Continuing with my Autumn theme... Angry Ent and his friends. Considering how much force he can probably whip that pumpkin with, he should count as an artillery piece. The leafing of his beard went easier than I feared and the spray sealer cemented them down firmly. The Mayberry Street Miniatures pumpkin fit his hand perfectly.

I decided to do the big treant today to have something that I could do quickly. Here's today in a few pics. They got a bit out of order. Green beard, orange mushrooms, black + browning shadows, brown + light brown in highlights. not sure what more I'll do. May not get to paint until the weekend.

I needed a Tree Blight for a Curse of Strahd campaign I am running. The Nolzur’s treant sculpt seemed kind of sinister, so I rolled with that. Used mostly inks, glazes, and dry brushing on the treant himself.

From WizKids' line of Nolzur's Marvellous Miniatures comes the "Treant", which is D&D-speak for Ent, or Treeman if you are more familar with Warhammer. I find this mini looks angry and scary, not like a benevolent living tree shepherd at all. A malevolent one, on the other hand, fits the bill precicely. And seeing as I have been painting undead halflings and there is a strong historic connection between Halflings and Treemen as allies; so undead treeman. Hence, Torchwood the Furious here. Go on, you know you want to go on:

Been working on this guy for a while; finished him (for a given value of "finished") a couple weeks ago but didn't take pics until recently. The sculpted beard wasn't doing it for me, so I added some reindeer moss. Glued on some tiny leaves that look like miniaturized burr oak leaves. His huckable boulder I'm using for other terrain. This is a big fella! C&C welcome as always.

These mini's are sooooo tiny! AND adorable!! I did have some trouble really picking out details on the Fairy and the one I am referring to as "Ragdoll". The soft edges were a little confusing at first and the way the Fairy's body is positioned, it was hard to tell what was leg or clothing! lol But I looked on google to get some reference from others that had already tackled these. That was super helpful! After that I had painted these 3 up and set em aside for a while and worked on other things, not really sure what I wanted to do with them. Then a couple weeks ago I went on a Youtube binge watching soooo mannny videos about basing and came up with some cool ideas! (Stay tuned for more on that!) While cleaning up my bulletin board, a pushpin broke. The metal part, right off. I almost tossed it out, but I have a problem holding onto anything that might be useful later lol. But then I immediately imagined it as a spool of thread. *sketch idea, hold for later* Then I just had to figure out what mini to use and my husband suggested the ragdoll, I mean she is stitched together so ya! Then I did the Treant, those yellow bits on his base are foraged pieces of the invasive plant Virginia Creeper. We have some growing on our shed and as I was clearing it away I noticed how cool the little feets from their vines they use to climb look, so I snipped a ton of em, dried em out and hold onto them for neat terrain. These ones I chose to paint this yellow tone to accent the tree, without taking away or distracting from it! Lastly, was the fairy, I just felt her jamming out on top of a little pile of rocks would be cute lol. So I used cork as stone and little bits of clump foliage and some other cork stone and flock to decorate. Thanks for looking everyone! C&C always welcome!

Fi fie fo fum! Just in time for my "Storm King's Thunder" campaign to be long over, here come the Giants from Stonehaven Miniatures! The Hill Giant Rustler: The Sleepyhead: Smile on, smilodon! The Giant Barbarian. I believe the intent was as a Hill Giant, but I have a ton of those. His warpaint is based on runes from "Storm King's Thunder" The Cloud Giant: The Storm Giant. He's a great design, but he's rather small compared to the other Giants. It was a debate on what color of Dragon to use for his armor: The Fire Giant, who was probably my favorite to paint. She's a nice, simple design but gets the point across. The Treant: The only small miniature that I painted so far, but still from the Stonehaven Giants Kickstarter so it counts: The Entling!

I forget exactly what this figure is called, but it's another old Mage Knight figure that I have repainted. I think it would work well as a (small) evil treant. I'd have to go through the Monster Manual, but I'm sure that there are other plant monsters this would work as, too. Tabletop paint job as usual. ETA---Forgot to mention, this is part of my Morihalda challenge (do art every day in December).

Here is my finished "spirit of the forest" diorama. Including a bones bird familiar and metal squirrel familiar from 02756. (The axe was from a Frostgrave plastic sprue - cultists or soldiers?) wip is here Pics Oops - meant to put his in show off. How do I fix it? Mod help?

WIP #1 was animals. WIP #2 will be plants. Until Bones 3 arrives, I only have 2 sets of plant creatures. Spirit of the Forest and Mushrooms (a 3 pack). I decided to warm up with the fun guys. First sliced some mold lines. Not too bad and not being super picky with these. Here they are ready for their bath. After some hot water and a scrub with the old toothbrush, I mounted them each on their own homemade holder. staff on the big one was noticeably less bent after the hot water rinse. then they got a diluted coat of brown liner. next up... Base coats.

So I was at this store where they're selling off Skylanders toys at a steep discount... like a buck or two each. And I got to looking at this angry looking tree... I found that it had much in common with Jason Wiebe's "Spirit of the Forest." But bigger. Regrettably, it was painted to resemble a sort of World of Warcraft Pokemon. And so I bought a couple and began an experiment...

Last off the table, a group of Reaper Miniatures ordered during the 12 Days of Reaper promotion. I tried to stick to minis who will see use not just in Christmas themed adventures. The full group: Jakob Knochengard, who will likely see the table as a Witch Hunter for Mordheim: Nick the Holiday Rogue: The Yule Treant: Hecklemeyer, Undead Jester: Tinker the Gnome (I tried for a Disney Gepetto scheme on him)

Last minis for the year. No where near my goal, but two more for the Challenge count. I've also finally gotten a better photo setup. And a quick pick of his little buddy:

Having putty on my fingers and being in a sculpting mood while waiting for my fire giant's shoes to harden, I looked around for something else to tinker with. I quickly dug out the Spirit of the Forest. I didn't want my forest spirit's head emerging from its chest, so I made an attempt to raise it up, though still well hunched over. I drilled holes in the shoulders and the base of the jaw, and connected the head with soft aluminum wire. Also I carved away some of the alignment peg of the original neck joint. I think it needs some further adjustment, but it's a start.

The last of my recently finished works, a batch of mostly Halflings from Stonehaven's latest Kickstarter. Unfortunately, same with my recently completed Lizardguys, these had a case of fuzzy primer. I had taken several steps to fix it, but the further I got along the more obvious it became. Thankfully, the pictures seem to magnify the situation, and the roughness isn't quite as obvious in person. However, the rest of the batch is soaking in the strip for now. First, we have the titan of the group, the Old Growth Treant: A Berserker, Boar, and combination of both: A Barbarian, actually a refugee from Dragon Bait Miniatures, but he fit this group too well to leave out: The Halfling Thief, who has now had her hood issues readdressed after seeing how this album came out: A pious Paladin named Reed: A fiery-headed Archer who looks quite manic in this close-up, hrm: The Linksman, an athlete prepared for any encounter: A Stablemaster, because we always need some villagers: A Halfling Maiden and pet: Skelly, the Village Elder...and we they say Elder, they aren't messing around:

When I got my Stonehaven Halfling Adventurers Kickstarter miniatures, I wanted to paint the treant right away. It was an easy and fun miniature to paint, and I was happy how it turned out. I plan to make a special base for him but for now used the one that he came with.

For one of my Frostgrave warbands. Hyrekia and Morwen are getting this Crow Master as soon as they can afford him.

This guy was nerve wracking. I struggled a lot with the foliage, which I am still not happy with, but I finally got it somewhere I felt OK, and then I decided I wanted a glow effect from all the cracks in his wood, giving the feel of an animating energy. Applying that to a mini I struggled to get to completion was hard to do. I don't think I achieved my goal perfectly, but he looks pretty good aligned up against a bunch of hapless adventurers.

My earlier WIP experiment proved that I paint more regularly when I've got a little accountability. (I also paint more when my kids are at school, which will soon be the case once again.) I decided that I should start a WIP for the two pieces I was most interested in finishing, since they're somewhat related. I plan to use similar terrain for both, namely Pacific Northwest coastal. I'm also hoping to level up my basing skills and incorporate some water effect and possibly try to replicate some of the lush fern-type vegetation. Since these are both Bones, I'm not going to worry too much about achieving master-level quality of the paint job, especially since poor Autumn has some sort of skin condition that needs a lot of attention. These two are about getting something painted and learning more basing skills. Autumn was already started with a coat of Brown Liner and all of her base-coats down. If you look closely you can still see bumps on her nose, forehead, chest and leg. There was a lot of bumpiness all down the left side, I already smoothed out her left cheek with my hobby knife, then applied liner, sealer, basecoat, sealer, sealer. She started out as a quick stand in for a PC that is a druid with a water domain, but she's getting a little more love and attention than was originally planned. This Spirit of the Forest was in my Christmas stocking last year, and has been sitting on my shelf waiting since then. He's just got a coat of Brown Liner for now. He really doesn't need a base, but I want to do one so we'll see. I was hoping to have some of the new 3" rounds from the second Bones Kickstarter for him, but if I get impatient I might have to figure out something else.
