  1. So I figured I'd just start a WIP thread, rather than clutter up the forum with unnecessary extras. I hate disorder (although you wouldn't be able to tell that from looking at my workspace! LOL) This week's been mostly working on Gremlins from Malifaux, I have Somer, Slophaulers and Skeeters almost done. Still waiting on flying stand order to come in for Skeeters. Somer's the Bayou Boss, and I have other Bayou Gremlins in my pile of to-be-done but we'll see how long it takes me to get to them. Betrayal at Calth (BAC) is a GW box set of Space Marines that's both a board game and a kind of starter set for Horus Heresy 30k (which takes place before the Warhammer 40k sci fi - just for those who don't follow this). My LGS is doing an escalation league for 30k, and is running a contest for painting the box set. it's about 38 miniatures I think. Really hoping I win, even if I don't play the game because the prize is a free Horus Heresy book of our choice And I love books, even more than I love models so books about models... I'm THERE! Anyway here's my pics (except for the BAC which is still currently in its box lol) ^^ Slophaulers - because they, wait for it, haul slop Just finishing base really on these guys Somer - almost done, working on base now and just need cloth highlighted I think ^^ Skeeters (mosquitos) - trying out colour scheme, pretty much still basecoating although I did highlight their backs, wings and eyes (which still need glaze) Also trying to work on getting more lighting in my room for my light box :( so maybe my pictures will come out better =/ C&C is always welcome :) It helps me get better!
  2. So one of my players bought a hero forge 3d model and then printed it. I've based it, primed it and now I'm painting it in the color combination he requested. I have just finished the base layer (the goggles will be gold with green glass) Hope he's happy when it's finished :D
  3. Well, I decided to start another WIP. This one a sort of Halloween theme. The Vampress Siobhana, Vampiress by reaper. Got some work done on her awhile ago and decided in the spirit of the season to try and finish her up. Unfortunately I couldn't remember exactly the method I painted up the face, so I got as close as I could on the legs and hands. Here's where she is at the moment. As always, any C&C is always welcome.
  4. Hello everyone, I plan on crafting some blights out of polymer clay. Today I made the armatures out of copper wire and glue and pined them to some old 20mm bases. I plan on using fimo air polymer clay, decorative sand (maybe some rocks too), and a variety of dried tea leaves and spices. Then I will prime them using cheap spray paint and paint them using cheap acrylic paint. I hope they turn out nice. All kinds of tips, suggestion or criticism are welcome :D
  5. So I am reopening what will be a long and fun wip stuff :D hopefully ! For a start ( and to cut from my massive darkness dwarfs..actually still 3 to finish the serie I've got ), I have this nice Runewars Wraiths in my figures stock and that will be great opportunity to airbrush a bit ! And I just got them primed for now , using Vallejo grey primer..since they do have pretty light color regarding the box I did not want use any black for that part.
  6. I've been wanting to paint a bust since I got back from ReaperCon. I missed my chance to pick up Julie Guthrie's beautiful sculpt from the convention, so I did a bit of research. I had already picked up a larger scale mini from FeR Miniatures at Scale 75's table this year, so I started there. In addition to some more intricately detailed stuff, FeR also had a few busts that seemed a bit more on the simple side, so I grabbed them. They're both in the "Portraits From the Middle Ages" line. I started with this one, the Saxon Huscarl, Hastings, 1066. I started off by doing the face, using Reaper's HD flesh quadrilogy(?) I mixed them to create midtones, but it still came out less smooth than I had hoped. I think it looks ok for a first go, but I definitely have so much room for improvement. I'm definitely going to do a bit of touching up on the face. I did the eyes next, and I really like the way that they turned out! They give him such a ruthless look! After this, I base coated the chainmail in dark grey mixed with some black, and then I left it there for the night. I'm going to try and do the metals as non-metallic, so we'll see how that goes!
  7. Playing with Secret Weapon Miniatures weathering pigments (finally...) Making a rusty wrought iron fence is really fun! I think I need to add a few more shadows to make the bits pop. I'm pretty happy with this, but C&C welcome and appreciated!
  8. Back from Reapercon and working on the little's PC for our inconsistent dnd game. She's super tiny but I really like the sculpt. Gripes about plastic, and the mould quality though. It's a wizkids preprimed number. I wish they did these in metal. She's coming along nicely. Her skins are the rosy skin triad with some of the fair skins mixed in. Hair is intense brown, vmc orange brown pumpkin orange and then pumpkin orange and rosy highlight, then tiny bits of rosy highlight. Her eyes are I think leaf green, and tiny. Kiddo is requesting some purple socks with stripes so that is the next thing. Enjoy:).
  9. Hey there! This is my first post-ReaperCon mini, and I'm using her to practice the various techniques that I learned in various classes. I'll be posting stages along the way, and feedback is very much appreciated! For starters, I've gotten most of the base coats down, and the first thing I practiced was two brush blending on her orange cloak. My plan is to do a bit of freehand along the trim in the light orange of the front skirt, and then use the same trim along the skirt in the dark orange of the cloak. It makes sense in my head, anyway! The chest armor is done with the new Dungeon Dwellers color "Kobold Scale", and I love it. It's got a deep maroon/brown thing going on. Thanks for looking!
  10. So I posted these sketches for new sculpt ideas to my social medias and got some good feedback. Everyone seemed to be a big fan of the Raccoon and since he was one of my favorites from the pack also, I decided to sculpt him! I didn't have my phone with me to get pics of the initial wire frame and GS layer but I went over that with some Fimo clay and baked an underlying structure now and I'll start layering my Primo on top of that.
  11. So, after indulging in the metal trade at Reapercon this year I found myself going through my stores of salvaged miniatures and putting together various bits and pieces. I tend to save a lot of scraps and fragments of figures in my spare parts bin (or drawer, rather) which I think may be useful for something someday or other, and after pouring the lot of it out and sifting through it I realized that I have accumulated an awful lot of this sort of thing, and it was high time I did something with it. After messing around and experimenting for a couple of hours I came away with a promising assortment of parts, enough to assemble three or four female figures in all. I thought it would be fun to make a WIP out them (hopefully it will help keep me motivated to finish all four of them). Most of the parts are from Reaper figures (I'll try to list the catalog numbers), but there are a few other bits and pieces in between, which I'll try to identify as best I can. First off, I've got one of the alternate torsos from the 03096 Pegasus rider. This matched up really well with a random set of legs I had lying around, which I think once belong to a steampunk-ish figure. Digging around in my stores of weapons I found the original shield that went with the torso. Next up, I have the upper torso from the 03631 Sea Elf Bard, which marries up surprisingly well with the legs from the alien pole dancer from 50270. In particular, by using a hobby knife to carefully separate the thighs of the legs I was able to get a pretty dynamic looking pose (DISCLAIMER: In the picture it looks a bit like she has some camel toe going on, which is an artifact left over from the incision I made to separate the legs. That being said, I have nonetheless linked the picture to comply with forum rules on nudity). http://s1376.photobucket.com/user/Jack_Ironhammer/media/20180904_012314 2_zpsaxgvp2ma.jpg.html?filters[user]=145063139&filters[recent]=1&sort=1&o=3 Lastly for now, I've got the torso from the 03459 Angel of Justice. With a bit of judicious trimming, it marries up almost perfectly with the legs from 03336 Cancer from the Children of the Zodiac series. Pictures are linked below due to nudity on the angel model. http://s1376.photobucket.com/user/Jack_Ironhammer/media/20180903_230715 2_zpscmiiqn4i.jpg.html?filters[user]=145063139&filters[recent]=1&sort=1&o=1 I started out with the angel of justice mashup. The original figure was drilled for wings, and since I was already starting to get kind of a supernatural vibe from the figure I dug around my spares bin for something wing-ish to put there. I ended up with a pair of fairy wings. I then looked for something suitable to put in her hand where the original sword was, and after a bit of experimentation I decided that another sword is kind of looked the best. As before, images containing nudity are linked separately below. http://s1376.photobucket.com/user/Jack_Ironhammer/media/20180904_011843 2_zpscgmugyiq.jpg.html?filters[user]=145063139&filters[recent]=1&sort=1&o=0 Whatever she is, she's got a very triumphant look about her (a couple people I showed her to said she looked a bit like the Statue of Liberty). As such, I have dubbed her The Fairy of Victory. I have no idea what a Fairy of Victory does, but I'm quite sure its suitably magnificent.
  12. As part of my tour through the Reaper MSP skin triads (and eventually the HD and Bones skin paints), I decided to tackle the Fair Skin triad next. This might have been a bad idea. Oh well, nothing ventured... Thus far, I have painted her skin and done the base coat for her hair. This time out, I'm trying to paint one section at a time, so everything else has only seen a Brown Liner wash. (This will hopefully help me keep track of what I've painted.) Her skin has been done using the Fair Skin triad. I tried using 09069 Rosy Highlight to put some red on her cheeks but I don't think it's worked well so far. Her lips, fingernails, and toenails were done using a mix of 09067 Rosy Shadow and 09279 Fresh Blood. Her hair is thus far painted with 09071 Chestnut Brown. These are the colors I currently plan on using for midtones: 09047 Fair Skin will be the midtone for her skin 09071 Chestnut Brown will the midtone for her hair and her staff 09030 Leather Brown will be the midtone for her corset, leather jewelry, sandals, and the wrap on her staff 09226 Peacock Green will be the midtone for her dress 09430 Polished Leather will the midtone for her pouch 29846 HD Spruce Green will the midtone for the beads on the leather cords (or I assume they're beads) I haven't decided whether I will use Peacock Green or Spruce Green to paint the orbs (one in her staff, one in her hand). The base will probably feature a gray-ish paint (e.g. 09433 Mountain Stone) and some hints of moss via the Moss Colors triad. Things I need to do with the skin and face: Review it with less tired eyes and make changes. Deepen some of the shadows. Any suggestions? My instinct is to try using 09044 Tanned Skin or 09045 Tanned Highlight. Clean up around her lips and her fingernails. Add a shadow between her toes. Fix her eyes. I thought her right eye looked fine but, ye gods, in the picture... Her left eye got hit by a pool of Rosy Highlight when I was trying to glaze her cheek so the pupil/iris needs to be redone. (I may try to add an iris in the style of dks' eye tutorial if I have to go back in and redo the eyes.) I believe the sclera looks fine. I should probably do these before I do more work on her hair lest I forget.
  13. Started working on this guy today for one of my player. Since I'm a "newbie" and have no experience in working with skin, I was wondering if Reaper's Flesh Wash would look ok with the Elf Flesh base-coat for the skin. For the hair, the player want him to be carrot-top with a touch of grey. The could prove to be interesting. I'm also looking for suggestions for his clothing. almost anything is fair game, all though the campaign setting is in a desert/desolation area.
  14. Hi guys, so just because I love touching everything haha and to cut a bit form painting ( though almost finish with the reaper beast champion paint :)...)..I started to mess with clay stuff ..quite fun actually haha. I have no idea how this will end up anyway and that's ok for me to fail , that's just for practice and such and get a feel for it. I started trying to do some kind of carnivore plant things ( also looking at a thread here for a step octopus like sculpt so just trying to avoid the "anatomy" things for now..) I may have some trouble with lower jaw..did nothing to support it but hmm will see xD..
  15. I picked out 14352 Unforgiven, Crusader Grunt to practice the lessons in Bones LTPK #1. I'm aiming for "tabletop" quality with this paint job. Here's the miniature with most of the basecoating done: The colors in use are: 09050 Antique Gold for the gold accents 09052 Shadowed Steel for the armor 09053 Honed Steel for the sword 09056 Templar Blue for the edge of the tabard, the sword hilt, and the edge of the tabard (or whatever that is) 09064 Brown Liner for lining between the blue and yellow on the tabard 09074 Palomino Gold for the tabard and the undercoat for the gold accents 09110 Oiled Leather for the belt 29843 HD Solid Black for the black The white patches on the tabard are 09108 Brush-on White Primer because I scraped off the paint there. (I got some basing material stuck there, decided I'd paint over it, and then decided to scrape it off and make it look better.) My next tasks are to repaint the reprimed parts of the tabard after the primer cures and fix any painting errors before moving on to the wash portion of the exercise. (Any shadows you see in the pictures are probably a result of the lighting rather than any painted effects.) After I'm done with this, I suppose I should paint Sir Forscale.
  16. So my next old school project that will probably take quite a while.
  17. Because I apparently suffer from extreme ADHD when it comes to miniature painting... squirrel!! Ahem, the following are in various stages of WIP. Everything on the blob and rat has been applied by airbrush and mostly inks and washes to this point. The Abominataur has had some brushwork done since and is nearing completion. Tried something I picked up from a French Youtuber Hutif who mixes some satin varnish in with her inks when she sprays them. Will be doing a comparison on some different models at some point to see if it's actually doing anything but it seems to be helping the ink settle into the recesses better. Applying inks/washes through the airbrush has also been neat as you spray at such a low pressure that you can get really precise. If nothing else, it was great practice. These are not meant to be works of art, just messing around and hoping to get them on the table with 3 or so hours of work each. So far, the minotaur is the farthest along has had about 2 hours total. Thanks for looking.
  18. Now that our new house is done and we are unpacking, living in it for 11 days as of the time of this posting. I wanted to go ahead and start up a WIP thread showing my hobby/game room and the WIP as the last few days I've been setting it up so that I can paint. My OCD won't allow me to actually paint (even though I have an area for it now) until I have the rest of the room cleaned up and organized! Let's start up with the original plans - And here it is after it was done, a blank slate!
  19. So this holiday break I decided to try starting, and maybe even finishing Ma'al (Reaper 77580), aka Tiamat. I go back to work next Wednesday, so this is a bit ambitious, but at least I am going to use the biggest brushes I can get my hands on! I got rid of mold lines and glued it together on the Saturday before Christmas. This morning I got up the courage and got out the green stuff. I had started applying base coat when hubby said I should document the progress. So here are some progress pictures:
  20. Starting a new figure, from AoW this time. Currently worked on the skin parts...and I could not skip the eye on this one haha Just for reference and info , I put the color used for this part ...( at least that will be a reminder for me what I used haha ). Skin : Mix of Vallejo model color olive green and lime green and Reaper Heather Blue. Nails and Teeth, Gum : Vallejo model color purple, Reaper Desert Sand and Bleached Linen Also a pass of Army Painter Dark Tone Wash to renforce a bit shadow.
  21. Hey so this is my first post, I’ve only been painting since Christmas and I don’t have many friends who do it. So this seems like the best place to get some advice. I’ve been working on this fire demon for a while now and I finally finished the main body, but just wanted some advice for the base and what I could go for. I had a lot of difficulty with the runes on the sword as I really don’t have the skill yet to do it. If you see anything else that’s rough with it let me know please :) the photos are just a few progress pictures. Thank you!
  22. Hi ! Started one of the monk fihure from wizkids ( couple in stock so I need to get them done ^^ ), so it may be a good place to make my first wip thread ... tried a zenhital priming, using tamiya spray primer and Mr hooby ( that the more easy and cheaper to get in japan ). from there I just apply what I am considering as my base dark tone..well hehe no garanty here I am exploring stuff too :) where I am at for now... i did not too much care about detials for now..let see how this goes xd
  23. As a test of the clear paints, I am attempting to work on some of the green and purple translucent figures. Here is the Spirit #77098. I used the Clear Green for the main part of the body. The head and hands were done with Skeleton Bone & Sepia Wash. I'm not sure if I can call this done or if further detailing needs to be done with the "body". Suggestions?
  24. So I'm going to be starting a dwarven reclamation campaign in the fall, and I had 2 copies of the Dwarf butcher. I though it would be perfect to do one as a living butcher (who I can also use as an NPC townie) and his barbarian ancestor spirit that I can put on the table when he's a ragin'. So far the living butcher is mostly done (need to do his base and some touchups - I don't know how all of you are doing the eyes, because I can't see them even with a visor), and the ghostly ancestor is mostly done minus the ghostly glow I'll be drybrushing later. I do have a few process pics to post.
  25. OK so I'm still trying to figure this new forum out some. So I thought I show my current project.
