Here is my pewter version of the Eyebeast. This is my project going model-by-model down the Bones I Kickstarter rewards images through all my models, and logging them as WIP. And bringing along any pewter versions I have for the ride. This is my most ambitious attempt to date. A mini-campaign I’m running some people through calls for many kobolds of varying colors and classes. I had 12 Kobolds from Bones I, the 4 pack in metal that those were based off of (03064), the metal Leader and Sorcerer (03024), the 12 awesome new kobolds from Bones 4, and a 7 pack (I may have gotten a freebie, I thought I bought a six pack) of kobolds from the Ral Partha TSR Official D&D 2nd Edition line, stamped 1989. That’s a whopping 37 figures. I want to paint tribes from all 5 chromatic factions, and want to have as few duplicate poses per faction possible. The Ral Partha kobolds have a more simian or canine face compared to the more reptilian face of the Reaper models, but I’m still going to fold those into each faction. The Adventure calls out a Cleric (Red) a Ranger, (Green) and a Sorcerer (Green). Those are the only ones with specific art, and I have models representative of each present without need for modification. Also, I am not planning to add to the bases at all. And I want to finish all of this in about a month (unlikely)! Wish me luck!

This is an animal companion to a kobold Ranger in a module. The character art has it light green with dark green stripes. A little cliche, but I don’t care. There are two arm choices. I went with the ones making it look like he was grabbing something. Got him ready with white primer.

Since Callie is coming to a close, I have been preparing the Oxidation Beast. I have one in metal also, so I will paint both together. I had some 40mm hollow, round lipped bases that seem like a good fit. I used some styrene model train cobblestone for one, and sculpted dressed stone tiles for the other. I plan for one to use the 5th Edition Monster Manual color scheme (Bones) And the metal one to follow the Pathfinder Bestiary 1 color scheme. It has a red with black stipple color scheme.

This was a very fun group to paint. They also went very fast. I finished them in January, but just got around to photographing them. I can't pick a favorite, they all have so much personality. I tried some OSL on the fire elemental's base. The camera settings were changed on the solo shots of the air elemental to tone down the white from overpowering. It ended up kind of dark. Enjoy.

I finished these in January. I just got around to photographing them. They may show up in our Reign of Winter campaign. The blue and red ornaments were an experiment with mixing regular paint with metallic medium. I wasn't trying to make their eyes look like they had pupils and were looking up. I was trying to make them look like soul-less lumps of ruby or amber, but I think the happy accident works fine. It makes them look like they are concentrating on getting the star onto their tree top. I painted them both the same base green, then washed them with different colors, one blue-green, the other green-brown. They then got hightlighted differently: One Moth Green, the other Olive Green. The result is some ability to differentiate them on the table even without the other differently colored details. Enjoy. C&C Welcome.

Here is a water elemental I finished a while back. Some of the pics look a little darker, as I messed with the gamma on the camera to try to prevent the white washing everything out. This is an oldie-but-goodie, with a sculpt that has a lot of character in the "face." I wanted it to look like it was coming up out of the water at the beach, so I made the base simple like beach sand. Enjoy. C&C Welcome, as always.

I started painting these in 2007! I had received two sets on clearance from a gaming website. I picked them up again briefly in 2011. I had just purchased a bunch of Vallejo Game Colors. I recently picked them up again to get them off the shelf of shame that they seemed to be permanent fixtures of. Sadly, the VGC Paints were not able to salvage. One of them was more done than the others, so he looks a little different. The front right of the first picture. I finished them off quickly with Reaper paints. This was the first time I primed minis white, then built up layers of very thinned basecoats. It made these guys much brighter. Sorry some of the pics are out of focus. I am thinking to do the next set more black/red or more of a realistic lizard scheme. Enjoy.

I am a character in a Reign of Winter campaign for Pathfinder. The DM gave me a list of monsters we will fight, and a fairy type fey is in there, so I figured it would be a great excuse to paint my Joy. I haven't tried blue skin before. That was the reason I wanted to copy Wren's version. Here are some pics. This is the first time I've used my iPhone for pics. It does a good job getting close, but the white balance seems a little yellow. Someone had asked Wren about Reaper sparkle paints. I went ahead and tried some Sparkling Snow in the wing membranes, but it didn't show enough in hand. So, I glazed the wing membranes and her cheeks and her base with a very thin layer of Vallejo Model Color Metal Medium. You can't see it well in the pictures, but it is a nice effect in hand. I was least happy with the base. I tried to sculpt snow overhanging her base with green stuff. Just not the effect my mind's eye was seeking. I am most happy with her eyes and face. I tried to glaze some pink and purple and sparkle into her face to warm it up and give her some pixie dust effect. Again, not showing up great in the photos, but I like the effect in hand. Her left eye I managed to get on the first try. It really represents my best luck with an eye. The Iris is a mix of Spectral Glow and Moth Green. I remembered Wren's Joy having greenish eyes, but thought they looked otherwise human, so I painted these that way. Then I reviewed Wren's Joy, and her eyes looked otherworldly. You can see, I had a "Dicken's" of a time trying to get the right eye to match the left. I never could, but after 10 tries, this is the best I could do. At arm's length, it looks fine. For anyone interested, paint recipes are spoilered here: Overall, I'm very pleased with it. I hope I did the original inspiration justice.

Every DM needs wolves. These were bare metal used on the gaming table for far too long! I've been wanting to paint these for a long time, but was intimidated by the fur. I finally decided to take the plunge. I did some research on the web for images for inspiration, as well as the forums. Here's what I came up with. C&C Welcome. First, the individuals. Here was the inspiration photo from google images for a varied color gray wolf. This is what I came up with for him. Coincidentally, it ended up very similar to Anne's picture on the Reaper Web Store. Next, I wanted a run-of-the-mill gray wolf. Here is an inspiration photo. And the model. And, as these are all for our Reign of Winter Adventure Path, I wanted a white wolf! Here was the inspiration. I was surprised to find so much cream and not so much white, so I tried to replicate it on the model. I also tried blue eyes, but they didn't pop quite well enough. And I threw on some snow and cork "rocks." I wasn't entirely happy with it overall, but it is acceptable. Finally, here are some group shots. Overall, I had fun painting these, and knocked all three out in about a week. That's SUPER fast for me.

This figure is a great load off my Shelf of Shame. I wanted to complete it for my friend's 40th birthday, as he was supposed to come back to town for a surprise party. I never finished it, since he changed his plans and there was no party. He and I go back to 7th grade, and have gamed together on-and-off for the better part of 25 years. I've gone back to complete this figure after about a 3 year hiatus. He is my first real attempt at an NMM weapon and armor. The challenge with the sword was the spine of the sword is soft not crisp, so getting a straight line was tough. I asked my friend what his favorite type of character was to play. His answer: Sword and Board fighter. I wanted the figure to resemble my friend: Very pale Caucasian, very light blond short hair. Also, I wanted our high school colors to figure into the paint scheme: Green and White. I also like to find old gems from the Reaper store that need some love and new life breathed into them! Ashlan definitely fits the bill. So, I present Ashlan Fellthrush, Heroic Paladin. I had dreams at one point of making the suitable looking parts of the sword and tabard-trim into green gems, but gave up on that to get him DONE!. Part of the reason I gave up on this figure for so long was my failure to realize my ambitious goal to paint a freehand gold NMM device on the back to match the one sculpted on the front. The back felt like it needed something. I tried a white dragon for a while, like the shield, but didn't like it. So I repainted the back and tried this gold device. It came out "good enough" after about the third try, so I moved on. Overall, I'm very pleased with Ashlan. In know my friend will enjoy it. He's triple-sealed for gaming goodness. Now, I just have to pack him up for a safe trip to Seattle. Thanks for reading. C&C Welcome.
