Thug - Wildspire Heroic Townsfolk (18 of 18)
Grand Slam posted a topic in Show Off: PaintingI think he's my favorite of this whole set. He could pass for a heroic fighter in a pinch, but this guy seems to scream "shady thug/mercenary" through and through. As you can see in the side-by-side pic with an unpainted example, the detail on the cape was originally...lacking (it looked like he had a boogie board strapped to his back). I can work with LOW detail, but this cape had NO detail. So, I ended up making a custom cape and was much happier with how it looked. And that's it for the original set of Wildspire townsfolk. Thanks for endulging me during this trip down memory lane. They did do a later version of this set that added about 11 more figures ( kind of a "set 1.5," I guess). I've got that one, so I'll be painting the newer guys at some point.

Frostgrave Cultists, North Star
Jaws posted a topic in Show Off: PaintingJoined an ongoing Pathfinder campaign, and made these to match the current enemies we have been fighting. One mage, and three thugs. Got basing left to do.: The mage is actually a Warhammer Flagellant with some elven bits. Edit for adding all pics to first post.: Edit: I've now used some more of my cultists for a Blood Bowl team. And there are still a few left on the sprues! This kit has such awesome value. They were all batch painted, last night, after using a couple to choose the scheme.:
GW Witch Hunter as Frostgrave Thug Conversion
Chris Palmer posted a topic in Show Off: PaintingA while back I came across a photo of the Games Workshop metal Witch Hunter figure of the fellow carrying an axe in one hand, and a puppet in the other. I knew I had to have one for my Frostgrave collection, as it was such a silly looking model. Luckily, I was able to pick one up on Ebay. The puppet, as it comes with the figure, represents a religious personality with a mitre and staff. I, however, wanted it to be more of a "Mini Me" representation of the puppeteer (obviously driven a little looney from repeated trips into the frozen city). So, I replaced the crooked head of the staff with a small axe head, and carved his mitered hat down to look more like a helmet. I painted the figure, and did the puppet in the same color scheme. I wasn't sure what to do on his wooden sign, and then I got the idea to do it as a scoreboard, as if our Thug and his little friend were having a contest to see which one of them could despatch the most enemies. I'm really happy with how he (they?) turned out. I think it will make a fun addition to my Frostgrave collection.
Chris Palmer posted a topic in Show Off: PaintingI painted up Mi-Sher this week. She is supposed to be wielding two swords, but I had borrowed her second sword a while back to use with my Chronomancer Apprentice, Sascha Dubois; and the figure had been sitting around my painting table off-handedly until I realized recently that with just one sword she would make a good Thug for Frostgrave. So, I found a suitable replacement hand from my bits box of hard plastic figure parts, and after prepping the figure, I super-glued the hand in place. I did a standard table-top job on her, and used a 10mm figure, painted up and mounted like a fallen and broken statue, to decorate the base. I'm generally happy with how the figure came out. The pose may be a little awkward without the second sword, but I like to think it looks like she is signaling to a compatriot as she runs along, or perhaps preparing to climb a ruin. As always, C & C welcome.
50272: Stubbs, Biker Thug
Loth posted a topic in Works in Progress: PaintingSo I started posting hoping I'd get more done, but picked a mini that wasn't going to be quick earlier. This time I've gone for Stubbs, biker thug. I expect this'll be a quick one. I've basically gave him a base coat so I can see how it'll look. If anyone says they're's too much denim you're wrong! I'm using the vampiric skin trilogy for his T-shirt, the 9055-57 trilogy for the denim, Ivory trilogy for the sheep skin collar/trim, auburn trilogy for hair and Tanned skin well for skin. Anyone have a good biker gang name? Thanks for looking, Loth
