  1. Just finished up painting the skeleton archer I've been working on and decided on this guy as my next one up. Seems to be a devil or demon with a mask on maybe? I decided to to go with a purple cape and red skin on this guy. Probably make the axe gunmetal with some silver highlights. Not sure on the breast plate thingy he's wearing. Couple of details I've gone over in purple or red that will need changed. Comments and criticism welcome!
  2. I figured I would make a WIP for the next mini I paint. I mostly have monsters to paint right now as I'm a little intimidated by trying to make skin look good. So far I've just got some areas base coated. Any comments, ideas or suggestions are welcome! Still trying to figure things out. The cloak and shirt are a little bright right now. I'm thinking the base colors might be closer to final highlight colors for those. Armor is a black undercoat for the dark silver metallic I'm planning.
  3. Hi everyone so I'm currently working on painting the 3 reaper mini's painted below. From left to right; Nonalla, Thor, and Telemnar. I'm mostly working on Thor pictured in the center first. Also for picture taking...Are the pics with flash better than the no flash pics? I've attached both for reference. No flash first, then the flash pics are second. So for Thor the barbarian its hard to tell, but I tried to dry brush his hair a lighter brown. I've just watched some of Ghool's painting videos on Youtube. Am I a lot better off if I try to actually paint
  4. I haven't done a WIP here in a while, except for the occasional exchange piece, so I decided to give one a go and see if I keep up with it. Those of you that follow the "Getting to Know Each Other" thread will remember this piece, but for the rest here's a quick recap. We were asked to try something new. As I don't sculpt I decided to try my hand at something simple. Enter the Master Series Ellen Stone that I received in the Secret Sophie exchange. While she is a hot cowgirl, she is unfortunately not wearing a hot cowgirl shirt. I made her one, though I did run into a bit of a problem.
  5. Bear with me on this, it has been a while since I've done a WIP. Given my House affiliation updates may be sporadic. If you read the monthly goal threads in the tabletop sub-forum you'll know that I recently completed (mostly) an inventory of my unpainted figures. This has given me some desire to actually sit down and paint more often. I decided to go with the Hill Giant because he's been haunting my lead pile for about 10 years now and already had his skin base coated about 5 years ago IIRC. That and I've always liked the general look of the sculpt on this one. I have two objectiv
  6. I'm in desperate need of organizing my work area. While cleaning, I found a small stack of foam core sheets. So, I formed a plan to get rid of some foam core sheets, open up some storage, and organize my painting area, all at the same time. Here's the project, presented wordlessly: Darn. I've run out of storage space already. I think I'll have to make a second one at least, what with more paint coming in from mail order and Reaper Kickstarters. Dimensions are 15" wide by 13" deep by 12-1/2" tall with a capacity of 126 bottles. Total material use
  7. This will be where I post my Frost Grave Terrain. First up will probably be an improvised fountain, made from a leftover plastic container and the water weird (77310) mini Also Dave Graffam's Tall Ruined Wall. I'll be doing that tomorrow with bristol board and going to the print shop to print some stuff in color. There's no Glue Stick so only priming and dry-fitting of the fountain
  8. Next up in my painting journey for my current Pathfinder game. The Stag Lord, a.k.a. the first Big Bad that the party will encounter (likely at the next session, so I may need to speed up the painting process near the end to get him done). This is also proving to be my first "Moby Dick" mini, or perhaps "Murphy's Law" if you prefer. When I first opened him up, I learned that he was missing his bow arm. While it's certainly plausible he'll lose that arm when he encounters the PCs, it seemed a bit premature to me. :) Fortunately, Reaper Customer Service is awesome and even though it was mo
  9. I saw amazing French sculptor Gautier Giroud posting up WIP pics of this amazing bust and knew I just HAD to have him, picked him up from Cinemodeles-creations. He's jumped up in my queue today while I'm home from work on a personal day. Here's the the cast in resin pieces, held together by some blue tack so I could take the pics of the resin - I've used my airbrush for the first time today, primed up Deadpool and 4 giants (the giants first to get the hang of the airbrush). Here's where he's at now - I drilled holes
  10. I'm working on a few different projects right now, so rather than start threads for all of them, I'm consolidating. I'll use this thread until June or so and then switch to a summer one. Or slack off some more, whichever is easiest! I need to get crackin' or I'll be in super trouble come Reapercon. First, I need a dark sword project because, having cleaned the hobby room this weekend I discovered I had too many unpainted pretties. I decided I need to work on my OSL and color balance this year, so I want to make a cave and have the mini emerging into sunlight from darkness. It'll
  11. I've been painting this for a few weeks, but haven't posted any of my progress photos. I'll be posting things soon. For more info on this project, you can check out my request for help thread here where I discuss a few issues. Here are the descriptions I've been basing my paint job on. I've decided to make my interpretation sliiiightly further along in the change, because... we'll it's already going to be difficult. Photos soon.
  12. Sooo... instead of focusing on my February goals, my ADHD brain has wandered off and pulled this little guy out of his box... I usually fail so badly at these WIP threads as I am terrible at actually finishing my projects but I'm going to try to not over-think this guy and get some paint on him. Hopefully my brain will sort out the base for Cinder while I'm working on something else... He has been primed black and white (zenithal) thus far. Tomorrow, after drywall and mudding work, hopefully will be colors. Thanks for watching.
  13. This has been sitting on the self of shame for a while. Decided to pull it down and use it to test a color scheme that I want to use for a different model. Looking or feedback. I wanted a somewhat traditional look, but switched up some tans where I normally see whites or blacks.
  14. I had an idea for a quick paint while my wife does some paint by numbers. The goal is to be done tonight, though I don't know if that will happen anymore. She's stopped painting and now we're watching Brooklyn 99 while she does some embroidery. There may also be Scotch (Bruchladdich) involved later, providing further reason to stop.
  15. So the mini I ended up choosing for my Partner was Alastriel #02967 I actually had kinda wanted a different one but this was one of the choices I'd narrowed down and I erm accidentally forgot to order the other when ordering this one. I don't have a lot of "girl" minis so I had decided to get several and see how they looked in person. Anyway, this one was a contender and it's a quite interesting model. My partner wanted a kind of wand/mace in her hand, and I'd thought about getting rid of the staff, but it's just too nice. So I decided to 'convert' the sword she's holding to a 'wan
  16. I decided to start painting up minis for my various PCs -An unidentified Grenadier Halfling fighter (chain & shield) as Lvl 7 Rogue, Magnus Perrywhimple (soon to be con only) -Mystic Theurge as Lvl 1 Monk/ Lvl 1 Rogue Stede Blackthumb (Acolyte of Candlekeep), on an acquisition mission to atone for learning and copying ritual magic without permission -Juliette, as Lvl 1 Half Drow Sorceress, Grz'zilda (the Ghastly Gourmet) who was rescued from Hillsfar and while hiding her heritage is now adventuring. I've done a few passes at a few things. But not full base coats
  17. [EDIT: Split from another thread: GCB Paints: 77192 Kaladrax. I'm resurrecting this thread because I'm finally pulling the Hydra out to finish!] Inspired by tonight's episode of "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.", and the final week before the season finale, I settled on this mini as my next project: http://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/hydra/latest/77191 Hail Hydra!
  18. Once again I'm trying to pull myself out of a painting slump (this one stretching for most of the year). I recently attended my first paint workshop. While I mostly learned how much I have to learn, and that air brushes are pretty cool, I did rekindle some of my desire to paint. And in an atempt to keep it going until the holiday break I thought I'd try a WIP thread. I've been holding on to the brigands from Red Box Game for some time now... so no time like the present. First up (actually second...) is Smarty Sean. And his hood going from highlighted then shaded (first pic) to mostly done
  19. When I first saw this guy, I wanted to paint him. Of course, I didn't realize how big he was. I bought him but have just had him sitting on a pedestal waiting for a reason to use him. Then I started hearing rumors of Frostgrave, but ignored it for a while. Then one day I looked up Frostgrave because I kept hearing about it. And there it was... the perfect reason to use him. I got in my Frostgrave book and ideas started coming on a warband to support our Ogre mage. Once I finalized my starting warband list, and now have a fairly comprehensive list of add-ons I can pick up, I figured it w
  20. This is an attempt at an ongoing list of my various projects. I hope to list them chronologically in four categories (My minis, my cardstock builds, "Other, and My Daughter's Mad Paint Skills) My Miniature WIPs: Elf Pikeman - Warhammer Fantasy Tutorial box Minotaur and Goblins - Warhammer Quest Dwarf - Warhammer Quest 06023: Anhurian Swordsman - Reaper (Learn to Paint Kit #1 - WIP) 02544: Barrow Rat - Reaper (Learn to Paint Kit #1 - WIP) 02512: Tsuko, Male Monk - Reaper (Learn to Paint Kit #2 - WIP) 77005: Ogre Chieftain - Reaper Bones (WIP) 77195: Mr. Bones - Reaper Bones (WIP, Show
  21. I skipped a few steps, but I actually remembered to take a WiP shot of my set from the "Song of Blades and Heroes: Axe and Brimstone" Kickstarter. There's also a few Hobgoblins who I started in hopes it would motivate the delayed KS package to arrive quicker (it worked!)
  22. In between base coats of glow in the dark medium for specter #2 I decided to unwrap and quick paint the slimes with ink. What follows is, to my belief, THE green slime recipe.
  23. Right. This project has been ticking in the back of my mind for awhile. The story starts about 20 years ago, when I painted my very first miniature for our D&D game, our NPC cleric from the Temple of Elemental Evil module. I love that module, and I loved our cleric more, since he managed to save/raise our butts more times than I can count. Jannus came from farmer stock, and took a tough love approach to healing, all stemming back to the dreaded 1 rolled on a healing check, subsequently involving salt in a wound. Good times. It became a standing joke for years to come. I love the
  24. The intent of this thread is to work through painting the Myth minis at a tabletop level in order to make the game experience even better. I chose to start with the crawlers since the melee and ranged are hard to tell apart. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
  25. Gif here ---> http://imgur.com/gallery/nf1aLJB Lazy so I'll copy pasta what I wrote on Imgur. "Made a base for an upcoming project. Its a simple LED and battery and a LOT of hot glue. I got a flickering candle from the dollar store and ripped it apart for the pieces. Then I made an aluminum foil cast and filled it with hot glue. (Foil doesn't stick to it so when it cooled it came right off) It was a lot of trial and error, but I am happy with it. Its intended to look like a volcano with lava dripping down from the mini, hopefully it looks better when its painted!" Anyway I am very
