fun. Summary behind the spoiler:
Melody (aka Mel) the Necromancer is complete! She is clearly a Slytherin. Adventures: shading green with purple (thanks CMPA), NMM scythe, hiding a bad foot with paint, heck of a tattoo, granite, and accidentally painting a familiar face. Mel will be used in my D&D campaign as a potential romance interest to the Necrobard in an attempt to sway him towards evil. Some photos are zoomed on face, scythe, and the rock. WIP:
Here is a completed Xanthia Skyclad, from Hasslefree Miniatures. She's standing on a base from Micro Arts Studios (in their forest collection, the wround 30mm group). Photos linked for nudity. Xanthia front Xanthia profile Xanthia back Xanthia quarter profile There is also a basing thread and a WIP thread. I gave her two small tattoos -- a triskelion on the right shoulder, and a band around her right ankle. Those I just drew on using a .005 Micron pen with archival blue ink, on the base coat, and then covered them over with multiple very thin layers of flesh tones. This is the first time I've attempted a tattoo, and I'm generally pleased, though they came out perhaps a tad understated. Also they didn't photograph very well, I'm afraid. As is often the case, the mini is nicer in hand than on screen. This is a birthday gift for a player in my group, who came up with a druid so devoted to nature that she refuses to wear clothing. The player's birthday isn't till June, but once I got started, I just wanted to get the figure done.
77207: Dub Bullock
Jessie posted a topic in Show Off: PaintingHere's my version of Dub Bullock. This is to be my husband's next player character. He hasn't told me what the full background would be but asked for a bandages over the eyes and blood as if his eyes are bleeding as well as tattoos on the arms. I'm not as happy with the tattoos but didn't want to redo the whole arm so will leave it as is. The bandages on his eyes were made from milliput, though it was challenging to get the stuff as thin as it needed to be without it falling apart as I put it on. His base is my first made base from Basius. I probably could have done a lot better job in putting the figure on the base itself but I think it is okay for a first try. Anyways, thanks for reading, comments & criticism always appreciated!
Tattooed Shadowrun Cyber-troll, Ral Partha 20-563
Pingo posted a topic in Show Off: PaintingThis is one of three figures from the Ral Partha (now Iron Wind Metals) set "Wolfram's Gang." The set has three trolls, a woman with a rifle and pistol, a cyborg-troll, and this fella. His clothing was a little more eccentric than the others', and all that bare skin inspired me to try my hand at painting tiny tattoos on his skull and arms. There's a WIP thread for a whole lot of Shadowrun trolls here. Show-Off threads for the other Shadowrunners are: Reaper's own Caine, Cyber-Troll, a Troll woman from Wolfram's Gang, an ork woman street samurai, an Oni bouncer, a cyber-troll in reflective armor, and the unbelievably over-the-top Lord Torgo.
