  1. Hey everyone, Here are some more photo's from the WIP The only thing missing is a wooden round sockel I ordered, but that will take another week at least before it will be back in stock and then shipped. She was a valentine gift for my girlfriend and she really loves her. Hope you all do too! Linked for nudity and made new photos http://myalbum.com/photo/opvqdNChQn9X/1k0.jpg http://myalbum.com/photo/xzR4iBRwKGHV/1k0.jpg http://myalbum.com/photo/rmSFJTGPv126/1k0.jpg http://myalbum.com/photo/b3kVyjHfabHC/1k0.jpg http://myalbum.com/photo/fupjpk9bHxoH/1k0.jpg Any C&C is
  2. Hey everyone, This is a work in progress for a finished piece. I finished her yesterday but couldn't post the work in progress, because it was a valentine gift for my girlfriend and she sometimes roams the forums too. She picked this model a while back when I was ordering and told me right from the start she wanted something golden green. I painted the dryad gold green and was my first real blending on a miniature that small. It turned out pretty well although my shaking hands still bother my painting skills at times. I mixed the green gold with VMC golden olive, VGC yellow olive, VGC glor
  3. The Old Way. I can't count the times I've read a book or story with "The Old Road" in it. You know the one ... with perfectly paved stones and only a century has finally brought it close to becoming overgrown. This is one such road ... yet time wasn't the only culprit this time. No, this time water had its part to play. So I took a second 4" cork round and after some brief consideration about how much was water and how much was land, I started removing the cork. I left a lot of the cork for shallow water but I also took the cork right down to the MDF. Then with my shape made
  4. I've always been a fan of the Dark Maiden sculpts and started painting the standard Warlord version last month. The idea that I had for her was a bit more lively than the version DKS has up on the store page. Rather than being all ghostly I had a more lively animating spirit in mind. I painted her upper body in a fairly normal manner and then blended her dress down into wood. She's still animated though, so her skin is not actually painted with normal "skintones." Instead it is painted using the same paints that I used for the normal wood, just mixed together a bit differently. Speaking
  5. My first time painting something in Translucent bones! I attempted to go for 'breaking waves' sort of look while trying to maintain transparency Took two pairs of photos, on black and on white backgrounds
  6. So. I tried painting some minis without WIPs and found myself having a hard time keeping track of what and how much I had done. So I'm back, although these may be sporadic and really slow to update. We'll see. Anyhow, after painting a lot of tiny figures for the January Bones Beauty Pageant, I decided to move in the opposite direction and tackle some of the big figures from Bones I to clear out room for Bones II. So I am painting dragons. Five of them, if you count the Frost Wyrm. Each one gets its own thread, though, since I don't know how I'm going to progress through them. I'm painti
  7. I'm trying to recreate the containing vessel from the Prince of Darkness. I've got a container that's an appropriate size. I'm wondering how to get the liquid in there. I've looked at the deep pour water effects thread but the issue that concerns me is multiple pours and making it look weird. I'm looking for suggestions on how to fake the effect but on a large scale. The container fits a normal human bones easily, w/ base (ok so it's bigger than the one in the movie, but it's the closest I can find). Please post links to examples if you can think of some. Thank you.
  8. Here we have my finished 77310: Water Weird. The plinth was worked up from a base of Peacock Green to Pure White through a succession of glazes - I was playing around with how high I could take it and have it read as stained marble. The 'gems' I left translucent and coated with Tamiya Clear Blue. The runes were picked out in Vallejo Model Air Silver, then tarnished with Black Ink. The water weird itself is three different 'strengths' of Taimiya Clear Blue. The base coat was diluted 2:1 with Tamiya Thinner. I then hit the crevices on the figure with a 1:1 dilution, and finished
  9. I rebased the lesser elementals (Reaper 2538) that I painted up several years ago. While doing so, I also gave them a touch-up paint job, the fire elemental got his flames reversed in several places for instance. Front picture linked due to nudity: http://www.coolminiornot.com/369633?browseid=10757476 Edited to add SKU in tags
  10. My earlier WIP experiment proved that I paint more regularly when I've got a little accountability. (I also paint more when my kids are at school, which will soon be the case once again.) I decided that I should start a WIP for the two pieces I was most interested in finishing, since they're somewhat related. I plan to use similar terrain for both, namely Pacific Northwest coastal. I'm also hoping to level up my basing skills and incorporate some water effect and possibly try to replicate some of the lush fern-type vegetation. Since these are both Bones, I'm not going to worry too muc
  11. Working on a whole bunch of new things here. This is Deva the Blessed in springtime. Apparently everything is popping up all over, including the undead. This was going to be an entry at Reapercon, but now I may not be able to go so I wanted to share it here. Working on my presentation, and starting to play with water features using heavy acrylic gels. The plinth is from a large amount of chestnut I have squirreled away from a time when I knew a person with his own private lumber mill. I am also working on my photography skills and my lighting. Comments and critique are always wel
  12. Attempted to make two playing spaces of terrain in two nights for an Infinity tournament at my FLGS. While its not finished by any means I thought I'd share some pictures. To avoid a mile long post, you can find a blow by blow over at my blog. As the great MonkeySloth says, the first step is planning. Went back to my drafting class and made a scale layout. IMG_1843 by LittleRukh, on Flickr Base is 48x48x1/4" plywood. Foam is 1/8" "fan fold" insulation. IMG_1846 by LittleRukh, on Flickr Tunnels in place, starting on side one of the stream. 13. Just like the (adventure camp site) & (2 wheel adventure wagon/cart); this is a game playing piece. The adventure group needs to find water to replenish their waterskins, the horse needs water to drink...and most important (adventure group hygiene)...think about it...you have been in the wilderness for 5 or 6 days (you have developed an aroma that creatures downwind of you can smell for miles). As a (GM), I demand that the group maintain the best hygienic standards possible...This is a scratchbuilt piece out of modeling clay...the photo with the figure is just to show the scale/size of the
  14. I appologize for the photography. I still have not mastered the art of taking minitures. This guy was fun to paint, but I really am not a fan of the sculpt, I won't ever order one, but if I can find him 60% off in the bargain bin again, i will gleefully snatch him. Here he is, comments, critiques, tips to improve my skills, all cheerfully accepted, along with cash cheques, and all major credit cards.
  15. I've been working on getting some bases with water in them, expect a tutorial, and did some experiments over the past few days and I thought I'd share them since some of this won't go into the tutorial. First off I'm not trying to replicate a generic water color but something that matches this picture (which is the basis of my project's color scheme). I plan on working on getting a more blue water, as well as some swamp water, but I need to get some more inks as I have limited pallet at the moment. Next up is the materials I'm using which are P3 Turquoise Ink and Citadel Devli
  16. Hi everyone, it's a great pleasure for me to show you the model I've been working on since three week. 02788, Leorelex the Dragon Lion was sculpted by Geoff Valley. I hope you'll enjoy it. C&C welcome. I've been documenting my experimentation with Realistic water effect on the base, here's the link to the WIP.
  17. I have a mini that I primed using Krylon primer (spray on oil based I believe). However, before I got around to painting it I realized that I wanted to make some additional modifications to the mini (with green stuff). In addition, I noticed the primer got rubbed off in a few areas. I don't want to spray the entire mini with primer again, so I was thinking of touching it up using some of Reaper's paint on primer. Will this probably work without any issues, or is it bad to mix different types of primer on the same mini?
  18. Greetings everyone, I was hoping to get everyone's solution for using Woodland Scenics Realistic Water product on your bases. More importantly, I'm hoping to find information about how to keep Realistic Water on a non-recessed base! So what's your secret to keeping the product on there while not getting a funky concave edge or bulges? Or on a round base? Thanks in advance for your help!
