Here's another I got through this weekend. Was trying for NMM on the armor, but I think it came out more just yellow armor. Ah well. I still think the look is cool. Tried adding in some matte varnish to my black paint I did on the base. Dude. That's the way to go. Will be doing every time from here out. Also fun: didn't use any black on this model. As in not even shade colors.

This was an exceptionally difficult one for me, but one I'm very happy with the work. I saw this model and thought how cool it would be to do a skin tone coming through under the veil. I wasn't sure about the NMM all over it, but I think it still works. I also realized too late that the thing she's standing on is a felled statue instead of it being a giant acorn. Woops. Seemed like another fitting Halloween model. What do you think? Anything to improve or recommend?

The unrelenting, swarming, terrifying tide that is known as the Skaven... Also known as "skrit skrit of death-death to all, but maybe save a few bakers as they make delicious cookies and cupcakes!" I'm playfully blaming a wolf for this thread, but it's a different one for a change. This time it was @Chaoswolf! This is going to be a looooong project. Arguably it already is, since most of the initial contents of this army were purchased over a decade ago, but I have a tentative goal in mind of "fully finished by 2020" which gives me a year and eight months to work on it in between all my other projects - a goal I hope I can manage. It was originally supposed to be assembled six weeks after I purchased the 25th anniversary army box, and then there'd be a campaign, prizes and whatnot, but being stupidly busy with work kind of prevented that from happening back in the day and I wound up backing out of that event/tournament. Later on, Isle of Blood was added in. Either way, I've always wanted to have a big, GINORMOUS HORDE OF DOOM, and the Skaven definitely portray such in my eyes Always did like their lore, and more importantly, the models, the fluff, and the fact they're murderous, backstabbing buggers! Eshin has always been my favourite, but Skryre is definitely a close second due to their shiny shiny blasty murder-kill anything in their path. Why the focus on Pestilens though? Well, truth be told, any good kill-kill stab-stab from the Skaven is going to be comprised of the various different factions, but the biggest part is that their models are some of the most eye catching to me. That and I already had a bunch of them, so I figured why not! Their siege weapons are also rather lovely, at least the Plague Furnace. I'm still debating about the Plagueclaw, but for now I still plan on having two in there for symmetry and versatility At the moment, I only have about half (or so) the units I'd like to have, but I'll work on acquiring the rest over time. What do I have right now? (Spoilers added to be friendlier to mobile users) (So.... Assuming I counted correctly, we're talking 201 238 minis) And what's being added in? (So.... about another 243 small models, 2 small siege units, and 11 siege weapons/behemoth added in bringing that to a grand total of 444 481 small units, 2 smaller siege units, and 11 large siege weapons. It's 454 491 small models total if you factor in the Mordheim models I probably have kicking around somewhere o_O) Just for my own calculations, I'm writing down in a spoiler what I think will wind up being the entirety of the army... ...I kind of figured that if I'm going to go in, I'm going to go ALL IN. Sure, it's technically an army that's illegal to field due to too many leaders (18/8 if you include the on foot Grey Seer, 17 if you don't), and too many behemoths (7/5) with the new AoS rules, but it will give me that nice variety I crave, and flexibility to play in pretty much any size game. It will also look downright insane on a shelf once it's done I suspect. Technically, it's also a 8,940 point army as currently written, but that's just using info from the Warscroll builder, and not making use of any Battalions, which could theoretically change the composition of this army, and have me add (or possibly subtract) models. Come to think of it, odds are I'll wind up taking a good look through the 9th age's website to get ideas for various other miniatures, because while this is technically an army I might field, I just want a nice, varied horde, and nothing says varied quite like adding in minis from several other companies ...Doubly so when some of their miniatures are a lot nicer looking (like say, the Jezzails, or even rat swarms). For example, Otherworld, Reaper, and Windmaster all have models that can easily fit in ~_^ Now... No good thread is without pictures, so here's a part of the reason why the next several orders from Reaper are going to have a decent amount of bases in them... ^That there is what I've been able to round up so far that isn't still in a sealed box. At least most are assembled, but there's that one annoying thing... They're all on 20mm square bases, and Age of Sigmar tends to prefer them being on round bases (most being 25mm, but some being other sizes)... Not to mention the fact i tend to prefer circular bases anyways. Thankfully, I used superglue for almost all of them, so that will help IMMENSELY. I'll also be doing up bases for each and every one of them, which is probably going to chew through a decent amount of my various supplies, given that the last time I did up some bases (earlier this week) I chewed through half of the 200g of Magic Sculpt I have (although to be fair, there were 2x 60mm and 16x 25mm bases for my Tau, even if it was just the broken concrete stamp it still uses up a good amount of putty). I also greatly prefer the nice lip that Reaper's bases have, because it lets me try and have the added in designs be relatively flush with the "expected" height, unless I otherwise plan on having them be higher (like say, for heroes and/or leaders) ^ So here we have the bases for what was originally going to be my Censer Bearers, but it turns out those are supposed to be on 32mm bases, so instead these will be for my Poison Wind Globadiers, which rather works out because those haven't been based yet ...Happy fox to say the least. ^The top most 40mm base is for my Warlord (which will feature a decent more rubble on top of those cobblestones), while the other two are for two of my Rat Ogres. The 18x 25mm splintered deck bases are for my Night Runners. When I make the other 22x bases, I'll make sure to have more raw material so the details don't get squished when stamping. Most of them turned out alright, but some of them you could tell I didn't have enough and/or really should have had the stamp against something solid instead of my fingertips. Up first will be the poison wind globadiers.... Once I clear up a bit of room on my cutting mat anyways, I kind of have a bunch of gnolls, kitsunes, and minotaurs taking up that space right now ^_^;;;;;;

Starting early last year, I fell off the Warhammer-Free bandwagon and started picking up boxes for a new Genestealer Cult army...which was my favorite army from "back in the day." Those boxes (and boxes, and boxes...) sat languishing for nearly a year before I cracked open a selection and glued them together. I tried to do a new (to me) style of painting, and just couldn't grasp it. I should have worked on some test models that I didn't care about first. Anyway, that gap between expectation and reality stalled the project and I eventually just decided to continue doing things the way I had been. But that meant I'd either have to redo all the minis I'd started, or replace them...GW being GW, and with the history of diabetes in my family meaning I'm likely to need both kidneys, meant repainting. Which brings us here. I need a change from HeroQuest, so it's time for the Genestealer Cult to arise! I've only got a couple "before" pictures that represent the jumping off point. These were all base coat and wash stage. And I just couldn't process it. The wash was patchy, the colors didn't look the way I wanted, etc. This probably could have been salvaged, but I just hit the wall and "couldn't." So they sat. Starting last week, I've been pumping my time into making the upgrades. Some things are better, others aren't. Not better doesn't mean "worse" just that it's not "better." This will be a WIP log for the entire army (currently 4,000 points worth), not individual units. That list is extensive. Currently 1+ of everything in the GSC model range (with multiple Combat Patrols and Start Collecting boxes) excepting any Brood Brothers (Imperial Guard/Astra Militarum) units. IF I get that far, that will be a whole 'nother thing of loyal, absolutely not renegade, guard who are all totally not mutants and whose cult of the (four armed) Emperor is absolutely not heretical. They're all normal there. The first round of pictures is rough: it was late, I was tired, etc. We start with the Patriarch: I've gotten the carapace 2/3 of the way redone. I started with Corporeal Shadow with the intent of using Worn Navy and Soft Blue to bring it up a bit, but there's just not enough difference between CS and WN to justify it. So I just used Soft Blue over the Corporeal Shadow and will use Heather Blue on the highlights. Heather Blue is actually a good match for the color I originally used on my Purestrain Genestealers from the original army. The red fleshy bits are currently Bloodstain Red. The spines and claws are still in need of work, as is the base. That will be coming soon enough. That brings us to the Maga/Magus and the Kelermorph (a rootin', tootin', three-armed shootin' alien hybrid). I've only redone the Maga's skin with the Rosy Skin triad. I've touched her brow ridges, and will hit those with Heather Blue to lighten the transition a bit. That dress will remain gold, and the boots will stay red but I'm working on the exact colors. The staff is the one actual piece of base coat and wash that I liked. I might leave that. The Kelermorph has had his flesh redone (Tanned Flesh triad), Bloodstain Red on the fleshy bits under the carapace, and the same Corporeal Shadow, Soft Blue as the Patriarch. His cloak is Uniform Brown, Green Ochre, and Faded Khaki on the "outside" and Stormy Grey, Cloudy Grey, and Rainy Grey on the interior. The trousers, which can't really be seen here, are also Turkey Brown, Uniform Brown, and Green Ochre. The Aberrations are a sort of shock troop--early mutations and experiments unleashed when the time is right. They mostly have Imperial Purple, Amethyst Purple, and a mix of Amethyst Purple and Spectral White for their trousers. The exception is the leader who has Turkey Brown, Uniform Brown, and Green Ochre. The carapace started with Heather Blue and was followed up with Morning After Blues and Ghost White. I've employed the same Tanned Skin, Golden Skin, Rosy Skin and Dark Skin triads that will appear later for the Hybrid Neophytes. The red fleshy bits under the carapace are Red Shadow, Bloodstain Red, and Clotted Red. The red Aberration is Bloodstain Red, Clotted Red, and Carnage Red. The grips on the weapons are done up in Deep Ocean, Marine Teal, and Surf Aqua which is a surprisingly adequate version of Makita's blue... More coming "soon!" Which brings us to the Hybrid Neophytes, the backbone of the army (seriously, I'm going to end up with about 120 of these guys--some with shotguns, some with slug throwers). The basics have already been described: standard flesh triads, uniform colors, the same blue on the heavy weapons, etc. The armor is Aged Pewter and I'll be using something to give a bit of a different base but I'm not sure quite what. It will stay mostly the Aged Pewter, though, to give a different vibe than standard silver colors. The trousers are the same (Turkey Brown, Uniform Brown, Green Ochre), and the jackets/shirts are Uniform Brown, Green Ochre, and Faded Khaki. The belts and straps are Green Ochre and Faded Khaki. Working with the same few colors has helped keep a unifying look and kept me from being too bogged down in the infinite details on the models. I plan on keeping the red trim, but I'm not certain which red it will be.

My first group of Marines I created with Raging Heroes models,Space Wolf,Marines and Incursors parts. I was going for a Buzz Lightyear with NERF blaster motif. I tried to make these models as "playable" as possible. Without actually knowing what that might entail. Pointers welcome and appreciated.

This one is in two parts. First one was the color test. The second one is the one I finished using said color test. i used the Next Level Miniatures KS mini for the magenta-blue test. Worked out well enough to try this scheme and lighting effect on a model I really liked. Here's my 3rd of the Hexbane Vampire hunters I have completed. Using a similar magenta-blue base and scheme. Pretty happy with how it turned out. Leaned stunting new on pairing all colors on the model with the same two base colors. The lighting effect got muddled with my adding in more colors, but I think the piece still translates well enough. Any feedback is always appreciated. Also worth saying again that those Next Level Miniatures are smaller than I prefer. Feels like I've got a ton of minis that are only going to be testers.

I painted my first Kroot model. Very fun! I wasn't sure what color the skin should be, so I just went with a color I thought could blend in to many scenic areas. In this case I picked him for desert. He stands out enough but also ties into the environment. Open to feedback here. Adding this in case you want the colors used.

Good evening all you Reaperniks! So tonight I've got another Stonehaven Miniature completed, sculpted by Mike Evans. This one is a halfling barbarian, who reminds me a little bit of the feral kid in Mad Max, don't have any idea what his name might have been, and a tad bit of that one Cha-Ka character in Land of the lost. I think it's just due to all the big hair this gal's got. anyhow without further ado here she is: and with the original drawings from the Kickstarter I think I kind of kept with a desert, browns and oranges color scheme. Anyhoos, enjoy!

Hello everyone, here's the fifth dwarf of my Slayer unit. This model was sculpted in the mid-90s by Aly Morrison. Since I have two of these models in the unit I decided to convert this one. He was a standard bearer, I swap his banner for an axe. It was ll painted with Reaper MSP Color, here's the list;

Hey everyone, I hope you are having a good Friday. This week, I started painting a GW Dwarf unit from the 90's. This one is a Giant Slayer sculpted by Aly Morrison. It sits on a 25mm Stony base by Txarli Factory. As I have two of these models, I wanted it to be different from the other. So I removed one of his axes and added the runes to his ax handle. Orange being the dominant color on these Slayers I opted for purple on the base. I thought dark purple would be a great color to represent a deep underground setting or a battlefield in the Chaos Wastes, where my heroes will eventually face the forces of Chaos. I only use Reaper MSP paint and will add a color list below. Reaper MSP Color list;

Since i didn't have my paints with me while on break, i was hungry to get back to it. I guess i wasn't as full of turkey and stuffing as i thought. As I'm posting this, i saw on his left leg that he's got an unpainted seal. Dang it! I made the bands on the blade smaller. Added more metal details. Added more accent color. Tested two new paint color (silver grey, red. And German Grey). Each did great. His backpack gave me some trouble. I was gluing it on, but the post didn't push in and then it broke off. Ended up doing some surgery back the but it's on.

So, i don't know if this is okay or not, but i wanted to share them. I had never painted any warhammer stuff. Both because of the cost and the fear of getting caught up in that universe. Well... it started. I bought my first set of intercessors back in January, but never touched them because i just didn't feel able to take them on. There's some amazing painters who do these and i always felt inadequate. Gotta start somewhere though. I started watching a ton of videos on them and put some ideas together. Here's my first ever 5 painted. I tried to test two paint schemes green and blue. I think they both came out great. having never got into these before, i now see the reason people like these so much. Very fun but very time consuming. Would love your feedback.
