  1. I am so excited about this but I've got some definite hurdles to jump over to get it done. I feel this is the only place I can share about this because I'm fairly confident the recipient won't see it. I am painting a 3d print of Zinogre from Monster Hunter. I know nothing about this but I've found some good references. Thus far I've spend 2 hours on just prep and I'm not sure I'm done. It's a decent sized mini, about 9 inches long and 6 inches tall at the highest point. My big struggle so far are the print lines. The picture I saw before I accepted this looked pretty smooth. When I got it I was surprised how much you can actually see it. Thus far I have primed it with Stynylrez (grey) by hand and done 2 coats of gloss varnish/medium to start to reduce the appearance and feel of the lines. I've still got quite a bit of texture to deal with and I don't really want to go through half my gloss varnish to get it smooth and risk losing the subtle details. So if anyone has any ideas of how to fix this further without starting over and spray priming I'm all ears. I was lucky enough that my friend had an extra copy that was slightly smaller and had some printing issues. I've been using this to test things out before I commit to putting it on the model. I did a test patch of primer, then gloss, then primer again and that feels smooth. This is where I'm at (spoiled for big pics):
  2. Non-Mini, PC Video Game - Dinosaur / prehistoric animal Tycoon. Accurate models, highly customizable gameplay I know it's not mini-related, but I also know some of you might have kids who like dinosaurs (or like them yourself), and this is a good educational game because they actually did research, applied current and up to date science to their models, and i figured some people here might actually be interested. If not? Ah well! I just thought i'd make a post for it There are 50 Species planned for Early Access, with more planned "Prehistoric Kingdom is a modern take on the tycoon simulator game genre, focused on building and managing your very own prehistoric-themed zoo, populating it with a large variety of extinct animals and opening its gates to the public for your guests to enjoy. As such, our main goals with the project can be brought down to three major aspects: Ensuring a high level of customization for buildings and their placement modes, allowing for almost limitless creative potential. With multiple creative tools provided to help you build the ultimate prehistoric zoo, the possibilities are endless. Providing a fairly realistic and scientifically accurate in-game depiction of each animal, from its looks to its sounds and behavior. Each and every creature is designed and created with the utmost love and attention. Offering challenging, detailed, and enjoyable management mechanics that will immerse you even more in the very world that you built! "
  3. This miniature is from a Midlam Miniatures kickstarter. The lack of highlighting and shading is intentional since I was going for the single-color arcade look. I had to put some putty over the sculpted eye holes to get a nice flat surface for the cartoony eyes. Overall I'm quite happy with Inky! This is for the video game theme portion of the RP Challenge.
  4. About In “A thief tale: Ars Draconis” we put ourselves in Thyra’s shoes, a young woman whose skills as a thief have turned her into one of the Citadel’s most wanted. She will be assisted by many fascinating allies who will help her solve all the puzzles hidden in this huge Victorian city, its intrigues, conspirations, and of course find the answers to the gaps in her knowledge about her past. In an island amid the vast ocean the wind whispers rumours about an ancestral object… Thyra, a reputed thief herself, won’t let the opportunity of acquiring such an object go away, and she will try to make the most out of it – whether that implies selling it to the highest bidder or using it. But the mysterious object attracts the attention of the three factions fighting for the Citadel’s control, and they will do anything to get it for themselves… even if that means burning the city down. "A thief tale: Ars Draconis" uses the basic mechanics that have made 2D action games wonderful and challenging, We wanted the gameplay to be familiar to all those who love the genre and at the same time to add unique elements from multiple videogame and tabletop role-playing games genres, creating an experience that invites players to stay in The Citadel. Experience a hectic adventure In this narrative, inspired in pen-and-paper roleplaying games, you will enjoy an elaborate and extensive adventure full of secrets, conspirations and charming characters who will appear along the three possible paths through which you can decide the Citadel’s destiny. Aside from the main plot you will have several sub-plots available, all of which will help Thyra see the events in a whole new light. We estimate about 40 to 45 hours of gameplay including all plots but... there will always be some new secret in store for you in the Broken Valley Island! Two heads are better than one Thyra won’t be living this adventure by herself — her odd friend Sokrattes will be by her side from one end to the other and advise you in key scenarios. Even better — you can switch between both of them and pick the best solution to each one of the situations you’ll have to face throughout this adventure! And what is more, if we reach our multiplayer goal, you will be able to play both characters at the same time with the help of a friend. Clean-cut pixel art The world in “A thief tale: Ars Draconis” revolves around a victorian city full of retrofuturistic and fantastic elements. Everything in the game, from scenarios and characters to animations, is created using traditional pixelation techniques. We aim to honor those classic games that made us, both the old and new generations, enjoy so much back in the day. To do this we rely on our pixel artist, who has more than ten years of experience in the field. An unforgettable soundtrack We are decided to dedicate as much time and effort as possible to create a soundtrack able to transmit each and every sensation Thyra will feel in the numerous and assorted settings that the Citadel has to offer. To achieve that we have bet on orchestral integration with classic chiptune, giving a retro and epic feel to every situation. This being a very complex task, our studio counts on one of the best Galician musicians, who has been on tour both in Spain and Europe with renowned artists as Jose Rubio or Pacho Brea. Pick your weapon Our combat mechanics are based on old-school action games and platformers, to which we have added a wide variety of weapons and gadgets that will make for a dynamic combat, allowing Thyra to mirror the player’s preferred combat style. As any self-respecting thief, Thyra will have to be stealthy and always go for the most discreet way to do things. We have implemented a complete system where everything counts: the sound of our steps, the enemies’ field of vision, and even the noise we make when we knock out (or kill) any guard standing between us and our goal. Exploring the Citadel From the beginning we’ve been adamant about offering you a world in which you will be able to find the path that better suits you and shape your own story. That’s why the Citadel is an open world environment for you to explore to its full extent; be it to learn about its history, steal valuable treasures or plan your next heist as you think best.
  5. So I've got a private server running for the Steam game Ark: Survival Evolved. (on PC sorry @pcktlnt) If you would like to join, just search for Sable Star in the server list. Password is GetontheDino It is running the Structures + and homing pigeon mod. Taming speed is permanently at 3x. Only rule is DON'T BE A DICK! There is a Reaper discord chat server if people want to voice chat.
  6. My wife told me that it is her favorite of the toppers I've made. I suppose she's not alone in that, since another couple requested one. Here they are. I'll probably need to make one to keep sometime, maybe for our anniversary (we decided that Cortana was a good enough name for our daughter, after all).
  7. www.kickstarter.com/projects/iga/bloodstained-ritual-of-the-night An exploration-focused, side-scrolling platformer featuring RPG and crafting elements. Koji Igarashi, the namesake of "Igavania"-style games, is leading the project, with Michiru Yamane composing the music and Inti Creates leading the development. If funded, the game will be developed for XBOX One, Playstation 4, and PC. For the first time on Kickstarter, backers will have the option to receive actual PS4 / XB1 / PC retail discs. Already at 2.3 million. Very interested in the game myself.
  8. So it appears that there will be a video game based upon Mordheim. http://www.bluesnews.com/s/150208/mordheim-city-of-the-damned-announced I have fond memories of playing the game and hope that the electronic version doesn't suck. From the write-up it seems to mirror the original miniature game and they say that there will be a single player campaign as well as multi-player support. I am hoping for the best and expecting the worst.
  9. Some of you may remember me talking (and complaining about) Skylanders. This game has all these neat little figures which you put on a "portal of power" to make that character pop up in the game. The figure stores all the character information so that you can go to a friend's house and play with them, even if they have a different system. Just recently Disney released Disney Infinity, which works on the same concepts. Well, now check this out. It's like DnD with figures... as a video game. It's all futurey!

  11. Knite & The Ghost Lights: (Wii U, PC, Mac, Linux) I found this Kickstarter and was impressed with the fact that everything in game is built in miniature as claymation and then converted to video game and the lowest buy-in at just $10. Here's the main character, Knite, shown within the environment of the game. This kind of video game is so cool as it applies to my skill set and style. Description of Game Play: Knite & The Ghost Lights is unique take on the classic side-scrolling action adventure game - filled with puzzles, platforming, hidden surprises, tons of magic and exploration. One of the most fun and unique features is the way the game lets you play with light and music to control your surroundings. Be ready to experience: Beautiful hand-crafted environments with meticulous attention paid to every detail Unique use of lighting that plays an integral part in gameplay and puzzle solving Lush music and soundtrack that is seamlessly woven into the story and gameplay. Eccentric cast of characters that truly bring Mistland to life Unparalleled level of realism and depth – all game objects built from real-life models I personally am in for the sound track level at $10 but might just boost it to help ensure this gets made.
  12. So I was browsing around Steam instead of painting minis last night. I found they now have a section for games that are in development, but still very "raw". I guess a lot of people want to replicate the success of MineCraft having sold millions before the game was actually finished. In that section is a game named, "Prison Architect". It's pre-alpha right now but the video really made me want to give them $19.99. It was the best laugh I've had in a while watching a video. I especially love the line about, "exclusive access to game breaking bugs"... then they go on to list a few and show some footage of them in action. I'd recommend anyone who is into video games or could just use a good laugh to go to Steam and search Prison Architect.
