  1. Well after watching @Rahz paint up some of his Black Plague Abominations, I decided I wanted to get started on mine. So I though I'd gather up a WIP of my Journey through all the Zombicide Abominations. Modern: Season 1, Toxic CIty Black Plague: Core (x2), Wolfsburg (x2),Rat, Alpha, Troll, Blob, and Minotaur I decided to start with the Core BP set Abominations. I also wanted to try out my scale 75 F&G Unnatural Skin set. So here is where I begun.
  2. So, this may seem to be an odd question, and it probably is. In terms of standard fantasy RPGs like D&D, AD&D, Pathfinder, and OSR what really differentiates a zombie from a skeleton in terms of undeath? Is it just that it has skin where a skeleton does not. So if a zombie loses all of its skin does it then become a skeleton? A variant zombie?
  3. Sent this out about 3 weeks ago. Tracking said received so posting photos here. Wish my photos picked up the greenish ghoul skin tones better as it appears to blend with the bone tones but looks a bit better in person. Also there is dirt / grit on the skeleton that didn't pick up well either. Nonetheless, I was fairly pleased.
  4. Hi all, after much lurking I've decided to post some of my minis I technically posted once before but I just realized looking at the old post that it was over a year ago! I'm really going to have to pick up my painting rate given that another bones pledge is about to be delivered! So I can definitely tell I like painting the bad guys better than the PC characters, probably due to spending too much time DMing. Anyway, here's some recent ones I painted. As always feedback is appreciated! First a couple beastmen from the Warlord line: How about a golem and some undead as tomb guardians? I diced up a skeleton into the base of the bone fiend too. You can kind of see the boot. I have painted some character figures as well recently. Here's a few Elves with an Halfling. I need to work on my faces more though. Humanoid faces are so much flatter than monsters'. Anyone have any tips for varying humanoid flesh or adding details to faces that that sculp might not define well? Thanks! Much appreciated!
  5. I remember that the first Imbrian Arts KS had a lot of issues and delays, but I don't know whether it was eventually sorted out or not so if any previous backers have any info it would be worth speaking up. The minis look good though
  6. And you can always use more zombies on the table. These came from KS2. They painted up pretty quick, base coat and a wash and they were done.
  7. I realized that I had not posted the results of my completed Zombicide Fatties. Well here I am to remedy that. Several photos to follow. Note that these were taken at different times and on a couple of different camera's.
  8. So what class would a Undead Hunter be? Paladin?
  9. A little something I picked up from my FLGS's discount bin; this 54mm scale mummified minotaur comes with a choice of horns and pole-cleavers to attach to an otherwise simple assembly. Here are the parts laid out before priming. I still struggle to decide which horns and weapon to build him with. Using one means not using the other, after all, but I figure they'll find another place to go eventually.
  10. Curious if there are any ghouls out there in mini-verse to represent the shorter races like gnomes & halflings. thanks! EDIT: Never fails.... I found one on Heresy's site. It's not a demi-human but it would probably work + they have some other minis that might fill some other rolls as well.
  11. My take on Orcus, in a diabolical red. Cheers, E.E.
  12. I thought it might be best to consolidate my ongoing Red Ghoul efforts under one roof. The previously completed miniatures are pictured above (from Reaper, Otherworld, and Fractured Dimensions). The latest additions from Reaper, Otherworld, and Wyrd (AKA Dennis, Margret, and Ruff). More pictures and details of these three at Minis by Finch.
  13. I had so much fun with my slimes I decided to do a few more translucent minis I had handy. These are the Grave Wraith and Nightspectre (somewhere else I have a Ghostly Summons 77095, Labella DeMornay 77096, and a spare Spirit 77098 that I will paint another time). I wanted to do these quickly, so it's ink mostly - the same ones as with the slimes, plus maybe a few darker phthalos. I've done a coat of glow in the dark medium for each (photographed), a coat of the not highest green, and picked out the skeletons in the nightspectre with a wash of medium and brown liner and base coated the grave wraith's sword and tombstone in a dark blue-grey. not photographed Eventually everything will get a drybrush of spectral glow (and maybe another, mixed with maggot white, in a few spots). For the nightspectre, I'm going to try and treat it as a fire and get darker going out. With the wraith, I'm going to go lighter out from the bottom centre. Plus highlights for both. The goal will be for them to be mostly translucent (and glow in the dark, because everything gets that medium). Hopefully I'll figure out how much direct light, and how much medium I need to be able to photograph this. Photos later today in subsequent posts.
  14. Greetings! Presenting Reaper's January 25th Anniversary miniature - Grim Reaper. This was quite a straightforward mini to paint, done in a veritable rainbow of dark colours. Working out how to do the hourglass (glass) was a bit tricky, I painted it all black & added a layer of light brown for sand in each half (level with the ground). I wanted to try & make the actual glass purple tinged so I gave the top of each half a purple spot dry-brush then coated both halves with a purple glaze. this did help to tint both the empty & full sections of the hourglass in colour but it's probably too subtle & can't really be seen on the pics. Finally I gave the glass parts a gloss varnish. 1 Down, 11 to go......... (hopefully!)....... Thanks for looking!
  15. This is a Heresy miniatures zombie that I got out of a Box of Goodwill. She's supposed to be a modern zombie, but I think she looks simple enough that I could use her in fantasy, too.
  16. As I'm sure most of you do in these exchanges, I end up picking parts of the request to focus on. In this case I went with a winter base and OSL. Generally when we think of OSL we think of a mini painted with a zenithal light source and then the OSL is a secondary light source that colors part of the mini. I decided to do something different though and make the OSL my primary light source. Initially I wasn't going to have any secondary lighting, but that made things a bit boring from certain angles so I added in some moonlight. In the scene below the primary light source is the end of the staff. Anything illuminated by the staff I painted "normally," though with the highlights and shadows were orientated to it and not zenithal. Anything not lit by the staff is lit by desaturated "moonlight." For some reason I had difficulty getting the light balance correct on the photos but it's still pretty close. The mini itself. Here we start with normal colors: But as we get to her back the light desaturates until eventually the light source is blocked. Also, a bit of freehand. And a bit of milliput dust on the black base. It wiped off but I didn't redo the photo shoot. From the side you can see how I tried to put all of the highlights towards the staff with deeper shadows further away. The base. So far the battle has not gone well for the undead. I cut two of them apart so they could be caught in the moment of being blown apart. The inner light is a bit subtler on the armored skeleton. The eyes are so deep that you can only see the brightest parts from a very small angle. Now that I think about it I would have been better off to fill the sockets and freehand the surface. Ah well, for next time. : Here's probably the angles where you can really see the desturated vs lit areas best. And the top view. I don't currently have a way to do a light box for this angle on something this size so it is just sitting out on the table. I think these might have turned out the most color accurate though. I used some crackle medium to make the ice, and didn't realize that it did not adhere very well. My first drybrush took some of it off and I had to put it back in place. One thing I couldn't quite decide on was the cast shadows. Normally I just consider the scene to just end like it has been chopped off, but that leaves a gap of vertical snow in some places. Maybe I should have taken them down to the wooden base... I had initially planned on more freehand, but ran out of time. Thanks for looking.
  17. Here is a group of speed painted bones skeletons I painted back in February. I spent maybe 4 hours total on all of them. I am still planning on adding some plant materials to the base. Skeletal Spearmen (77001) Skeletal Archers (77017) Skeletal Swordsmen (77018) All the bones skeletons I have painted so far: And all the skeletons I have ever painted, because I love me some group shots. The ones in front (and back) was painted over 20 years ago, before I started basing. Miniatures from Grenadier, Ral Partha, Rafm and of course Reaper.
  18. I haven't been posting much lately. Not sure why. But I finally finished up my Season 1 walkers. Thought I'd break my photo inertia with a group shot of them on a game board. Not my usual photo set up and not as clear as I could have wanted, but here they are.
  19. So, I needed a little distraction from all the Reptiles and Amphibians... This guy just has had a nice comfy soapy bath and a trim with an exacto knife. Now drying and waiting for colours. Need to fill the gap between wings and back with plastic putty ( vallejo)
  20. I have recently been invited to a Kings of War Escalation campaign. I looked around my hobby room and much to my dismay found hundreds upon hundreds of unpainted models because I am a bad, bad procrastinator. As a result,I decided to do an Undead army, and have decided to use as many miniatures I already own rather than buying new ones, many of which come from the Bones Kickstarter 1, very very old GW models and some Mantic stuff I have had for years, the idea being that the undead army is a mishmash of former armies of ancient which all fought under the same banner, sworn to never rest until a great evil has been banished from the land. Plan is to work it up to 2500 points in a few months... We will see if I can keep my painting game strong. Here's the startings of Lord Calder's Host... Pictures after the drop. -------- "Before you sign this, you need to understand that swearing fealty to Lord Calder is no small measure. I've seen those eyes before. Dreams of adventure and romance, tasting the first blood on your blade, and helping slay the evils of the world. Maybe you're in it for the coin, dark knows I was. I know the rate of pay is high, and I promise Calder can pay it. Whatever your wildest dreams, you sign with us, you'll get it. But you gotta understand boy, Calder don't give nothing for free... This contract don't end with you toes up towards the sky, the ravens feasting on your soft bits, your family safe in the wealth Lord Calder pays after you take a stray arrow in the face. No lad, this contract is binding. For today, tomorrow, and the hereafter. We all die. Maybe you'll die on the field of battle a month from now when some unknown evil claws its way out of the earths to tear apart every man, dwarf and elf across the realm, dying in a pool of your own entrails to protect whatever sweetness you keep at home. Or maybe maybe you'll die old and wrinkled in your bed, a legend among men, songs sung and glories burned into the histories. We all die. All of us. But son, you gotta understand that someday, he will call again. It don't matter how long you've slept. I swear you boy, You'll wake." ------ Comments and criticism welcome! Promise Reaper minis will be included soon.
  21. This was done for a fun competition where you were supposed to recreate an album cover with miniatures. I chose the Army of Darkness Official Soundtrack. It uses the same art as the Movie. :) All I can post here is a WIP, pic. The rest, as well as the final result can be found in the links below, due to nudity.: WIP / photobox images: http://i.imgur.com/nnpwbFv.jpg http://i.imgur.com/9du3P58.jpg http://i.imgur.com/ntIrUGC.jpg Final result. There was no way to fit all nine minis, along with the scenery in my photobox, so the colours / paint suffered a bit in this one, but all in all I am happy with the result.: http://i.imgur.com/WPU1HEI.jpg
  22. Woke up this morning at 4am and couldn't get back to sleep. Decided to spend some time before going off to work painting up the Demi-Lich from Bones II.
  23. After working on her for more than a year, I finally finished the Countess. So I will put them in a few posts: I learned a lot along the way. **** LADIES and GENTLEMEN and CREATURES visiting this Forum!!!*** **** I present SHE WHO RULES THE NIGHT!!!, THE MOST MURDEROUS ONE!!!!, THE LADY OF DARKNESS!!!!*** **** COUNTESS KARNSTEIN!!!**** *** That will do Furball!!!*** *** BEHOLD MY BEAUTY!!!!*** *** NOW BOW TO ME!!!***
  24. I am going to start a larger competition entry, and thought I'd make this WIP thread to help me keep a red line on the project. The task is to recreate a cover of a book or album. Nothing to post yet, except the cover which will be my inspiration for the entry. I have had it in my mind for a while, and this comp gave me an excuse to begin. Bits have been ordered, and work will commence once they arrive. :) Maybe a little sooner. ^^ As there are some things I can do right away.
  25. Hey all, I thought I'd start a thread to share some of the other things that I have been painting. I started painting models around 25 years ago, mostly to be used for D&D. In the late 90s, though, I got introduced to Warhammer. I eventually painted up three big armies (Empire, Ogres, and Undead) but it was pirates and the nautical theme that really grabbed me. I am working on six smallish armies of Warhammer or Age of Sigmar, but I have also added lots of terrain and other models from Reaper. Here is a quick pic of a bunch of the models and terrain. I can go into more details later.
