    Bones 4 direwolf

Everyone was so nice when I posted my hellhounds so I feel confident enough to post this guy.

    “Run!” Dark Sword Diorama

This was one of my diorama entries for ReaperCon featuring miniatures from Dark Sword Miniatures. I had diorama ideas centered around the female figure occupying my mind for a while before I settled on this one. I tried a few other figures with her but nothing fit until I got the male figure and then added the wolf. I am very happy with how it came together and was very pleased that it received a Gold medal in the Diorama Category. I also was honored to receive second place diorama from Dark Sword.
  3. https://siberiantimes.com/science/casestudy/news/still-snarling-after-40000-years-a-giant-pleistocene-wolf-discovered-in-yakutia/ The intact head of a gigantic wolf has been discovered in Siberian permafrost. The head is 40cm long, as large as a modern donkey’s head (fully half the body length of a modern wolf!)
  4. Enjoyed painting these but can't say I applied any great magic or too much time to them. They were all really quick to complete, working up from coloured primer with washes then bone or cream or pink for details.

    MInis for Twitter Exchange Thinger

So, I've been a participant in an exchange type thing on Twitter for quite a while now. It is known as "The Box of Many Things" and is a low cost to no cost geeky, nerdy Secret Santa type exchange that takes place every other month. this is for my April Thinger. We use the term "Thinger" to describe those who are in the exchange, specifically the person you are sending to or are receiving from, which are rarely the same person. They even have international group for those outside of the states, too. Art is a common thing to send as it is very low cost to make and usually low cost to mail too! So behold my badly repainted D&D Minis! So, my Thinger plays two PCs, a Druid and and a Dryad Warlock and I was going to try to paint a mini for one of those but ran into a roadblock. I couldn't find a mini for either of them! Also, they are an excellent artist and provided ARTWORK of their PCs for reference! I wouldn't be able to do justice for them at all! So I dug through the 4 pages of info they gave to find something I could paint successfully and not take far too long to do so! And I found that The Druid likes to become a Dire Wolf a lot and the Dryad has a Winged Cat for a Familiar so i got to work! Here they are! Hope you enjoyed them! GF

02830: Wolf Pack (the middle one)

Here is a figure I painted for the game Rangers of Shadow Deep. Buckyball
  7. Meet Raven! And her hound Foxy! Member of the Red Cloaks band of mercenaries traveling the Land. Ranged support while providing knowledge of how to survive outside of civilization. Not that stops Ernie's complaining... 60181: Adowyn & Leryn (Iconic Hunter & Wolf) painted in Autumn palette with NMM, Texture, and Freehand. This was another miniature full of fiddly bits to paint. After watching Bobby Jackson sculpt on the Reaper LIVE show, I think this was a digital sculpt! Looking forward to seeing this miniature in the BONES version.

    Darksword Wolf

I sculpted this wolf for Darksword last spring. I got a couple copies of it last week. Friday night, I decided to paint a version of it for a friend's 11 year-old girl who is crazy about wolves. When asked how she wanted it painted, she said tan with black stripes and spots. That took me a bit to get my head around, but I took the challenge and here is what I painted. It took me about 3 hours.

    Werewolf (There wolf!) - 77464

Has anyone seen a little girl wearing a red hood and carrying a picnic basket? Asking for a friend! Here is my version of the Bones werewolf. He is a very beefy guy and was fun to paint. Since I was painting all of my wolfish figures, I tried to give them a mix of colors. This guy got the same fur treatment that I did on my warg. I need a few more "normal" wolves for my pack and will probably do at least one white. For now, I have finished all of the ones that I own. I had a good time painting them but am ready to paint something that doesn't have fur!

    Death Dog - 77407

I have gone through my "hoard of unpainted things" and painted all of my wolf and wolf-like critters. This one is the Death Dog from Bones 3. I am really glad I did the Kickstarter because I ended up with so many minis I have enjoyed painting that I probably would not have purchased otherwise. This is one of them. Not that there is anything wrong with him, I think I would have gone for a regular wolf or werewolf before going for a two-headed wolf. However, he is going to have fun chomping adventurers! So in addition to the warg and winter wolf that I already painted, I did this one, a werewolf, and the dread wolves that came with the cemetery set. All of them are the Bones versions.

    Winter Wolf - 77437

This is the winter wolf from Bones 3. I want my pack to have a variety of fur colors. When googling wolves, I found a photo of one that was black with light grey/white tipped fur so that is the look I chose for this one. To me, it looks like he has been backed into a corner and is getting ready to spring!

    Warg - 77202

Here is a warg for my D&D campaign. He can be a direwolf, stand in for a pack leader wolf, etc. I love this mini! Lots of detail and fun to paint!

    Skatha and Snow

Presenting Skatha (the girl) and Snow (the wolf) two members of the Hunters Guild faction in the game Guild Ball, you can find their WIP thread here. Never ended up completely happy with Skathas hair, but I think the rest of her went okay, and Snow painted up better than I thought she would, so overall I'd call this a success. As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.
  16. Every DM needs wolves. These were bare metal used on the gaming table for far too long! I've been wanting to paint these for a long time, but was intimidated by the fur. I finally decided to take the plunge. I did some research on the web for images for inspiration, as well as the forums. Here's what I came up with. C&C Welcome. First, the individuals. Here was the inspiration photo from google images for a varied color gray wolf. This is what I came up with for him. Coincidentally, it ended up very similar to Anne's picture on the Reaper Web Store. Next, I wanted a run-of-the-mill gray wolf. Here is an inspiration photo. And the model. And, as these are all for our Reign of Winter Adventure Path, I wanted a white wolf! Here was the inspiration. I was surprised to find so much cream and not so much white, so I tried to replicate it on the model. I also tried blue eyes, but they didn't pop quite well enough. And I threw on some snow and cork "rocks." I wasn't entirely happy with it overall, but it is acceptable. Finally, here are some group shots. Overall, I had fun painting these, and knocked all three out in about a week. That's SUPER fast for me.
  17. I purchased the Shadow Hound in Kentucky and was painting bits of it while in the hotel. The initial plan for the mini was to paint half of it and leave the other half translucent. Now that I have a base coat and some colors on it, I'm not too sure. Perhaps if it was clear translucent instead of purple it could work? Please let me know your thoughts.
  18. Yup another project, as if I didn't have enough on my hands. This will take a while, but I will start again. A few decades ago ( before I roamed this Forum) I created a Barbarian Army with Animal allies. I sold it and all I have left are these tiny pics that show only part of it. Also, this was decades ago so I didn't paint as well as I do today ( or at least I think so) Here are the old pics as appetizers, I will soon start the new army. Enjoy!

77437 Winter Wolf, by Sandra Garrity

Also to go along with our Reign of Winter campaign. This is the BONES Winter Wolf. I had the most fun with the eyes. Some of the pics came out a little dark, despite 3 lights. It must be a camera thing... C&C Welcome.

    Wolf Tribe - Rageclaw Warrior

I'm working on painting a tribe of wolf people and this is the second guy I've completed (first one here). This is also the first custom base that I've made. Funny side note: Early on in painting this guy I posted on the works in progress board asking for opinions on what is hanging on his foot. The conclusion that we came to was that it was some kind of buckle which apparently the sculptor of this piece (Werner Klocke) is obsessed with. As I kept painting I definitely started noticing the abundance of buckles across the various leather straps. It just made me laugh every time I discovered a new one. Anyway comments, suggestions, and criticisms welcome! Thanks!
  21. I'm working on a pair of minis for a friend's D&D ranger. I have the wolf pretty much done -- and I'm generally happy with him. But...the face! I don't feel like he has a face. The eyes don't stand out at all (I tried some brighter orange-yellow shades and ended up with something that looked like The Joker's lapdog). The whole face seems to just moosh into the rest of the body and disappear. I know this is a contrast thing -- I just have no idea how to attack it. I tried brightening highlights, I tried glazing in shadows. All I end up with is a darker or lighter version of the same problem. Anybody have any suggestions? Thanks, Group Mind!

    02830: Wolf Pack (3)

These are Reaper's 02830: Wolf Pack, sculpted by Geoff Valley. They are mounted on one-inch fender washers. I painted them for versatility, which is why there is a variety of color and base types. Detailed WIP thread here.
  23. These gorgeous wolves (Thunderbolt Mountain 8560) are the nicest giant wolf sculpts I have ever seen. They are by the legendary Tom Meier. IMPORTANT: TOM MEIER IS CLOSING HIS THUNDERBOLT MOUNTAIN STORE DEC. 25 OF THIS YEAR, SO IF YOU ARE INTERESTED, GO THERE NOW! They are pretty big. I mounted them on 1.5" fender washers for extra stability. Tom Meier sells optional goblin riders for them. WIP thread with extensive color notes, painting details, and comparison to other wolf figures here.
  24. I had these in an RAFM blister and as I recall their bases said RAFM (I glued them to 1.5-inch fender washers for stability). I haven't been able to identify them. They look like the sorts of giant wolves that are ridden by goblins. I am not sure where they came from. Well, apart from RAFM, obviously. They are pretty big. Here's a size comparison with the RAFM one on the far right: Left to right these are: a wolf from Reaper 02830; a wolf from Reaper 77176; Reaper 03682 Willow Greenivy; a giant wolf from Thunderbolt Mountain 8560; and an RAFM mystery wolf. I painted them as several different types of wolf, one with a snow base and two with grassy bases, for multiple uses. Their bases are 1.5". Extensive WIP with lots of color mixing and technique notes here.
  25. This is a fairly small Bones wolf from the Reaper set 77176: Familiars. I'm not sure who sculpted the wolf, but it is tiny. Here is an unpainted size comparison. The Bones wolf is second from the left, between a pewter Reaper wolf from the set 02830: Wolf Pack (3) and 03682: Willow Greenivy. A couple of wargs, one from Thunderbolt Mountain and one from RAFM, complete the size comparisons. Anyhow, here is the little critter. It is so small it hasn't got separate legs; I painted black between them. WIP thread here, with full details on all color mixes and techniques.
