Reaper Bones 77160: Judas Bloodspire, Vampire (converted) For my first Iron Kingdoms RPG session, we spent a good portion of the time writing up character sheets, and not everyone came to the table with a concept -- so I didn't have everyone's custom minis ready (not knowing any better than the players what they were going to play). One of the players decided to go with a Gun Mage -- basically a spellcaster/gunslinger who specializes in infusing his pistols (and the ammunition therein) with special effects. I used a cowboy proxy for the first game, but to get the proper Iron Kingdoms look, I needed something with a long button-up, coat, tricorn hat, and very antique-looking pistol. There are official Gun Mage minis from Privateer Press, but none of my friendly local game stores had them in stock, and I wearied at the thought of putting in a mail order for ONE pricey miniature that might or might not arrive in time for the next game. So! Time to dig into the Box o' Bones! I wanted somebody with a fancy coat, and I'd already put the Bones Captain Barnabus Frost to use (as a Khadorite conversion), but Judas looked like a possibility with a few tweaks. My figure had a very bendy sword, so my initial plan was to chop it off and put the gun in that hand, but I decided to give the "dip it in boiling water" method another go. I've had spotty results with it in a few cases, but here it worked PERFECTLY -- it was rather uncanny, the way the blade straightened out on its own once dipped into very hot water. (Note: The right arm is actually a separate piece that comes glued on, but it's fairly easily snapped free. Therefore, I was able to dip JUST the sword into hot water, without having to subject the whole figure to the treatment.) Given that the sword looked just fine now, I decided to make the mini a lefty. That was accomplished by chopping the left arm off right at the joining point with the shoulder pauldron, drilling pin holes, then reattaching with wire at an adjusted angle. The trickier part was in taking a sharp hobby knife to the outstretched hand -- originally in a sort of "reaching out for something" pose, but I managed to extend the thumb, shave down the inside of the cuff, and hollow out the palm and thumbpad area so that a pewter "dwarf pistol" (from a Warhammer Fantasy sprue) fit nicely in, with the index finger going over the trigger, and bent-out thumb fitting behind the stock. For another conversion project, I had transformed a few plastic Clix "Crimson Skies" aircraft into passable starfighters -- and starfighters don't need props in space! (Technically, they don't need WINGS, either, but that's beside the point.) That left me with a few little clear plastic circles that were used to represent spinning props, and I've kept those around just in case they might be handy. I used one to slip over the barrel of the flintlock, and painted Khador runes (it's a letter substitution code) around the circumference. I've picked up quite a few HeroClix and HorrorClix minis on the cheap, including quite a few that were acquired simply for any translucent plastic "special effects" on the figures that I might be able to use for other purposes. One of these was a figure called "Shaman" -- basically a guy sitting in the lotus position, supported by translucent blue "lightning" effects. While that's a cool enough thing on its own, I don't need all that many people in spandex, so I got this just for the lightning. ;) I trimmed off a strand with an interesting-looking crook to it, and inserted the narrow tip into a hole that I'd bored down the barrel of the flintlock. (Thankfully, the flintlock was actually thick enough in diameter for me to do that!) The intended effect is that we've got the character firing off an enchanted bullet, and in my imagining, this one is some sort of lightning effect ... although I confess that I don't even know if that's an option for a Gun Mage under the rules, so -- artistic license!

Hey all, Now that I've got my Kickstarter Bones, I decided to start a separate WIP thread to help motivate and inspire me, as well as share my discovery process, flubs, thoughts, mistakes, and accidental successes with everyone. I'm brand new to this whole painting miniatures business, so any and all comments and advice are most welcome! I'll try to be as detailed as I was with my first (and so far, only) mini WIP, since a lot of people seemed to appreciate that; however, with roughly 250 minis to paint, I may not have the time to be as thorough. Unless noted otherwise, all paints used are Reaper Master Series paints, and all minis will be Bones figures from the first Reaper Bones Kickstarter. So, here's my take on the giant vampire bat from Super Dungeon Explore. Part of me thinks I should have gone with bright green to match Dracula's "True Form" from Symphony of the Night, but for some reason I decided to go with a more subdued color pattern. Here he is.

So here is the treat I got with my Reaper order last week, along with a couple of relatives: Strahd, a Warhammer Fantasy hero, and Reaper's own classic Vampire, 03248. I like the flesh on that last one the best; I might have to go back and repaint the others. Dark Elf triad, final high-light mixed DE high-light mixed with the Shattered Bone 9273 that came with my order. Once started on the Halloween theme, I had to keep going with Pumpkin Horrors, 03356. I used the Reaper HD Burning Orange, hit it with a brown wash, high-lighted with the Pumpkin Orange 9270 that came with my order. Oh, and the hats are high-lighted with the Nightmare Black 9280 from the same. No bases on these as they will (probably) never be used in a game; they might end up in a diorama someday. I really enjoyed painting these. I got Rotpatch with my order, so I have more evil pumpkin painting in my future. And some older stuff I had to dust off. From left to right, an old AD&D banshee from Ral Partha, a old Ral Partha miniature that Iron Wind Metals still sells, a Mithril Miniatures figure, and my first crack at the Bones Ghost. And finally, the beastie that will eat the PCs in my next D&D session. Not really Halloween, but in the ballpark. Oh, and in the back ground is a Games Workshop Garden of Mor I recently painted up. hi, I want to include some vampire minions bad guys in my game... there are several types and I am having trouble finding suitable miniatures. type 1- think Selene and the death dealers from underworld. basically female in trench coats with small bladed weapons... I was thinking of getting the 'not selene" from hasslefree but buying a bunch of them would be cost prohibitive... I found some horror clix that might do the trick... called razorvixens.... but they are not quit right.... Anyway, any help appreciated... in game they are slayers (from the advanced class guide) with the alacritious template from the advanced bestiary... and wear mithral armored coats... and use short swords and throwing knives....

I told a friend it was either going to be green and diseased, white and albino or classic Dire Bat black. I ended up albino-ish brown, lol. If only Reaper had Dire Bat variants I would totally pick them up. Hope you enjoy. quite a large bat

Hi, I found another pretty good looking mini on Indiegogo. Looks like a amazing sculpt of a vampire and her throne. I will probably be getting this soon. Getting a really awesome Lilliana vibe. Of course the only downside is the 54 EUR price. Idk so far this and scale 75 have comparable prices. IMO I prefer this one, also this one comes a little faster if on time. There is also a chance to get the other works that Michael Kontraros has made ..... for 150 EUR. So, I'm really bored tonight and was looking at the KS rewards and the name Spider Centaurs kept catching my attention. I can't get the image of centaurs (regular, horse-human ones) dressed up in red and blue and swinging around their forest on spider webs after being bitten by magical spiders. I propose that henceforth these model be referenced (at least unofficially) as Arachnitaurs. That is all.

So, my most recent work. I am quite happy with how he looks in hand. Comments and critiques are eagerly sought by all. Also, this is the first mini I have ever painted that I have given thought to posting in the inspiration gallery. What do you all think, should I,or should i wait until my skills improve a little more yet?

I was asked to paint a few Reaper miniatures up to fit in with an undead Mordhiem army. As this is outside of my comfort zone I thought it would be a good idea to do a WIP so I can get some feedback on them. The three figures are Reaper's 03345 Ridley Darkedge sculpted by the incredible Julie Guthrie, 03496 Castrus Vile sculpted by the great Guy England and 0390 Ilkhand the Bloody sculpted by the wonderful Werner Klocke. I hope to included lots of photos as I paint, but unfortunately I sometimes forget. So to start I prepped Ridley tonight and boy did he need alot of work. I spent alot of time removing mold lines first with my scalpel, then with files and finally smoothing him out with some fine grade sandpaper. Then I washed him in some soap and water, after gluing him to a square base with a start of some sand I primed him gray. After I saw him primed almost as always I saw a few issues which needed corrected. So since this is a WIP I shall share all my mistakes in hopes it may help someone avoid them. Here he is all primed with a few issues which I will fix before painting. The area behind his arm I will use some liquid greenstuff and level out, after it is dry I will use a bit of brush on primer. The tiny speck of either dirt or metal flash I missed on the cloak I will simply take my scalpel and cut it off and prime as well. The sword since it is so tiny and I don't want to spend the time with liquid greenstuff I figure a bit of superglue applied carefully with a toothpick with fill in the tiny pit mark. Although since I only primed him tonight I want to let it cure until tomorrow until I mess with it as it will help keep it stronger and that way I do not risk gumming it up. I will take an after photo before I lay some paint down. To help visualize a color scheme I printed out some black and white photos of the mini from Reaper's site and applied paint to it. This helps me get a better idea for my base colors and allows me to make notes as to what colors I used to start with. Here is a quick iphone picture which does distort the colors a bit but it should give you an idea. I learned this trick from both Derek and Marike and it certainly helps me with color as I sometimes really struggle with picking colors. We settled on the colors in the second picture. The cloak with actually be a base color of P3's coal black and will hopefully have some freehand added before he is finished. That is all I have to share for now I hope to have time to paint tomorrow and will post more then.

First up, Victoriana from Bombshell miniatures. Obviously I went with purple dress in a muddy outdoorsy scene. Then I finally managed to finish 2 mouslings that had been sitting there almost completed since 2011.... Finally some speedpainted bones, less than 2 each on paintjob for vampire chick and innkeeper, about an hour for miss strumpet. Edited to add SKU to title and added more tags Thanks for looking!

Hello! Finally forced myself to put aside the craft paint. What am I going to do with a vampire flesh triad, I thought? Every time I wanted to reach for the old colors I stuck to the challenge: only the stuff from the Kickstarter. I wouldn't normally use the metallic gold but that was part of the challenge. Overall loved this paint. Base coats went on without thinning. The paint has a tendency to run if you thin it too much when doing highlights and shadows, but I was pleased that the learning curve wasn't steep. Everything about painting this figure was fun. I also worked on much more detailed eyes than in the past, and made a base out of air-drying clay from the craft store. Super easy to use. I was asked the question, "what the heck is going on with her b00bs?" "Well, there was chill in the graveyard air that night..." Cheers.

stopped into goblins tonight to pickup some paint for my troll and low and behold one of the employees runs across the back parking lot and grabs me by the shoulders and shakes me while telling me that first of their bones have arrived. excuse the glare, the store faces directly into the sun. I refrained from tearing them open with my teeth. So here's the cool part, the owner wasn't worried about making a profit on this box so he said I can have it for the base cost of the vampire level (+tax ) I texted my friend and decided we are going to split the vampire between us for $50 a pop tomorrow when we go in for our Wednesday game.

So I just got my Reaper Bones Vampire-level in the mail maybe two hours ago, and I wanted to ask some questions to members who have perhaps worked with this plastic before. My modeling experience is mainly Games-Workshop. I guess the most urgent question I have to ask is this: A large portion of the miniatures that I received (25% +/-) are kind of warped; I know this plastic is a soft medium, and all that good stuff, so I wanted to know how to bend things back into place, and have them become more rigid. Should I immerse them in hot water, bend them, then immerse them in cold water, or what? I just want the swords, staves, and bases to not be so crooked. Secondly; for painting these, I assume the best method is merely to prime them and paint them like any other miniature, yes? My primary concern is the warping; a lot of the swords/staves are way off, and I have one model that's totally borked (some robotic monkey thing I'll never use, so I'm not going to bother filing a replacement claim) Thanks in advance!

My housemates and I went in on the Kickstarter back in August, while I was on the other side of the country, and I was the one who submitted payment. We thought that the 110 Liche level was just Vampire + Sophies, and went for it as an upgrade-- the Vampire level was really what we wanted, we just thought "$10 for a bunch of succubi? That's a steal!" But no, no, that's not how it works at all. Will I be able to switch it back to the Vampire level and drop the Liche level altogether? We put together $220 at the Kickstarter, for Vampire + box of sophies + lots of optionals, and I'm hoping that we won't have to give up our grab bag of various dragons to get the Vampire package re-included. :(
