  1. Going to try and keep a semi-proper WIP thread for once just to see if I can. I've been posting a WIP picture every Sunday to my Facebook feed to keep me motiviated but I want to pick up the pace a little seeing as the last model took 2 months. This is the smallest size of army for Wrath of Kings. 12 Infantry, 2 leaders and 2 specialists 6 Union workers (the pigs) 1 Union Boss (large guy with a gnome holding a whip on his back) 6 Defender Linesman (humans in steam powered armour) 1 Defender Linesman Guardian (guy with a larger suit and hammer) The Mighty Taur (The geneticaly modified cow, takes up both specialist slots) Only the basic assembley so far. Most fit together fine. The female linesman needed the peg on their sword arm removing. It has an L shaped key and if used as is her arm points directly behind her. Taur needed some filling work along his back where the armour plates met in the middle. For the bases I wanted something suitable to the technology in a fantasy setting but wouldn't be too busy and would be easily repeatable across a lot of bases, this is only a third of the infantry I've got a whole load more characters as well so anything too complex would be a headache later. (I did try to pipeworks bases that came with Relic Knights but they are just a tad too large for the WoK bases) The recess on the bases is fairly deep so I thought just filling it up with putty would be dull. I cut up some straws which will be sections of exposed undeground pipe once the putty goes in around them. One of them I cut a hole in so I'll paint up some liquid leaking out with a puddle on that base. The couple of sections of resin pipe are from the 40K basing kit and fit in the WoK base nicely. The metal cogs will be bent and/or cut a little and partially buried. The rest I've left blank they just get a basic putty treatmant. Keeps everyone varied but in the same theme then. The greenstuff on the large base is just leftovers from when I was filing in Taurs back which I used to mark where he'll stand to ensure there's no interferance with the pipes and where he stands. His staff goes down to level of the pegs on his feet rather than ground level so I want a bit of a dip for it to rest in as well. The plan tonght is to fill in the bases with milliput and drill out a hole in everyones exhaust pipes.
  2. I had originally started painting a chibi wizard for the Resolutionary Painting challenge. He is turning out better than I expected so I want to spend extra time on him and do some extra shading and highlighting. Due to the month being super effeicient at taking up my free time I don't think I will be able to finish him and 3 others to keep up with the challenge so I am going to put him off for a while. Instead I am going to paint up the Ice Golem and Ice Gamins from the Children of December crew I bought a couple years ago. They should be easier (famous last words!) to finish by the end of the month. Here is what I have got so far. The colors I am using are: Basecoat - 29814 - Ice Blue Shade/Wash - Citadel Drakenhof Nightshade Highlights will be 09021 - Snow Shadow and 09063 - Ghost White The gamin already have the wash applied. The golem still needs the basecoat finished.
  3. 02880: Lion Man Brothers Of Tooth And Claw _____________________________________________________________________________________________ The last of the Brotherhood. And here i really used brown washes and reaper Ink's to get the mane going and to keep some the base color.
  4. I decided with all the doubles of grunts that came with the Bones II Kickstarter, I'd add a bit of variety to them. To be fair, only the Bugbears came (again) with Bones II, the Orcs were sitting in a trade box and I thought I'd have some to be more traditional Orcs than my Warhammer apemen collection for D&D games (or they could always serve as Hobbos or Half-Orcs in a pinch) I think the Bugbear King (with greataxe) came out the best so far.
  5. 94003 Razor is the tiny chicken walker guy with no arms. Store Link 94004 Assassin is a standard mech guy with non-symmetrial weapon pods on his shoulders. Store Link 94007 Wight is a big running CAV with square pods and long arm-guns. Store Link Also, having just looked these guys up on the kickstarter page they (and my Spectre from before) all belong to the yellow ankh-dagger faction, which is a nice coincidence in case the rules ever come out. (cough) Usual prep: Filed off (some) mold lines, boiled to straighten things out, washed with a soapy toothbrush, rinsed, dried, and stuck to bottles. On my last/first CAV, sticking some of the bits to the bottle was a mistake, it made it hard to paint, and especially went bad with the varnish at the end. To combat this, I switched from poster-tacking on bottles to impaling them on sticks. The sticks are skewers or something, for food I guess, but they work better for this than I expected. They originally had pointy tips, but I just snipped off enough of the pointy end until what was left was just a bit smaller than the peg-hole, so it would go in far enough to be held by friction. I can set it in the bottle (Weighted with coins) when I need to set it down. For the arms (and smaller sticks) I used binder clips, it holds it securely and I can set it down without it toppling over. I'm a little worried about it squeezing the peg too much, but I figure bones are durable enough it shouldn't be a problem, especially if I get these done within a week or so. Which is my goal, get these done before Bones II arrive. To 'prime' I slathered on a coat of unthinned Reaper 09065 Grey Liner. I think I'm coming around to the liners, they go on easier than unthinned Walnut Brown and don't seem to have a problem sticking. Not much to see just yet.
  6. Just a work in progress thread for some mouselings. Aren't they cute? I started on the princess, Because I was kind of in the mood to paint a dress. I went with a split red/gold color scheme with a little bit of dark blue for the hair and ghost white for the under skirt. My thinking had been "Spanish princess" in part because I too frequently fall back on pink/purple/blue colors for anything in a fancy dress. Still needs a little more lining on the edges of the dress and some more yellow highlights on the gold section. Probably could use a little more shading on the fur, which is gingerbread cookie/stained olive. So far these are really fun to paint.
  7. Today I will be beginning Golan. I'm picking him up sooner than I had intended in order to work on my lighting and shading, as I assume his larger features will better help me pick out what should be brighter. I'll also be working on my blending and glazing again, as the previous dwarf had some blending issues as well. I've primed him with a grey primer, and now I'll begin the task of picking a color scheme. :) Any quick suggestions?
  8. Had some time at work to slap paint on Arthrand here. I'm trying to subtly add highlights to his cloak. I've not had much practice with it yet. I know I need to push them a bit higher still though. Also sorry for the sideways image. I'm uploading from my phone and it's gone wonky. I don't know how to fix it!
  9. New dude posting! Here's what I'm currently working on, in spare time as I find it. Had some snow days from classes, so I knocked out a few minis. This one isn't quite done yet. Neither are the others, really.
  10. I wasn't great about taking a bunch of pics along the way so far, but here are what I have: Both minis got a soap bath with warm water, Dawn dish soap, and a good scrub with a toothbrush. Once dry, I primed the pony with Reaper's Brush on Primer - which I had to scrub off with soap and reprime three or four times before it would not bead up. Then they both got a coat of Brown Liner: As you can see, I picked out a 30mm base for the pony. I haven't dug through my bases yet for the bull. I then hit them with a blotchy coat of Ancient Bronze, then Lava Orange, and then Bloodstain Red.
  11. Over halfway through the month and I decided I needed to start my next reaper Halloween chibi. So random draw at the start of the month was Gus. I had him all prepped up over the month. So I started him up today. Base coat of RMS Ghost White. Not original I know, but I wanted to go blue. So I shaded down with 3 layer of a mix of ghost white and sapphire blue. After that I blended back in some ghost white. Then I highlighted up with Pure White. I then base coated the chains with a mix of cloudy grey and sapphire blue. Here is what I wound up with after all that.
  12. 03190: Blacktongue, Gnoll Ranger Brothers Of Tooth And Claw ____________________________________________________________________
  13. Received my Bones 2 shipment last week and updated my old WIP thread only to find out the rules have changed. So, here's my first Bones 2 painted character. No idea what I'll use him for, and I know the colors are not quite... Dwarvin. I've pretty much finished painting him, though I'm sure if I wanted to I could touch up quite a few things. Let's start with Grey Primer and a Solid Blue Base for the cloth items... on a very clean napkin.
  14. Ok, this is the 3rd stage of the ranger from Partha 3-stage that I'm painting up to be my captain of the guard. I have the other 2 painted and plan to post all three when this is done as a kinda 3-stage progress meter. I decided to start him as well as I had extra skintone left over from fixing Tyden and the Bones wench. This is a 25mm figure and a Tom Meier sculpt (Yea Lost Mini Wiki). I'm not sure if I can get the eyes any better. Have 3 projects going. This will be my resevre projects while I try to finish up the other 2.
  15. I started a thread yesterday in the advice forum and one of the members suggested I start a WIP thread. So here it is. CC welcome, I'm looking to get better. I'm going to start with most of my current collection. Many of these guys have been played in games and stored in a box together, so some paint might be wearing off (see wraith). I'm not sure if this is how pictures are suggested to be uploaded, so this first post is extremely pic heavy. My apologies. The Red/ Blue girls are my main (she has multiple personality disorder...)
  16. dedicating this section to my OLD Wip's and stuff just so I can find them without having search for half an hour through 70 pages of forums carrion-crown-pcs frp wip bathalian Kain from final fantasy pirate ships aka I have a habit of leaving stuff half way finished for a year. allosaurus raptor lox jarg gnoll pathfinder big #[email protected]%@#$ map bending your bones video well that's most of them. --------------------------------------- so as busy as the forums are getting I decided to locate all my wips to here. starting off are going to be 4 minis for my gf based on the walking dead. starting with rick The Frp Wip http://www.reapermini.com/forum/index.php?/topic/48527-bunch-of-crap-from-frp-wip/ carrion crown pc's wip http://www.reapermini.com/forum/index.php?/topic/48878-carrion-crown-pcs/
  17. With all this talk in the Painting Tips & Advice Thread of NMM vs TMM I decided to throw my caution to the wind and give my Learn to Paint Kit #5: NMM a go. While I finish the final touches on my bones barkeep and finish painting my bones blacksmith I'm going to start my prep work on my LTPK figures. They need to be cleaned up and primed. I need to read over the instructions a few times as well. So here is a shot of the figures. I'm going to be painting. Should be a challenge I hope to be up for. Edit: for title correction
  18. 02785: Sabertooth Tiger Man Brothers Of Tooth And Claw ___________________________________________________________________________________ Here is the conversion of the Sabertooh Tiger man's base and Buckler. *First picture was white balanced and is WAY brighter than what it actually is. the other 2 pictures are not balanced and are closer to what it looks like* A lot of Wet blending (my first attempt - it turned out well). BACK: Highlight Orange mixed with a little GW: Vomit Brown (3:1) Transition:: GW: Vomit Brown CHEST: Pure white mixed with GW: Vomit Brown - just a touch to dull the white. Next I will be washing it with Reaper Brown Wash.
  19. While fixing up Tyden's Scrapped knee I had extra paint so I decided to get started on finishing up the Wench. As an experiment I plan to only use the color's from LTPK3. Her dress is Ashen Blue shadowed with a mix of ashen blue and mahogany brown. I'm think the whole thing needs some further blending. But the color's are blocked in. Oh, and to further my NMM practice, I intend to paint the mugs metal NMM. Gold was a thought, but I feel I want to practice metal more.
  20. I have been working on a project in blender, and could use some criticism. Unfortunately, I haven't converted this to a JPEG, but I will change it out as soon as it is possible. One of the things that is horrible with sculpting in 3d is that the details can become faded or nonexistent when the print is made, but with a 16 micron resolution almost all of the details you see should make it. The head is missing right now, and the arms and hands are just being set up for general shape before I can get into detail work. Some armor doesn't have support behind it if you look closely. I am sorry if this should have gone in sculpting, if so I would appreciate if a mod would move it.
  21. Well I have 12 Reaper Chibi so I decided that I will attempt to paint 1 a month this year. My random draw for january, Jack Pumpkinhead, He is primed and his head base coated photo'd with my cellphone.
  22. Okay, new project! Last weekend, I based C'thulhu with FolkArt Multi-Surface Paint (thinned with water and airbrushed), which I've found really sticks well to Bones and MSP sticks to it. I chose Thicket Green for the body and Bark Brown for the base. I chose to use the Moss Colors Triad as the main colors for the body. I sprayed Jungle Moss for the undercoat, with Highlands Moss sprayed as zenithal highlighting. I then drybrushed the shadows with Highlands Moss, and the highlights with Pale Lichen. Nice... I haven't really decided what to do with the base yet, but I like the idea making the main colors of the model green and purple, so I started the base with Violet Shadow. ...and that's where I ended for the night.
  23. 02753: Werebear Brotherhood Of Tooth And Claw ______________________________________________________________________________________ I filed down his neck a bit to put his head at a tilt. Then Green Stuffed and blended it with the pattern of the fur. Washed in Reaper Brown Wash. Finished the eyes and working on the mouth. C&C Welcome!
  24. So with Willen on his way to Vegas right now as I write this to vacation, we talked about a painted figure exchange. For his, he wanted something to represent his old TTRPG/D&D type character "Willen" and told me the story of how he was from Rivendell, an outcast who was good with the sword and with magic (both lightning and ice being his preferences). I found Dayln Talas, Elven Sword Mage on the Reaper Site, which we both thought was perfect. I did an alteration to the sword since the PC had a longsword instead of a curved blade, used some files and got it straightened out. Starting out, I went with the base first and I'm currently working on the figure. We meet up on Sunday to hang out, paint, and talk, so I'll probably be able to finish him up by Saturday night. It's all about that base... that base... that base! (WARNING: Picture heavy!) First off, I took a piece of 2 inch x 2 inch wood to use as the base, then I took some plasticard and cut to size over it. Next, I used some Secret Weapon broken columns and placed them on the base, then I used cork to build some old stairs. Between the columns, I used some small rocks and PVA glue to put them in to look like broken rubble between the column base and what broke off. The red/pink stuff is Vallejo Red Oxide Paste, it's basically a very finely ground pumice paste, I used it to give more texture to the base. You can see here I took more plasticard and cut out some Elven Runes to place on the side. Here you can see I've got it mostly primed up and then used a few secret weapon washes to get some definition to show. Skipping ahead a bit, I've painted it and stained it with washes to get it to look like what I wanted it to. Inspiration struck me in the middle of this, and I added even more rubble to the area at the bottom of the top stair. I also added a Hirst Arts piece that Bonwirn sent my way a while back, it's the urn/vase at the top. The figure will be on the 2nd set up, approaching the urn.. I decided that I wanted a creature to be in the center, but not a whole creature. I have some creature parts and decided to make it submerged in brackish water. This is just realistic water with secret weapon washes Dark Sepia mixed with Dark Green. I used a bit of silicone to make it so that the realistic water wouldn't leak out around the area I wanted. Skipping ahead a little bit more, we have the nearly finished base. I've added OSL to the runes, hit the base with some more staining. Then after the pics, I added more water effects since the stuff likes to shrink and added some more color and texture (not shown yet) by putting in some tufts of grass and flowers, to give it the feel that this ruin has been overtaken by nature. C&C are welcomed and appreciated!
  25. Started work on this Uskuluz Greyhide about 85% of the way through Anval Thricedamned. I think you all will like this progression everyone. Please let me know of some color choice you might think for the bits and bobs hanging off of him. ___________________________________________ The base is done with spackle, sand and some old pieces from a Reaper figure WAY back in the day. 10points if you can figure it out! C&C Welome!
