My first Wyvern. :)

Hello again. Here's another older paintjob of mine. This is the wyvern from the Bones 4 Core set. My players encountered a flock of Wyverns while traversing a desert valley. They were mounted on Giant Lizards and were chased by the wyverns. What ensued was an Indiana Jones-esque chase complete with daring leaps from mount to mount. All-in-all a good time. As such, I decided to paint this guy up to fit into an arid desert landscape. Had a lot of fun blending the sculpted base into the rest of the base. Also was really proud of the coloration I settled on for the Wyvern. I painted each scale individually, which was time consuming but worth it. I also tried some different glazing and layering techniques to add veining into the wings. Needless to say, I'm pretty proud of this one. Wish I had snagged up Blacksting during the Kickstarter as well though. Will have to get my hands on that one eventually.

One of the kids pulled this wonderful sculpt out of my miniature bin and said "You have to paint THIS!" So I did. I painted it concurrently with Sophie, but the children did not understand why I called them "Wyvern and Shirley". Womp womp womp. Anywayyyyy... This mini was awesome to paint, except that I wanted the wyvern to be reasonably camouflaged in its native ruins environment, but I kept accidentally making the camo too effective, and the wyvern kind of vanished into the ruins. Great for fighting adventurers, but not so much from an aesthetic perspective. I ended up with this color scheme, which was hopefully close enough to echo the stone, but not so close as to actually hide in it :-)

Hi everyone, Here is my vignette featuring the Blacksting Wyvern hunting down a 500MD helicopter. This is a little project I had fun with recently. i painted the Blacksting Wyvern from Bones a bit more than a year back and was quite happy with it collecting dust on my shelf (original post: https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/86236-blacksting-wyvern-speed-paint). Then, I stumbled across a 1/48 helicopter model I had almost forgotten about. 1/48th scale does fit nicely with 28mm heroic scale. The creatives juice started flowing and I decided to make a surprise encounter between the modern warfare machine and the legendary beast. I experimented as well with epoxy resin + food coloring for water, tree bark (for rocks), a couple of random 3D-printed broken statues/rubbles and toilet paper plaster for the terrain. I didn't have a clear acrylic rod for the flight stand, but wooden dowel painted black blends OK. I also forgot how much fun it is to build and paint plastic models. It is both similar and very different from miniatures painting. I'm quite happy with the result even though I could have been neater on a few places and it is a bit big for my light box. Hello all! I'm working on the blacksting wyvern from bones 4, as you can see from the title. Getting ready to start base coating some color in and noticed an area I'm not sure if it is supposed to be anatomically correct or not filled In from when made. No it does not sit on anything either that they would plug into. Any thoughts would be appreciated! Happy painting and stay safe! -Z

#81: The Wyvern I always thought this one has a strange pose. I think mostly this is because of the tilt of the neck and head. 60mm base. A massive crocodile and a smallish (?) wyvern. #81 Wyvern Bones 4 Core set, 2019 Reaper Miniatures unknown sculptor (look like Julie Guthrie?) Decided to work on alternate skin tones for a pair of ogres; the blue one is designed to be some kind of ice ogre variant though he did come out a bit bluer than I had originally planned. The wyvern, I was really excited to discover, has a fallen statue as part of it's base! I used it in my dnd game and it successfully predated one of my PCs who had wandered off alone. The Black Pudding was also used in my game and did some damage to the players' ship hull. The Blacktooth Terror made his way into my game pursuing the characters through the jungle. I opted to use a clear plastic support b/c I assumed over time that the weight of his head and chest would result in it bending over. Sorry for the crap pics of him, but my light box isn't big enough for figs of his scale. I did a reverse light to dark color on his tongue that came off better than expected.

If you paint one mini, it is best to paint another one at the same time since you can apply techniques you've just picked up and stuff like that.... Also it gives you some other details to stare at when painting... I've painted my Blacksting Wyvern at the same time as my Roc.

Painted her up quite simply, going for purple and pink rather than lizard green. Tried to add some texture and detail to the base, as the model comes on a small detailed statue/rock base. The skulls are resin orc and dwarf skulls, from Ristuuls/Bad Squiddo Games.

This is my take on the Bones 4 Blacksting Wyvern. Definitely not to the level of the beautiful one from Sirithiliel. But I’m pretty pleased with it. I used a lot of shortcuts to get the most bang in the least amount of time : “blending” with airbrush, overuse of washes, and “dirty” feel to hide the crimes. This sculpt was a pleasure to work on and the large wingspan really makes it stand out (and hard to take pics of).

My first experience with epoxy resin! I learned that building something from sand and glue that looks watertight... is not actually the same as being watertight. :-)

Hi there, I just found this forum and recently started to paint reaper miniatures. This is two of the first things I have painted in years! (edit to include full mini names)

After taking the time to look more closely at the Wyvern I had painted, I was not quite happy with how it looked, so I have redone the wings, claws and belly scales, as well as using a wash to pick out the pupils of the eyes. Take a look at the pictures below, comments and advice are always welcome! (edit: I forgot to add the pictures to show off the head and eyes!!)

This is the Blacksting Wyvern figure. I'm of two minds about this one. First off, most of the effort went into the basing...which was built up from basla, cork and lots of slate. I wanted a broken mountaintop look, and I think it turned out OK. On the other hand, for the actual figure, I liked everything about the sculpt except the wings. Because of the way they were sculpted, the wings looked very "meaty," not "membranous." In the end I just went with it and painted him like he had a couple of juicy steaks hanging off of his shoulders. LOL. Kevin in Edmonton http://www.mageknightkevin.blogspot.ca

With my shelf of shame needing some new residential zoning, I have decided to tackle a few unfinished projects and actually complete them. 2013 was the year of the dragons...nope, didn't finish. 2014 was the year of the giants...nope, didn't finish. Oh gloom, despair, and agony on me! With that out of my system, first off the shelf is Blacksting. I started working on him maybe five years ago? Here is his current state: I believe he was the first figure I ever gap filled with green stuff. He has taken at least one dive off the shelf of shame, undoubtedly trying to fly onto my work table. I don't think I'll change the colors too much, except to do something about that gray on the wings. I don't remember what I was thinking there. I think the blues are the martial blue triad, though the neck scales look like midnight blue. I'll have to try to match the yellow.

So here's the figure that I was doubting on how long I should leave it dry before putting on the sealant. Well got him finished today, and got photos taken, hope you like. I'm kind of finding that dragons aren't that bad to paint after you get a good solid first coat on them because they don't have metal or accessories, it's mostly just a big monster and a few colors. I do keep getting stuck in that spot that I don't give them an eyeball as I end up, like this one, as well as my oriental dragon and my gold dragon, a single color of eye. There's plenty of space on these to give them a slit for an eyeball or something lizard-like, don't know why I haven't done it recently. A black dragon that I painted quite a long time ago has the eyeball painted. I think this is a figure sculpted by Sandra Garrity, just judging by the style, but I could be wrong. I don't really know off hand how old the figure is, forgot to look on his base before I superglued him to the plastic one.

Wyvern painted up in a tropical scheme! Thanks Talespinner, I had a blast painting the lil' guy! Such an awesome sculpt! The base is green stuff and realistic water built up on a Secret Weapon base from my Bag O' Crap, to make a jungle pool
