  1. This guy was an experiment in a bunch of things. Trying to underpaint then glaze - I feel like I learned a bunch even if the results don't show it. Didn't turn out how I wanted it, but I also like the end result. Trying to do a basic OSL - I think I have an idea of what to do when I want to try it more seriously. Another try at fluorescent medium (didn't work) - this was the lure and the OSL. I forgot to add VGC Warlord purple to the gills, and I didn't feel like going back after I noticed. The WIP is available here I wanted him to look a bit shiny - so I went over the scales with a g
  2. I got a chance to paint Tre Manor's Gnoll Warrior, the Bones version. Love this guy--I spotted him when I visited a gaming store that actually keeps Reaper stuff stocked, and he became my first in-store Bones purchase. But, anyway. I "primed" him with gray liner and went from there. I don't know why I painted him gray instead of brown; because Disney, maybe. I remember those Lion King hyenas as gray, though I'm not even sure of that. But I shot for gray with black trim, such as it is. This was my first time putting gold metallic paint over a dark base, and I absolutely loved that. How meta
  3. Big fan of werewolves. Hope you enjoy.
  4. Finally painted another Reaper figure after far too long, my WIP thread of him is available here Wish I could've done something to make the patterning on his 'skirt' stand out, but apart from that I'm fairly happy with him. Comments and criticisms are, as always, greatly appreciated.
  5. I tried to make his sword and eyes glow with mixed results. Overall, he came out better than I expected.
  6. Here's the other Fantization mini I ordered. I'm not 100% happy with his face, but then again I'm not usually happy with the faces... Elthan Silvermane, Dragon Slayer As always, C & C welcome!
  7. Here is the Barbarian King, from CMON Miniatures (I think). I painted this one (along with Arwen and Kalee) to bring my total score of painted miniatures up to an even 40.
  8. This is the dynamic version of Kalee from Hasslefree Miniatures. The miniature comes with a axe which I'm not that fond of, so I cut it off and replaced it with a sword from Tre Manor's Red Box Games (one of the helsvakt weapon sprues).
  9. Hasslefree's Gwen (HFH074) for your enjoyment: As always, C & C welcome!
  10. Here are yesterday's efforts, the Bones version of Freja Fangbreaker. To be honest, I wasn't really sold on this sculpt until I started painting it, but now I am a believer. She has a lot of haughty, kick-elf attitude. I decided to keep the base simple as she has a lot of little details that I didn't want to be overwhelmed by an ornate base. Questions and comments are always welcome. Thanks for looking!
  11. I painted this guy as a Christmas present for my mom. He was inspired by the first dog my parents had while I was growing up - a beagle named Tungsten. A couple of random goals I had were to use the airbrush that I got for a Christmas present last year, and to try something new (the freehand on the edge of the cloak). I kind of waited a bit too long to start on this miniature, so there are some definite shortcuts I took, but I'm still very happy with him.
  12. Started and finished today, I present Hasslefree's Kain: As always, c & c welcome!
  13. Guy of Gisborne here is going to be my Christmas present for my mom, so I'm trying to knuckle down and get him done this weekend. I'm taking a short break to post the progress so far. There are a couple inspirations for this miniatures - the first dog we had growing up was a beagle named Tungsten; and my mom has a "dog" bathroom (it's decorated with dogs, it's not for dogs). The cloak is finished except for a few stray brushstrokes I need to clean up. The fur and armor are "basecoated" - they will need additional details. I expect the tabard to give me trouble, and to look a
  14. Couple of Lizardman from my latest batch of photos. These guys are pretty quick paints, not a lot of unnecessary details bogging the process down, just some great textured areas that allow for quick depth with little effort. C+C welcome as always.
  15. I finished this mini a couple of weeks ago, but just used it in a D&D game I'm running last week and got around to take pictures yesterday. My players encountered the blue half-dragon Langdedrosa Cyanwrath in Episode 3 of the Hoard of the Dragon Queen. Like zoroaster100, I looked into Reaper Lizardmen, Reptus and Gaan-Hor warriors for a suitable miniature. I decided for Gulark, because I really liked his halberd. The color scheme is loosely based on a picture in the book. C&C welcome!
  16. I am running Hoard of the Dragon Queen for my D&D players, and they faced off against Landerosa Cyanwrath, the half blue dragon warrior last session. I realized I didn't have a suitable mini so I speed painted a metal Reaper fig, the Gaan-Hor Warrior, to represent Cyanwrath. The Gaan-Hor is supposed to have wings but Cyanwrath doesn't have them so I did not attach the wings before painting him. I also had a new player join last session and he is going to play a silver dragonborn fighter. I used a prepainted mini for the first session but this weekend I painted up a Bones Dragonman Wa
  17. Here's the final pictures of my speed paint for the Dragonborn Paladin. He could be much better, but I really wanted to just speed-paint him and get him to table top quality without spending too much time on him. Anyhow, C&C welcomed and appreciated! Reaper SKU: 77060 - Dragonman Warrior Material: Bones WIP Thread
  18. Finished something for a change! This is Tempest, she's a fierce Dragyri Warrior from the Dark Age range and you can find her WIP here. Really pleased with how she turned out, and I think I levelled up my blending skills a bit working on her. Any comments and critiques are most appreciated.
  19. Here's (yet another) side project, as I (slowly) work on my Galleon: As always, C&C welcome!
  20. This is my Alice vs. Wonderland diorama I entered in my local con. It took third in diorama/vignette. I don't have a big enough photo setup for the whole thing so please excuse the pics. I was trying a reimagining of the classic tale with Alice and some Wonderland characters as badasses. Alice is 14311: Kassandra of the Blade. The Cheshire Cat is 02480: Sabertooth Tiger and the White Rabbit is a Darksword Rabbit Warrior. I sculpted the rabbit's watch and the paintbrush. The wickets are staples and the croquet balls are pin heads. The cards were downloaded, then printed, cut out and glued toge
  21. Hi guys, I'm new to the forums here and after recently completing Anval Thricedamned as a commission piece, I thought I'd share my final work with you to see what you think. I'm always trying to improve my technique so any constructive comments or critique are welcome.
  22. This is going to be a really quick WIP, mainly because I'm generally done. I've got another layer of color to put down on the base (the first is drying), and then a wash for the bases, assembly, then clear coat protection. So this entry will probably be wordy. Last Christmas I was visiting my brother, my two nieces and a nephew. One of things I like to do is go to his FLGS (although he doesn't know it), and it's a really really nice store. Anyway, the middle niece picked out a Bone's Fire Dragon. And my brother said NO! I could have killed him! So I decided then to buy one for her and paint i
  23. Here is the Black Guard I set from GameZone miniatures (SKU 0451). There was an awful lot of armor plates to paint on these, so I had to force myself to finish them up, but now that they are done I am happy with how they turned out. The metals are shaded metallics, with silver as the highest highlights.
  24. After over a year of sitting on my painting table, I was finally able to finish this guy up last night. He'll see some game time at some point or I may through him up on Ebay and see if anyone wants him. I wanted to use some brighter colors on this guy. The colors go from Leaf Green-Green Ilse-Blue-Purple. I glazed in the darker green, the blue, and the purple, then highlighted up to where I wanted it. Simple browns for the leather and wood and black for the harness, eyes, and antennae. Thanks for looking!
  25. I don't know where this mini originally came from. One of the players in my game has a big pile of old minis someone gave him a while back and this was from that stash. We are using him as Crownguard, Knight of Solamnia, an NPC in our DragonLance campaign. As a Knight, his armour should be really fancy, but as an NPC I didn't want to spend the time on him. So, instead I worked on my dry brushing technique! He was *super* fast to paint. I did a base of white primer followed by a black wash. I dry brushed him with white, and then drybrushed on the gold and silver (they don't show up m
