I was excited to be at Reapercon this year. There was so much I learned! One thing was shading to make figures more realistic. This was the figure I used to learn on. The only thing is, I wish I knew what figure it is - name and number. I'm trying to keep a log of colors used for figures. Anyway, I'm going to work on this next when I finish Benedikt

This grouping is a little eclectic because I was experimenting with a new medium. While I was at Reapercon, James Wapple introduced me to the joys of using oils to help me work on my tabletop minis and my blending. When I got home I found I had everything lying around except for some quality thinner so I got some of that, sat down and gave it a try. He has a number of YouTube videos describing the technique better than I ever could but it basically uses the fact that oils have an exceptionally long drying time to allow for some really nice wet blending without developing chalkyness or the layer steps I always get in dry blending. The oils being a heavier body also seems to help me give the mini a fur effect of different hairs across the body What I found was a new method, for me, that should help me clear a lot of army minis and take them from primed to done and looking good in a very short period of time. First thing I tried wss a whitehorm stag that I had sitting next to my desk when I got home. It was by wizkids and pre primed so easy pickens including setup that was about 40 minutes work and my first try. Next up wss a hippogryph which has been haunting my shelf of shame for 4 years now because I could never get the horse part right While not as good on the feathers (feathers aren't easy for me and these are barely scored enough to show detail) I finally got some results on the horsey part that I actually liked: nice warm red tones and highlights that don't look painted on. The chest feathers in was also able to get some highlights into that don look drybrushed. And again, this was another 40 minutes or so. Finally I decided to try some rats that I needed for a (hopefully) upcoming Rangers of Shadow's Deep campaign. Since the method Scott showed me uses #6 and #8 brushes I was curious how it would work on Such a small mini. I think it did very well, again giving me noce highlights in the fur without looking drybrushed and without taking a huge amount of time (30 minutes for the lot) Not too bad for my first few tries. I especially like how the greys and browns turned out but even the white rats have some character. I am certainly going to give it some more time and minis, both for animals and a huge group of Wrath of Kings minis that have languished in the back of my shelves for years. Does anybody recognize this mini? I got this mini from a forum trade or lot purchase some time ago. I do not know who made it or any details about it. It is made in white metal, came in two parts with body and the head and came with an unmarked tab to go in a slottabase. I tried using my Google-Fu, but all I found was a couple posts stating this is a Chainmail miniature, from the short-lived Wizards of the Coast miniatures line from the turn of the century. However, I do not think it is a Chainmail mini, as I do not remember seeing such a mini in that line at that time, it does not appear on any Chainmail listings and does not have any markings on the tab like Chainmail minis have. Also, I think they were a bit more finely detailed in general. I put it on a 30mm base

So I painted this big guy up. I don't know who manufactured him or what he's made of because he was given to me by a friend. It's a heavy fig and it might be lead. If anyone has any idea what this is or who manufactured it, please let me know! I went with a classic green lizard man colour scheme. I added a pic with a regular sized min for scale. I believe he's a bones mercenary?

Inspired by this post by Darsc Zacal, I'm starting a new game, "What Mini Am I Anyway?" Anyone can participate. The idea seems to be to see if you can identify a miniature from its silhouette and possibly some clues. Thematic groups are not required, but can add to the fun. This is the image that spurred the idea: Clues: This is a party of PCs in a game loosely (very loosely) based on White Wolf's World of Darkness. Two figures are from Reaper; I mentioned the sources of two of the other figures on these forums last month. One figure has been modified by the removal of a weapon. Players are encouraged to identify the figures by company, name (if any) and SKU number (if any). Prizes are, um, the respect of your awesome detectoring skills and "Likes".

Besides having never painted one of these, I found it primitively challenging. I messed around with clothing, texture, miniature details, blending, and finally the gemstones. That was a lot of challenge, six colors working to make a sparkle was a lot of fun. Think I pulled the larger ones off. On the head and chest. I thought I was almost done when I saw the tiny, tiny, ears showing up in the hair ! Dang, how am I gonna get them in ! I kept it simple, and didn't go nuts on the basing. Second last model for the Foorians and Miniotaur I posted earlier in the forum. Ocean themed with green and blues for the skin. It's another Confrontation model, and again done with very little blending. Mostly glazing and feathering for a fast turn-around. This one took yesterday afternoon - around 4 1/2 hours. I also have no idea what model this is. If anyone does, let me know! Thanks for the info Xherman!

I could have sworn I already asked about these, but darned if I can find where. I got given a handful of old school lead figures from a couple of generous sources. Some of them I figured out immediately what they were or lucked into info on the Lost Minis Wiki. But these ones have me stumped, despite in some cases clear markings. May I ask for some help from the collective wisdom? I believe most of these to date from no later than 1991 or so. They have been primed and washed with a thinned brown to bring out detail. 1. Some sort of pretty early orc-goblins, no base markings (subsequently glued to pennies). I found pictures of them in a group image on ebay with information so inaccurate it was laughable. Identified by K2h2m3 as from the Grenadier set AD&D 5002 "Monsters", Goblin w/ Axe and Goblin w/ Sword, 1980-1982 2. (Central figure only) A wizard with upraised staff, manufacturer unknown, base markings unclear. He's the figure in the middle (the other four are identifiable as from the old Grenadier boxed set 5001, "Dungeon Explorers"). Identified by Rob Dean as from Heritage Models set 1302, "Evil Wizards and Ring Wraiths", FF2-A, sculptor unknown, circa. 1980?, no later than 1981-1982 3. A witch, base markings "MP90" or "HP90" and something unclear Identified by Xherman1964 as Metal Magic C1017c, "Witch with Cat", sculpted by Michael Immig, circa 1992. 4. Possibly an elf? Identified by knarthex as Ral Partha 01-319, "Elf Thief 3 Stage" 319b (stage two), sculpted by Tom Meier, circa. 1986. 5. An unusually tall for the time ninja, apparently signed "Ridolfi" on the bottom and with the possible date "90" Identified by Bob Ridolfi as one of his earliest efforts with an extremely limited distribution, see post 17 below. 6. A fighter, possibly a paladin with a mace, very clearly marked "Grenadier 1991 A644" -- and I still can't find any information or visual confirmation on him! Identified by alchemist as from the Grenadier set 1414 "Fighting Men Champions", sculpted by Mark Copplestone, 1991.

So I found yet another box of older miniatures in the attic the other day, and in it I found this. I simply had to slap some paint on it: Metal mini. I expect it is some sort of swamp-thing, cave dweller, or what have you. It said Ral Partha underneath, and on the side of the base it said "S.Garrity". Presumably Sandra Garrity who also has done a lot of minis for Reaper. Does anybody recognize this mini?

Hello folks, I recently finished this one that had been standing around on the shelf of shame for ages. But I do not for the life of me remember what it is. Does anybody recognize this miniature? I suspect it might be something from the early 2000s Wizards of the Coast D&D metal miiniatures line, it is made of hard, slightly yellow metal. It might maybe be something Cthulthuish, I don´t think it is a RAFM one though.
