  1. I don't want to lose momentum after finishing the previous WIP project, I'm starting another right away. This time, I'm doing something "smaller": the Bones Large Earth Elemental. Just to get started, I attached the arms and head to painting sticks (repurposed chopsticks) with a hot glue gun, and then primed them with a spray of thinned FolkArt Multi-Surface Acrylic (Bark Brown). While that dried, I turned to choosing a color to paint it. My paint box contained both Redstone Highlight and Redstone Shadow, and I thought it would be neat to paint the elemental to look like he was made
  2. It's been a short while, but I'm back with another project. This time around, I'm going to tackle this guy: 77116 Bones Colossal Skeleton. This'll be an interesting paint project for me, because I won't be able to depend on using an airbrush as much as I did for painting Kaladrax. I'll be out of my comfort zone and trying a lot of techniques that are new to me. There's a large gap where the skeleton's torso connects to the waist -- I could use an epoxy putty, but there's been something I wanted to try for a while: Alteco SSP-HG Instant Adhesive Putty, a two-part gap-filling compoun
  3. This year my husband got me some resin terrain from Itar's Workshop, including some sci-fi pieces. One of these is IWS-IND-003, "Engine" and one of them is IWS-IND-001, "Power Generator", but I can't recall which is which. Here they are with Reaper's Dee Dee, Astro Girl, for scale. Please pardon my ignorance. I don't know know if these are true-to-life or pure fantasy, so I decided to paint them how I liked. I didn't take pictures for the earliest stages. First I primed them with titanium white (Golden matte fluid acrylics) with a very little flow improver added. Typical
  4. EDIT: As per the new rules, I needed a theme to keep this thread going. Thanks to RB's clarification the theme can actually be nice and broad, so I am back to painting up the heroes and villains (and mooks) that I can make use of when I am running a game. Alas, that means I can't post any space marines or any of those kits that are the size of a small child. Fortunately, I don't own any of those either. Now that I have a few minis under my belt, it seems to be a good time to start a WIP of my own. Of course, for my first entry I stopped to take pictures but not to post them so here it
  5. Alright I want to see what everyone's working on base-wise, even if it's some simple, basic (ha! see what I did there?) stuff. Let's share the bases we are working on. First, I'll show you a couple of the ones I did recently. This was nothing special but one of my first attempts at sculpting any kind of base. Attempted to be some sort of stone/cobblestone street. Just some flattened out milliput then with one of my little clay tools carved in the stones. After it dried, filled it with some white glue and some GF9 grass. Next, I was trying to make some appropriate bases for th
  6. I'm tossing down the gauntlet again! Same thing as the last thread I opened up for the DSM Stephanie Law figures. This is a GROUP/OPEN thread for all the awesome figures that Tre "Trebeard" Manor has sculpted for his line through kickstarters Looking forward to painting mine when they are in hand and I really hope to see others posting in here their WIP for these wonderfully sculpted figures. Please NO CHATTER outside of these figures, lets keep it to the figures themselves and questions about them if we need help/feedback from each other. Let's do this! ETA: Changed ti
  7. I plan on taking a bit of time on this one. I already completed 2 of 4 minis for my goal for April I hope blocking the nipples makes this family friendly? I guessed as long as they were blocked it was ok since I gave her a digital bikini I'm still struggling with contrast. I feel like if I go too far it looks silly, but when I think it looks "ok" it photographs looking all one color. http://housebathory.tumblr.com/
  8. I'm painting the 5 Bones Black Orcs for my D&D game, and I figured I'd try a few different combinations of color to achieve some different skintones for each orc. I thought I'd show them here along with the color choices in case it's useful to anyone else, and so I can refer back to it if I ever end up needing to paint another greenskin. The photo quality isn't great, and of course, my painting skills are rudimentary, but I think the pictures are good enough that the differences in color should be visible. With each of these figures I tried to work from shadows and layer up to highlight
  9. It's been awhile! I haven't had a lot of time to paint, sadly, between taking 18 hours this semester and working full time, on top of starting up a blog, trying to maintain some semblance of a social life, and sleeping somewhere in there. Trista here I used in a game a few times over the past couple of weeks. She's still not done, despite having hit the table before. In my bi-weekly D&D game, she's a stand in for Astra Garou, a werewolf paladin of the goddess Luna. The game is a homebrew one in a setting I've been making up for several months now. It's going well! Astra here got the
  10. Hello everyone , I am new to the boards and just started out painting Reaper miniatures. I'm not new to painting though as I have dabbled in painting several Games Workshop lines before, but I am coming back after a long 10 year break to painting. So it very much feels like I have some relearning to do. anyways Monday I had started out on my first Reaper Mini project from the Bones line : the Young Fire Dragon. Taking my time with the project so far I have only accomplished the basecoat of Army Painter Dragon Red. On the white miniature it is turning out very bright red and in some lightin
  11. Going to try and keep a semi-proper WIP thread for once just to see if I can. I've been posting a WIP picture every Sunday to my Facebook feed to keep me motiviated but I want to pick up the pace a little seeing as the last model took 2 months. This is the smallest size of army for Wrath of Kings. 12 Infantry, 2 leaders and 2 specialists 6 Union workers (the pigs) 1 Union Boss (large guy with a gnome holding a whip on his back) 6 Defender Linesman (humans in steam powered armour) 1 Defender Linesman Guardian (guy with a larger suit and hammer) The Mighty Taur (The geneticaly modified
  12. I had originally started painting a chibi wizard for the Resolutionary Painting challenge. He is turning out better than I expected so I want to spend extra time on him and do some extra shading and highlighting. Due to the month being super effeicient at taking up my free time I don't think I will be able to finish him and 3 others to keep up with the challenge so I am going to put him off for a while. Instead I am going to paint up the Ice Golem and Ice Gamins from the Children of December crew I bought a couple years ago. They should be easier (famous last words!) to finish by the end o
  13. 02880: Lion Man Brothers Of Tooth And Claw _____________________________________________________________________________________________ The last of the Brotherhood. And here i really used brown washes and reaper Ink's to get the mane going and to keep some the base color.
  14. I decided with all the doubles of grunts that came with the Bones II Kickstarter, I'd add a bit of variety to them. To be fair, only the Bugbears came (again) with Bones II, the Orcs were sitting in a trade box and I thought I'd have some to be more traditional Orcs than my Warhammer apemen collection for D&D games (or they could always serve as Hobbos or Half-Orcs in a pinch) I think the Bugbear King (with greataxe) came out the best so far.
  15. 94003 Razor is the tiny chicken walker guy with no arms. Store Link 94004 Assassin is a standard mech guy with non-symmetrial weapon pods on his shoulders. Store Link 94007 Wight is a big running CAV with square pods and long arm-guns. Store Link Also, having just looked these guys up on the kickstarter page they (and my Spectre from before) all belong to the yellow ankh-dagger faction, which is a nice coincidence in case the rules ever come out. (cough) Usual prep: Filed off (some) mold lines, boiled to straighten things out, washed with a soapy toothbrush, rinsed, dried, and stuck to bottl
  16. Just a work in progress thread for some mouselings. Aren't they cute? I started on the princess, Because I was kind of in the mood to paint a dress. I went with a split red/gold color scheme with a little bit of dark blue for the hair and ghost white for the under skirt. My thinking had been "Spanish princess" in part because I too frequently fall back on pink/purple/blue colors for anything in a fancy dress. Still needs a little more lining on the edges of the dress and some more yellow highlights on the gold section. Probably could use a little more shading on the fur, which is g
  17. Today I will be beginning Golan. I'm picking him up sooner than I had intended in order to work on my lighting and shading, as I assume his larger features will better help me pick out what should be brighter. I'll also be working on my blending and glazing again, as the previous dwarf had some blending issues as well. I've primed him with a grey primer, and now I'll begin the task of picking a color scheme. :) Any quick suggestions?
  18. Had some time at work to slap paint on Arthrand here. I'm trying to subtly add highlights to his cloak. I've not had much practice with it yet. I know I need to push them a bit higher still though. Also sorry for the sideways image. I'm uploading from my phone and it's gone wonky. I don't know how to fix it!
  19. New dude posting! Here's what I'm currently working on, in spare time as I find it. Had some snow days from classes, so I knocked out a few minis. This one isn't quite done yet. Neither are the others, really.
  20. I wasn't great about taking a bunch of pics along the way so far, but here are what I have: Both minis got a soap bath with warm water, Dawn dish soap, and a good scrub with a toothbrush. Once dry, I primed the pony with Reaper's Brush on Primer - which I had to scrub off with soap and reprime three or four times before it would not bead up. Then they both got a coat of Brown Liner: As you can see, I picked out a 30mm base for the pony. I haven't dug through my bases yet for the bull. I then hit them with a blotchy coat of Ancient Bronze, then Lava Orange, and then Bloodstain Red
  21. Over halfway through the month and I decided I needed to start my next reaper Halloween chibi. So random draw at the start of the month was Gus. I had him all prepped up over the month. So I started him up today. Base coat of RMS Ghost White. Not original I know, but I wanted to go blue. So I shaded down with 3 layer of a mix of ghost white and sapphire blue. After that I blended back in some ghost white. Then I highlighted up with Pure White. I then base coated the chains with a mix of cloudy grey and sapphire blue. Here is what I wound up with after all that.

  23. Received my Bones 2 shipment last week and updated my old WIP thread only to find out the rules have changed. So, here's my first Bones 2 painted character. No idea what I'll use him for, and I know the colors are not quite... Dwarvin. I've pretty much finished painting him, though I'm sure if I wanted to I could touch up quite a few things. Let's start with Grey Primer and a Solid Blue Base for the cloth items... on a very clean napkin.
  24. Ok, this is the 3rd stage of the ranger from Partha 3-stage that I'm painting up to be my captain of the guard. I have the other 2 painted and plan to post all three when this is done as a kinda 3-stage progress meter. I decided to start him as well as I had extra skintone left over from fixing Tyden and the Bones wench. This is a 25mm figure and a Tom Meier sculpt (Yea Lost Mini Wiki). I'm not sure if I can get the eyes any better. Have 3 projects going. This will be my resevre projects while I try to finish up the other 2.
  25. I started a thread yesterday in the advice forum and one of the members suggested I start a WIP thread. So here it is. CC welcome, I'm looking to get better. I'm going to start with most of my current collection. Many of these guys have been played in games and stored in a box together, so some paint might be wearing off (see wraith). I'm not sure if this is how pictures are suggested to be uploaded, so this first post is extremely pic heavy. My apologies. The Red/ Blue girls are my main (she has multiple personality disorder...)
