  1. So, I needed a little distraction from all the Reptiles and Amphibians... This guy just has had a nice comfy soapy bath and a trim with an exacto knife. Now drying and waiting for colours. Need to fill the gap between wings and back with plastic putty ( vallejo)
  2. I have recently been invited to a Kings of War Escalation campaign. I looked around my hobby room and much to my dismay found hundreds upon hundreds of unpainted models because I am a bad, bad procrastinator. As a result,I decided to do an Undead army, and have decided to use as many miniatures I already own rather than buying new ones, many of which come from the Bones Kickstarter 1, very very old GW models and some Mantic stuff I have had for years, the idea being that the undead army is a mishmash of former armies of ancient which all fought under the same banner, sworn to never rest un
  3. This was done for a fun competition where you were supposed to recreate an album cover with miniatures. I chose the Army of Darkness Official Soundtrack. It uses the same art as the Movie. :) All I can post here is a WIP, pic. The rest, as well as the final result can be found in the links below, due to nudity.: WIP / photobox images: http://i.imgur.com/nnpwbFv.jpg http://i.imgur.com/9du3P58.jpg http://i.imgur.com/ntIrUGC.jpg Final result. There was no way to fit all nine minis, along with the scenery in my photobox, so the colours / paint suffered a bit in this one, b
  4. Woke up this morning at 4am and couldn't get back to sleep. Decided to spend some time before going off to work painting up the Demi-Lich from Bones II.
  5. After working on her for more than a year, I finally finished the Countess. WIP here: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/65336-solarwind-countess-karnstein-bust-by-xherman1964/?hl=karnstein Many pics. So I will put them in a few posts: I learned a lot along the way. **** LADIES and GENTLEMEN and CREATURES visiting this Forum!!!*** **** I present SHE WHO RULES THE NIGHT!!!, THE MOST MURDEROUS ONE!!!!, THE LADY OF DARKNESS!!!!*** **** COUNTESS KARNSTEIN!!!**** *** That w
  6. I am going to start a larger competition entry, and thought I'd make this WIP thread to help me keep a red line on the project. The task is to recreate a cover of a book or album. Nothing to post yet, except the cover which will be my inspiration for the entry. I have had it in my mind for a while, and this comp gave me an excuse to begin. Bits have been ordered, and work will commence once they arrive. :) Maybe a little sooner. ^^ As there are some things I can do right away.
  7. Hey all, I thought I'd start a thread to share some of the other things that I have been painting. I started painting models around 25 years ago, mostly to be used for D&D. In the late 90s, though, I got introduced to Warhammer. I eventually painted up three big armies (Empire, Ogres, and Undead) but it was pirates and the nautical theme that really grabbed me. I am working on six smallish armies of Warhammer or Age of Sigmar, but I have also added lots of terrain and other models from Reaper. Here is a quick pic of a bunch of the models and terrain. I can go into more details late
  8. Since we're doing some modern stuff right now I thought I'd finish off some of these zombies. There's the Zombies! pack and some guys I think I got from Halloween freebies who are part of the Zombies (3) pack. Also, a skeletal archer who I got with this year's Halloween freebie and wanted to get him out of the way since most of my skeletons are painted. Thanks for reading!
  9. This is Reaper's 03681: Nazera Bloodraven, Vampire. I love her sculptural forms. Whichever way she is turned, there is some interesting movement going on. Bobby Jackson did a lovely job sculpting her. I used iridescent interference blues and violets on her armor. I am thinking about discussing how I paint reds. WIP thread here.
  10. My Reapercon painters entry; he earned a bronze. WIP can be found here: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/70844-vlad-von-carstein-wip-for-reapercon/ I don't know why it's that shiny; he's had 2 coats of dullcoat....
  11. I started this guy last year at Reapercon in the Convert a colossal skeleton class, and entered him into the open category at this year's Reapercon; he earned a bronze. WIP is located here: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/62739-colossal-skeleton-conversion-for-reapercon-2016/
  12. I'm currently working on the Bones 1 Grave Danger set as I head down the home stretch in my blog goal to paint and post all my Bones 1 Kickstarter minis. Just 11 more to go! This week I painted the Arrius, Skeletal Warrior, figure. I wanted to do something different than the standard grey/silver armor look, so I decided to go with red armor to make him a little more visually exciting. Other than that, it was a straight basic tabletop paint job. For the full step by step painting article, please see my blog: Arrius, Skeletal Warrior
  13. Since we're down to a little more than a month to the big show, I figured I ought to start working on some of my stuff, right? I didn't enter anything in the painters category last year, and I'd like to change that this year. I've had this figure for a while now, and I figured a horror themed convention was the perfect excuse to try and paint him. I'm not using that base; it's just to hold the figure up for the picture. I've got a resin scenic base that I'll be mounting him on. As I said, I want to enter this figure in the painters category, so please push me hard on this guy. I l
  14. So I started working on painting my undead army for Kings of War. It's going to take me a LONG time to get everything done at the pace I'm going. This is figure #1 of at least 150, probably closer to 200. The first mini I decided to start with is one of my hero units, Lady Ilona. She's a Mantic sculpt, cast in their resin plastic or whatever they call their "non-resin," non-polystyrene, castable plastic. I got her primed the other day, and laid down some basic colors to sort of get the ball rolling last night. I realized after I'd started painting that I'd apparently not really prepped her a
  15. Hey there guys been away for a while due to illness but while convalescing I made this diorama Its the Tin man arriving at the Wizards lair for a heart. However my Wizard of Oz requires Tin man to prove he deserves his heart through combat! Hope you love the diorama and as always comments are wanted and appreciated!
  16. Been thinking about painting these guys for ages. Finally pulled the proverbial finger out and started on them. Am going for that mottled cyanotic dead flesh look. Something a little gross. My only regret is that I missed a mould line on one. Might have to try and mask it somehow. Maybe once I add the final wet gooey layer to the minis. Thinking of using a mix of crackle and grit paint on the bases to make something with a hellish feel to it.
  17. This is Dragoth the Defiler and his throne, towered by an Undead Zombie Dragon. He will lead my army in Age of Sigmar. :) Magnetized, so he can change between ruling on his throne, and slaughter from his mount. ^^
  18. I finished up this guy today. Even though I'm working on other stuff, I still find time to sneak in some undead every now and then. Please let me know what you think.
  19. When I first saw the thread over on the Terrain Forum, where lowlylowlycook was painting up Kalladrax to use as Frostgrave terrain, I thought that it was a really cool idea; and I decided I wanted do the same for my Frostgrave games. So, I picked up a copy of Kalladrax, and last Thursday I got started on the project, and just finished up yesterday. If you'd like to see the full step by step Work-in-Progress thread, please see here on my Frostgrave Terrain thread; otherwise, on to the photos! :) I'm really happy with how this piece came out. I think
  20. Yes I am back with another installment of my ever growing horde of Zombicide Zombie Walkers. This go round I went with white as the primary color of choice. I even put a logo on the t-shirt of a walker to hint at what color I started with on the t-shirt. I then gave Choaswolf's dripping blood a try. I didn't have and Tamiya Clear so I used my blood recipe from the 1st groups of walkers to color the blood. Still needs some work on the technique but passable for table top. Here they are: Since the group is growing so much I decided to only show the walkers this round. Since
  21. So I'm trying to finally get my undead army built and hopefully primed. I've got in the realm of 200 miniatures to assemble, and it's my first time really dealing with multi-part minis since up until now 99.5% of my collection has been Bones. Some of them I've already assembled over the last week, some of them I partially assembled about a month or so ago, but most of them are still on their sprues. It's going to be a real experience for me. I'm already running into issues with storage for the assembled ones. The plastic doesn't seem to take well to being thrown in a box. Some of the m
  22. Like most Otherworld minis, these wights are based on early D&D art, and I think they represent the subject well, despite some difficult mold lines on the arms that wound up looking all right with paint. Anyhow, here's a preview before I commit to base decoration. The paint is pretty well near finished, but I welcome any suggestions to improve them.
  23. Hey guys been away for a while painting the mighty Khanjira!! What a great model to add to my ever growing Dungeons and Dragons campaign! I decided to give Khanjira a ghostly haunting look! As always comments are wanted and appreciated! Just to note instead of doing boring stonework for the base I opted for trying out Jade! Let me know if you think it works!
  24. Another batch of Undead, this time from Johnny Borg Castings "Dungeon Monsters" Kickstarter. The horde: Dead Sonja: Halfling Skeleton: Skeletal Elf Ranger: Dwarf Zombie: Dwarf Skeleton: Goblin Skeleton: Zoblin: Orc Skeleton (with odd Mickey Mouse gloves): Zorc: Rattlin' Ratling: Rotting Ratling: A verminous duo: Undead Lizards: Skeletal Lizardfolk: Zombie Lizardfolk:
